Okay! I meant to do that earlier, I must've forgotten, lol
Sorry about that!
Here it is now!

So, there are three (main) types of dead.
Basically, after someone passes on, there are three routes that they can take. Paradise/Heaven/whatever you want to call it and Damnation/Hell/whatever you want to call it are the ones that basically everyone knows.
If you've been generally moral and good in life, then you'll be allowed into paradise, and if you've been generally cruel, evil, or bad in life, then you'll be allowed into Damnation but not Paradise. These two never cross. It's one or other, and once you choose either of these paths, there's no going back. Those who make it to Paradise are called The Pure or Angels, those who are sentenced to Damnation are simply referred to as The Damned.
-
However, there is a middle ground (kind of). There's no specific name for it (mainly because I haven't thought of one yet, so if you have ideas, please share), but this space is basically where spirits walk the line between life and death. They're technically in the astral plane already, but they're still connected to Earth as well and are able to walk around it. They can't be seen or heard, but stronger spirits may be able to interact with the Earth in minor ways. These spirits are called The Grounded.
-
The Grounded are the only types of spirits that Sol can see and communicate with without actively seeking out or using his power, as they're still very close to humanity.
Here's the catch. Anyone can be a Grounded.
Before going to Paradise or Damnation, all spirits are Grounded first. They're given the option of staying as such or moving on. As you can imagine, most of The Pure end up going to Paradise while more of The Damned end up staying Grounded.
Most of The Pure that do end up staying only stay because they have family that they want to watch over or they have unfinished business on Earth. Of course, there are some exceptions. Some stay because they hate the idea of leaving Earth.
In Paradise, The Pure may still watch loved ones on occasion, but they're only really granted that ability when something life-changing happens, and The Damned don't get that opportunity at all.
Then there are a few Naturally Grounded, which are spirits that don't quite meet the requirements for Paradise or Damnation. They're completely morally gray.
-
Sol can only communicate with and see The Pure and The Damned when they sleep or actively use their powers.
-
There are also a few sub-categories of the dead.
The Lost are the most common. These are spirits, most commonly of younger people, especially children, who are most often very Pure, but are unable to seek out the light that guides them to Paradise. They get stuck as Grounded and wander around aimlessly looking for someone or something that can help, usually a parent of some sort.
Sol has made it his own personal mission to save as many of The Lost as they can, guiding them toward the light, which they learned rather quickly to access.
-
Then there's the Vengeful Spirits. These are spirits that usually died in a very brutal and unfair way. They're stuck, just like The Lost, as Grounded. The difference is, they're stuck until they either learn to let go and move on or until they get their revenge, which usually only happens after whoever or whatever killed them dies as well. The Vengeful are harder to help since they're usually angry and unapproachable.
-
Finally, there's The Broken. These are spirits who typically choose to stay as Grounded, usually with good intentions, but get consumed by whatever it is they're trying to do. Most often, this happens to Grounded who stay to watch over a family member, and either that family changes and takes a route that's so heartbreaking to the spirit that they fall apart or they get so obsessed with that family member or loved one that they physically can not stand to be unable to communicate with them any longer and fall apart.
These spirits are beyond saving. Once they fall apart, they become entities of darkness rather than sentient spirits and become rather dangerous.
