Eira
Female || 5 years || Pack Member || Mentions: Kyomi, Open
Indirectly Mentions: None

The female strode, her long legs making her appear elegant in a manner. However, her pace had increased, as had her frustration upon playing back the argument she had just been in. She worried for Cadmus, she truly did. He didn't see their parents and how manipulative their ways were. Eira knew little of love, but she knew enough that their parents didn't show any towards them. He was too blind to see it now, but one day he'd realize that she was right.

Head lowered, it had briefly shot up upon listening to her name being called. Whipping around, Eira was prepared to break out into another argument before realization had hit her. It wasn't Cadmus calling her. The sound was feminine, and was confirmed when she espied Kyomi approaching. "Oh, Kyomi. You won't believe what I've been through today," she sighed. If she had a hand, it would be placed upon her forehead dramatically.

She knew that her dearest friend was still unsure about where her loyalty lay, but that didn't stop Eira from constantly bringing up the subject, especially when Cadmus was involved. "I'm quite alright. It's the usual argument. I'm sure most are used to it already." Her eyes glanced behind Ky, watching Cadmus vanish. He was probably returning to the border. Good riddance. Maybe a walk would clear his clouded mind.

"I should be asking you if you're alright. How are you feeling?" She asked, motioning briefly to Kyomi's stomach. Unlike other individuals, Eira didn't mind Kyomi's state. She had known for a while now, and if it bothered her, she didn't show it. In fact, Eira hardly thought that it was a large issue. So Ky grew pregnant and was declared mateless, was that truly such a large ordeal? There were greater things to worry about than a mother and her pups.

It irked Eira in a sense, thus she strove to protect her friend and any of her future pups to the greatest of her abilities. If Ky was self-conscious of her stomach, Eira was there to step in by either placing her body in a position to block unwanted viewers, or by doing something so that attention was upon her. If Ky was being spoken ill about, Eira was there to set things in and remind others to better focus their words on something else. Regardless of the situation was when it came to Kyomi, Eira would be there to help her.

"Are they giving you any trouble yet?" She teased lightly, a soft smile upon her features as she walk slowly alongside of Kyomi. "Now, nevermind that, I have more important issues to discuss," a serious expression crossed her face, "I have thought about it long and hard, and I have decided that your pups shall call me a simple Aunt Eira. It was a long and hard decision, but it was between that, or Auntie E, and that doesn't seem very me, does it?" Oh, Eira was very open about wanting to be in Kyomi and her pup's lives. One would think that with the amount of worrying she did about them, she was the mate or expectant mother.

Kyomi
Female | 4 Years | Pack Member | Mentions: Eira, Maeve, Open

A soft look overtook the female's face as Eira turned around, and she offered a warm smile. There was nothing rigid or malicious about the female, and even though her reputation had beent tarnished by her prior love interest, it hadn't done anything to hinder her kind disposition. At least not towards her best friend, it made her a bit more wary of those she didn't know, but she was working through it.

Her ears twitched up and to the sides as Eira spoke and she nodded gently. Unlike Cadmus and Eira, who were on either side of the spectrum, Kyo was more so in the middle. She didn't know exactly who she preferred, Eira's parents or Leviathan, but she was willing to give the latter a shot before she came to a full opinion. Honestly she just wanted what was best for her pups at this point.

"I'm sure Cadmus has the capability to see with his own eyes, Eira. It just might take some time for him to think on his own. It's very hard for anyone to see past the illusion their parents carry to see they aren't perfect," she murmured softly, both siding with Eira and not. Sure, from what she had heard and seen, Maeve and Vilho weren't as perfect as Cadmus seemed to think, but she also wasn't sure they were as bad as Eira seemed to believe either.

Her attention shifted to her belly as she sat down and she chuckled softly. "Well, they've started to move around in there, so I'm sure they're going to start giving me a hard time soon," she offered, lifting a paw up to show as her belly twitch a bit. It was hardly visible, but she knew they've become more active in the coming weeks.

"But I'm alright," she said, a tired tone in her voice, her weight shifting as she got more comfortable. Her ears perked at the mention of what Eira wanted her pups to refer to her as.

"I don't know Eira, I think Auntie E is perfect, but I think they're also probably going to call you whatever they can pronounce first. You could wind up being called Auntie Ear for all we know," the female teased lightly, her features lighting up as she smiled. Kyomi was a pretty wolf, maybe not the prettiest of them, but there had been time when she could catch the eye of many. Now, though, she didn't even care if anyone looked her way. Sometimes she believed it would be better if no one did ever again.

Her jaws parted as she was about to speak again, only to snap her jaws shut when a grating voice sent the hair on her snap standing up. Her head snapped around as a tall wolf, paler than herself, approached the pair, a cold look on her whethered features. She recognized the female immediately and found herself instinctively placing herself behind Eira, allowing the stronger female the forefront of the interaction.

"Eira," the voice like a dying tree cooed a second time, false love grating in the tone. "I'm not surprised to find you in such.... company... this afternoon, but tell me, where can I find my brilliant son?" Disdain edged her clipped words as the tall female looked down her muzzle at the two. Kyo knew the female cared nothing for her, and she was quick to give the previous beta a wide berth.

*Side note: Orion is not from the pack*

Orion
Male || 5 Months || Pup || Mentions: Koa, Ronin

His mother always told him that attacks were most common at night. If that was true, then why was he in the middle of one now?

The day had begun just like it always had. Orion would awake next to his siblings and mother (his father was never in the picture and his mother refused to speak of him), and would proceed to crawl out of their den. There, he would be met with brightness from the sun lighting up the land through the leaves of the cascading trees. Orion's life was simple this morning, and now?

Well, now Orion was being ushered forwards by his mother as they ran for their lives.

"Where are they? Where did Aura and Eris go?" The pup asked, head turning around in all directions trying to pinpoint his siblings and their locations. He finally glanced to his mother, noting tears in the corner of her eyes. "Aura and Eris are safe now. Nothing can harm them. Not anymore." Orion wasn't stupid. He could tell by his mother's voice that they were dead.

"Where are we going?" He was too big to carry. His mother was a fragile thing. Lithe, weak, scrawny, her frame meant for running instead of fighting. Orion took a bit after her with his long legs and awkward stance, but he hoped that he'd grow out of it. "We're going somewhere that nobody can harm us. We're going to safety." He couldn't help but notice that she hadn't truly answered his question. "You don't know where to go, do you?" He asked quietly as they ran, to which his mother suppressed a small whimper of a sob. "We're going to run until we lose track of them. We cannot afford to stop or catch our breath. If anything is to happen to me, and if you should hear anything, you keep running, do you understand me, Orion?" His mother risked a look at him, to which he nodded. "I won't let you down," he replied, offering a weak smile before suddenly being tackled to the ground.

"Hide," his mother spoke, her voice panicking as she shoved him into the safety of a thorny bush. "Ma?" This was confusing. Orion was so very confused. He wasn't sure-

"No matter what you see, do not utter a sound. Make yourself invisible, Orion. Making yourself one with the forest. I-" She never did have time to finish telling him that she loved him, for within mere moments, three wolves entered the vicinity. "An escapee?" The voice snarled, followed by a deep laugh. Orion couldn't hear any words, for he pinned his ears against his skull, watching as his mother was cornered.

She was speaking to them-

No, she was preparing to fight and-

They threw herself onto her! Orion watched as his mother made eye-contact with him, and he stepped forwards, preparing to help her. To do anything. He watched as she shook her head at him, eagerly, and he forced himself with all of his willpower to step back. He understood little, but he understood the message she was trying to send him.

He watched as she fought them, giving the enemies wounds and bruises. For a moment, Orion believed that she would win. She had to. Three wolves were nothing for his mother. She raised pups by herself. Fought her way up to survive. She was small, but she was strong. She was invincible. She had to be. But within minutes, he watched as his small, fragile, kindhearted mother finally fell, her motionless eyes resting on him, a gentle smile on her face.

She was dead, too.

Orion wanted to run up to her. To see if she was alright, but he stayed put. He was silent. He did what she asked. He was always a good listener. So the pup waited. He watched as the three wolves chuckled at one another before stepping away. For a moment, he believed himself to be safe.

How foolish he was.

"What is this?" A sudden voice rang behind him, causing Orion to look up and behind him. There, a wolf with a missing eye glared back at him, saliva dripping off of his teeth and falling onto the ground, coating Orion's paws. "I- I- I-" He stuttered, watching as the wolf leaned in. "I- I- I-" The wolf mimicked before throwing his head back and laughing. "You're mommy wasn't very smart now, was she?" The wolf grinned, leaning in through the thorn bush. Orion stared at him before something (his survival instincts, perhaps?), told him to do something, so he did. He swiped at the one-eyed wolf, wounding his muzzle. He stood for a moment before dashing away from the bush and his dead mother.

"Get the rat!" Was all Orion heard. The scream was loud, angry, violent. So the pup ran. He ran with all of his might, using his small stature to his advantage and ducking beneath bushes and fallen logs. He would make the route difficult to follow.

He ran for what felt like miles.. For what felt like hours, and still, he knew he was being followed. And then, like a miracle, he saw two figures. They were different. They weren't from any of the packs. They would help him. They had to. And if they didn't, at least he would die trying. "Help!" He screamed, sprinting up to them, tripping over his paws due to fatigue as he did so. "Please, my mother! They hurt her! They're going to kill me!" Both of the wolves.. Both strangers had black pelts. Now, he could see that one was male, the other female. Both were large. Even the female looked massive. They had the potential to help him.. He needed them!

Sprinting, he came to a halt before them. "Please.. help me." Would nobody hear his cries of desperation? Had he found his help, or possibly another enemy.

Enigma

Female - Pack Member - 4 years - Mentions: Leviathan

Pathetic. Everything was pathetic…

As Enigma laid in the sun, her black fur slightly glistened from the dirt that had settled ever so gracefully on the ends of her fur. Her hazy, cold yellow eyes glanced around. She was trying analyze her surroundings to the best of her ability. However, her thoughts where rudely interrupted by her growling stomach. She hadn't eaten for a day or two. "This clumsy Alpha is going to starve us to death…" She muttered to herself. Enigma had no real trust in this new Alpha. This illegitimate son who comes out of nowhere one day when old pops keels over and dies has somehow managed to suddenly take command in a blink of an eye. Pathetic. This pack is grossly dramatic. All this fuss over one wolf? Enigma couldn't believe it. Although, part of her wanted to fake being upset about the new Alpha like everyone else, but the real her had some sort of hope. It would be a miracle if this wolf, this lonesome, petty wolf could make some sort of impression to any female. Good luck I say to him. A cold looking smile spread across Enigma's face.

She had plans. Big plans. At least she thought they were. She thought through them as she stood up to shake her pelt. Dust and dirt scattered in the air around her. She gazed up at the sky and sniffed the air. She took a few steps forward away from her spot under the low hanging tree roots and then lowered her head. Winter's coming. "That should be pleasant…" She muttered sarcastically to herself again.

Enigma quietly made her way to the pile of kills from past hunts. She stayed in the shadows of the trees and boulders to avoid detection. Stopping, she put her nose to the ground. She raised her head slightly. A few of her pack member's scent filled the air. Enigma suddenly caught sight of the king himself. Look at him sitting on that stupid boulder. Why is that here? Why is he here? An angry sensation coursed through Enigma's veins. She let out a loud sigh of frustration. She stood a good distance away from Lev's spot on the giant rock. The hazy yellow eyes analyzed their surrounds once more. The pile of prey was now a pile of bones. Wonderful.

Enigma rolled her eyes. Slipping out of the shadows, she stood straight and trotted over to the boulder where the Alpha of the pack sat observing. Enigma felt weird approaching him. It felt unnatural and uncomfortable. She didn't frequently address the alpha or betas for that matter. Usually, she went with the flow and didn't ask questions, but this time she had to find out if this new heir was capable.

"Good afternoon..uh..Lev." She stood below his eyesight and felt incredibly inferior to him. Enigma always hated authority figures, especially in a pack this size. "I was curious if you had any sort of plans for hunting later on?" She asked in a shaky voice. She wasn't nervous at all, but she wanted to make him think she was. As she played in the dirt in front of her with her paw, she could only think about herself and how hungry she was. This idiot better have plans, she thought angrily.

(golly, writer's block…this is iffy -_- )

Koa
Male | 7 Years | Eastern Sentry | Mentions: Ronin, Orion, NPC’s

The border had been quiet in the early hours. Nothing important had happened. The birds had chirped, animals had brushed past them in efforts to get last-minute preparations for winter, the calls of deer herds in the distance to the west. Nothing but ordinary sounds. Not even clouds had disturbed the sunlight filtering into the forest, not even the wind dared to push against the leaves too loudly.

The first alarm bell in his head was that the patrol from the other pack had not come by their border. Their opposition worked efficiently, like clockwork. Every day, by midday, the patrol of three wolves minimum passed by their eastern border, refreshed scent markings, and did a brief search to check for both Koa and Ronin. The pair had never allowed themselves to be seen, not by that many eyes. Their little hidey-hole had become their home away from home over the years, and it welcomed them even now, late in the fall.

“It’s odd,” he muttered, lifting his head to, once again, peer between the thickets towards the border. He knew he didn’t need to say anything else--Ronin would understand. The rise of the sun that morning had marked their second day posted at the border, as they had made the trip out there the day before. Every sentry pair spent days at a time at their respective borders, and it was why it was, often, rare to see more than one sentry pair in the camp at one time.

He missed being able to see the others frequently, he missed seeing the northern sentries, Caelan and Imani. They spent weeks at a time up in the mountains, having difficulty hunting and merely surviving. But he was happy here, pressed against his own partner, sharing space and breath, sharing thoughts and glances that meant more than words could ever portray.

It was when he heard shouts in the distance that Koa snapped to attention, lifting his head and pushing his ears forward. Quietly, he murmured: "Ronin," as a way of warning, giving her a moment, before he pushed himself to his paws and walked closer to their border. What on earth--? His thoughts cut off when he spotted a little cream body speeding towards him, a pup. The little creature had been tripping over the undergrowth, legs far too long for it to know what to do with them. Then the pup's words reached his ears.

Help! Please, my mother! They hurt her! They're going to kill me!

His instincts kicked in before his brain did, and Koa sped forward to meet the pup part of the way towards them. With expertly placed paws, he maneuvered around and over the juvenile, putting his body between the little cream pup and the border, where ‘they’ would be following it. If they had hurt the mother and were now coming after the pup, then the mother was dead. There was no hope for her anymore.

“Get the pup, we need to report this to Leviathan,” he stated, keeping his face turned towards the border, even if his body began turning back towards their own territory. What would the other pack gain from killing a mother and pup? Did the pup have siblings? Were the siblings even alive, if they existed?

Spotting a mimimum of four figures coming towards them from the shadows, Koa briefly turned to look at his partner, gaze hard and voice harder. "We must not engage. We cannot fight them and protect the pup at the same time. You get a head start with the pup, I'll make sure we aren't followed." The male didn't offer room for argument, snapping his attention back to the border.

"Do not cross that border!" He called, voice rough and low, deep and powerful, in an attempt to stave off the attackers. If they needed to, he knew that they could fight them, but it would not be optimal.

Rojanae

Female || 4.5 years || Pack Member || Mentions: Open
(Ind.) M: Leviathan

The white female rolled lazily onto her back, she had been snoozing for some time now, unsure of how to carry on her afternoon. Ro rotated her position so that her four paws became slightly bent in the air, and so she could take a good look at the spread-out pack. Even though it was now early afternoon, the forest was still lacking in proficient lighting due to the dense terrain, though it didn't take long for her eyes to adjust after waking up from her snooze.

Soon her thoughts strayed to the turning of the season, which would be approaching sometime in the near future, as the pack was now experiencing late fall. The thought of winter approaching excited the female, her fur color was not meant for autumn colors, nor summer, and with the promise of snow looming in the future, the she-wolf was looking forward to it.

Ro had a rare daydream, where she could still vividly picture the large white flakes that swirled around in the sky, it was such a captivating sight when she was a pup, and she still found it interesting to watch. Then the following sensation the snowflakes left after they melted on your snout was hard to describe, but she enjoyed it nonetheless. Winter was definitely this wolf's favorite season.

A sudden movement was caught the peripheral vision of the white wolf's eyes and she jerked back her to her stomach and out of her daydream. -A part of her concerned with the time lost during it, even if she couldnt do much outside of camp this season-. A light dust cloud was stirred from the spot in which she had been laying and her back was now dusty. With a huff she strained to see what it had been. The movement had just come from the packs alpha, who had moved on top of the larger boulder, which was closer to the center of the den site. Ro quickly settled back down, releasing a small sigh before resting her head on the front of her paws.

The female expected a meeting to be called soon, and decided to spend some time mentally preparing for what the alpha had to say. Her gaze flicked away from the boulder and away from the alpha, though Leviathan had come to the position a week ago, Ro was still unsettled and unsure of him and did not believe he could be trusted yet.

Cyre || Female || 16 || Elder || M : Everyone (Ind)

The ancient female walked with an unsteady waver as she made her way from the shade to a patch of sunlight. Midday had come and gone, though not long ago, and the heat of the day was coming on. Cyre had grown tired of the shadows that she had once so enjoyed; now, her old bones could barely take moderately cool temperatures.

She parted her scarred maw to release a heavy sigh as she eased herself down, stretching her paws out in front of her and tucking in her back legs and tail. Her eyes, tired and clouded but still alight with fire, surveyed the wolves around her. Cyre adopted a forlorn expression as she observed Eira and Cadmus part ways with stormclouds hanging over their heads, Kyomi moved to the female, and Leviathan watched from his perch.

The old wolf rested her grayed head on grayed paws and dropped her eyelids to stare at the ground in front of her. She decided she would give herself time to soak up the sun before attempting to quell any disputes. Kyomi seemed to be calming Eira down, for now, but the siblings had only speaking aloud what was going through everyone's heads. Well, besides the parenting part.

Minus the mommy and daddy issues, though, the argument was becoming increasingly common. Words were whispered in the shade of trees and crevaces, wind carried rumors from border to border, and distrust grew by the hour. But what could an old sentry do? She was no longer strong enough to send a full grown wolf into a quaking fear at her booming voice. She could no longer stand to her full height, could not appear imposing.

So, she would wait. She'd become nearly photosynthetic in the past week, eating little and sleeping more. Cyre was not about to leave just yet, though; the howls of the ancestors could wait. Right now, the wolves she had loved and protected for over a decade were breaking apart and she was going to muster the last of her reserves of energy to keep them together as long as she could.

A look of determination crossed her grizzled face and she suddenly raised her head. Her ears were pricked, her muscles tensed, and her eyes clear. Yes, she would attempt to fix this rift. Enemies drew ever nearer; the pack needed unity, and she was going to make sure they achieved it.

Leviathan
Male | 5 Years | Alpha | Mentions: Enigma, Open

The mocha colored wolf was sitting quietly, observing the pack, thoughts trailing through his mind, when movement to the side caught his attention. His ear flicked as someone approached his rock, but, for a moment, he paid them no mind. His attention was on the two females who were chatting after the one's argument with her brother.

One was the oldest daughter of the demoted betas, and the other was the pregnant female often shamed for being mateless and with pup. He personally didn't care for the shame others tried to give her, but she seemed to be handling well, so he hadn't stepped in yet. It wasn't like he didn't have to deal with his own image issues.

A feminine voice from his side drew the male's attention over to the dark female who had approached his boulder. His ears flicked and he blinked for a moment at her before turning forward. "Yes," he simply answered, "I do." Was inclined to share them with her? Not really, no. Would he? Perhaps.

"There will be a hunt today, after leading the successful hunt the other day, though, I've decided I will be allowing someone else to take the lead with the one today," his voice came out in a nonchalant tone, not worried about the out come of this particular hunt. Wolves weren't always successful in hunts, most often they weren't, but being successful this hunt would just be a bonus for him. This would be a test of whoever lead the hunts capabilities of leading.

He did, after all, still have to find Betas.

Larkspur || Female || 5 || Pack Member || M: Leviathan, Enigma, Others (Ind)

She felt stagnant.

Larkspur curled her lip ever so slightly as she paced back and forth in the shade of the trees along the edges of the camp, tail straight and ears twitching constantly. There were still hours to go until dusk, when the prey would be most plentiful, and she was itching to take down something big. Anything big.

Her frustration over Chocktaw's complete refusal of Leviathan's authority bothered her. How could he be so... so immature? Could he not see the legitimacy of the new alpha's claims? Leviathan was the son of the previous alpha male and, therefore, in her eyes, had a very real claim to the succession of leadership. While the beta pair would take over in a normal situation -- and this was anything but normal -- there was a living son. An heir. How was that not legitimate?

It wasn't Leviathan's fault that his father had gotten a little cuddly with a pack member. The fact that he had not killed his son when he was born proved that Leviathan was at least a backup plan, right? Ah, well, it wasn't possible to find out for sure now.

The word "hunting plans" reached her ears, which immediately swiveled in the direction the sound had come from. Enigma had approached Leviathan about hunting plans. Interest piqued, and having had the desire to hunt anyhow, she approached the pair.

"I would be more than willing to join a hunting party, Alpha, or lead one if need be," she offered. Larkspur couldn't hide the eagerness in her eyes. The thrill of the hunt, the blood, the bond -- now that was what packs were for. "We haven't hunted to the west in a while; I am sure the prey will be abundant and it may help deter loners."

Having a brother who complained about the border issues had its perks, even if it meant spending an hour listening to Chocktaw rant about his tail. Larkspur dismissed her littermate from her mind for the present time and shifted her gaze briefly to Leviathan's before respectfully lowering it once again. Her paws itched to run through the woods on a hunt; perhaps this would be a good one.

Chocktaw || Male || 5 || Sentry || M: (All Ind) Cadmus, Kyomi, Leviathan, Vilho, Maeve, Others

The border had been quiet since Cadmus had run back to camp. The dark male wasn't judging his partner -- camp was fun and all, if only for the gossip -- but it did get terribly quiet and mundane whenever the larger brute left.

Chocktaw suppressed a sigh and shifted slightly to keep his paws from falling asleep. His spot in the shadows provided ample cover in case another wolf were to show themselves, and the wind was in his favor, blowing into his face. The role of silent sentry seemed useless now, though. It had been almost deathly quiet since the battle in which the previous alpha pair and their full-blood heir had been killed.

It was a needed break for the pack; Vilho and Maeve were basically foaming at the mouth at Leviathan's sudden claim for the alpha position. It was understandable, too, considering how tradition had been tossed to the wind and several wolves were actually willing to follow the bastard. He took a moment to clarify to himself that he meant bastard denotatively, not as an insult.

Not that he liked Leviathan or anything. He had uprooted the pack, and now they were split. They had barely come out of one battle and now he was throwing them into a civil war. Chocktaw's tail tip was missing, he had a few lovely gashes, and for what? His blood family to side against his bond family?

Chocktaw had sided with his partner. Cadmus was more a sibling than Larkspur was these days, though he knew she loved him and he loved her. It was just so much easier to be around someone who shared... well... everything. Besides, not even his blood sister knew that he had the hots for Kyomi.

Oh, stars, if Larkspur ever found out about his secret admiree, he'd be worse than dead. She wouldn't tell, he thought, but her knowing would be the most humiliating torment he would ever endure. Blinking away those thoughts, he focused again on the task at hand and patiently awaited the return of Cadmus.
