Yay! Questions!! Phil's answers:
—
1) Closest Friend? In elementary school, Phil made a close friend named Scout Terrance that he hung out a lot with. Scout was a good kid who lived down the street and went to the same school. Then his dad got transferred and they moved before their junior year of high school. They still text, send postcards and stuff, but they haven’t seen each other in person in years.
2) Any Dates? None. Unless you count the little curly-haired girl he said he'd marry when he was in kindergarten.
3) Songs with Meaning? His dad plays the piano in his free time, but only knows a few songs. So every time Phil hears Lean on Me by Bill Withers, Cruella De Ville by Bill Lee or Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey he thinks of his dad’s unpracticed, mistake-filled version on their ancient key-sticking piano. Then there is a folk song, The Water Is Wide, which his Dad made him memorize for some reason. His mother likes to hum, not any particular song, but just to hum. So whenever he hears someone hum, he thinks of her.
4) If You Won the Lotto: He’d be shocked and speechless for a while. He’d have to sit down and pinch himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. Then he’d think of all the art supplies he could buy and start dreaming of adding an art studio to the house. He’d be rich enough so that he’d be able to dabble in paints and oils. He’d be anxious to try those out. Maybe get so clay and start on some pots. ALL OF THE BOOKS!! He’d be able to buy enough book shelves to keep them all on, maybe have a two story library in the back yard. He might as well buy a decent coffee machine and put it in there, too.
5) Worst Day:
“Worst day, that’s a hard one. Either the day when Scout moved or the time I spilled coffee on my laptop. The computer people at the electronic store couldn’t recover all of the documents off of the drive. IT SAVED MOM’S STUPID RECIPE FOR LEMON DROP CAKES BUT NOT MY STORY! I had worked months on it, MONTHS! All gone. Poof. It didn’t help that Mom tried to cheer me up by cooking those dumb cakes. Ended up eating the entire tray, though…”
6) The Swimming Question:
“What? I thought that everyone knew how to swim. Or at least the basics, like the doggy paddle. Huh, where do they go during the summer? Or do they go to the pool, but all docked up in floaties?”
7) Favorite Book Genre:
“YESSSS!!! Someone asked me a question that I actually care about!!! I live for medieval fantasy, but sci-fi is cool too! But mainly medieval fantasy, it’s the best genre ever. It’s dragons, it’s unicorns and it’s with really cool wizards. Plus, there are elves, songs and stuff, really cool mythology. The people who go into medieval fantasy are the most creative writers out there because they are just creating people, characters, plots and such, but they’re also making cultures, places, maybe even planets and…hmm, what if someone combined medieval fantasy and sci-fi together. That would be cool. I think C.S Lewis did that, but I’m not too sure…give me a moment to look through my library please, thank you…”
8) Greatest Fear and Why:
“Uh…I dunno. I don’t really think about that, uhhhhhh, the library burning down. Mom getting even more uptight and move us to a bomb shelter? The computer deleting all my hard work on my story? Maybe dying…I don’t like the idea of dying.”
9) Three People to Eliminant Ability Question:
“No! I wouldn’t use this! Who would use this? That’s awful, unless it’s, like, destroying some tyrant like Hitler or something. But who would use this? I am shocked that you even asked this question. Shame on you.”
10) Romance in Movies and Books and in General:
“Romance is okay. I don’t really like just romance books because I feel like so much more could be there than just two people. Plus it’s really over done. I don’t really like romance movies either, mainly because there is always some stupid triangle or some stupid reason why they can’t be together or something. In real life it’s fine. I mean, to quote Dad’s favorite folk song, The Water Is Wide: Oh, love is handsome, love is fine, just like a jewel when it’s first new. But love grows old and it waxes cold and fades away like a morning dew.”
11) Does Pineapple Belong with Pizza?
“You should go to jail if you say yes to this forbidden question.”
12) Which Job would You like to Pursue?
“I’d say something probably in the arts. Probably to be an author and I’d illustrate my own books. Maybe do some kid books or something beside my novel. That would be good.”
13) Best Day:
“Another hard one, probably the day that I spent as a dog. I mean Mom got mad that I skipped school, but it was worth it. I got to do dog stuff like chase squirrels and I understand how it feels to get seriously scratched by some kind person. It was great, like nothing I’ve felt as a human. Dog’s got it good except that there are so many smells. Someone was grilling steaks and I couldn’t stop smelling it! Then there was some stinky trash smells that I felt compelled to roll in. The only issues is that the world seemed very weird, like the colors.”
14) Romance Question #2
“Yeah, I’d date someone. I’m just not looking for anyone right now. It’s not something important in my life, really.”
