And in his current state, he doesn't even remember his name or that he has one, so a nickname he's not used to having? He's not realizing it's a nickname for him at all.

Well, Simon's just very good at reading people. Dude literally realized that eventually, should he keep fighting in the arena, he will die. He is not a fighter. So he switched tactics and became a right hand to The Boss instead. Which means he has to be good at reading people, social situations, and just literally everything that isn't physical fighting in order to have a chance.

I keep thinking about posting my short stories elsewhere too but I do not know if I should
