As Ajax came back and spoke, Mei spun her head around quickly to look at him in shock. She still hadn’t really adapted to the fact that human’s had incredibly dull senses compared to what she had been blessed with her entire life and having not heard or smelt Ajax approach but then having him suddenly be there was a very strange surprise. She was still nervous around him but for the time being he didn’t seem like the worst human to be stuck in a house with.

She glanced back at the microwave, not really understanding what Ajax had just said but nodding nonetheless. The box made a strange beeping noise before Ajax stepped in front of her and opened it, putting whatever it was in those bags into two bowls and handing one to her. She could smell this but it was much fainter than what she was used to and almost instinctively she pressed her face into the bowl and took a sniff. Being popcorn it was light and at her breath some of it moved around a bit which caused her to startle, raising her head and staring at the bowl with some apprehension in her eyes.

Ajax walked away, motioning with his head for her to follow him so of course Mei did just that. She didn’t want to drop anything by sitting down but she couldn’t very well stand there for too long so it seemed like the only option. Though she tried to lower herself to the floor gently she ended up just plonking down next to Ajax with a startled look on her face. She glanced in the direction he had pointed in, tilting her head then slowly reaching out and grabbing the nearest thing to her which happened to be a soda. It was still a very awkward experience for her to be drinking like a human but she managed it. As she tried the drink, her eyes widened and she blinked in a rather startled manner. “Middle good.” She was unaware of how to explain that she didn’t like the soda but she didn’t really dislike it either. How did humans have elaborate conversations if they only had one opinion word, it seemed like a difficult way to live.

Mei glanced down at the bowl she was holding in her hands, not sure how to begin eating whatever this food was. What had the thing Ajax given her been called again? A furk? That sounded weird but maybe it was right. “How?” she questioned, pointing to the popcorn, “Mei use…furk?” No that was definitely the wrong word. “F…Fork?”

Suddenly something started playing on the tv and Mei completely forgot everything she had been wondering before. Setting the bowl down, she moved slowly closer to the screen, lifting one finger and tapping it gently before glancing at the back of it. How was this appearing on it? Magic? It reminded her of the microwave but less aggressive and more magical. The tv was entrancing but it was beginning to hurt her eyes as she was sitting so close to it. Moving back towards where she had been sitting before she mimicked how Ajax was sitting but continued to stare at the screen.

She barely understood what was going on, unable to understand a word the people on the screen were saying. However the visuals were interesting enough for her. There were a couple of scenes where a dog would appear and every single time she got incredibly excited, clapping her hands and pointing to the canine in question. There was a bright smile on her face throughout the entire movie, this was arguably the best thing that had happened the entire day. If this was what humans got to look at 24/7, she never wanted to go back to being Dog. She was more than willing to stay as Mei forever if she could look at this box forever as well.

Ajax spoke to her and she looked over at him, staring at him with a blank look in her eyes as she tried to understand the question. “Dog…Dog life hard. Mei life fun! Dog understand life. Mei not understand. Good and good, Mei doesn’t mind.” She grinned, turning back to look at the tv again as a look of rapture crept into her face.

“Tv good. Mei like good tv.”
