appearance
ayakai is a rather tall, lithe individual, reaching 6'3" in height and weighing around 210 pounds. her legs are longer than her torso, which adds to her almost deer-like appearance. her skin is an iridescent sort of pale, that seems to glow in the light and become burnt extremely easily. her widely-set mint green eyes are framed by thick lashes, and sit atop her thin, triangle-shaped head. her slightly pointed nose is covered in light freckles that are scattered on her high cheekbones.
these freckles also dust her smaller shoulders, back, arms, and legs. her limbs are long and skinny, seemingly frail, but they give her an almost wraith-like appearance that allows her to dodge things with ease. her small and dainty hands are tipped in skinny fingers, with almost perfectly manicured nails. her long and naturally thick hair is a lovely shade of dark navy. it's almost always tied back into a large French braid, but when it's down, it becomes wavy and reaches her waist.
one of the many animalistic characteristics she retains in her human form is her eyes; her pupils are oval-shaped and horizontal. they're also slightly larger than your average human's eyes, giving her an eerie aura. another feature is her abnormally long limbs, which is the main factor of her height, as mentioned before. along with this, two large bumps of flesh and bone protrude from the middle of her back, just below her shoulder blades. she can flex these odd protrusions, but they don't help her until she has shifted. as you can probably infer, these bumps are where her wings sprout from.
ayakai usually wears a collection of odd clothing, compromising of layers covered in pockets, zippers, buttons, pins, bells, and other trinkets. the set of clothing that she wears the most, however, is a bluish-gray sleeveless jacket with multiple pockets, both inside and outside of the fabric, a white undershirt, ripped black jeans, and dark gray combat boots that are messily painted with orange butterflies. she also carries a white satchel that also has her signature orange butterflies painted on it.

personality
a very shy individual, ayakai is thoughtful and rather quiet. she prefers to think things through before acting and hates conflict. she loves to discover new things and is often caught wandering away during the night to explore. because of her curious nature, she often collects things she finds special and hoards them in her satchel.
she's quite the romantic. at least, that's what she thinks. in reality, she is actually quite easily flustered when flirted with and will almost always deny her feelings or run away. she's very gentle and loves to help the wounded, soothing one with a calming voice and steady hand.
despite her head always being in the clouds, she can get pretty focused on the little things and can become obsessed with them, which her responses increase tenfold. she has been described as a bit of a coward, as she doesn't enjoy conflict or violence, and will begin to cry if confronted.

skills
thanks to her grandmother, ayakai is exceptional at sewing and dressing wounds, specifically flesh wounds. her steady hand aids her to rarely mess up. because of her natural soft voice and gentle touch, she's able to soothe others (specifically younger children) easily.
as a result of roaming the outskirts of the forests near her home, she has acquired several animal "friends", specifically ravens, rats, and a multitude of squirrels. the ravens often bring her trinkets, which she adds to her ever-growing collection.

relationships
father and mother are deceased. only child. lives with her grandmother (on her father's side).
history
ayakai was born an orphan. her mother died the moment before ayakai rushed out of the womb, and her father was t-boned by a semi several hours earlier. at least, that's what she was always told. not a very good omen for the little baby.
she was left to be raised by her grandmother, a strict older lady that hated anything that was even slightly modern. she would often punish ayakai for wanting to go to the movies, or the mall, or even the arcade. as a result, ayakai grew to be quiet and reclusive, a young girl who always went along with whatever someone else wanted to do.
she lived a quiet life, learning to take care of herself and how to fix things. however, whenever she could find some time, she would slip away into the shadows of the forest and to the cliffs, where she would stay for hours, just sitting there.
but one day, she strayed too close to the edge of the gorge. she slipped, and before she could scream, she was free-falling. but then, all of a sudden, a great pain overwhelmed her. when she opened her eyes, she was gliding down to a ledge below. she was a beautiful doe, with the talons and wings of a bird. she didn't understand what was happening, nor did she quite like it; she was raised to not like new things. but as she learned to harness this strange shifting, so did she learn to hide it.
