The room spun in cirlces along with Calliope's thoughts. She wondered why they were rushing the engagement, considering that it was just as powerful as the two already being wed. If she'd paid attention in any of her classes it would have definitely been the governmental ones. Sure, the engagement could end where as the marriage could not, but the only way that the wedding wouldn't happen was if one of the two were to die. Now there was an idea. She could always run away, but she knew she couldn't do that to her parents. Even if she despised them right now, she wasn't brave enough to disappear. Reality met her once more as the music stopped and she stood still. Finally. Calliope was tired of dancing and had already began plotting escaping the rest of her classes for the day. As if she needed them anyways. She'd exceeded the knowledge of her current classes and spent the majority of the time just bored. Once dismissed, she left the room and tried to head outside, only being stopped as her arm had been grabbed by none other than her mother. "I think not. You have too much to attend to before making the journey." Calliope sighed in defeat, not bothering to fight with her mother. They'd be leaving sometime tomorrow and arriving in the early morning.

Calen sighed as his sister rode off, turning his horse around. He was tempted to chase after her, but he knew that would only make things worse. He went at a slow pace the rest of the way home, his anger dying almost immediately. He felt slightly guilty for his outburst, but he didn't think much about it as he untacked the horse before making his way back into the castle. He half expected his father to be waiting for him at the door, but luckily he wasn't. He quickened his pace to a brisk walk, making his way to one of his classes. It hadn't started yet, so his teacher didn't scold him for being late. The next two hours were a blur of mumbling and maps, and Calen forgot everything as soon as he left the classroom. His stomach growled as he remembered he had skipped lunch, so on his way back to his room he snatched an apple from the kitchen. His classes didn't start up again for about an hour, he went up to his room to grab his sword and daggers to train until then. |

The day continued droning on and on without anything being able to peak her interest. Calliope was only relieved whenever her classes ended and she was able to do as she pleased. Her first stop was to the kitchen, where she grabbed some fresh berries and a drink of water before heading outside. Seeing as she wasn't stopped this time, Calliope gathered her bow and arrows before heading to do some target practice. She knew the week to come wouldn't contain time for her to do things she truly liked. She wasn't even sure if her future life would since it wasn't exactly queen like.
As she let arrows fly for an hour, they hit the straw target with perfect accuracy. Of course, there were some further targets that troubled her, but overall she did well considering she didn't get to train as much as a man would. Even then she wouldn't have much time as the sky was turning deep shades of red and orange as the sun went down. She knew it would be time for supper soon and she dreaded the thought of having to sit with her parents in awkward silence. |

Calen trained for the next hour until the rest of his classes, hurrying to change afterwards for dinner. Dinner was nearly silent that night, the only sound the clanking of silverware. Justine didn't ever look at him, and his father kept giving him quick glances. His mother just looked disappointed and kept her eyes on her plate. After dinner Calen hurried up to his room, quickly dressing for bed. He spent the next few hours sitting by the fireplace, reading, going over battle tactics, or just watching the flames. It was after midnight before he finally retired to bed, but even then sleep didn't claim him until dawn. (Sorry for the boring post, just stalling until Calliope arrives lol) |

(it's fine lol I feel you~) Dinner was just as painfully silent as she'd expected. Her father ate in total silence, not looking her way while her mother still had that "I dare you" look. As soon as she was excused, Calliope fled to her room,changing before crawling into her bed. Buried beneath covers, sleep claimed her rather quick. She would be needing the sleep for sure, seeing how the next day would be a long one. ~ With light flooding into her room and a knock at her door, Calliope sat up with a groan, rubbing her eyes. "I'm up, I'm up," she said as she drug herself out of bed. She dressed in her riding clothes before clamoring down to the kitchen, grabbing an apple for breakfast. Servants bustled about, loading luggage into the carriage so that everything would be ready to leave.
A couple hours passed and the time had come. Calliope had readied her horse and bid her goodbye to her home for the week. She hoped that the journey wouldn't take terribly long, but she knew the ride would go on through the middle of the night. They had lived in opposite directions from the kingdom they had been in a few nights ago, so the time it would take to reach Calen would be nearly double.

Two days later, Calen again woke up to the same aggressive knocking. He would have liked to stay in bed, but he had already been awake for about an hour, so he forced himself out of bed. He took his running a bath, spending longer than her normally did in it. All of his classes had been canceled for the day, due to Calliope's arrival. She was supposed to arrive in a few hours, so Calen took his time dressing, mainly trying to avoid talking to his father. The day before had gone as normal, except that Justine still refused to talk to him. He hadn't really cared, since he preferred the silence anyway. After he was finished getting ready he wandered to the kitchen, stealing an apple and some cheese for breakfast, then sneaking back up to his room until Calliope arrived. |

The ride had been long and boring with the only thing keeping her sane being the fresh air and the wind in her hair. Calliope grew eager to reach the castle, especially as it grew into sight ever so gradually. Soom she was only minutes away and her arrival had been announced by a guard who had rode a head. Once given the go a head, she urged her horse into a run, taking a sigh of relief when she'd finally reached the castle. It was a beautiful place judging by the outside and a part of her couldn't wait to see what the rest of the area looked like.
Calliope climbed off of her horse, who snorted and pawed the ground a bit as if he was happy to finally get to rest some more. Her eyes scanned the people who were outside, looking for Calen as she greeted those who welcomed her presence. |

Calen got the news that Calliope was nearing the castle and was ushered down to two giant doors, the entrance to the castle. He waited there for a few minutes, the rest of his family at his side. He could feel his father’s piercing stare on him as Calliope rode up on her horse, dismounting with ease. She obviously knew how to ride. Calen walked down the steps to the castle and neared Calliope, dipping his head to her and offering her his hand. He tried to push down his nerves, not because of her arrival, but what her arrival would bring. Specifically how his parents were going to act. It was obvious they had no intent of this being a long engagement. His father’s gaze seared into him as he stood there, hoping he wasn't making a fool of himself. |

Calliope smiled as she saw Calen coming her way. She handed her horse off to someone else and dipped her head in return. "How good it is to see you again. You have the most beautiful home," she gushed, placing her hand into the one he'd offered. She could feel the jitters entering her body, growing nervous by the moment. Calliope knew a lot was expected of them during this week and it weighed on her mind like a ton of bricks. Calliope gave Calen a knowing look, especially as she saw how his fathers gaze bore into him. It would seem that she wasn't the only one who'd been given the 'hush and act right' talk. |

Calen tried to keep the annoyance off of his face as Calliope's cool hand slipped into his and he led her towards his family. He hated all of this acting. If he was going to be married, he at least wanted to be happy, not pretending for the rest of his life. He forced a small smile onto his face as he responded, "I'm sure this is no match for your kingdom." Calen stopped at the top of the stairs, his smile dropping as his mother started gushing over Calliope, "How wonderful it is to have you here, Princess Calliope. We are delighted you were able to stay with us." |
