Jack put the sticky plugs on his face quickly. These plugs were on both sides of his forehead. Apparently, this allowed them access into his brain, which allowed the information to be plopped down all at once while being read to him. It would remain in his memory forever and he would never forget it because of the weird way it was placed in his memory. The plugs were connected to the Historical Archives of The United Forces of Canadia. Which was what this country was currently called. Letting go of everything, Jack laid down and sunk into his bed. Closing his eyes and with a flash of bright light. He dove into the History lesson.

Kiache slept, though it was haunting with nightmares.

Jack followed along willingly, one thing he was interested in was the making of their country. Which went like this. Once upon a time, this country was called he United States of America. The U.S for short. Canada and Mexico were countries of their own. By this point in time, Mexico and the U.S were not on good terms and rumors of a war were on an all time high. Considering the fact that the U.S was so much more advanced and powerful, there was no way Mexico could win the rumored war. That was before the flooding came of course. No one understands how or why it happened, but one thing is for sure, it wreaked havoc on all countries. The floods covered most of the U.S, along with Mexico. Canada didn't get hit badly and took the opportunity to take over the land. All of it. Mexico and America turned into the property of Canada and along with everyone in it. The Great Floods as they are called, still linger. The Great Floods also led to the humans dicovering the once mythical creatures called mermaids of 'mers.' (Check out, The History of the Mystical Mers for more information.) Even today the remnants of the floods still linger and many natural ecosystems have been taken over my water. The remaining places that no longer are drenched are areas where 'The Big Cities' are located. These advanced cities house all the humans in the area. These large cities are surrounded by high walls and are protected from any floods or general harm by force fields. Just beyond the walls are 'The Outskirts' which is where most crime appears, along with housing for the poorer people. This is also protected by the force field but not the wall. Outside the force fields are forests and marshes, these are called the 'Unknown' for we have stopped trying to explore these areas. Most travel now is done by air or water. Otherwise, there is no moving between cities. That's the conclusion for this audio course. Thank you for listening.
And with that, it was done.

As she slept, the nightmare that was her capture replayed in her mind. She was a small Mer, only seeing ten seasons. That day, her Mama and Papa were in a meeting, and she was with her friend, Fy. Fy had a deep red tail, with white and orange patches. Their skin was tinted white, with raven black hair that was cropped around their head. Their eyes were black as well. Before, Kiache was a their/they as well, as all Mer were fluid. Humans did not know this, and call Kiache a her.

Well that had been less awful than all the Algebra stuff Jack normally had to do.

Kiache and Fy, who was a high ranking noble, were set to be married when older. They knew it, and were fine with it, as they were best of friends. They were dating, and had kissed and such before. But today, they were simple friends. As they swam deep down, Kiache heard a bark. "Seal," she told Fy, who nodded and swam to the sound.

Jack took off the plugs with a sigh as a horrible headache appeared. This happened whenever the lessons were over. Suddenly, his bracelet spoke. "Vitals: Heartbeat: Slightly below average. Internal Health: Ok. External: Fine. Hydration: Dehydrated. Seek water immediately." Jack sighed, this sometimes happened too. That explained why he was dizzy.

They both swam to the sound. It was not a seal. It was hairy, with four tails, and sharp teeth like them. And beyond them were humans. Humans with nets and hooks. Humans on a big floaty thing. The humans spotted them immediately, and Fy and Kiache swam, swam, swam.

Jack stood up dizzly and told his bracelet to summon cold water. It did as it was told and the water appeared in his open hand. He gulped it down and plopped on the floor.

Kiache was the one who saw the net. She pushed Fy away, startling the poor Mer. She net tangled her tail, and Fy screamed, "No Fy, no! They will take you too! Swim! Swim!" With tears, Fy swam. And the horror began.
