they will start violently sobbing if any animal dies like, they might have worked on a farm their whole life but they still hate seeing animals die

I like option 2 more, considering it gives the riders more chance to know about each other, form relationships/affiliations, and the sense of urgency of them needing to grab whatever gear. During the attack, I can see that some have to sneak past the attackers since they're defenseless at the moment, adds that tension, you know. |

I picked option one because they don't know each other and they are forced to work together. That is if they want to survive. |

I also like the thought of them waking up in a burning building because it adds more drama about the paths they can take and the NPC's being used and the kids having to working together
