Jack stayed silent and tried not to look too out of place in the sea. It was a hopeless case. He didn't radiate the warmth Kiache and most of the other Mers seemed to have. If anything he was just there, not warm or freezing cold like he once had been. If anything, he just felt normal. The ocean's cold didn't affect him but he wasn't exactly warm either. It was such a weird in between place that he couldn't exactly understand it.

The officials sent out a messenger to the main city where the king resided. Kiache was told her mother had been captured by humans, along with her little brother. Her father and older brother were still safe, though. She was also told her father re-married, and she had a new half sibling. By then, though, Kiache was crying and crunched on the floor. She hardly heard the last news, all she could think was how could it have happened. Mama? Brother? Gone. == THIS IS INCORRECT WRONG NO GENDERS PAST ME DID A BAD == edited*

Oh god I don't know what Jack should do...oh my glob I can't. I don't want him to do the wrong thing and make it worse and ughhhhhhh.)))
Jack couldn't relate to losing someone close to him. No one had ever truly cared about him and he hadn't cared about anyone till Kiache. His sibling had hated him and his parents had never cared. Jack slowly drifted to the floor next to Kiache. He didn't know how he was gonna get back up but that didn't matter right now. What mattered was Kiache. Remembering the day they first spoke, he gently hummed to her. Resting his hand on her shoulder but if she wanted him to stop she could easily shrug him off. Although his humming was a little muffled, it still had the same meaning.

Kiache sat up and buried her face on Jack's shoulder, loosely wrapping her arms around his neck. She just wanted to be held - to feel safe. She noticed Quinn shoo out the officials, and stand guard in front of the two of them, keeping them at her back to give privacy. Kiache silently thanked her.

Jack didn't flinch at all to the physical contact. In fact, he wrapped his own arms around Kiache. Continuing his humming gently, his blue hair drifting with the water. There had once been a time where hugging Kiache would've been scary for him, it wasn't anymore. He knew she'd never hurt him. And she was hurting now. So he was helping in the only way he could.

After a while, Kiache regained control of herself. She slowly pulled back, and gave a watery laugh, "I've become like a human. Hugging with my arms." Despite her laughter, she was still hurting and aching. It was her sense of always needing to be happy that made her even try.

This laugh concerned Jack, his white eyes staring with concern into hers. "I mean, I don't suppose that's necessarily a bad thing. I don't exactly know how to move this thing anyways. Just uh," he paused for a moment, trying to figure out what to say. "I'm sorry Kiache, and I'll always be here if you need me to be." He tried for a smile but he just couldn't do it.

Kiache smiled even though her heart wasn't in it. "Thank you, Jack." She felt bad about breaking down. She needed to be strong, "I suppose we can wait here for a while. It will take a while for the messager to reach my home, and once they do arrive, things will move quickly."

"That is fine Kiache, take your time. No one else is gonna bother us. Especially since Quinn is rather terrifying when she wants to be." He smiled a little at her but it quickly disappeared, not only because he wasn't used to it but also because he just really couldn't smile in this situation like Kiache could she acted so strong. "You don't have to act okay Kiache. I'm not saying you can't handle it, because you've proven to me time and time again that you are more than capable than taking care of yourself. But I'm always, always here. I promise that."

Kiache shook her head, and allowed Quinn back into the conversation. "You don't understand. I have to be strong. In the ocean, only the strong survive. Everything here wants to kill us. It isn't like old fairytales. The ocean animals are not our friends, and not all Mer are united."
