Silent water

two should be enough for Raven Shadow, who's already been treated partway. Though maybe I should pick a few extras for good measure, to spare myself the extra trip after somebody else gets hurt.

Silent water gently lowered his head and nipped five flowers from the patch and left the rest to continue growing. But just as he was debating to pick more and stock them in the den Burning Flame came up, wondering who the chamomile was for and Crooked Teak's location.

"Crooked teak... I believe he's gone back to going hunting, though I'm not sure, I left before I could see. And yes, these are for Raven shadow, but not all of them... I think it'd be helpful if I stored a couple at the den, just in case somebody else gets hurt too and there isn't enough time to fetch more,"

Burning Flame
Burning Flame nodded to Silent Water as he explained. "That sounds good. Go on back to the camp. I can take your place in the hunting party. The Panshea's den is going to need to get cleaned out first before you put the herbs in though. Ask Stargazer about that." Burning Flame said to Silent Water before nodding to Night Hawk, "Come on, let's catch up with Crooked Teak."

Burning Flame nodded back at Silent Water before trotting into the forest. Night Hawk stayed a couple pawsteps behind her. Catching onto Crooked Teak's scent, she started to follow it before seeing Night Hawk take the lead. Oh right, he had just come from there. She thought to herself chuckling before following Night Hawk.

They came to a clearing where she saw Crooked Teak and Hawk's Nest waiting. She walked over before saying to Crooked Teak, "Night Hawk came back to camp for me. I will be taking Silent Water's place in the hunting party while he helps Raven Shadow and puts the rest of the herbs away." She looked over at Hawk's Nest, noting that he had a slight painful face on before turning back to Crooked Teak. "Where to first?" Burning Flame asked, cocking her head at the beta.

Crooked Teak

Crooked Teak simply nodded as Hawk's Nest told him his takeaways. He was learning quickly. Ignoring the blatant pain on Hawks' Nest's face, Crooked Teak turned to keep an eye out for the other wolves. "Very good, Hawk's Nest," he said. He seemed to have calmed down, but did have a trace of a glower left on his face. "Always remember that our packmates' lives come before everything else." He tapped his paw on the ground, wondering whether Night Hawk hadn't just gone off by himself. Well, he'd give them a few more minutes.

A few moments later, he saw Burning Flame and Night Hawk emerge from behind a tree. Ah, finally, somebody who knew what they were doing. He was surprised that Night Hawk had even thought to go get Burning Flame, but it wasn't like Night Hawk was an idiot. In fact, he was rather intelligent, which made his complete refusal to cooperate even more frustrating. "Thank you, Burning Flame," Crooked Teak said, nodding to her. He glanced sideways at Night Hawk.

"We'll move north. We likely scared off everything to the south of us when we ran off to save Raven Shadow. Keep your eyes out for deer especially. As we saw earlier, it's rutting season. The deer are more likely to be out in the open. Once we do find prey, assuming it's large, we split up. Hawk's Nest and Burning Flame on the left, Night Hawk and me on the right. You know the rest. If the prey is small, you may proceed as usual."

Great. Just great. Night Hawk thought to himself, keeping his neutral face on. Burning Flame simply nodded before going over next to Hawk's Nest. Night Hawk stretched before waiting for Crooked Teak and the others to start moving before following. He stayed a few pawsteps behind them, as usual as he didn't like the size of the group they were in.

He kept his head up as he walked, taking in the scents and hearing as he delved into his mind. Sure, he was fine hunting alone or with a partner but he didn't get the big groups. Yes, it took more to take down a moose or a large deer, but it was easier for two to take down a smaller deer and a couple pheasants and the go out again then just bringing one thing back. Night Hawk's rule while hunting was to always bring something back, no matter how little prey there was. He flicked his ears before smelling the air, scenting a deer. Several deer actually. Burning Flame spoke up first however, "Deer in the meadow close by. We should divide now."

Night Hawk flattened his ears before rolling his eyes. Yep, Flame always seemed to speak her mind. Her nose was good though, great for tracking. He was suddenly glad that he brought her along. Gave him a safe zone around the beta. Until now of course as they had to split up. He waited on the beta before following him, a few pawsteps behind as usual.

Running Dawn
Running Dawn was confused, and got caught up in a small crowd of wolves. He pushed past, and into the omegas den. He fell onto his side, with a deep yawn. His eyes closed gently, and he fell into a deep sleep. With one second, he was awake again as Waning Moon rushed inside.
"There's a fox on the camp borders! Get up Running Dawn!" She shouted. Running Dawn stood up frantically, and raced outside the den. He looked up and saw the red fox standing there, jaws pulled back into a snarl.
"You go behind, Waning Moon! I'll attack from the side!"
"Are you sure you know what you're doing?" Waning Moon asked.
"Just do it!" Running Dawn leaped onto the edge of the camp with a snarl, attacking the fox immediately on the side. The fox snapped back instantly.
Waning Moon
Waning Moon growled angrily at a fox that stood above the camp. She had been the first to realize its presence there, making her the first to attack. She raced into the omegas den and shouted at Running Dawn.
"There's a fox on the camp borders! Get up Running Dawn!" She shouted. She watched Running Dawn get up frantically, and raced outside to the fox.
"You go behind, Waning Moon! I'll attack from the side!"
"Are you sure you know what you're doing?" Waning Moon asked.
"Just do it!" Waning Moon leaped onto the edge, and went behind the fox, snapping at it, and trying to shove it into the camp with growls and snarls.

Stargazer
Stargazer dozed in the camp before shaking herself awake. Stretching, she padded over to one side of the clearing before scraping off some moss. She didn't know how long the hunting patrol was going to take, but she didn't want the blood in the Panshea's den to stain or start to get that rotting smell.

Getting a couple clumps, she walked over to the small den where she started to clean up the blood. Once that was done, she took the blood soaking moss down to the pond where she dropped them in. Dipping her muzzle and paws in, she washed them off before hearing the yips and barks back at camp.

Sprinting back towards the camp, she came in to find Running Dawn and Waning Moon battling the fox. Now usually she would leave it up to those two except Waning Moon was trying to force it into camp when they needed it out of camp, away from the pups. Foxes were usually not as big as a wolf, maybe closer to the size of a raccoon. This one was almost as big as a coyote.

Jumping forward, she barked orders, "Waning Moon! Force it out of camp not inside! Pups and mothers, get into the dens! Running Dawn, stop fighting it and start driving it back like you've been taught!" She placed herself in front of the fox, shielding pups that were behind her from it. Growling, she put her head down and started driving the fox out of camp.

Crooked Teak

Crooked Teak brought up the rear this time, wanting to let Hawk's Nest get more practice and also keen on keeping a watch on Night Hawk in case he tried to disappear again. As a result, he was one of the last to catch the scent of deer. This time he didn't seem to mind being told what to do. It probably had something to do with the fact that it was Burning Flame who had said it, but it may also have the fact that it sounded more like a suggestion than an order. Whatever the reason, Crooked Teak gave no reaction except to beckon Night Hawk.

Stalking forward quietly, Crooked Teak saw three does. Two were looking out into the distance, but one had its eyes on a clump of bushes near them. They'd have to be careful. Knowing that would want to show of their hunting skills, he didn't bother signaling for all of them to go for the same deer. Normally this was the best route, but prey was currently abundant and Crooked Teak knew he'd never heard the end of it if Night Hawk had to team up with all of the others.

Crooked Teak signaled for them to attack as soon as they were close enough. The does startled as the wolves came out of the bushes. The one not being attacked bounded into the forest. The other two scrambled to get away, but the wolves were already upon them. Leaving Night Hawk to go for the throat, Crooked Teak tore at the deer's leg and moved in front of it to stop it running away.

Soon the deer had been killed and the sound of snarls and hoofbeats subsided. And yet . . . that was strange. Crooked Teak thought he could still make out yelps and snarls. It took a split second for it to register in his brain. He looked at the carcasses. They had already lost prey because of Raven Shadow. What if this was another false alarm? But no, it sounded serious. He ordered his group, "Night Hawk, stay behind and bring the prey back." If he was so concerned that they bring back prey, he could do it. "You two, follow me. It sounds like trouble."

Burning Flame
Burning Flame split off going with Hawk's Nest to one side before seeing the three doe's. She waited for Crooked Teak's signal before lunging forward. Jumping onto one of the doe's back, she brought it down so Hawk's Nest would have an easy kill. Once the deer had been killed, she looked up to see Night Hawk and Crooked Teak standing over another one.

She smiled, they had gotten two out of the three deer. She looked over at Crooked Teak before hearing faint yelps and snarls. "Night Hawk, stay behind and bring the prey back. You two, follow me. It sounds like trouble." Crooked Teak ordered before starting back to camp. Burning Flame nodded before looking over at Night Hawk who simply flicked his ears.

Sprinting forward, she caught up to Crooked Teak and stayed by his side through the forest towards camp. Making it into camp, she looked around before spotting a fox at the side of camp. A few others were gathered behind it, growling. Stargazer and Running Dawn stood side by side, driving the fox that was in camp towards the forest. A few pups were huddled at the side of the camp.

Burning Flame trotted over to the pups before nudging them to move. Once they started to scramble towards their den, she picked up the runt before guiding the rest inside. "Now stay here while we deal with this okay?" Flame said firmly and the pups nodded. Backing out of the den, she stood in front of it so no foxes could get in.

Silent water
Silent was heading back to camp with chamomile stuffed in his jaw when he heard a shouted order, muffled by distance, but Silent could tell the call was from the stargazer.
He was near the camp, and he could see it, but maybe he was on the other side as he didn't notice any other wolves. Oh, well. He had a job to do, and he knew guiltily he would be useless should he have tried to join the fight. He entered the camp and approached the panshea's den. He tried not to look at the mess inside, but he knew it was inevitable, and let out a tiny gasp as he saw the rotting corpse of the former panshea, sprawled out on the floor with organs leaking from a bloody wound on the side of the Panshea. He gnashed his teeth together. It was a nasty sight. But somebody had to clean it up. However was he going to move the corpse though? He couldn't bear to lay a finger on the dead body, the tail askew but frozen in place like a dummy or doll. Silent winced, setting down the chamomile on a primitive strangely-shaped rock that had a large dent in the center then carefully nudging the body aside. He would deal with it later. First he would clean the blood- no, that would be unreasonable as the passed on Panshea would just spill even more. Maybe he'd gather some big leaves to cover the wound and then move the body.

Crooked Teak

Crooked Teak wasted no time in bounding towards the scene of the commotion. He saw immediately that Running Dawn, Waning Moon, Stargazer, and Burning Flame were locked in combat with a ginger-furred fox, whose teeth were flashing menacingly. A glance showed him that the pups were safely tucked away in the den. He immediately streaked over to Stargazer's side to accompany her in defending the pups, who always came first in these situations. It seemed that the day was meant to be hectic and violent. Already they had learned of their Panshea's death, Raven Shadow had been injured, and the camp had been attacked by a fox.

Crooked Teak was always the kind of wolf who liked to put himself directly into the fight and let others deal with things like looking after the pups. Maybe it was due to the fact that his heavy-set frame made him better at taking a bruising, but more likely it had to do with his desire to prove himself to his pack. Instead of going around and dragging it back by the rump, which would have been logical and might have confused the fox, Crooked Teak lunged straight in front of it.

The foc could focus on only so many wolves at once, but Crooked Teak had always been good at drawing attention due to his large size. The fox was snarling and snapping, and its gaze roved about wildly before it settled on Crooked Teak. It wasn't as large as Crooked Teak, but it had a spry agility with which it lunged forward and clamped its jaws down on his shoulder, dangerously close to his throat. Blood spurted out in crimson jets, and the fox, who was being clutched in the jaws of another wolf, was yanked back and tore even further at Crooked Teak's flesh.

Crooked Teak reeled backwards, his eyes slightly unfocused. It seemed for a moment that he would find his footing again, but he had just enough determination to try and stumble to the side, out of his packmates' way. He didn't quite make it before his legs gave out and he collapsed on his side.
