So I'm having issues... I have the hardest time telling someone no, even when it comes to making art. I'm currently working on commissions again, and I've been heavily lowballed by players consistently, even when I give a MUCH lower than usual price. (My art usually goes for multiple apples and just recently I've started taking mush for payment, and I've been getting less than 1k mush inquiries for commissions-) and the worst part is this art is still expected from me even when I've expressed a distaste in the payment I'm going to receive. Even if I blatantly say "look, these aren't prices I'm comfortable with." I guess it's just crushing. I don't want to sound like a complete jerk but holy crap, art is hard! And I work so hard on what few pieces I do, and if I'm gonna make some art for someone, I want to be paid what I ask for. but I can't. Say. No. Like I'm about to start fucking blocking these people, you know? It makes me feel like my work isn't worth what I think it is.
I don't know, I probably sound like an ass but like- if I'm doing something for someone, I don't expect less than I ask for. And I wish I had the confidence to say what I want to: "if you can't pay what I ask, then I cannot draw what you want." Have any other artists had this problem before? ;-; Edited at May 12, 2021 05:11 PM by Sjuk.

Drop their @s I'll say no for you :< [My dudes, for legal purposes I am joking] But- Yeah this is a pretty typical thing ;; Some people just,, don't exactly understand the value of art nor respect artists. It's fuckin tough man- but with ignorant twats you just gotta learn to stand your ground, as hard as it is ;;
Either they'll respect and come back when they have the correct currency, or they'll be an asshole about it, and in the second case you don't wanna draw for 'em anyway-
Your art is worth more than the opinions of cheap strangers, I promise you.

I never know what to put as a price XD So I just throw a random number I feel happy with...but yeah, I think I might be making it too low just cause I like it when people like my art and only recently I decided to focus more on my idea and not worry too much about pleasing everyone. My art is kinda slow going cart at the moment-gotta lot to do IRL. But to me it helped opening "Free art thread" or throwing giveaways and when asked about prices in my, now closed, shop I would just let them know that they can get a chance for my art in my Free art tread or in a giveaway. I am guilty of lowballing too ;-; actually was, year and more ago when I just started and didn't know how hard art really is. I am sorry for that ;-; I was stupid and though art is easier then anything on WP and easiest way to get mush...which is so far from actual truth since exploring won't ask for edits, or give you weird looking refference or just written description, you don't have to think about it, or redo a line dozen of times or look up tutorials. @Kobel gave perfect answer here <3

You probably know for Autum Willows and their master pieces. They don't sell art and I think I know why-no one here is rich enough to pay what they deserve, 40+ apples in my opinion. So when they wanna art they do it for free and have these little messages in Sales Chat, players PM their ideas, they pick what they want and draw it for free. I got lucky once with that <3 really special. Life ain't easy nor fair X) They are not the only artist whose work deserves 10+ apples, but I mentioned them cause of their unique way of doing it. Sweet Tea is amazing too, but I didn't figure out how to get that art just yet.
