Introduction:

You’ve always been a little bit off. Something just doesn’t… click, between you and most other people. There’s a slight disconnect between how you think and everyone else. Your home life doesn’t much help matters. Maybe your parents are just a little bit neglectful, maybe they’re outright abusive, but it isn’t exactly sunshine and daisies. Some of you have been able to feign normality so well sometimes you forget that you’ve ever been different. Others don’t even try, isolating themselves in their oddness. Maybe you know some of the others like you, maybe you don’t. But that doesn’t really matter right now. Because today, something is going to change. At some point, you’re going to figure out why you just don’t get humans. You’re going to learn that you aren’t quite one, and never have been.

Background:

Everyone’s character(s) is a little more than human. Each is the result of human experimentation, a mix of human and animal DNA to create superior soldiers. Grown in vats, they were distributed to operatives in order to be observed as they grew up, to be reclaimed once they began exhibiting the intended shapeshifting traits. But these operatives haven’t treated their subjects the best, and that lack of care has made each of the characters at least slightly untrusting of their ‘parents’. Suddenly gaining shapeshifting abilities isn’t going to encourage them to start telling their ‘parents’ about their lives.

Location:

Everyone lives in a small, rural town out in the middle of Oregon state. The town of Riverfell is several hundred miles away from the nearest town, situated just north of a large rocky gorge with a fast-flowing cold river at the bottom. Vast forests surround most of the town, lush and filled with wildlife. While Riverfell only has a population of about 1,300 people, it’s well-funded enough to be properly maintained. The school is split between two buildings, an elementary school and middle-highschool, both with prolific sporting teams. Football (American version) and lacrosse are the two major teams in the highschool, both teams sharing the same name of the Riverfell Cougars. Two movie theaters exist in the town, though both tend to play older, B-list films. A shopping mall is still up and running around the center of Riverfell, containing a few chain stores, an arcade, and an old laser tag place. Most of the rest of the town is residential, with a few gas stations and grocery stores scattered about. A majority of the people in the town are perfectly nice and normal, though there is a good number of undercover agents hiding around in plain sight.

Power Explanations:

~Every character is capable of changing into one kind of animal. That animal can be an extinct species or a hybridization, not just a ‘normal’ creature. A hybrid can look similar to a mythological creature, but CAN NOT possess features that wouldn’t come from its’ subspecies. Wholly natural forms (Non-hybridized; Extinct species count as natural) can be made to be unnaturally large up to their human form’s physical height. For example, a wolf shifter’s animal form can be as tall as their human form instead of waist-height, but a winged horse has to be either smaller or normally-sized for it’s base species. In the case of creatures considerably larger than the character, that animal should be shrunk down to fit around the character’s size. Sure, you can be a T-Rex, but you’d have to be a very short T-Rex.

~I’m going to pull ‘just a story’ rights and stating here that anything worn during a shift will disappear into the ether until the character turns back to the form that had the items. Only clothes and jewelry, though. Backpacks and items in your character’s hands will drop to the ground.

Character Sheet:

~The Strength, Speed, and Agility ‘stats’ show how capable your character is in that area. Strength is both physical power and stamina; The ability to hit hard and take hard hits in return. Speed is how fast you can move, and how long it takes you to get to that speed. Agility is both joint flexibility and maneuverability. Each is measured on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being ‘barely able to do this’, 5 being ‘I’m a normal person’, and 10 being ‘actual demigod’. You’ve got 24 ‘points’ to distribute between all the stats as a maximum limit, but you don’t have to use all of them. I will only let there be one character with a 10 for each of the stat values. Meaning, only one person can have a character with 10 strength, one with 10 speed, and one with 10 agility. No one pack can take two of the ‘maxed’ slots. If you do want to take one of those spots, remember that your character will have to also suffer in at least one other aspect in order to keep the balance.

~Being part animal has an effect on your characters! It’s mostly personality wise, such as a cat shifter being kind of lazy or a bird shifter really liking tall places, but you can have MINOR influences over their appearances. This has to be small, nearly imperceptible changes like being atypically warm or having stiff hair. You can’t have someone with slit-pupiled gold eyes, but they could have unusually oval pupils with yellow flecks in their iris. I’ll tell you if any animal attributes are too much, or if you can go a bit further. Feel free to add in animal instincts and actions that would be seen as weird by normal people!

~It’s alright to have unnatural colorations/patterns as long as the colors used do exist in nature. (Basically, no neon colors or galaxy patterns) A crimson deer is a-okay, but a glowing yellow crocodile isn’t.

5- Feel free to insert your own drama and subplots! Add your own lore or detail to something I’ve already typed up! Just be sure to notify me so I can paste it somewhere relevant.

6- I reserve the right to reject certain sections of a person’s RP sheet! I will tell you why, and the reason is usually going to be because something edged a little bit too far into the ‘overpowered’ or ‘Mary/Gary Sue’ category

7- Multiple characters are perfectly fine, so long as you use them all. PM me if you’d like to drop one or all of them, so we can disappear them from the RP

8-Try to make your posts 200+ words. I understand writer’s block, but that extra length gives everyone else something to work with

9- A kind of subset for the ‘no OP characters’ rule, try to keep things balanced! Glance over other character sheets to make sure yours is/are on a similar level.

Appearance-

~Human: Cain is, for the most part, pretty average and unremarkable. Despite a height of 6’ 4” and weight of about 230 pounds, Cain is surprisingly adept and not standing out. He’s got a trapezoidal torso, with wide shoulders and ribs but a thinner waist. Most of his body is built thick, more akin to a log in human form than the average lanky teen. While he does have musculature, it’s more from actual use rather than playing around in a gym to look pretty. His skin is a copper-tanned shade from frequent time out in the sun and woods, hands rough with callouses from climbing trees and rocks. His hands, arms, chest, and back are covered in raised scarring. Ranging from small cut lines all the way to tangled knots of lash scars. Cain prefers to keep his reddish-brown hair in a close crop to stay out of his eyes and to better fit in his football helmet. Ignoring his physique, Cain’s face is nothing to write home about. A too-square chin joined with a sharply angled jawline frames the bottom of his vaguely brick-shaped head, below high cheekbones absolutely covered with small, barely-visible freckles. His nose shows signs of having been broken before, and he has deep brown eyes, flecked with hints of red, orange, and gold in the right light. There’s no hint of lip or chin hair, as Cain finds facial hair to be both impractical and irritating. Most of the time Cain can be found wearing loose, overlarge t-shirts, typically a dark green, blue, or red shade. He often also wears long tan or brown cargo pants, covered in pockets and held up by an unadorned black leather belt. For shoes, Cain favors a pair of weathered heavy-duty steel toed work boots.They’re mostly made of a dark grey synthetic leather, with the soles being black rubber with metal cleats embedded in the material. While not the most practical for walking, they’re comfortable shoes and prevent his feet from getting wet. Whenever he plans to spend a long time out of the house (So most days, really), Cain will wear a black weather-proof jacket to keep any rain off. Beneath his clothes, Cain keeps a thick brass chain necklace against his skin.

~Animal: When shifted, Cain becomes a heavy-set winged saber toothed tiger. Standing at 5’ 7” tall from ear tip to ground and 11’ 8” long from nose to tail, he ends up weighing roundabouts 1,200 pounds altogether. With a wingspan of 11’ 2”, Cain is capable of flight, his wings located between and just behind his forelegs. Unlike most smilodons, his tail extends a good ways out from his body in order to help with balancing in flight. The two fangs the saber toothed tiger is known for are 7” long from his jaws. A thick mane extends from between his angular ears and runs down to about halfway down his spine, the long fur interspersed with feathers. His claws are slightly larger than the normal Smilodon, due to the influence of the Golden Eagle DNA. While he mostly resembles the typical Smilodon but with wings, larger claws, and a longer tail, there are other less obvious changes that have increased his animal form’s efficiency. Longer legs allow for an improvement upon the ‘base’ speed of the saber toothed tiger, and his front fangs have a more circular rather than oblong cross-section for more durability. Cain’s fur is thick and about an inch in length overall. As a base color, his fur is a deep golden-tan with a paler cream underside running from the lower jaw all the way down to the base of his tail. A stripe beginning at his nose runs down his spine all the way down to the tip of his tail, colored jet black like the fur of his mane. His wing feathers fade into a darker tan-brown rather quickly from their base, tipped black at the ends and speckled with reddish spots. Stripes similar to that of a tiger’s cover his torso, legs, and head in a dark grey color. Cain’s eyes turn a fiery orange-gold with crimson specks in the iris.

Personality-

~Cain appears to have it all. He’s popular, the sports kid. Fullback of the football team and a crease attackman on the lacrosse team. He’s involved in the three most popular teams, and as the past few years have been very successful for them, everyone on the sports teams have been loved by most of the student body. People are always around him, Cain is pretty much never alone. He’s always smiling, joking around with the other jocks. His grades are pretty average, with the odd outlier here and there in both directions. Cain absolutely loves the outdoors. When he isn’t in school or practicing for one of the teams, he’s out hiking in the woods or climbing through the rocks in the gorge. Cain spends as much time as he can outside his house, leaving as soon as he can and returning only once he absolutely has to. Anything physically demanding, Cain is interested in. Rock & tree climbing, parkour, laser tag. He wants to do it all. It keeps him out of his dad’s house, and independent. Cain has been able to keep his… less than typical instincts private by escaping into the woods whenever he feels off. It’s led to a kind of spotty attendance record, but he’s kept himself at least seeming to be normal.

Friends: Cain is a popular kid. He hangs out with the other members of the sports teams, but isn’t real friends with any of them. He smiles and laughs, talks and jokes with them, but doesn’t do much with them outside of that. People invite him over, or drag him to the mall, and he’ll go without complaint, but he doesn’t seek them out. They’re surface-level, people he walks near and eats besides, but none of them actually know him behind the ‘popular sports kid’.

3-Hating you comes as naturally to me as breathing, and I will go out of my way to fuck with you.
