Recently reports of a genetically recreated Dire Wolves have been in the News. (Real News, not Game News). We'd love to know your opinions about this. Total Votes: 221

I voted other because they're not direwolves, but it's cool that they've been brought back. From my understanding, these creatures are genetically modified grey wolves to have more similar dire wolf DNA despite dire wolves being closer to another animal (African Jackal I believe?) than to wolves. It's a "nice try, but you got the wrong target" in my eyes. |

lol i was gonna ask this. they're more like genetically engineered designer grey wolves lmao, not dire wolves. it feels like mainly a publicity move to bring more attention to Colossal i dunno. |

They took a gray wolf, changed 20 genes. If you took a person and changed 20 genes it would still be a person. Cool technology but we don't even have a niche anymore for a real dire wolf anywhere in the world so I'm glad it's just a big white gray wolf. |

Everyone is focusing on the dire wolves not the fact that theyre also using this to help the endangered red wolf by cloning them. |

This pretty much, while the idea that " dire wolves " have been brought back is cool. From my understanding they really haven't been brought back. So I'm almost tired of hearing about them lol |

while i think it's cool from a scientific standpoint, they certainly aren't direwolves, and the money used in the project should've been put towards reintroduction and conservation of extant wolves i think |

Funny, I was actually going to suggest a defect based on direwolves. I find it super cool, I lknow its not real direwolves, but the science part and what it could led to in the future is super interesting. |

I feel that any extinct animal from 200+ years before this should not be brought back from the dead, because they died for a good reason. If an animal were essential to an ecosystem, then sure, bring it back, but if it died 10,000 years ago, it doesn't need to be brought back. It's just a waste of money. |
