"Nice job" She stated as she began to pick at some dandelions that grew from the cracks in the sidewalk, being sure to pull up the roots as well. "Every little bit counts." She muttered to herself as she placed them in her bag. If they cooked them up right, then they could be tasty when paired with the meat. Elara walked a little further down the road but she could swear she felt a pair of eyes on her. She turned to look back at the two, hope seemed to be looking for anything else to collect or kill, and the male...something felt off about him. He seemed to be looking anywhere except for near her. She simply shrugged it off and chalked it up to her imagination as she went back to looking for some more dandelions. Spotting a few more growing nearby she went over and started uprooting them. As she collected them, she noticed a few more growing a little ways away. "Aye you two" she called over her shoulder. "There are some more dandelions growing over there. One of you wanna go grab 'em? If you do make sure to get the root with them, even if it's just a little more food it's still food none the less." She didn't bother looking up to see if either or both of them did, if they didn't then she would get them herself. As she collected she allowed her mind to drift to different ideas of how to get food. Maybe they could plant a few dandelions so that they would grow more near where they were staying. What ever the idea may be, she doubted anyone would listen, besides she was just...her. She didn't like how Amara felt the need to send the young male with them. Her and Hope were more then capable of doing it on their own, but she knew better then to argue. "Safety in numbers" she muttered to herself "safety in numbers...."

Hope nodded. "Thanks." she said, then saw the dandelions and began to pick them, putting them in a smaller bag at her hip. She heard some more scuttling and looked over and spotted a coyote. The rather skinny canine looked at her and growled, eyes crazed with hunger. "Hey, it's okay." she said in a soothing voice, knowing she couldn't take on an absolutely crazed coyote. Maybe, if she calmed it down, she could get them more to eat. The coyote stopped growling, watching her uncertainly, taking a few steps forward. It barely had time to react before she threw her knife, and it let out a yelp before slumping to the ground. She caught it quickly, taking out the knife and putting the coyote in the burlap sack. Her eyes stung. She knew it was to survive, and she was good at that, but it hurt to have to use how good she was with animals to hurt them. She shook her head. 'Get a grip, we have a lot more hunting to do.' she thought, then spotted a squirrel, quickly throwing her knife at it and adding its body to the bag. 'Doing well so far...' she thought, looking around for anything more. She glanced back at Killian, who was a bit of a ways back by now, and then caught up with Elara. "Weird, isn't it? How quickly times can change..." she said softly, almost a whisper.

Killian followed the females quietly, keeping alert, knowing why Amara wanted another with them, but not wanting to scare the girls. When he was far enough from Amara he looked at them. "She knows a few large groups are around here, and they are dangerous, especially for women alone" he said quietly. "They have a smaller chance of attacking with a male nearby. Only reason she wanted someone else to join." He didn't want them to think Amara didn't trust them, but for them to know why she wanted him there. "Besides, if we find a lone hog, I can carry it back" he said jokingly to hopefully make them feel a little better about him joining.

Hope looked over at Killian. "Makes sense...." she said to his comment about the other groups. She let out a snort at his comment about the hog. "Wondering if we'll get that lucky." she said. She switched the burlap sack to her right shoulder. She had strained her left shoulder too much in the past, and she was beginning to feel it, but with a bit more time, it should get stronger. "How strange people are, to when they are scared for their own survival, turn to attacking others......not like it'll increase their chances." she said, wiping of her bloodied knife's blade with a cloth she had kept with her for the knives.

Killian shrugged. "Some people are odd. With Amara leading us, I don't think we will have issues" he said. His black hair was in the usual mess while he pulled out a hunting knife. "Well, no hog, but still can use the bones and skin" he mumbled as he picked up the coyote. He slung it over his shoulders while he looked around to make sure they weren't being watched. He heard something the other day about Amara looking for a second in command as she needed some help, but he had no clue who she would pick.

Elara simply gave the young man a slight look that appeared unamused at his joke, but she supposed that it was good to know exactly why Amara had sent him with them. So, before turning, she threw him a small smirk of ammusment followed by a little huff, before turning to continue the search. A little while later Hope came up next to her and practically whispered. "Weird isn't it? How quickly times can change..." Elara took a moment before finally answering. " Yeah, I guess so. One minute you could be helping your little sister get ready for her first prom and the next....it's all gone." She responded. Her voice trailing slightly as she thought back to before the eruption. "But the past is behind us.... the dead are gone...and the living are hungry..." Elara finally said after a moment of silence. It was something that she had to repeat to herself, else she would break down at any moment. The world was cruel, and that was something she couldn't change now. "The next time I coyote is facing you, aim for the eye." She said after they had been walking for a bit. Not waiting for a response, she turned down a corner and and began collecting some more dandelions. "The dead are gone...the living are hungry..." she continued to mutter to herself as she collected.

Hope nodded to Elara. "Eye, got it." she said, then looked at Killian. "Hopefully.....but people can be unpredictable. Whether it comes from within our group or not, there will be issues eventually." she said. She glanced over. "Well, it still has some meat." she said, then spotted another couple racoons and quickly threw two knives simultaneously at them. They somehow both missed, and she let out a growl of frustration. The animals ran, scurrying further and further away until they were out of sight. She thought she heard whimpering nearby, and listened closer. She didn't hear it again, but it still made her heart break for whatever poor animal was left behind, and she shook her head, continuing to search. There didn't seem to be any more scuttling around, as she tried to listen for any scurrying nearby, but nothing. She flipped her knife in her hand again, beginning to wonder if one racoon and a skinny coyote would be enough for the group.

Thomas

The early morning air was cold enough to see his breath upon as he trudged through the ashen forest upon what once was a highway. The pain on the left side of his face still stung after the fire, which in an odd way brought him comfort. The aches reminded him that he was still alive and that he somehow survived where many failed. Should he feel pride in that? No, but yet he found solace in the simple fact he survived, so far anyway.

Three weeks. It had been three weeks since the Age of Fire erupted on the scene. He doubted many would have guessed it. He surely didn't, and here he was trudging through the forest, traveling the highway by foot. It was a lonely sight. Stopping before a sign, he read.

"Springfield, Twenty miles off exit 18... Close enough to make it by sundown if I keep a steady pace... Davenport, Thirty more down the bend. It's a straight shot from here... Leesburg, Fifty Six miles North off the merger... Could take a few days...", he muttered to himself with his low voice. Leesburg was a major city, which potentially had a decent stock of supplies if he was lucky. One could never know, the fires practically burned down the World. Earthquakes have happened at least twice in the past week, and from the last newspaper ever published a massive tsunami ravaged Japan clean off the map.

The headline read loud and clear to onlookers, "The End is Here!".

My lord it is indeed.

Arya

She shivered slightly in the early morning. Three weeks after the eruption, and it was still growing colder. She genuinely feared that she might turn into a popsicle during the night from hypothermia. She frowned for a moment at the thought, but slowly a small smile grew on his features. Maybe this time she could find a coat that actually fit her once she traded her current one in.

Yes, traded. She didn't lose her head when the eruption occurred. It was only a matter of time before the government settled things... When that happened looters beware! Major corporations will come with a vengeance for their stolen goods. At least, in Arya's perspective she offered a fair trade...

She quietly giggled at her mental rant. Sitting up, she allowed the dim light of the ashen cloudy to be welcomed to her senses. It was a gloomy day, very overcast, and offered a sense of melancholy to all. The sky, once a form of freedom to Arya now an omnipotent truth that she was ensnared, and trapped within this hellscape. Why did the world have to become so dark?... She missed the sun.

Maybe a positive was the others she ran into during the beginning. Amara, Killian, Hope, Elara and the others. They helped her shoulder the burdens of the World... Arya was thankful to have met them. It was growing harder everyday though. It was like an uphill battle, her hope slowly fading everyday.

"Just keep your head up, Arya...", she muttered.

Standing up, she began her day with a smile. Positivity is the best policy! While everyone was moping she needed to keep her head high, it was all she was certain she could offer when everything else in the World was so unpredictable. Making her way to Amara, she nodded slightly.

"Good Morning! How are you today?".

Killian looked at the girls before he sighed. "It's not easy, all this change, and with it getting colder, we really all need to be on alert. Never know how crazy people are going to get with looking for food" he mumbled. He remembered stories from his dad about people going hungry in his town and he shuddered to think it would happen to them, but better to be safe than sorry about it.

Amara looked over to see who spoke and nodded a hello to Arya. "Morning. Could be better if I could get the lazy ones up" she said as a joke, which cause James to speak up. "Haha, very funny" the male said with a yawn and stretching. Amara chuckled a bit before looking back at Arya. "Did you sleep alright? I know it's been harder to sleep with the cold" she said. *I wonder if we can find a place to patch up and use that as a base* she thought as she glanced at Iris who was starting to finally stir.
