I think it's also worth answering why I worldbuild in the first place, it's just for fun. Worldbuilding is a hobby of mine, so before you go and comment 'this has too much going on to be one story' or something similar, keep this in mind.

Sure, you can comment on things being similar to things within popular culture/TV shows/books etc, but keep in mind this is a separate and individual thing.

Hiya! Welcome to my newest thread. I did a poll a few months back asking if you guys wanted to follow along with the building of my second world, about 24 of you voted yes!

So, welcome to the thread! This will follow just about everything from geography, to singular characters, to races and societies.

Though I've been collecting ideas for the world, I'm marking the official start date as today.

So, what have I got right now?

This world will likely be confined to just one planet for now, currently under the name Cyanthane, though I may also refer to it as Vers2.

Cyanthane is a planet not too unlike the Earth we live on, with a similar atmosphere but a far smaller size. It's core is far denser than ours however. It has two moons and on average, a cooler climate.

Containing only one city, the majority of Cyanthane's population is nomadic, with entire towns constantly on the move. The driving force of this is due to the large beasts that roam the surface of the planet. Though Cyanthane's dominant species appear much like humanity, everyone is born with an animal companion known as a familial [working name, set to change].

Familial's can be a whole range of different species, canine-like creatures are typically most common, and your familial is genetic to a degree, you will usually end up with something similar to your genetic parents.

The planet's main/dominant inhabitants are known as Cyanthians, or Cythans for short. Cythans have one royal family as they are not quite as numerous as humans. The royal family is not strictly limited to genetic relatives, and there are multiple ways to 'join' none of which are very easy. They appear almost identical to humans!
Now, to note, this is not a world in Earth's solar system or universe, it's something entirely separate so I can get a nice fresh start. :>
The comparisons to Earth are just to make it nice and easy to understand.

Key characters

So far this world has eight key characters and their familials-! None of these characters have names or details yet but- Soon, soon.

Firstly, we have a high-ranking, possibly THE highest ranking healer in Cyanthane's city. She's a lil more powerful than most expected and is above even the royal family. She does not rule the city, but no one can tell her what to do either. Her familial will be feline based, but due to some fun little dynamics for doctors/healers, her familial will be very unique looking-! But I'll get onto those later.

Secondly we'll have an arrogant prince because who doesn't like those lmao. I'll find some way to make him tolerable so you'll *almost* want to forgive his entitled behaviour. Naturally he'll have a dragon familial as mentioned above.

We'll also have a Cythan with a beast familial! Yes, those giant things that force everyone to stay on the move. She'll likely be somewhat of an outcast who is mad at society for a whole host of reasons. I'm sure she'll be redeemable in some way.

On the subject of beast familials, there'll be a nomad with one as well. They have NO idea that their small, white blob of a familial will one day become a huge, terrifying beast with pitch scales.

Then onto some of the only named pair so far! Within the same nomadic group as the character above, 'Dogbite' is a young man who hates his familial, Atavi, with a burning passion. They've never got along and will be used to explore the darker sides of the familial connection.

Next we have a pair of Cynthans who work to protect the city from any beasts that stray too close. A rugged, life-hardened Cythan with a griffin familiar who has a soft spot for their high-on-life apprentice with a smaller flying familial [undecided on species, it might be a Cythane-specific one]

And lastly, an entirely neutral figure who appears as the city's law figure. They must lead an entirely 'fair' life and has another Cynthane-specific familial.. Knowing everyone has a secret guilty pleasure of forbidden romance [this is a joke, don't take me seriously] they'll likely maintain some kind of relationship with the aforementioned prince.


So-! That's the overview right now. What pretty images to I have to show you right now?

Well, here's the rough biome map.

And uh,, here's the concept for one of the various beasts that roam the planet.

For size comparison, a 6'5 human is around the height from the bottom of their jaw to the top of their snout.

Hooray! I've been waiting for this for a while (ever since the poll) and am quite pleased. You have a wonderfully built structure for Cyanthane and its inhabitants. Although I'm not sure if those are technichally oceans, I can't wait to see how the map develops

I mean, they're large bodies of water we're gonna call them oceans. That being said, I don't think I actually know the solid definition of an ocean!

Ahhh ET this is so so cool and I can't wait to see how you'll develop this new world! <333 Are you going to have a form of connecting this verse with your previous one (if you do, through the crossroads we talked about before I'd imagine)? Since Cyanthane is separate from the Solar System (which is super super exciting x3) will it have like a unique orbit or like a different star it orbits? :0 Highkey sorry since I think you mentioned not developing much outside your planet for the time being, but I'm just really curious ;w;

Are there any limit in terms of species for familials? Are they purely animals only or can cythans have plant familials? Since power levels will be relatively tame in comparison to your old verse, will there be certain abilities or attributes that you definitely won't have? Related, but does Cyanthane have any kind of deity or higher being around or is it just cythans? :O

I'm excited too! It feels like somewhat of a daunting task considering just how huge World1 is but- I know I'll get there in a few years-! :0

The Crossroads will be present somewhere, yes-! Likely through one of Cyanthane's cave systems- which there are many of under the planet's surface. I'll be leaving the Crossroads on Cyanthane alone for a while though, and likely won't integrate it properly until the planet itself has a stronger standing. The easiest way to compare World1, and Vers2 which has Cyanthane in it, is that they're entirely different universes, almost like an alternate universe. The Crossroads would be the only way for someone to go between the two :0

Cyanthane has two stars close to each other! So the planet's day/night cycle will be a little different from Earth. Depending of the time of year, nights can be darker or lighter as it depends on the position of the other sun. Cyanthane is relatively far away from both stars and has a much cooler climate.

As of now I'm not really putting a limit on species, there's going to be some weird and wonderful familials for everyone! They're loosely defined as animals, and I'll explore some exceptions later on- But as for a plant familial I think that'd be quite unlikely-! All familials are at the same level of sentience and speech as Cynthans are, a sentient plant might be a lil strange. Plus, movement is incredibly important to most Cynthans.

Any kind of recognisable 'power' whether that be creating flames, teleportation or anything like that are limited to a very small number of people. They are possible but the only way to gain these types of powers is to be around people around their time of death. As there is no afterlife or reincarnation, a person's 'lifeforce' simply dissipates back into the atmosphere and surroundings upon death. This 'lifeforce' [working name again, the Cynthans will have their own word for it] can also go into other people and if you amass enough of it you can gain 'powers'. This is why healers and doctors are so powerful!
It's a very undeveloped system within the world, so I'm still working on some things to discourage people from going on killing sprees to become OP lol. It'll probably be some kinda societal pressure and some other fun things, but we'll see-!

But no, there are no higher beings or deities planned. Whilst Cynthans may have their own religions and beliefs systems, these will mostly be linked to the planet and nature. There are no physical entities of myth/legend, so no equivalent to the celestials or gods in World1.
Of course, there are creatures and things stronger than Cynthans! But these are purely of a natural disposition.

Oh wow! It's been like- 9 days-! But I'm here with the first character updates! So-! Let's put some faces to names shall we?

As mentioned in the above text, I touched on the characters Dogbite and Atavi. Whilst Atavi has been a character of mine since early 2017, she finally has her Cythan companion, Dogbite.
Part of one of the nomadic groups, Dogbite is what's known as a Fallback, someone who stays to the back of a moving town to make sure no one stays behind. Fallbackers lead very athletic lives and must be in peak physical condition and there's usually several of them per town, most commonly they have an equally athletic familial.
As you can see, he mirrors a human, looking nearly identical to one-! His hair and eye colour is natural, and mirrors Atavi's.

As mentioned before, Dogbite and his familial get along poorly and have done since birth. Such an occurrence is very uncommon but not entirely unheard of. They spend time away from one another whenever possible, but fights between them are still frequent.

Another thing to note is the gender of familial-companion pairings. There's no specific gender difference as seen in other familiar concepts. A familial and their companion can be of any gender-! Sometimes it's male/female, sometimes it's female/female, sometimes nonbinary/male, it can be literally anything-! Atavi and Dogbite are an example of a male/female companionship. In Cyanthanian society, gender bears little weight, and many people experience some kind of gender fluidity, it's simply down to the culture and experience of the planet's peoples.


Now-! Let's meet our healer duo, Osei and Kerbasi.
As you can see, they both have very dark, nearly pitch eyes, this reflects Osei's power due to her role as a healer. Whilst she looks similar to the normal Cythan, with the exception of elongated ears, her familial Kerbasi shows many of the differences. When they were younger, Kerbasi would have looked more closely to a normal lynx, though they have gained these growths over time.

There is no afterlife, no heaven, no hell, no reincarnation on Cyanthane, all there is the cycling of one's vitality. When someone passes away, said vitality can also reflect onto those nearby. Healers such as Osei and Kerbasi have been around their fair share of people passing on, which leads to a higher percentage of this vitality within them, which presents itself in dark eyes and strange, often ethereal growths and changes. Osei is blessed with a longer lifespan due to this, and her position as a healer places her above most laws.

But! I do have something to show you! That being the basic anatomy of the standard 'royal' dragon and also a little sneakpeak at our unnamed prince, one of the eight key characters.

So here he is with his familial! Neither of them have names yet. He's a design I bought from Darkanra, so design-wise he isn't mine, but the dragon is! :D

I typically struggle to write entitled characters, so he's gonna be a little bit of struggle, but hey, I'll make it work.

As you can see, it's a little bit of a mix of various dragons from culture on Earth. I didn't want it to line up too closely to a specific culture or subspecies of dragon. This is pretty sketchy! So the overall design and anatomy may change, I may also add a few more sets of wings and something more distinct about the head but we'll see! I wanted something less bulky and a little finer than the large beasts the roam the planet's surface.
