Rowan slashed her sword, felling a raider. She shouted, and the townsfolk, hope rekindled with a warrior leading them, fought back with vigor. Frost was not Rein, who had been trained like a war-stallion. Rein would rear and kick down the enemy, and Rowan could drop and her reins and knowthat the horse would avoid attacks with swift feet. Frost needed to be guided, but he could kick out at people who got too close. So, Rowan guided her gelding into a thick clump of enemies, and swung her sword wth skilled accuracy.

The younger horses spooked at the sudden appearance of Alvaro but the eldest stallion calmed them. Horses didn't speak through their mouths as humans did, they had their own mental language and body gestures as their language was very complex. So, I'm gonna roughly translate it. <u style="font-style: italic;">"Calm people, this is a faerie, means no harm. Allow him to speak, for he is older and wiser. Horses stay calm." The stallion that spoke was a dapple grey in color with wise brown eyes. He knew exactly what to say to get his herd to calm down. "I'm not sure what happened to you all. My name is Alvaro Webley and you are in my people's borders. We will protect you from whatever you run from but we need to leave this area and get to town. It is not safe here. I will lead you to the town." The stallion nodded his head and Alvaro took flight.
The town had stables but no horses, it had a huge field that was gated. The stables were for injured horses or big animals that they found and needed to stay for awhile. This was where Alvaro led the horses, Clem flying swiftly by his head.

One of the younger stallions, a red roan with a sharp attitude, went up to the older horse, roughly asking, "What about the woman who set us free? She is alone."

Rowan knew there had been no chance of winning. They were outnumbered, outskilled, and lacking the weapons. Rowan also knew she could have gotten away. She could have left. But then there would have been a complete slaughter of the village. At least with her staying, they could take out some of the raiders before being obliterated.
And now she was one of the last ones left.
The only others were those who had hidden, or those who had barricaded themselves into a room, but by the sounds of banging, doors would not hold up for much longer.
Rowan senses death in the air. Bodies littered the streets like carelessly thrown dolls, and though the townsfolk would have shunned her had they known her secret, Rowan felt some connection.
Both she and Frost were injured, but even when the woman told her horse he could run, Frost stubbornly insisted on staying with her.

Now, it might be too late.

By the time the red roan approached the older stallion, they had already made it to the stables. Alvaro was patching up a young mare's leg and was dusting off his hands on his pants when he heard the red roan speak. He listened before asking a question simply because he hadn't thought to ask it before. "Not to interrupt or anything, but where exactly did you come from? And why?" Alvaro seemed genuinely concerned about what was happening. Eyes wide with curiosity. "We come from the small town near here. Raiders attacked the village and are ruthlessly killing many. We couldn't help so it kind of just happened. A young woman, Rowan I believe, she released us and instructed my herd to come here. Does that answer your question?" Rowan didn't hear it at first, an attack? On a human village? He shouldn't get involved. But, death wasn't something he was okay with. A memory came rushing back to him, his old village, monsters everywhere. The fallen scattered everywhere, and him, just a young 89 year old, crying when no one came to him when he called. He had felt that pain, he wouldn't let others feel it if he could stop it. And he could. He was a faerie. They were human. Alvaro sent Clem off with a message to Kori and quickly flew to his home and grabbed a sword. Leaping out of him home, he forced himself to go as fast as possible to the village. Hoping desperately to make it back in time to save some people.

Even though Frost bled from many cuts, the gelding still kicked out at any raiders who got too close. Rowan slashes her sword, but there were too many. The thumping on the doors stopped, and cries of terror were silenced. Rowan knew she was the last one. There were too many raiders left, and there was no help. It was only her and Frost, and Rowan didn't plan on letting her faithful for die. So, she continued to fight, her feelings of self preservation keeping her from giving up.
(That's such a bad paragraph - excuse it)
It felt like ages, and the sun, once high in the sky, was starting to color the landscape red. Rowan was exhausted, and she could tell the raiders were enjoying themselves. They could overwhelm her easily, but as they only attacked a few at a time, she could hold them off.
But they were getting bored.

Alvaro was flying as as fast, and as hard as he could. His wings propelling him forwards and he could finally see the ravaged town. For a moment, it seemed like everyone was dead, but then he saw the fighting in the middle. The sunrise illuminated the person's face and he knew immediately who it was. Rowan. She looked fierce and was obviously a force to be reckoned with, but she was tiring. Alvaro could see that as clear as day. The attackers weren't expecting anyone to come and had become to relaxed and no longer on alert for any backup. Which gave Alvaro the perfect opportunity to do a nice dive and scoop up one of the attackers and throw the man into a fire. Alvaro quickly looked away as the others noticed the disappearance of their comrade and seemed at first shocked, then puzzled. The appearance of a man with wings gave Alvaro the extra time needed to pull his glowing sword out of its sheath and lunge. He was experienced in the ways of human fighting after all these years and none of their tricks worked on him. His gaze turned fierce and he seemed to be a plain whirlwind of pure destruction.

Rowan took the raiders distraction and lapse in attention as an importunity to strike with renewed vigor. Between the two of them the raiders were quickly taken care of. The warrior woman would credit Alvaro with doing most, if not all, of the damage.
As soon as Rowan was able, she dismounted Frost, and in her exhausted and injured state began to check him over. Her brain was going in one direction - help the horse who saved her.

After killing every single raider he saw, Alvaro flicked his sword and in seconds it was cleaned of all blood. Though some blood had dried so he would need to clean the sword later. Sheathing his sword, he reached out with his mind. Other than Rowan and her horse, he couldn't feel a single heartbeat. Not a single o- Wait. Alvaro pushes his limits and spun around. A small child was almost a full mile away and had fallen when he had been slashed by a sword. His heartbeat was so faint, Alvaro couldn't believe he was still alive. Without warning, he took off, his wings slightly wobbly due to overexertion. He landed beside the child and fell to his knees. It was a boy, he couldn't be any older than 10 human years. He was barely breathing and blood stains were across his chest as well as a slash through his shirt.
With expert hands, Alvaro allowed healing waves of energy to escape him. Forcing the wound to shallow though not completely close, he couldn't do that, but he could sure try. Slowly, the child's breathing became even and Alvy sighed in relief. Gently, Alvaro scoped the child up and flew back over to Rowan.

Rowan was leaning against Frost, or perhaps Frost was leaning on her. They were both injured and exhausted, both emotionally and physically. Frost's injuries were somewhat healed, at least so they weren't bleeding, and the plants around the two were dead. The horses proud head was curled around Rowan, who looked like she was going to fall over.

Álvaro gently set the child down before walking over to Rowan. His gaze hard and cold as ice, he was obviously angry at all the loss of life. "You are very brave Rowan. Standing against tons of humans like that. I can heal some of you and your horse's minor injuries if you'd like. After that, my people are coming over to see if they can save anyone else though I doubt they can. If you'd like, you can rest there for a while." Alvaro looked at Rowan with genuine worry in his eyes. The woman was obviously exhausted and he wanted to help her.
