Calliope wasn't sure why she'd decided to go after him. Its not as if they cared about each others feelings or could do anything about the situation they were in, so why?
"Damn you," she huffed softly, not missing how he had sped up. Two can play that game.. As her steps hurried across the floor behind Calen, going deeper than she'd been before inside the palace, she found herself amongst unfamiliar walls. What was even worse, she hadn't the slightest of ideas where he'd gone since he'd out walked her by a good distance at that point. She'd turned a corner or two, listening for footsteps though she heard none. The music from the ballroom was even distant at that point.
Calliope slowed to a comfortable pace, her chest rising and falling rapidly. Her long nails dug into the palms of her clinched fists as she resorted to looking around at all the paintings on the corridor walls. There were generations of that kingdoms kings and queens, all looking as though they couldn't be any happier about their significant other. Werent marriages supposed to be happy? Done out of love? Perhaps so, but surely none of those individuals had been pleased about their arrangements.
Calliope refused to believe that she was acting out of line. There wasn't any way that she could expect to be happy about this. Calen was handsome, sure, but he was stoic, temperamental, and basically her opposite. And now, he wouldn't even talk to her due to his anger. She sighed, slumping against the wall with her eyes closed. "Could this night get any worse?"

Calen walked and walked until he discovered a pair of open doors. It lead into what looked like a library, and he took in his surroundings as he walked in.
It was empty, not even the librarian was there. It looked as if they had forgotten to close it up. Calen say down on one of the plush couches, his head dropping into his hands in defeat.
His anger faded and left only despair, his mind scrambling to find a way out of this. But there was no way. His father couldn't even bother to ask what he thought? If he was going to ruin his life, he would have at least appreciated a choice in it. He contemplated reasoning with his mother, who seemed to be the only one that occasionally listened to him. She was always so happy and merry, something he never understood. Especially since she was married to someone like his father.
His father wasn't necessarily cruel, just inconsiderate. He only did things that would help him, completely disregarding everyone else's opinions. He had been a good father to Calen in his younger years, but slowly grew more firm as Calen grew older. He hadn't really minded, until he started doing things like this.
The ringing in his ears grew stronger, blocking out all sound. Calen just sat there, his mind going silent.

Calliope's eyes popped open as she heard distant but familiar voices. It would seem her parents had grown curious of their daughters where abouts. She could hear bits of their conversation echoing down the hall and it only angered her. "She should be more grateful! Calen will make a great match for her," her mother seethed, having always been the stern one in her life. It was always sit up straight, be polite, and don't you dare act like anything but a perfect lady. Her father wasn't as strict, teaching her "unladylike" things when they had the time. He'd wanted a son, but he settled with what he had. Her.
Calliope didn't wait around for them to find her, however. She picked up her skirt, hurrying in the opposite direction. Her heels clacked loudly, making her cringe. She stopped, leaning against a closed door to take them off so she'd be more quiet. Only, the door wasn't completely closed and she found herself falling.
As she looked up from the floor, stunned, she realized she had fell through the door way of the grand library's side entrance. Please be alone. Calliope couldn't stand the thought of someone having seen her display such clumsiness.

Calen's head shot up when he heard a door open and something fall. In seconds he had the dagger stashed in his boot in his hand, eyes scanning the space for anything that could have caused the sound.
Calen got up, looking around the room. The bookshelves obstructed most of his view as he tried to peer down the rows upon rows of books.
It could just be the librarian, but it was better to be safe than gutted in his opinion.
He searched up and down the bookshelves, looking for another entrance, since the noise hadn't come from the main doors.
Along the far wall, he noticed a small door, which was open. Another wall jutted out about 10 feet to the left of the door, and he moved behind it, waiting and listening.

Calliope relaxed as she saw that there wasn't anyone in view. She assumed she was alone since she hadn't heard anything. She had gotten up, her shoes now in hand as she shut the door. She didn't want anyone to let on that the room was occupied, especially if her parents were still near. Her foot stepped were nearly silent and she hadn't spoke a word. At least, not until she rounded the corner of a wall and nearly walked right into someone.
A sharp gasp left her lips, her eyes having spotted the dagger first and foremost. She jumped back, ready to sling her shoes before realizing who'd she finally had found. "Calen!" She squeaked out, her voice more of a hushed whisper than anything. Her chest rose and fell quickly, adrenaline pumping through her viens from being startled. Her hands still firmly gripped her heels as she was on edge, but she slowly lowered them as she looked up at Calen.

Calen heard the door close quietly, the barely audible scuff of bare feet on stone the only noise besides his breathing.
His grip on the dagger tightened as the thing grew nearer. He was ready to grab whoever it was when they walked around the corner, bumping into him. It all happened so fast he had no time to identify the face, but he wasn't able to grab the person as they ducked out of his reach.
Calliope. What were the odds. Calen sighed through his nose and slid the dagger back into his boot. Calliope looked startled to say the least, her eyes wide with fear, her shoes clutched in her hands. He didn't take the time to think about how she had ended up here.
Calen brushed past her. He didn't feel like having any more conversations.

Calliope huffed at the way he seemed annoyed to see her. She hadn't exactly been looking for him anymore, but she wasn't going to let him ignore her again. She went after him as he brushed past her, her hand catching his reflexively. "Calen please wait," she asked, her voice growing a bit louder than she'd wished. Then, from the other end of the library, she heard her fathers voice. "Callie was that you dear?" He called, making her curse under her breath. She could hear feet shuffling in their direction, prompting her to dip into a nook behind a book case, pulling Calen along with her if he'd let her. Her big blue eyes looked up at him, as if she pleaded with him to stay quiet. She knew he didn't want to see his parents just as bad as she didn't want to see her own. Calliope knew they were well out of sight, but one sound too loud would give them up and she'd be pulled back into the ballroom.

Calen groaned as she caught up to him. Why was she so hellbent on talking to him?
He was about to spit back a response when another voice was heard. Calliope's father. Calen was surprised when he heard her curse, and even more so when she pulled him into a little nook, barely enough room for both of them. She was surprisingly strong.
He was about to say something when she saw her pleading eyes. He promptly shut his mouth and waited.
Calliope's father called for her a few more times, walking right past the bookshelf which they were hiding behind. After a few more moments, he left.
Calen noticed their hands and quickly perked his away. "Don't touch me." He muttered, striding out from the small nook.

Calliope was able to relax once more when he'd given in to her silent plea. She let out a sigh she'd been holding in once her father left, but it was followed by a scoff when he'd jerked his hand away and left the nook she'd hidden them in. "Don't touch me," she mocked, shaking her head as she slipped out behind him. Her true personality was showing through her good girl facade. She wouldn't be nearly as proper as she was in a public setting. "It's not like I just wanted to hold your hand. I have no interest in that." She didn't want him to get the idea that she was into him or wanted the marriage. "I don't want this anymore than you do. We just have to try to do something." She explained, running a hand through her hair. Calliope wasn't sure what they could do. Maybe if they both opposed it so deeply their parents would give in? Likely not. There would have to be a more powerful pairing to be made to break theirs and well, that wasn't likely either.

Calen was surprised by her attitude, but didn't show it. He walked through the library, once again having no idea where he was going. Finally he stopped, turning to look at Calliope.
"Your parents must have done a damn good job at shielding you from the outside world." Calen said, his anger rising again. "There is nothing we can do. We can't change their minds. So we'd better start getting used to this." He said, running his hands through his hair.
He wanted to change this just as much as she did, but he knew there was no way. Even if he could convince his mother, there was no way his father would change his mind, not when this could do so much for the kingdom.
