"Did ya get the snacks?" Kage rushed from the bedroom to the front room, face flushed from running around so much. Skylar stifled a laugh and James raised an eyebrow, holding up the backpack that had been at his feet for the past twenty minutes.
"For the third time, yes. Can we go now? We're already late."
Kage huffed, crossing his arms. "Well, do we have everything?"
Skylar exchanged an amused look with James. "I'm sure we do, love, and, even if we are forgetting something it's not that big of a deal."
"Yeah, says the one that's completely safe from Agni and Holland's wrath if something's missing." Kage groaned, glaring at James as he snorted.
"Hey, dumbass, if you're so worried I'll take the fire for you, yeah? Let's just get going, otherwise, Evelyn will be biting all our heads off."
Kage rolled his eyes. "Uh-uh," He protested, heading out the door, followed closely by the other two. "Not Sky's."
"Sky's the exception in literally any case," James stated, winking over his shoulder at the blue-haired, who blushed. "I don't think you should be complaining over his protection."
"That's not what I meant." Kage grumbled, pausing to let Skylar catch up and then grabbing his hand.
"I know," Sky replied, giving him a soft smile. "Don't worry."
The three began their walk to Evelyn's place after that, James and Kage bickering, and Skylar listening. Evelyn's was the ideal meeting place. Her adoptive parents were chill and their house was large. When the group was around, the basement was reserved for them. It had a large, flat-screen TV, a mini fridge and kitchen space, a pool table, a long couch, and a lot of spare, carpeted floor, allowing room for sleeping bags.
The perfect spot for monthly sleepovers and other hangouts.
The throuple found themselves on the doorstep of the large house half an hour after leaving their apartment and Kage stepped forward to ring the doorbell.
The woman who answered had a kind face. One filled with wrinkles from smiling all the time, and blue eyes that sparkled with fondness when they found the faces of the kids on her porch.
"Hello, dears, come on in! Eve and the others are already downstairs."
Kage and James both smiled at her and Skylar ducked his head bashfully. "Thanks, Mrs. Davie!" Kage said happily, walking inside and tugging Sky after him while James followed last, shouldering his bag.
They made their way downstairs and, upon reaching the bottom step, Kage finally released Skylar's hand and spread his arms dramatically. "The party's here!" He exclaimed, beaming as the five group members that had arrived before them looked up. Agnar and Holland glanced at each other and snickered.
"Little late, don't ya think? Party started a while ago." Agni stated, getting up from his spot on the couch and standing back, waiting for what they all knew was coming.
Evelyn squeezed and rushed forward, basically tackling Kage. "You guys made it! I was starting to worry!"
James flashed her a bright smile, slipping past his boyfriends to steal a spot on one of the barstools next to Holland. "Wouldn't miss it for the world."
Evelyn let Kage go and stepped forward to hug Skylar as well (though, much more gently) while Agnar took her spot, embracing Kage quickly. Skylar hugged Evelyn back quickly and then quietly made his way over to sit on the floor next to Ty.
The others started talking loudly, Justice butting into Kage and Agnar's conversation, but Sky and Ty spoke to each other in quiet voices, knowing well the others wouldn't interrupt them for a solid twenty minutes when they thought up a group game.
"Hey," Ty said, offering a soft smile to his friend. "How are you?"
"Good," Skylar replied. "Are you alright though?" He nodded toward a large bruise on Ty's cheek, but his friend just smiled sadly and shrugged.
"I'm fine, just my mom again."
Sky frowned. "I'm sorry."
"It's alright, I'm used to it. Oh, but I do have a gift for you!"
Surprise flooded Skylar's chest, enough to make the worry plaguing his mind waver for a moment. "Really? You didn't have to!"
Ty shrugged again. "I wanted to." He stated, digging through his bag before pulling out a very well-preserved card and handing it over, a smile playing on his lips as Sky reached over and gently took it from his fingertips, audibly gasping as he recognized what it was.
A "Black Lotus" Magic of the Gathering card. The rarest in the game.
"How… How did you get your hands on this?" Skylar breathed, torn between awe and overwhelming gratitude.
Ty just shrugged, sitting back on the palms of his hands. "A good collector has his ways. I just pulled some strings, traded some other cards. It wasn't that hard once I found someone actually willing to trade."
Sky looked up and beamed. Magic of the Gathering was a special game for the two of them. It's what allowed them, the two most shy people in a group of extroverts, to bond. It was why, even though they'd only really known each other a month and a half, they were already so close. This was more than just a good card to Skylar, it was a sign of the deepest friendship.
"You're the best, thank you so much!" He carefully stored the card before reaching out to embrace Ty quickly, something the other returned.
Ty chuckled. "You're very welcome. I thought you would enjoy it. You know, so you've always got something of me with you. Plus, it's functional."
Skylar hummed. "I should get you something then too," He stated. "Something that you can carry around to remind you of me too."
Ty shook his head, something appearing in his eyes that Sky couldn't quite place. "Don't worry about it. I know I've always got a part of you with me anyway." He smiled once more, tightening his grip around his friend's shoulders for a moment before pulling away.
Skylar hesitated, but nodded, about to speak again when Evelyn raised her voice to be heard.
"Okay, gang! What say we about a game of Truth or Dare?"
At that, Sky and Ty a half-amused, half-worried look before shrugging. Around then, the rest of the group was already scrambling to gather into a rather misshapen circle, calling out their enthusiastic agreements.
"Well, it probably can't be worse than Spin the Bottle." Ty suggested.
Skylar snorted. "We can hope."
"Yeah… Let's."
Even as he said this, chaos was starting up across the room as Justice sat down next to Sky and Evelyn placed herself on the couch next to her.
"Ooo, I can totally dare you to kiss me!" Agnar stated, leaning "seductively" over the edge of the counter to peer at Kage, who snorted.
"Ew, no! You're not my type, man!"
Agni pouted. "Oh, come on! You're dating James! James! And I'm not your type?"
"Hey!" James protested, huffing and lightly flicking his friend's forehead. "I'm objectively better than you!"
"If it helps, I think you're hot, Agni!" Holland intervened, grinning.
Agnar just rolled his eyes, rubbing his abused forehead. "You think everyone is hot, Holland."
"Do not!"
"Yeah, you totally do, dude." Kage stated, smirking.
"You literally complimented Evelyn's ass the second you got here." Agnar huffed, crossing his arms.
"Not fair! Her ass is stunning!"
"And you flirt with Ty constantly." Kage added.
"And Justice." James agreed.
Holland huffed. "Well, it's not my fault my friend group is made up of a bunch of hotties!" He protested, muttering under his breath as the others continued to poke at him.
As this went on, Skylar caught Justice and Evelyn exchanging a worrying look and braced himself. Ty apparently noticed too, because he scooted back, grinning encouragingly at Skylar as Evelyn stood and walked over, draping her arms over Sky's shoulders. "Oh, I have a great idea, Justice!" She said in an all too loud voice, redirecting the attention of those across the room. "What if we dare Sky to kiss us!"
Justice giggled, grabbing Skylar's hand as his face grew dark red at the sudden attention. "That sounds like a great idea, Eve, you're a genius!"
Immediately, both James and Kage were on their feet. "Uh-uh! Not on our watch!"
"Hands off you two, that one's ours!" James growled, stomping forward dramatically as Evelyn and Justice both fell into a fit of laughter.
"You two are so easy to tease!" Evelyn chuckled, wiping her eyes. "You go completely red the second anyone's near Sky! Have you forgotten that I'm a lesbian and our dear Justice is aro-ace?"
Justice snorted. "Oh my god, your faces!"
"Shut up, we've got reason to be protective!" James stated, walking over and lightly nudging Evelyn out of the way to wrap his arms around Skylar instead.
"Yeah!" Kage agreed, taking a seat next to Justice, not bothering to get her to move since James was already next to Sky.
Evelyn just grinned and reclaimed her spot on the couch. "Well, now that I've got everyone's attention, let's actually play, yeah?"
Ty smiled and moved forward again, joining the now circle of the group and Justice snickered, squeezing Skylar's hand quickly before letting go.
The others grumbled in agreement, and, finally, the game really began.
