Plot:

In the Malosi pack, the alpha male just passed away. It is believed that he died of grief due to the recent passing of his mate, a mere week before. He had tried to continue to lead the pack, but his sadness was too much for him. Their love was true, and the pack honored it by burying them together. However, in the face of such tragedy, nothing but peace lies within the pack.

The alphas left behind two sons, each single pups from a different litter. The oldest, a good 2 years older than his younger half brother, is believed to be the alphas' willed successor. However, a few in the pack have come to believe his half brother, who isn't even mothered by the alpha female, is more fit for the position. Yet, some say his half blood isn't meant for the position.

This, obviously, has caused tensions, even between the half brothers, who were so close until their father's death. But, for now, they are both temporarily alphas together. That is, until the pack votes on the full moon in a week.

On top of all this, many females are vying for the attention of the male they believe will become alpha in hopes of being his alpha female. Some truly care, some are simply in it for the power, and the brothers start feeling as if their heads are spinning.

Sides are starting to form, with some individuals refusing to join the spat, remaining neutral. Perhaps they hope it will be peacefully resolved, but it is clear that this will end in only one way, and that is death.

Whose death? Nobody is certain, but they can all feel it. The doom that hangs over their heads is palpable, with nobody failing to notice it, but a few choosing to ignore it. Will one of the brothers be the victim? Or one of the many voices adding to the conflict?

To add to the tension and nervousness, there was a prophecy made to the alphas when they had first been crowned:

In the wake of your death, there will be carnage...

RP Rules:

- As a basic, follow all Eve's rules
- No god modding. If your character is physically fighting with another character, please give them time to respond. You will not hit successfully every time, and you will not dodge successfully every time.
- No perfect characters! Your character can't be the strongest, fastest, smartest, and most beautiful
- No gary/ mary sues, weepy willows, spotlight susans, etc.
- Literacy is a must! At least 300 words per post, for every character. Minimal grammar/ spelling issues, as well
- Remember that I have the right to accept and deny form as I see fit
- I accept LGBTQA+, but this is NOT the RP for it, these are wolves
- This is not a 1x1 RP, so be sure to include everybody. I don't want to see any two players going back and forth with each other for half a page
- No supernatural powers, wolves cannot fling other wolves or take down a moose alone (heck, they struggle to do that in packs)
- This is a somewhat active RP, so, please, respond at least twice a week or give me a very good reason not to be. I understand that we're all busy. More posts are always appreciated, but not mandatory.
- You are allowed up to 4 characters
- Keep everything PG-13, and no extreme gore
- Keep in mind the basics of nature, please. Females will not be stronger than males, with a few exceptions. Males will not be more agile than females, with a few exceptions. Just remember that your wolf can be one or the other, NOT both. (an average mix of both is fine)
- In case you were wondering, there is no word or phrase hidden in the rules. Do NOT tell me that there needs to be, please

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pack Rules:
- Orders from the temporary alphas must be followed. second/third in commands get orders from the alpha, meaning that orders given by third/seconds must be followed, as well.
- No relations with anybody outside the pack
- If a loner is found inside the territory, ask them if they would like to join the pack. If they say yes, bring them to the alphas. If they say no, chase them off.
- If you have been placed in charge of a pup or pups for a period of time, understand that you are to give your own life before letting them injure themselves or go missing
- Juveniles and pack members have minimal authority, and are to follow any orders given by those above them
- Pups and Juveniles are to be brought up well and obey the adults for their safety and the safety of others
- If a wolf is discovered to have fathered the young of a loner or become pregnant by one, they will be run out of the pack as soon as their pups are weaned and treated as a visitor until they are. Their pups are to stay in the pack.
- Mating pairs must recieve permission from both alphas in order to have a litter of pups. Any pups found to exist without permission will result in the exile of their parents upon being weaned. These pups will remain with the pack.
Go Ahead and Post :)
Beginning: A few members will be on an early morning hunt right now, which will include at least one third, beta, or alpha and a group of members. The others, who didn't go on the hunt, are just waking up or socializing.
Camus
Male | 4 years | Temporary Alpha (younger) | M: Open
He yawned, eyes bright after having adjusted to the slowly rising sun. It had taken quite a while for his eyes to even pick out the trees from the background. The rustles in the brush had soon become common and insignificant to Camus. He had soon learned it was merely leaves brushing the floor, and not prey. The prey was hidden in their burrows, either asleep or groggily waking up, both night-creatures and day altogether hiding underground.
Camus shook his head from side to side, flicking a fly that had begun to buzz in his ear. So far, the only thing he had even seen of prey was a mouse, but this wasn’t a fantasy. Prey piles weren’t a thing, and taking down a moose first try in solo-mode was just a mere dream. Finding one mouse and being proud of it was useless. A single mouse couldn’t feed an entire pack, much less a grown wolf. His silver eyes danced the clearing. This was one of the more common places the hooved-creatures tended to roam, considering it was more enclosed, and entering involved stepping through piles of loud, crunching brambles.
The small hunting party he was with seemed to want to separate for the moment, for he couldn’t find them. Camus enjoyed these early morning hunting parties, though, not always successful, but refreshing. Being away from the pack and letting his brother temporarily assume command until he returned. Camus crouched lower under a bush, his eyes darting from side to side. His paws were slightly sore, having scouted this area for a while. After all, patience and failure is incredibly common in hunts, possibly more common than actually finding prey. He sniffed irritably. The sun brightened considerably since he had last looked at the orb, and one glance told him this, the light flaring.
Most days he didn’t seem to mind having to wake up early on these hunts, but when he was stuck with the haughtiest members of the pack, he was tempted to claw his tail off and chew it. On top of that, Camus was easily, how to describe this, easily distracted. His curiosity constantly got the better of him, but if he had someone tagging along with him, he wasn’t too horrible a hunter. Another yawn grasped him, though he didn't really mind. Today was slow, in the hunting prospect, bugs buzzing around, his limbs stiff from crouching for an absolute failure.
The thought of a hooved-creature or large prey waltzing into the clearing made his eyes return back to the clearing. The thought of a loner or some other trespasser trotting in gave him an amused smirk. Camus would probably just politely ask them to leave, and when they refused, honestly, he wouldn't care. The days were slow and boring. Other, outsider wolves was a spark in the midst of a desolute and bland cemetery. Cemetery. Camus winced. It was still relatively recent from when the alphas had died. When his father had died. Lords above, he didn't care for the alpha female nearly as much. She hadn't been his mother, after all. Still, the death of both alphas had sent a spiral of panic through the pack. Specifically, which brother would rule.
Camus didn't want to be the alpha. His brother was much more equipped, being the calm, flirtatious older brother he was. On top of that, Tamsu was actually descended from both alphas. Camus had only been descended from one, albeit the one with the alpha bloodlines, but still. If the female had had the alpha bloodlines, Camus wouldn't have even been considered to be a potential leader.
Arcadium | 7 | Male | Member | M: Camus
Dium stalked through the pines, his pads landing softly to quiet his movements. The shadows from the trees shifted across his pelt as he moved, a breeze rustling through the pines and through his earthen toned fur. Green eyes darted around and sensitive ears perked, listening for prey and the whereabouts of others on the hunt. They had initially split up into three groups, but he had wandered away from his. Now, he wondered where they were. He had left the group at the edge of the forest, where it meets a plain. The group had been searching for signs of bison, but he knew their chances of catching one of the large creatures was slim.
The best they would probably do was catch one of the young that had been born a little while ago. At the thought of the bisons' young, he became aware of the beautiful mid spring weather and felt at peace for a moment, closing his eyes briefly as he trotted along.
Dium came upon a clearing, and he moved so that he stood downwind from it, but caught the slightest whiff of a pack mate. Moving through the little undergrowth there was, he made his way towards Camus, who was also alone upon first glance. Dium approached him and settled next to him, his eyes turning to scan the clearing. This was a good spot, with prey often appearing here.
It was strange to think of Camus as the alpha, whether or not it was temporary. Only a short while ago, he was a fellow member, and now Dium wasn't allowed to order him around as he had so recently.
Just as he was about to speak up, Dium looked up to see a small group of white tail deer approaching warily, in search of grazing along the forest floor of pine needles. Taking quick account, there was three does and a young buck, one doe with offspring, taking her off the list of potential prey. Then the buck was stronger than the does, so that took him off the list. One of the remaining two does looked a good deal older than the others, meaning she would be slow and weak, making her the obvious target. With two wolves, she wouldn't be much of a problem, as the deer were only a foot or so taller than the wolves, and much more willowy.
Dium looked over to Camus, almost as if asking if they should hunt her. She wouldn't feed the whole pack, but she'd be something. Additionally, maybe one of the groups had caught something.
Verine
Female // 4 // Third // M: Camus and Arcadium (Indirectly), Open
A small, gentle breeze began to blow across landscape. Early morning light draped across the waking vegetation, creating odd patterns on the forest floor from the shadows of vibrant green leaves. Verine's dark body slinked between trees, fuzzy ears flicking and rotating, eyes shifting from place to place.
She had agreed to go on the hunt, not only because it was an assumed responsibly of her's, but she was one of the few who were already awake. She enjoyed hunts, as it gave her distraction from other pack matters, specifically the recent passing of the alphas, and the chaos that came with it. Though, she didn't mind the latter.
Ver paused for a moment in her tracks. Her dark blue gaze landed on the petals of a golden wild flower. She admired it's beauty for a mere moment, a small smile curling at the edges if her maw. With silent sigh, she continued on her path in search of evidence that a delectable meal might be near.
Verine weaved around the bristles of a pine tree, her banner flicking as she came to the edge of the forest line. A clearing opened in front of her. Her gaze scanned the surrounding line of the forest, closely eyeing each bush for signs of her fellow pack members. A smirk crept onto her features as she saw the familiar bodies of Arcadium and Camus. It was odd gazing upon Camus as her superior when less than a moon cycle ago, he was her equal. But nonetheless, despite his recent, or temporary, promotion she still regarded him as her friend.
Perhaps she should circle around to meet up with the two? Or maybe- wait. Something shifted in the breeze. It was faint, but noticeable. Her tongue slid over her lips before she turned, heading south of the clearing. She quickened her pace, focusing intensely on the barely apparent scent. A few minutes passed before she had once again came to the forest line, this time opening up to distant rolling hills of a prairie. Her tail flicked as she analyzed the scenery. "Ahah..." she sounded in a barely audible whisper. A bison calf. Where there's a calf, there's a herd. So where's the herd? Unless it was a straggler that had been left behind in migration? Yes, that must be it. As, that was the only scent in the air. The only trace of nearby adult bison was days old. This was an opportunity. If only she had more wolves with her. The chances of catching a calf alone were near zero. But with a few more hunters, the pursuit was possible.
Ver's head swiveled side to side, hoping and praying that someone was near. This would guarantee the entire pack a meal. Considering the recent morbid events, her pack mates needed this win.
Pathetic. Absolutely Pathetic.
A growing bitterness swelled up in Engima's already ice cold heart. She hated the new order of things in the pack. Since the Alpha's death, she felt confused and scared for her future. She couldn't care less about the other's emotions or feelings right now. The priority was her. Enigma was only looking out for herself until the "dust settled". It felt like everyone was still scurrying around trying to figure out how to act despite the fact that only one wolf died. It was the most pathetic thing Enigma had ever seen.
As she got up this morning to follow the alphas, a beta, a third, and a few pack members, Enigma tried to push her bitterness below the surface so others wouldn't catch on. She didn't like being told what to do by a wolf who was similar in age as her, much less two of them. The cool morning breeze blew through Enigma's white pelt. It seemingly released a little bit of stress, but not a lot. The real stress now was showing that she could hunt.
I should have stayed at the camp.
Enigma had been following a ways away behind the rest of the hunting party. She kept her nose to the air and ears perked up. She wasn't on the alert for big prey like the others. Feeding herself was her priority. All kills went to the "prey pile", but sometimes Enigma would sneak a rabbit or two for herself without getting caught. It worked usually, with the exception of a few times.
While the others wondered off in search of their meals, Enigma caught a whiff of the scent of rabbit. Perfect. It was just what she needed. She stopped in her tracks and crouched to the ground to listen. Verine wondered off in her direction and the other two males in their's. They barely noticed her presence in the first place. Without attracting attention Enigma scurried through a few trees to track the scent.
It was so close, but so was the rest of the pack. Should I wait? The temptation was too much for her. If she caught the rabbit she could eat it quickly and bury the carcass. If the pack saw her catch it she would have to carry it back to the camp with the smell of blood taunting her. Enigma stood tall and perked her ears up again. The others seemed a good distance away. Maybe I can do this really quick...
If Ezhno was given the opportunity to describe the pack with one word, she'd eagerly choose "unstable." Unstable, precarious, fickle, wavering, like an autumn leaf in frigid billows. If her stomach did not twist at the thought of volatility, she'd ground out every word in-between through clenched teeth, but she does not have the strength to be at war with her fear, so she can only just find ways to carry on.
It's not like this is the first time this has happened to her.
She reminds herself, over and over, in her mind with a voice that has gone hoarse with endless, insignificant comfort: Behave as normal.
Behave as if there is nothing wrong. Behave as if there is no despair, no dismay, no dread or discontent at the happenings smothering them all. Behave as if the pack's leaders, Ezhno's leaders, haven't withered away and kicked themselves into the afterlife, leaving the rest of them scrambling for some semblance of security. Behave as if she doesn't know what will become of those two brothers, those two brothers who tear her heart to shreds whenever she sees them for reasons she will hold close to her chest until they drown her. Behave as if she isn't choking in the foreboding sense of wrongness, wrongness, wrong wrong wrong something is wrong something will happen--
Behave as if the pack is not weak. If the pack is weak and Ezhno is one with it, then Ezhno is weak, and Ezhno does not have the right to be weak. If she is weak, then She will be angry, and when She is angry, She--
Ezhno forces her mind to think of something else.
She gives herself a moment, a second that makes her mind scream No, no, no because someone like her does not deserve even the briefest of relief. Her eyelids flutter closed, hiding away eyes of a hue she does not wish to acknowledge, and she focuses on the sounds of the forest, of the rhythmic tap, tap, tap of her pack-mates' paws on soft loam. Allows herself to delude her thoughts into believing the wind is gently carressing her fur in consolation. Tricks her mind into thinking that everything will be alright.
Her eyes greet the world again barely a flutter of a hawk's wing later, when she can breathe again.
She looks ahead, and lets the world come back into view.
Ezhno has been following after her fellow hunters for quite some time now, having "joined" them when they all set out to feed their stomachs for the single reason that she was already awake and needed something to do before she found herself snarling at her reflection once more. Teetering back several tree-lengths from the group, tailing after their hocks like some distant shadow, she wonders, distantly, if they even know she's there, blended with the shadows as she is and footsteps near-silent with every calculated step she brings forth. Unlikely, she concludes, for they'd have questioned her presence behind them long ago--or perhaps they simply don't care; Ezhno can't say she blames them.
Ezhno ambly passes through verdure, russet eyes piercing past bramble to fix on a Third's tail. As Ezhno observes the she-wolf's subtle muscles ripple beneath a cloak of swirling ecru and ebony, she wracks her memory for a name, a face, the patterns of flesh gifted with a mind, and it does not take long for her to find what she seeks: Verine, comes the canid's name, a set of six letters that are as honeyed as their owner's voice. Eloquent and charming is this one's front, easily crossing into convivial, but those sapphire, resplendent eyes, so brilliantly vivid they are beyond effulgent and can only be lambent, bury something Ezhno is unwilling to unravel, being the unquestioning, obedient creature that she is.
So obsessive is her following that whenever Verine stops, so does Ezhno; whenever Verine picks up the pace, so does Ezhno; when Verine pauses to gaze upon a flower, so does Ezhno; and so on and so forth until a fellow pack member comes into view.
White fur, stubborn eyes. Enigma. Ezhno commends the wolf's parents for naming her such; the title suits her perplexing self quite well. Ezhno does not know this one best because the whole blasted pack radiates secrets, but she has observed the younger she-wolf from afar once or twice--and saw some things she did not quite appreciate. Again, Ezhno is not one to question things, not one to inquire about the extremely obvious deviations of a developing soul, so she merely stares into those lost eyes for but a moment, nodding in a hasty, albeit slightly disapproving, greeting as politeness dictates, before setting back off after Verine.
(Enigma is nothing on the scale of things, just another faraway spirit that will be forgotten in the long-run--just like Ezhno, as planned from the very beginning.
Ezhno does not like to associate herself with wolves that will end up with her.)
As the other checks her surroundings, Ezhno makes her way around her superior, exiting the forest's dense bracken and entering a straggling bush in the open plains, doing her own observing from within shadow. From afar are the forms of Camus and Arcadium, and, judging from a look on Verine's face that Ezhno will not dare discern, the lattermost canid was not the one to spot them first. Her superior appears to contemplate going after the duo, eyes shining with, again, something Ezhno will not question, but it seems a certain scent catches her attention before she gets to finalize her decision.
Bison, says Ezhno's nose, and she makes her way after Verine when the other veers off in likely chase after her prize. When they come to a stop before distant prairies, Ezhno elects to slink out of the bush (and out of nowhere from the other's perspective) to come stand uncomfortably close next to her superior.
Ezhno merely tilts her head in place of a greeting when their respective eyes inevitably meet. Ezhno holds herself rigid, yet pliant, tense, yet open, and those tired, tired eyes of hers seem to say, Awaiting orders.
Enigma | 3 | Female | Member | Mentions: Verine (kinda directly), Ezhno (indirectly)
Enigma stood frozen in her tracks. Her ears continuously switched back and forth listening for any sounds that fell out of line with the natural balance of the crisp autumn morning. A sound of shuffling briefly passed by. Enigma cautiously turned her head in the direction of the sound only to be met with nothing but the crimson leaves swaying in the breeze. It's a lost cause. Forget it.
Enigma's stomach growled. She hadn't eaten since yesterday morning and that was only scraps. Giving one last concentrated listen to the forest, she reluctantly gave up. She knew the rabbit probably made it all the way to the other side of the forest by now or in some hole. Why did I even bother? Dragging her paws, Enigma made her way in the direction of others. A slight feeling of defeat washed over her. It's not that important. She caught Verine's scent and followed it knowing she probably already found some prey.
What made Enigma the most nervous, although she would never outwardly show it, was pretending to know how to hunt. So far, she's been able to fool everyone into thinking she could successfully hunt, but has never been fully responsible for leading any hunts. This was her secret. Never lead a hunt. Enigma spotted two she-wolves crouched and ready for action. She wasn't prepared for a smaller hunting party to take down the single bison calf she now had her sights on. This ought to be rich. Enigma slowly approached the two females. She recognized Verine, but it took two glances to recognize Ezhno. She didn't give any sort of respectful bow or nod to Verine like most wolves did. In fact, Enigma never gave it to any wolves in any position of authority in the pack. Granted, she never used disrespectful language, but actions speak louder than words and Enigma's practically screamed, I do not like you or respect you.
Like Ezhno, she could only wait for the command to advance and attack. At least that was what Enigma thought would happen.
