Name:
Samael Bone
Nicknames:
Sam, Sammy, Sarge, Sgt. Bone (He does not find the later amusing. At all.)
Age:
26
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Unknown
Role:
Body Guard and Head of Security
Nationality:
American
Appearance:
The chief thing one would notice upon seeing Samael is his height. He is tall, even for 1950’s standard. He stands at a towering 6’3”, and upon learning his intensive background in the military and his hired job for the dig, his tanned caucasian physique is less surprising. The guard tends to carry himself with expert posture as well, which only further gives the impression that Sam tends to tower over his peers- not that that’s what he sees them as. The man’s body is expertly toned and sculpted, musculature only earned after years of exhausting training and draining drills. His shoulders are broad and his waist is slightly narrower, giving him an inverted triangle upper body.
Secondarily, and likely infuriatingly, Samael is admittedly attractive. His physical appearance is most likely the only appealing aspect of the man, as his attitude and personality is absolutely atrocious. He bears a diamond face-shape; his jawline strong and his cheekbones the widest part of his face. His cheekbones are high and defined and his chin is rather pointed. The man boast a scar on his left brow ridge, which leaves a portion of skin hairless vertically through said brow. His nose is slightly crooked, and it is evident that the appendage has been broken and poorly set multiple times, but Samael likes to think that it adds charm.
The man’s eyes are a cold and calculated gray-blue, typically narrowed and always annoyed. His long lashed are typically downcast, giving him the appearance of always having his eyes half-lidded, though this is likely due to the fact that he usually has to look down at others when he speaks to them to maintain eye contact. Samael has dark brown, nearly black hair. During his service, he wore it short and cropped, but now that he is no longer required to keep it short his hair has grown out a bit. It’s in a low fade with fringe style, the sides slightly buzzed while the hair atop his head remains long. It’s not terribly long, short enough to stand up but long enough where if it’s wet it will cut into his eyes. His face is rarely clean shaven, but rather sports a five o’clock shadow, his facial hair equally as dark as the hair atop his head.
Bland but elaborate would be the proper statement for his clothing. He is always wearing a uniform consisting just of black hues. Nothing more, nothing less. A modified military uniform is what his outfit consists of, compressing tactical cloth paired with protective pads on his knees and elbows. He dons an equally black tactical vest as it offers the best for load bearing, due to the fact that the man keeps a consistent supply of ammo and various tools such as a flashlight. On his left arm he wears a brace outfitted with a Bowie knife, though so far he hasn’t had to touch any of his weaponry much to his relief. Across his waist he wears a bandolier, again with extra ammo just in case despite the fact that the majority of the supplies he brought with him pertain to the upkeep and maintenance of his armory.
Across his back Samael carries a military grade rifle, which is retrofitted with a light- not that it does much in the pitch black of the caves. He does have a fairly basic pistol on a holster on his right thigh, but as far as he is concerned the weapons are just precautionary. Sam has a black balaclava with the lower portion of a skull on it, which is usually loose around his neck though it comes in handy for navigating dusty underground systems. He isn’t really expecting much trouble deep in the Earth. He does have some tattoos, but they are all covered. No peeking.
Personality:
-•Ill-Mannered, Apathetic, Irritable, Grim, but at least he’s Attractive•-
~Ill-Mannered~
In laymen’s terms, Samael is your definition of an asshole. He is inconsiderate of others, audaciously rude and never apologizes. He likes to believe that the world revolves around him, and that a life without his presence is no life at all.
~Apathetic~
Nowadays, Sam would likely be diagnosed with psychopathy purely and strictly for his lack of empathy, remorse and how callous and manipulative he can be. He simply has no concern for others. Unless that is what he is being paid for, of course. The man is perfectly capable of faking concern for the wellbeing of others if it is in his best interest and in the long run will benefit his cause. Sam is however impassive and stoic, which could be considered a benefit as he treats all without bias. Thats not to say he treats them kindly though, he is fair and provides equality in his impartial cruelty.
~Irritable~
Opposite to his height, Samael has an infamously short temper. He loathes repeating himself and is made irate astoundingly quick. The most minor of offenses could set him off, and he seems to be in a constant state of agitated turmoil. Sensitive is not a word to describe him, despite his hair-trigger temperance. Similarly, he could also be considered lax. While things that may seem insignificant anger him, there are times where he is completely unbothered by anything and everything. It seems to vary by the hour.
~Grim~
Prepares for the worst and expects the worst. He does not sugar-coat things and has a knack for understanding when circumstances are dire, namely because he’s been in far too many ghastly situations to count. This at least makes him prepared for nearly any scenario. Samael is brutally blunt, which often gets him dirty glances thrown his way. He just calls things as he sees them.
~Funny~
Oddly enough, the guy goes have a decent sense of humor. You wouldn’t think he is the type to joke around, as he usually isn’t, but he can prove to be good company. While he may unearth hopeless situations, he can at least make light of them. His sense of humor certainly is morbid, however. Not everyone’s cup of tea certainly. Especially in tunnel systems that could collapse at any moment.
~Authoritative~
Unsurprisingly, Samael likes to be in control. He viciously sticks to the chain of authority and absolutely does not tolerate any disrespect. To say he is a control freak would be a severe understatement. He will try to control even what he physically cannot. To be treated with respect is what Sam expects from the members of the group, though that’s not to say he will return the favor. His respect and approval is something you have to buy, and the price is colossally steep- ask Mr. Lyons.
Specialized skills:
-•Physical Activity, Hand-to-Hand Combat, Survival, Ballistics Expert, Special / Clandestine Operations•-
~Physical Activity~
In peak physical health so he is capable of great feats of strength and endurance, including but not limited to running, swimming and fighting.
~Hand-to-Hand Combat~
His grueling time in the military honed his martial arts capabilities, making him proficient in offensive and defensive attacks.
~Survival~
Basic survival, he can get by if he’s stranded.
~Ballistics Expert~
Again, military experience garnered him priceless skill and proficiency with firearms and projectiles.
~Special / Clandestine Operations~
He specialized in Special Operations and spent the majority of his service behind enemy lines, and he is not afraid to dabble in illicit territory.
Strengths:
-•Strength, Tenacity, Fortitude, Leadership, Prudent, Socially Intelligent, Cunning•-
~Strength~
Physical strong and can withstand numerous trials and tribulations.
~Tenacity~
For better or for worse, he does not know how to quit. He is relentless with his pursuance regardless of the outcome, so one way or another the job will get done. Guaranteed.
~Fortitude~
Extremely courageous and brave, probably unhealthily so. His spirit and mind are almost as strong as his body.
~Leadership~
Natural born leader, though he has difficultly listening to others. He likes to be on the front-lines.
~Prudent~
Cautious with his actions and thoroughly thinks things through, Samael is very decisive and has full confidence in his reasonings.
~Socially Intelligent~
Even though he hardly acts like it, he is extremely socially aware and knows how to behave in a crowd and blend in. He just chooses not too.
~Cunning~
Cutthroat may be a better term, but the guy is effective. By any means necessary.
Weaknesses:
-•Narcissist, God-Complex, Unforgiving, Arrogant, Cynical, Obsessive, Inconsiderate•-
~Narcissist~
Does not handle criticism or advice well- at all actually.
~God-Complex~
Definitely thinks he is God’s gift to the earth, but with his track record can you blame him?
~Unforgiving~
Samael doesn’t make mistakes (even though he certainly does- a lot matter of fact) so he doesn’t except mistakes in return. Or excuses. Screw him over and he will take it to the grave.
~Arrogant~
Has an extremely inflated sense of pride and ego.
~Cynical~
He has no hope in humanity, and his actions and words tend to reflect that. He also assumes the worse outcome possible, every single time.
~Obsessive~
Again, he is unhealthily obsessed with completing the current task, and will do quite literally whatever to reach said goal.
~Inconsiderate~
Has no room for the opinions or feelings of others. He has his own shit to deal with so he would prefer to not deal with yours, thanks.
Fears:
-•Atychiphobia, Betrayal, Not being in Control, Somniophobia•-
~Atychiphobia~
Has the ever-lurking fear of failure. It is the driving force of his success.
~Betrayal~
As Sam is so cynical, he automatically goes to the default assumption that everyone is out to get him and has a magnificently hard time trusting others. Definitely not unfounded.
~Not being in Control~
The military was good for him, as it made him divulge control. Now he craves it.
~Somniophobia~
Samael is plagued with vivid, horrid nightmares one could possibly not describe, so he hardly sleeps. In fact he avidly avoids sleeping, throwing himself into his work. He won’t listen to arguments about how unhealthy that is.
Affiliations / Team Thoughts:
Tolerate would be the appropriate term, though he does hold a mutual respect for Mr. Lyons.
June Bell Moone - They tend not to get along too very well, as they are both unfathomably stubborn so they clash heads at times. Samael also seems to have a cruel knack of teasing Ms. Moone due to, what he considers, to be a ridiculous fear of birds. As Sam tends to mention death rathor vigorously, that often brews a point of contention between he and the archaeologist.
Calixte Bonnaire - Where to begin. If Samael could find a secluded enough spot and if Cal were dumb enough, he would've already tried to strangle the life out of the man. They get along horribly, and have already gotten into numerous scuffles and arguements. Cal seems to exist only to be the bane of Sam's existance. The feelings certainly seem to be reciprocated, as more often than not Calixte is seen lecturing Samael on his blatant lack of manners and cruel sarcasm.
Dimitri Atticus Raine - Samael quite frankly does not seem to mind Dimitri, though the lad probably does not get that impression. While Sam is not overly cruel to the young man, the guard isn't very nice either. He tends to tease him relentlessly due to his young age and lack of physical prowess, but that is the extent of his severity. He does try to keep on good terms with the medic, even if he seems to be a bully. Which is fair, because he is.
Marijana Elena Marjanović - Mutual toleration is perhaps the best term. Samael does not seem to have a strong opinion one way or another on the mechanic, and he hasn't interacted with said engineer enough to garner a valid opinion on his own character.
Alexis D. George-Sanchez - Probably to the suprise of many, Samael does not hate the company of the zoologist. While it is certainly true that he does not seek out their company, it is not the worst thing ever. As they both tend to be inconsiderate and insensitive, the worry of offending is never at the forefront of their conversations.
Victoria Valentina Viola - Samael actually does not seem to mind the young woman. Perhaps it is a sense of commaderie as Victoria shares a similar war background to him, or be it the fact that the two are equally arrogant and cocksure. Whatever it may be, their relationship is pleasant. Perhaps he is also drawn to the lurking darkness that rears its head from time to time. They tend to get on like a house on fire.

Backstory:
Born in 1927, not much is known about his family life, simply due to the fact he does not and will not discuss it. It seems his family was composed of religious socialites however based by Samael’s demeanor and, well, his name. Anyways. He joined the United States Marine Corps at the ripe age of 17, in 1944 at the tail end of World War II. He excelled his way through boot camp, and his mindset allowed him to rapidly comprehend and adapt. In total, he served for seven years before an untimely discharge. Throughout those seven years, it would be a valid statement to say he was a different person. He excelled at being part of a team and forged iron-clad relationships. He was trusting and in return trustworthy. His sheer prowess in combat and intelligence made him one of the first Marines scouted to be apart of the newly established, elite covert group known as the Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance. It was here where his skill and talent truly flourished, and he earned the rank of Sergeant and was on track to become Staff Sergeant.
In 1950 he and his platoon were deployed behind enemy lines in North Korea, during the Korean War. Samael’s official military records are sealed, but there is no doubt about the magnitude of the operations he led and was apart of. In the beginning of 1951, circumstances he refuses to discuss led to him being the only survivor of his platoon. Whatever went down resulted in the Sergeant being awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. It is assumed he was injured, as alongside his Honorable Discharge was a Medical Separation order. He tried to be re-enlisted, but he has since been denied. The retired life was not for him however, so he got into the business of private contracting. It was through a job in Tanzania where Samael met Mr. Victor Lyons, and the rest was history. Lyons seemed to like the ex-military for hire enough to conscript him for a job, and since then he’s done contracts for the billionaire now and then. So he wasn’t particularly shocked to see the letter addressed to him.
