Another WIP (yeah, I like to work little bits at a time on different projects so that I don't get burned out on one). Unsettling birb! :> This funky dude is a trial and error project. He's made out of hardcore paper mache (industrial strength glue for structural support. This dude is so lightweight to wear, but you can drop him all over the place and he won't dent. He's super stronk). I haven't done anything paper mache in like...years, I don't know, probably around 10 years? It's been a hot minute. With that being said, I like that I can create a somewhat realistic-looking head without having to spend a few hundred dollars on a resin base, or spend a rediculous amount of time trying to make something look realistic with foam. This guy's fur looks poofy as fuck right now, but that's only because I have just enough fur attached to cover the front of the head. Once it gets sewn down, it'll be more streamlined. Oh, and he won't be just a birb for much longer. This guy is going to be a griffon/gryffon/gryffin! :> I've already gotten the black and white lion's tail ready, now it's just time to finish this wild dude up.

This next one comes with a bit of a story time. Okay, so this guy is very rough. My friend and I purchased him together to refurbish (my friend wants to learn how to do this stuff, so I'm somewhat mentoring him even though I hardly know what I'm doing :D). He's a full suit, which comes with the feetpaws, handpaws, entire bodysuit and head. I have never worked on something like that, but I have another WIP ongoing that I want to make a fullbody of, and I should be able to make a pattern using this already made bodysuit. Well, things have not worked out as smoothly as I thought. :) Upon receiving the box, I realized huh, that pattern looks familiar. It turns out that this suit had copied another person's popular suit (they basically copy and pasted the markings, but like, it doesn't look good). So that was a bummer. There's no way that I'm going to steal someone else's design, so I am going to have to cut out and replace a lot of the fur in order to remove some of the unique designs that the original character has. This is do-able, and I do have a design in place that does look a lot different than the suit that this one was copied from. Next issue! The head is made out of styrofoam. So, wrapping styrofoam around your head is not only a good way to suffocate yourself, but it will release chemicals because of the heat that your face gives off and the sweat that your head will shead that will harm you! :) Luckily, I have an idea. I am going to be carefully cutting all of the fur off of the head and making a new head for this suit made out of the proper foam. I will be reusing some of the fur in order to match the body suit, but adding in some of own fur to create my own markings and whatnot. This project is going to be way more involved than I originally thought, but will definitely be a learning experience, considering that up until now I've only made heads. Here is a picture of the horribly deformed styrofoam head. The fur is very choppy and glued on, the eyebrows connect to the eyelashes (because the eyes are no joke like 6 inches wide) and muzzle is super crooked because the styrofoam is cracked! He definitely looks like he's had a particularly rough life, lmao. One of the funniest things about this project to me are the handpaws! They just put stickers on them that are shaped like paws, on top of the long pile fur. :"D You can legitimately put your finger underneath the stickers, it's not like they're smoothed down to the surface even. Those are getting cut off, as are the nails that they used, and I'm going to be replacing them with resin ones. This gives you a little insight as to what this project will have in store for me! I'll definitely show some before and after pictures of each part. I found out after I purchased this suit that the person that I bought it from had ordered it from China, where they notoriously remake poor quality suits that are copied from popular suits (I guess probably the more famous Twitter or Instagram fursuits or something. I don't have social media, so I didn't know immediately that this was a stolen design. I would not have gone for this suit if I knew that it was stolen, but now I am righting that wrong and remaking it my own).

Paws WIP!!! :D Okay, I don't want to sound full of myself or anything, but these are turning out way cuter than I thought they would, considering what they were like when they started and that I've never worked on paws before. I shaved down the palm and fingertip area of the hand and brushed out the knotted mess that was the long pile fur. The funky, floppy blue claws were chopped off and will be replaced with hard resin claws. I think the claws will be basic black to tie into the black fingertips. I want this character to have a very cute and squishable look, so I don't want extra exaggerated claws coming out of the hands. I think black claws will give me the look I'm going for, hopefully! :D Each pawpad is handstitched and stuffed with polyfil to get that squishable, plush look. They aren't perfect, as I did not want to rip them apart or anything, but I think they are much cuter than the original hairy, tangled sticker paws that they were before. I may paint freckles on the paw pads later, I am still undecided. I will do a side-by-side comparison of the finished refurb paw and the original paw once I'm done working on this one. They've come a long way.

Ignore the needle coming out of her face! I have been forgetting to post here. This is the almost completed refurb of the head. <3 Left is the new, right is the old. She does have teeth now and I'm working on sewing up the back of her head. Edited at January 9, 2021 10:42 AM by Nox
