Maze | Female | Wolf Husky mix | Foxtrot | 33 | Mentions: Hoffen, All

Beta hadn't bothered to heal her; they'd just sent to her to the pens, bloody wound and all.
She hadn't dared to look at Pfeil since her eye...
My eye.
She couldn't stop thinking about her wound; about how she would never see out of her left eye again. The blindness, everything was dark on that side. She had always been so observant, almost nothing escaped her sights, but now? now she felt like she was blind all over.
Maze's right eye was clear but she didn't register anything she saw, it was all just there. Every sound, every word, it went in one ear and out of the other; same witht he smells. She was lost. Her senses weren't working.

Maze barely heard the words that Kämpe said; replacements she thought.
One thing that had caused some sort of feeling -surpise- was when Kämpe used the dogs given names and not their numbers. She'd almost never heard a cull speak her name or any other.
But the word that finnally made her brain click; the word that seemed to awaken her; turn on her instinkts once more was remove.
Maze was to be removed. She was going to be killed.

If she didn't know running would bring nothing she would have bolted. Run for her life. Run till the end of the world just to escape her fate.
But Maze knew better. Hoffen would kill her and her and she could do nothing. Running would just bring her an earlier demise.

She finally looked to Pfeil. Her friend, her brother, the strong protector who had kept her safe, who had lost his two front limbs protecting her from a rebelious human.
He looked as broken as she felt; his stub of a tail was low, his head hanging and his cropped ears pulled back; his expression was that of regret, pain and sadness.
She tried to catch his eyes but he never looked up.
If dogs could cry she'd be crying then.

When Hoffen ordered her to follow him she did as she was told; her head low and submissive as she followed the large cull out of the pen.

Aadya | Female | Pembroke Corgi | #62 | Mentions: Kämpe, Hoffen, Alta, Rache, All

The small dog's disproportionately large ears seemed to move with the one-sided conversation's ebbs and flows. It was odd how they were almost always moving, responding to the slightest sounds in the slightest ways.

She stood tall, well, as tall as she could. Her muscles were visibly relaxed, and her tongue hung loosely out of her mouth in a comfortable pant. Cream-colored brows furrowed at the large black dog, Hoffen and the dog he called. What her name? Kämpe had called her Maze, but Hoffen had referred to her as Thirty-Four. Then it hit her, ID numbers, of course. Her own was printed on her collar's nameplate, right after her name.

But why had she-and that other male with the cropped ears-looked so upset? Remove?

After the Chief Cull had adjourned the meeting, she trotted over to her, moving quickly to keep up. With an impassive flick of her ears, she asked the Cull a question. "Kämpe, what did you mean asking Hoffen to remove her? As in relieve her from duty or switch her to different regiment?" There was zero hostility behind Aadya's question, simply calm curiousity

Commander Hoffen of Foxtrot | #34 | Male | Schnauzer/Wolf cross | M: Maze

They had trotted to the outskirts of the city in silence. He knew Beta would prefer if he made a big schene, but his commander said he could proceed however he wished on the matter. He was sure the citizens of the city didn't need any more fear among them. Those outdoors had rushed inside upon sight of him, oblivious to the fact that he was very clearly not on patrol, nor was it curfew.

He motioned for the female to follow him down an alley, coming out on the other side to a wide patch of dirt. The alley was the only exit, or so it seemed. With rows of houses on one side, and the border wall on the other, it seemed like the perfect death trap, Maze couldn't outrun the Cull here.

But that was not what Hoffen had in mind. There was a heavy silence, Hoffen licking his lips and displaying his sharp fangs absentmindedly before he spoke. His eyes never once were trained on Maze, instead on the dusty ground, or the border wall, seemingly far away. He asked the female a question, his tone low and even.

"Do you have a metal implant?"

Maze | Female | Wolf Husky mix | Foxtrot | 33 | Mentions: Hoffen

With every step her the dread in her heart grew; she had no way of escaping, Hoffen was a cull. He was too fast and strong.
Her eyes -eye- was darting around, looking for a small space she could squeeze into and hide where Hoffen couldn't follow, but there was never such a place.

When the cull finally led her through and ally and to a dead end all of her hope was lost; there was no escape.
Maze closed her eyes as she struggled to keep her survival instinks it check; all her body wanted was to run, to escape somehow, it took all her concentration to keep herself still.
She would stare death in the face; she wouldn't run from it.
If this was her fate then she would accept it as it was, not try to change it.

I'm not scared.

She kept telling herself she wasn't scared, and she may have been able to fool someone else, but not herself.
She was scared.

It took a couple seconds for Hoffens words to register.
Implant? What did he mean by that? did she have an implant?

Then she remembered when Pfeil returned after recieving his new legs; he'd made a joke of never being to hide again because of the implants in his new legs; not that he'd been any good at hiding in the first place.

"No... I was never wounded enough" she answered, a slught spark of hope sprung through her heart.
What would it matter if she had implants if she was going to die? unless she wasn't going to be removed.
But Hoffen was a cull, Beta's puppet; he was probably just asking to figure out if he could bring some spare parts back or something... probably.

Commander Hoffen of Foxtrot | #34 | Male | Schnauzer/Wolf cross | M: Maze

Hoffen sighed at her response, not in relief, but mild annoyance. No implant. He sat on the ground in front of the alley entrance, and without any precision whatsoever, sliced down the middle of his face with his hind-claw, ripping his stitches open and sending a trail of crimson blood sliding his face. He stood up, shaking out his freshly-shaved and sending blood droplets flying.

"Lucky for you. This thing'll never heal anyway. That stupid tail of hers, that was it, right?"

With a huff, he pointed toward a grate covering a sewage tunnel using his muzzle. "Go straight, make a left. You should be going upwards, tunnels that go upwards lead out. I can open it for you if it is stuck," he padded toward it, giving it a gentle push with his forepaw. It was stuck, wonderful. Hoffen was glad Beta had capped his remaining dog teeth in titanium to prevent any more from breaking.

With a few yanks and wrenches, the grated cover had come loose, rolling a few feet before falling over. He looked into the tunnel a moment, reminded of the ones he had been trained to navigate long ago, in a past life. His nose twitched at the dank smell.

"I'd lose the name, Maze is bleeding out in a ditch somewhere." His brown eyes flashed with something as he pulled his head out of the tunnel's entrance. Was it regret? Hoffen didn't even know. His old life was lost many years ago. That didn't mean he couldn't commit small rebellions. He spoke to the female a second time, awaiting her response.

"Good...luck?"

Kämpe | Female | Doberman, GSD, Australian Shepard Cross | Cheif Cull | 24 | M: Aayda

Kämpe had been in the process of marching by, imperial and poised, until she heard small pawsteps trotting hastily to keep up. She supressed a flick of her ear. Why had Beta chosen her - the Chief Cull, with much more pressing matters to attend to - in charge of a large rodent with dog - like features?

It was not her place to tell. Her programming forbid her to question the decisions of Beta. She continued forward, paying the small dog little mind, though keenly aware of her presence; the Cull could follow multiple thought tracks at once, this so much was true: She had learned the art of outwards stoicism, yet complete awareness of her surroundings, while ruminating over a thought or order. Although it seemed she had not paid any mind to the corgi, this was not so. Kämpe was indeed keenly aware, anticipating the dog's impending question.

That was when the dog made her first mistake. Addressing Kämpe by her name. As Hoffen had made the similar mistake, the Cull had become quite defensive. She did not wish to relive her past, nor did she care to undergo any sort of 'emotion' again. She halted, snapping her head towards the dog. She flashed chrome fangs, snarling in her throat.

"You have crossed a line, Sixty - Two. You are to address me as "Chief" or "Commander". Nothing else is befitting of my rank. I expect you will pay due respect to your superiors in the future. This is a warning. The next occurance of such a mistake, and I will not be so kind."

Kämpe then narrowed her eyes, regarding her question carefully. The dog was ignorant, that so much was clear. Naive. Pampered. She needed to understand the gravity of their situation; a rebellion was brewing, and there was no tolerance for mistakes.

"Thirty - Three is a weakness, both to her regiment, and the stronger dogs of her fellow regiment. She is not fit for survival, and hinders Beta. Hoffen will most likely dispose of her body behind the training facility walls, so you do not need to worry in regards to proper funeral procedures." Kämpe snapped, blunt and cold. This dog needed to harden up, before she got herself hurt.

Alta | Female | Doberman German Shepherd cross | Charlie/Bravo | 63 | Mentions: Bravo, Foxtrot, Kämpe, Hoffen, Rache

Alta glared down the bridge of her muzzle at the figures of the dogs, each displaying varying degrees of emotion. The tall dog nearly scoffed. She had understood that these mutts were unruly, but this was nothing short of chaos. Perhaps proper introductions were in order. She could follow through with formal procedures and introduce herself, or stand back, aloof, imposing, threatening. She decided that her training would require her to follow through with routine introductions.

Completely apathetic, Alta stepped forward. "I am Sixty - Three of Regiment Charlie, First Grade Soldier, trained personally under Cull Eighty - One, Offspring of Fifteen and Seventy - Four." She stated, voice sharp, cold, and clear. She stood regally, imposing, almost as if daring them to defy her.

Orden | Female | Half Blood, Border Collie Cross | Beta (Bravo) | 22 | M: Maze, Kämpe, Pfiel, All

Orden was fighting her every urge to react. Nightmare - like flashes of her haunting past replaying in her head on a loop. She willed herself to remain calm as Maze was whisked away. In this moment, she hated Kämpe. She hated Beta. For what they had done, and for what they were doing. She had never been close to Maze, but in this moment, it was as if she could feel the dog's terrified heartbeat vibrating in her bones. She remembered this scene, all to well. She had spoken out, she had rebelled, and it had killed her closest friend. She remembered how each pawstep away felt like her heart being torn out slowly by the claws of a Cull.

She flicked her gaze to Pfiel, who seemed to be greatly struggling. She understood. Understood how it felt. Orden disliked being near any other dog; but she felt his pain in her own heart, as if it was her own. In truth, it was. So the female quietly stepped towards him, slightly against him. Nothing but a mere comforting presence.

Aadya | Female | Pembroke Corgi | #62 | Mentions: Kämpe, Hoffen, Maze (briefly)

She flattened her long ears in surprise when the Cull snapped at her, eyes snapping for a second before she regained her composure. Aadya was mildly offended by Kämpe, but wouldn't dare show it. Not to a dog with the Commander's temper.

"My apologies, Commander. I am on a first-name basis with the dogs of Regiment Charlie, and I overstepped my bounds assuming things would be the same. I apologize for that."

Her stomach turned at Kämpe's response to her question. She had known that Beta removed dogs that didn't do their duty, but hadn't thought it would be so gruesome. But there had to be a reason for it, there always was. Beta was kind to her. That last dog must have been aggressive with Beta's humans. Yeah, that was it. Unacceptable. She nodded sharply, flicking her ears in response to the Cull.

"I see."

It would be nice of her to change her tone. No point in being snappy. I can hear her plenty well.

Zadolt | Male | Australian/German Shepherd mix | Foxtrot | 28 | Mentions: all

Zadolt gave a barely noticeable nod, his tail stiff and low. Maze was going to be removed- a nicer way of saying killed. It sickened him, but he couldn't do anything about it. By the end of her briefing he had only registered two facts- Maze was going to be killed, and a dog from the Charlie regiment would be joining them, Rache if he recalled correctly.

He went up to Rache, still wearing the stiff mask of neutrality on his muzzle. “Since you’re going to be part of our regiment and probably don’t like small talk, I’ll be blunt. We are considered the ‘softer’ regiment, the weaker one, so prepared for others to underestimate us. Our commander is Hoffen, and I am called No. 28.” With that done, we went and stood of to the side, giving a nod to Alta, or ‘63’ as she called herself, when she was done. He had never heard someone refer to themselves as a number; it showed the extent of Beta’s training.

After she was done, he let his thoughts wander. He didn’t even know what had caused Kämpe to attack Hoffen, nor what happened. He only knew that Hoffen got a new transmitter; he suspected it was the cause of their fighting. He was surprised that he wasn’t given a metal leg, but it must have looked worse then it was. The only thing to show he had been injured was a new, small scar, running over the socket.
