Jack listened silently, if you could call mind speak listening. On the surface, when he was human, you had to be strong too. Otherwise you got preyed on by the stronger, which was how it seemed to be like here. So he understood where she was coming from. But keeping it all pent up like she was doing wasn't a good idea either.

Kiache was sad, and heavy with sorrow and hurt. There was no doubt about it. But the Mer were not creatures that lived in the past. They lived in the Now, and right now was that soon she would be with her family, or at least what is left of it.
Ts to when Kiaches family comes
Time was different in the Mer kingdom. Most of the ocean settlements were deep under, where sunlight couldn't penetrate. So, they based the time off of all the different tides. In human time it was perhaps three hours of waiting, but after a lifetime, it didn't matter. Kiache had gone out and caught food for the three of them, and used her fire to cook he fish for the other two after Quinn looked at it weird. Kiache ate it raw, her sharp teeth tearing into the meat.
At the end of the three hours, conch shells were blown, echoing throughout the ocean area. Kiache darted up, "They are here." Yet, she made to move to go to them. This was also the way of the Mer. Her father would need to properly thank the folk of the village before they could meet. An orange and black blur ran into Kiache, whooping and yelling. At first Kiache was too shocked to do anything, but when she recognized the ruddy face and short shock of black hair, along with the tail of orange, black, and white, Kiache wrapped her tail around theirs. "Fy!" "Kiache!" The two twirled in a circle, holding hands all the while. Both had huge smiles on their faces. Fy, like all Mer, was genderless. Kiache only went by She because of her time with humans. Mer had a gender they leaned more towards physically, and Fy definitely leaned towards what humans called female. They were curvy in all the right places, and beautiful. At least, Kiache thought them to be beautiful.
Fy was not a Royal Mer, and therefore did not have to wait to see Kiache.

Jack watched quietly from his place on the floor and looked away. He felt like he was intruding on something he wasn't a part of. It felt wrong, he was just not supposed to be here.

Kiache brought Fy into the conversation, "Jack, Quinn: this is Fy. Fy, Jack And Quinn." Kiache pointed at each person, since with the 'no genders' of the ocean, anyone could be names anything. Fy brushed their hand along Kiache's fins on the side of her tail. They had sharp fingernails, and sharp teeth like Kiache. "They dulled you down, huh, Ki?" Fy had asked earlier about her nails, to which Kiache had said yes. Kiache was what many Mer would call defenseless in the water. Without claws, it was harder to grip onto prey. Luckily, Kiache had been an excellent hunter in her time, and had been able to adapt around it.

Jack perked up at his name but didn't smile, much like normal. He still wasn't used to smiling, in fact, just the little amount he did around Kiache made his muscles twitch with fatigue. Unlike both real Mers, Jack just looked like a human with a tail, then of course there was his colorless eyes. He also still wore the tattered shirt from earlier. All of this added to his foreign appearance compared to Kiache who looked so comfortable here. It was like going to a different country, you stuck out like a sore thumb.

Quinn seemed oddly at ease in the water. Perhaps it was her powers that made her feel that way. The wildness of the wind and storms did not bother her, and her callings have made the ocean rise up in a fearsome wall. Being in the water felt much like standing in a rainstorm, whether it be calm or violent.

Jack was the opposite, perhaps it was just his powers forcing their way into his life but he felt so wrong here. Sure, he had dreamed of swimming in the ocean before and all that jazz, but he never believed he'd be able to do it. Let alone to efficiently with people he actually trusted. His powers had always prevented that from happening, now, they didn't seem to be getting in the way.

One thing that was a large part of Mer culture was touching. The Mer that were close always had contact with one another. For example, even as Kiache and Fy were still, Fy was running their hand along her hip, and Kiache's fins brushed against theirs. Fins were a delicate part of the Mer. Strangers couldn't just touch one another's fins - it was wrong. It may have been years, but the two were as close as ever. That's what happened with friends. Best friends. The close Mate-Bond they once had faded with time, and a Kiache could tell Fy had given their heart to another. Kiache had done the same, and Fy knew it too. Contact wasn't only for Mates.

Jack wasn't sure what to say. Everything was just so different here.. He didn't know what was acceptable and what wasn't. The way Kiache touched Fy like it was a common thing here.. was it something he'd eventually do? He didn't normally touch people, Jack had always been unnaturally cold or to afraid to touch anyone. Not because he was afraid of them per say, he was afraid of becoming close enough to someone to the point where he could actually touch them. Maybe now he wouldn't have to do that though. Jack didn't know, the Mer had a complex social system that he'd have to ask Kiache about later if she wasn't busy.

Quinn helped Jack float over to Kiache and Fy, though it was difficult to do. She wasn't used to the whole... being a Mer and have 8 legs thing. It was new, confusing, and totally awesome. Quinn felt so ferocious and brave - like she could take on anything.
