I've watched both. I must say that the normal FMA ending is pretty confusing. (Do you mind spoilers? I won't tell the full ending, but I'll kinda explain what happens)
Spoilers are fine
At the end of the normal FMA Edward ends up in a different world together with his father (Father was already there) and together they're gonna try to find a way back to the normal world. It's a weird ending as they weren't planning on getting a second season for that, and it just doesn't fit with the story.
Hmm, I'll probably watch brotherhood. I like stories that go with the manga and I imagine it's probably better |

The story is indeed better and the ending fits the story. After watching Brotherhood you can always decide to still watch the normal FMA.
