An open-world roleplay with a general plot

The plague is nearing its end. It is time to come together, time to recover

<<T H E _ S T O R Y >>

A close-knit pack of stray dogs lived amongst the city streets. They took care of each other, they watched out for each other.

Then everything changed. The plague came

A highly-contagious disease drove all the people away. A lot of them left their pets behind in fear of being infected. The small pack fractured when their leader became ill. Their wise, benevolent leader. The keystone of the pack. The pack members claimed it was safer to split up, and that they would come back together when it was all over.

The truth of the matter was that they were terrified

You see, the plague made creatures lose themselves. Unable to control their own bodies, they attacked everyone and everything that moved. It was similar to rabies, but resistant to everything that the humans attempted to treat it with. It was also long-lasting. There was a slow onset of symptoms that turned into the madness, which lasted up to a week, upon which the animal's body started to shut down, its organs failing in a horrible, slow, agonizing death

Three years went by

Life on the streets became more than difficult. Food and water were hard to come by, and the survivors of the plague killed each other over these simple resources. Some hoped that the humans would come back and save them, which never happened. Very few puppies were born during this time. Few wanted to bring fresh life into this desolate wasteland.

The plague began to taper down, cases of the illness becoming less common

But that doesn't mean that they went away

The ragged, skinny creatures with dull, hopeless eyes were somehow still clinging to through life on the streets. Not all of the original pack survived. In fact, most of them didn't. A few dogs still clung to hope, hoping that things would get better. Would they?

The plague spreads through bodily fluids, which is easier than one might imagine. Rats often are the only food source available, and can spread the sickness easily, as they can carry it up to a week without displaying symptoms. Dogs often go days without eating due to this fact, and the lucky ones find other food sources

It starts with simple symptoms. A dog can carry the illness without displaying any symptoms for up to a week.

Then the headaches and fatigue set in. A dog will start having headaches. Mild at first, then they get worse and worse. The dog feels exhausted all the time. This normally lasts only two days maximum.

Nausea sets in soon after the headaches become excruciating. The dog feels very sick now, and will throw up occasionally. The headaches coupled with the nausea can become excruciating, and the dog will often be incapacitated if it is severe. The amount of time that the dog is in this stage of the sickness differs.

Then the madness sets in. An animal will attack anything that moves. lights seem all too bright for animals in this stage, and most times they are not mentally there. Speaking won't work. You can't fight them for fear of spreading the plague. Running is the only option.

-Eve's Rules first and foremost

-BE LITERATE. I can not stress this enough. 2+ paragraphs please

-No wolfdogs. It is highly unlikely that one would end up on the streets of a big city, especially after the outbreak of the illness

-Please use different dog breeds! If there are already two German shepherds, please do not make another one!

-Put your favorite color in other

-Hate the character, not the player

-Please please please be active! We can not continue the story if no one is posting.

<< N O T E >>

I will use a random generator to decide if a character gets ill to further the plot. Every so often I will PM someone if their character gets sick. If you are not okay with this, don't join the roleplay.

Alternatively, if you would like your character to get sick, PM me please!

This roleplay looks really interesting! I do have two questions, though.

First of all, although I have done a fair bit of roleplaying, I have done none on WolfPlay, so especially at first, I may not be the best at things. Is that okay?

Second of all, is there any limit to how many characters we're allowed to have?

Character name: Cinnamon though changed her name to Thetis

Age:4 years old

Gender:Feminine

Sexuality:Heterosexual

Appearance: Thetis is built very slim, her long legs petite while her ribcage shows through her pelt. Her fur is thick but her ribs are still a bit visible. Thetis has smooth fur that she keeps groomed even through all her hardships. It's tough to survive where she is but she believes she can atleast look presentable. Thetis has black fur all around like any other doberman, ankles a dark root bear brown with one inch claws. She has a slender muzzle to which the bottom half is also brown. Her ears perk up like shes always alert and has a short nub for a tail. Thetis has orange-brown eyes that seem to be clouded and cold. Her underbelly is also the same brown elsewhere and her nose is like obsidian. Thetis weight about 99 pounds due to her eating circumstances and she stands at 2.6 feet. She tends to stand tall, a cunning aspect to her looks even though she looks the same as other dobermans.

Personality:Thetis is a logical and brave dog. She often steps up for others without hesitation and assumes the role of leader. She is without a doubt dominant and isn't afraid of a challenge. Thetis enjoys power and is very ambitious, as for being logical if a dog talks nonsense and does nonsense then she will correct them with a stern gaze. Thetis isn't one to lope around looking for companionship and love no she is stubborn and thinks its every dog for themselves. She won't accept partnership that easily but will under special circumstances. Thetis isn't easily impressed and often gives others trials to earn the right to stand beside her. She only gazes at the most suitable dogs and no other. Given that,Thetis is very loyal and can not be easily persuaded. She doesn't like to see weakness, it makes her feel pity and her walls to be cracked down. If she sees someone in need of help expect her to stride over without so much as a thought. Thetis does care for others, just once she does she'll be gone before you can say thanks. Shes not affectionate much but likes the aspect of it and enjoys the warmth of perhaps another. She got used to the cold a long time ago once she was abandoned but that doesn't mean she wouldn't like the heat back. No Thetis is definitely not thirsty for love. She is more concerned about survival then affairs but she is a female and can get attracted if she sees a Male suitable. Other than that she will assume her relationships all platonic if she even gains any due to her high walls. While in her youth years Thetis won't miss a chance to actually relax and enjoy her days on earth. She knows she can get sick anytime and wants to make the most of everyday. She enjoys competitions and is rather competitve, willing to dip a paw in the grime even if it means getting her coat dirty. Thetis does have a sense of humor, a crack of sarcasm can often be heard whenever she speaks.

Other:Blue.

That's perfectly alright!

No there is not, but since it is a literate roleplay, it's advised that you don't have more than two characters so you don't fall behind.

"I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me." -Joshua Graham, Fallout

4.5

Male

American Akita mix

Straight

(c)Jaded-Night-Stock

Built with a stocky frame and large paws, Gunnar has strong shoulders and a chest that is surprisingly broad for a dog who has had hardship getting food his whole life. His ribs are like washboards due to lack of food, and his coat is dull and grimy. Gunnar has an odd tail. It is short, but only very loosely curled. Most of the time it just hangs limp on his hindquarters, but when he wags his tail it moves in loose circular motions. His dark brown eyes carry a light that may seem defeated at first, but when you get to know Gunnar a bit more, one might realize that it is not defeat, but a bitter determination in his eyes. His voice is deep, warm, and a bit rough, and seems to put other dogs at ease.
---

Gunnar is a quiet dog who seems to carry a great weight on his shoulders. He walks with his head held just about level with his shoulders, a determined plod forward that moves in a steady rhythm. Gunnar may come off as extremely cautious to other dogs at first, and often very odd. Gunnar doesn't want to lose anyone to the plague, and he can do that successfully if he doesn't get close with anyone. Once he warms up a bit to others, he is pretty interesting to talk to. He is calm and has an odd sense of humor, often making jokes or odd comments that are difficult to understand or have a deeper meaning than they may seem.

Gunnar has street-smarts and is often able to find other ways to get food, but would rather starve himself than risk eating the rats that scurry across the barren streets. He believes that the plague is the worst thing that can happen to a dog, and wouldn't wish it on his worst enemy. Therefore, he is often willing to help other dogs find food. Because he has spent most of his life alone, he has a strong internal dialogue. He often can be found muttering all sorts of things under his breath to himself as he pads around, searching for food among the cold, empty back alleys of the empty city.

---

His past is unknown to others. Like most dogs in the ruins of the city, he has had a rough life. When the outbreak of the plague first happened, he traveled with his brother, whom he was very close with. It was only a few months until his brother caught the illness, and Gunnar was forced, with much grief, to leave him to die and flee to the outskirts of the city, where he has lived most of his life a solitary dog, far from the heart of the city. While he was feeling particularly lonely and upset, he decided to head toward the center of the city and try and find another dog to talk to, just for the sake of not being in his own head so often.

Gender↠ Female
Breed↠ Saluki mix
Sexuality↠ Straight

- Appearance -

Like a white petal flattened against the wet the asphalt, Niara is not all she used to be. Looking at her, you can see traces of the strong, magnificent creature she once was. The Saluki mix has managed to retain her ethereal presence through it all, going from a stunning sphinx of a creature, with rippling muscles and a proud, sloping muzzle - to a withering flower, still beautiful in it's decay. Her loam-brown eyes are as deep and soulful as ever, somehow managing to retain their warmth during the horrible cries of death all around them. She carries her head high and proud. When she's on her feet, each step is art. The way she moves through the air, like a shark slices through the water, redefines the very definition of walking itself.

Even so, Niara is fading away. Her white coloring has dulled. Her skin clings to her body, dipping in and out of her skeletal frame. Rows of ribs jut out of her like canyons, and her spine like a mountain ridge tracing down her back. The fur on her belly, muzzle, and paws is tinged pink from blood residue, and her paw pads are torn and cracked from the hard, relentless ground. She is a strange replica of the old Niara, a dog who was both bold and serene. Who saw the world as something that'd she'd already conquered.

How wrong that thought had been.

Now, she's become jumpy over the months of turmoil, ears always pricked, listening for danger, tail thumping uneasily whenever she has a moment to lay down. As the days go on, she finds herself having to rest more and more, every breath she takes tinged with a slight ache despite her young age. At the slightest crack of noise, she'll leap up in a bolt of panic. There are scars on her mind as well as scars tracing silver across her skin, and the stench of death that clings to the air has all but completely overwhelmed her sense of smell.

- Personality / History -

Niara is a quiet creature, with a voice softer than a drizzle of rain. From the outside, she resembles a young tree in the winter, covered in a thin casing of ice, teetering on the border between life and death. Many of her fellow dogs regard her with a sad indifference, as if she is already on the path to endless sleep. But Niara is more resilient than a tree. Her roots have burrowed into something much stronger than earth, stronger than any material lying over the ground: Her will to live.

Niara's determination has always set her apart, even when she was young pup. Having been born a stray, she never knew the posh life as a house dog. She was smaller and weaker than her litter mates, and survived solely because of her ability to keep trying, again and again - to reach her mother's milk - even as she was relentlessly bitten and swept aside. It's her philosophy that even water can split rock if it never stops flowing, and she reminds herself of that fact from day to day. It's just another step forward, just another jolt of pain. It's nothing that she hasn't faced before or won't face again. The key is to just keep going.

Around other dogs, Niara had once been very open and affectionate, easily making friends and earning a spot in a street pack as the quiet, resilient one with a mothering instinct. During the first year of the plague, she was relied on heavily by her fellow pack members, watching the young and urging the others forward with words of encouragement. But the young all passed away, and her words were silenced as each and every one of them were cut down by the illness. The sickly sweet smell of the plague on their breath drove her to the outskirts of their territory. They begged her to come near them, but Niara's instinct wouldn't allow her to. She watched them breath their last from a distance, hanging her head, trying to ignore the sound of their pleas for water. For help. For her.

She abandoned them.

After days of wandering alone, Niara joined her current pack, but it's hasn't been the same. She's lost her family twice now. First, as a puppy, when her mother was struck by a vehicle and her siblings splintered in all directions. And then, as an adult, when her friends fell dead around her.

It's just too hard to return to the way she was. Instead, the female has become quieter - a more reserved version of herself. She still mothers, still tries to provide comfort where she can, but more and more, she needs someone to provide comfort to her. It never seems to be there.

Niara believes her spirit isn't broken. She has to. No matter how reclusive or quiet she becomes, she can't allow herself to devolve like many of the feral dogs that now roam after dark, too savage for a pack. There is no way she will ever take that route. She's managed to make it this far, and the long, horrid reign of the plague is almost over. If she can just make it a day longer than the illness does, all her past struggles will have beeen worth it.

Every once in a while, a bit of her old personality comes through. The younger dogs, especially, are able to bring it out of her, and she enjoys a good romp with them from time to time. When fellow pack mate is injured, Niara is the first to come over, poking at them with her muzzle and encouraging them to stand up. During cold nights, she'll snuggle up to whatever dog is nearest to her and willing to tolerate her presence.

It's only when that smell returns - the sickly sweet plague stench that clings to an infected dog - when Niara's loving nature shifts. It manages to strike fear into her heart like nothing else, and flashes of the past return to her mind. Flashes of her friends dying. Of her, doing nothing but watching. Letting them leave this world, alone and scared, because of her own cowardliness. When that happens, she snaps, growling and threatening anyone brave enough to get near her.

What would happen if she catches the plague?
Would they leave her?

She doesn't want to die alone. It's her worst fear.

And Niara knows, deep down inside her, that if it ever does happen to her, they'll leave her in a heart beat. Leave her, even as she cries. Even as she pleads. And who could blame them? She's already done the same. exact. thing.

She can never forgive herself.
