I mean, Vah and I's is tamer lol. Y'know just a death god, a hotel prison realm and magic cults. Pretty tame.

same. It's so funny what the characters say some times. Yesterday, one of my ocs got kidnapped by the lead singer of my favorite band, who turned out to be a serial killer...but she's invinsible...

what type of shading are you going for? cell shading, realistic, blocky, or other?
you should find a shading style you like the most and do your best to practice that within your art
i can also provide tutorials if need be :D

Right hopefully this isn't too big lol.
Obviously very rushed but I hope this gives an idea, I assumed from the shading you had already done that the light source was somewhat overhead? So that's what I've continued.

I think the main thing you need to grasp is that the wolf is not flat. Where it is fluffy there will be many shadows underneath clumps of hair, and in certain parts of the body there will be shadowed muscle definition.

As you are using a lineart, I have coloured underneath the already outlined clumps of fur and added some of my own lines that follow the fur direction. Try to follow the shape of the wolf's body and try to visualise which parts will be hitting the light.

This is more so for a painting style though. If Cel-shading is your thing try to practice something similar but keeping the line between shadow and light more fluid, and the same colour. Where there is shadow there should also be highlight, too!

Having said this there is no right or wrong method for shading. Find what fits best for you.

also depends on the shading style~ i find painting the shadows on the same layer works for realism (of course after you put color down) but for any other style it may not

Yes, but never black

It only depends on what color your shading

Black color isn't best for shading though. I recommend a blue or purple.

What I did when I started to learn shading is a took a regular black color traced the outline of where I though shadows should go ( under cheek fur, ears, ect) then lowers the opacity. Then repeat until I'm happy. I can make a small drawing showing what I'm saying that that would help.

Yes please!

If you want to! It is not a must. I personally like to paint almost everything on one layer, but I know that is not a popular method. It's whatever works best for you
