In a world where the fantastical is very much real and dangerous, a keep on the border of the world looms over the thrashing waves of the sea.
Within its halls, they train some of the world's best soldiers, but these aren't just any soldiers. These are Dragon riders. They are to be the premier force within armies of kingdoms throughout the continent.
Beneath the hallowed halls of the Keep rests the dragon pit. A vast series of caverns that house the dragons, both those bonded to riders and those without. That isn't to say that the area around them is entirely safe, for there are several semi-wild dragons that call the area home. Roaming along the coastline or within the dense forests, or hiding out in the snow-capped mountains. These dragons have gone the longest without a rider or have never accepted one.

This is primarily an rp inspired by the series Fourth Wing, with elements from Throne of Glass and taking world inspiration from GoT/HD and Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Every 3 years Demestaria Keep welcomes new recruits to its hallowed halls. These young students will be tasked with learning not only the art of battle, but the critical tools they will need whether they are directing forces or on the field of battle. Seasoned instructors, coming from worn soldiers to experienced commanders, will push these students to meet their potential, pushing them to their limits in every class.

Upon arriving at the Keep, students are assigned to teams under specific instructors for their dragon and aerial training. Once in these teams, students are then given specific roles within those teams, while these can be changed as they progress through their studies, it must be done with the approval of their assigned instructor.
Expectations are high, and many trials await these young riders. Will they survive their first year, or will some inevitably be forced to drop out?

What happens when strange occurrences start happening, or when dragons suddenly start disappearing?

The World of Imastria

- Demestaria Keep: A large ancient structure, once the residence of a royal family that started the tradition of training dragon riders. Now the hallowed grounds of the only school for dragon riders, being tasked with teaching new generations of dragon riders. It sits atop a cliff edge that borders the sea, causing that side of the keep to be damp for most of the year.
The grounds support the full student body and all staff working within, there are several instruction halls; hand-to-hand combat, archery range, battle tactics & strategies, along with first aid. There is a large dining hall, a ballroom for special events, and an expansive library. The living quarters of students are separated by year and by classes.
Beneath the stone structure lies the Dragon Pit, accessible through a colosseum building within the keep, and through the several cavern openings on the cliffside. Large winding tunnels connect to open caverns where dragons rest, tended by the handlers.
The territory around the Keep is a neutral land, left unclaimed by any one nation. Farmland covers much of the open space, along with livestock pastures to feed the dragons. Forest stretches along the edge and connects to the river that winds out the border of the territory. Just within a day's ride lies the end of a large mountain chain, its snowcapped peaks cutting away at the horizon as it sits just within the territory borders. Feral and semi-feral dragons lurk within the area, keeping their distance..for now.

- The Three Nations; (currently in an agreeable peace treaty)
  • The Holy Kingdom of Ephaetia; A kingdom ruled by the royal house Lenivia and a number of knightly orders. Its lands are diverse and plentiful, boasting lush forests and expansive grasslands bordered by gentle rivers. The military is disciplined and instilled with a strong sense of chivalry and duty. Know to rely on its knights, with a renowned formidable calvary.
The small nation of Gratia, which consists mostly of a series of small islands, is a vessel nation under the Holy Kingdom's protection.

  • The Ithorian Empire; The empire is a hereditary monarchy with a rigid hierarchy. All important government ministries and leadership positions are also passed down through the same noble families, generation after generation. They have a strict way of governing, valuing strength and family ties above most other things. A cold and rugged land that forced its people to adapt, covered in dense forests and icy peaks. While its strength may have declined over the years, the empire remains a contender for military might, relying heavily on its many powerful magic users.
The empire holds a vessel nation to its north, the nation of Nivia is a small island under the rule of the Empire.

  • The Zatish Alliance; Unlike the other 2 nations, the alliance is a league of multiple noble families who refuse to swear fealty to a king or emperor. Instead, it is ruled jointly as a confederacy through roundtable conferences between the 5 most prominent allied dukes called the Five Dragon Lords, which is led by House Inaz. The region has an arid climate, the lands being mostly desert and grassy planes. Often producing the best dyes and jewelry as its best export, while the military might not be the largest, it is mostly made up of mounted units and the most skilled battalions of archers.
The alliance shares direct borders with a neutral nation called Weterra, in past generations, there were frequent clashes between the 2 nations. However, in recent decades they have quieted under new leadership, seeking only trading and peaceful relations.

The Roleplay Rules
Follow all of Eve's and WP's Rules

1. Be Active. I understand that life is #1 priority and sometimes we get busy, but I expect everyone to be as active as they can for the rp. Unless you are waiting for someone to post, you should be posting. Posts should be occurring every 3-ish days. If you are delayed Please inform the group through the discussion
.
2. Reservations last 24 hours. I will remove it if I have not heard from you when that time is over. You may ask for One Extention of Up to 12-24 Hours, but You Must Ask Before the Reservation has Expired.

3. Maximum of 2 Characters per Person to Start. You can only have 1 Dragon and 1 Rider, Each in a different Available Role. Once there are more people, I will allow people to pick up more characters, max of 4. HOWEVER. You MUST Make a Rider before you make a Second Dragon. You do not need to make a dragon if you want to just make a rider though. This is to keep numbers more balanced.

4. Semi-Realism and Semi-Literacy are required. Please do not make me explain this. Due to the fantasy setting of the world, more elf-like appearances are allowed for the riders. Just try not to go overboard kay?
.
5. You cannot have your rider bonded to your own dragon, you can reach out to other players for pairs. However, you must inform me and add this information to your character form. You can also have me randomly assign pairs(by use of a random number generator).

6. I reserve the Right to Deny Applications for this Rp. I won't tolerate disrespect or rude behavior if your application gets denied, or your reservation/character gets removed due to inactivity. If you do, I won't give you the option to fix it or return it. If you are respectful, I will work with you towards a solution.

7. For simplicity's sake, All Students are new recruits. Freshly arriving at the Keep. Riders will earn their group/team ranks during the rp, you can still have that on the form but the character should not be aware of this until it is given in the rp.

8. Please try to keep things even with genders, it's much more interesting if things are diverse. LGBTQ+ is welcomed and allowed.
.
9. No Perfect Characters, Godmodding, Powerplaying, Controlling other people's characters, etc. I will not tolerate it. If you made it this far put your favorite GOT/HD character at the end of your form.

10. There will be NPC characters that exist within the Keep and around the world, please keep these brief and limited when used. (Ex. Other minor students, Dragon Handlers, and Groundskeepers/Keep Staff.)

11. Hate the Character, not the Player. This is meant to be enjoyable for everyone involved, so please be considerate.

Roleplay Information

The Dragon Bond
.
The bond between a Dragon and its rider is something surreal and sacred, unlike anything else found in the world. Something that is of incredible value within the world and highly sought after. Some try to force this bond, while others would try anything to get their hands on someone bonded to a dragon.
.
The bond is most commonly formed when both parties are young, yet since the practice of kingdoms raising their own dragons has died out, the bond is formed later, after they've enlisted into schooling.
This bond is initiated by direct touch and is often painful for humans initially due to the mark forming on their skin.
When a dragon bonds with a rider, a marking will appear on the rider, indicating they belong to a dragon and to which dragon. This is the only physical representation of their bond. This mark takes the form of a spiraled dragon tail on the rider's palm, the color of it matching the dragon's scale color. The mark burns like a brand for the first few seconds before eventually healing in a few day's time.
Through this bond the rider and dragon can feel each other, feeling the other's pain as if it were their own. This mark is a permanent brand as a dragon rider, and should the dragon die without their rider it leaves behind a silver scar, the original mark having burned off from the skin with searing pain. A rider can live on without their dragon, but a dragon without its rider is a dead dragon.
Though rare, a rider can re-bond with another dragon, the scar will be replaced with a new marking, however, a lingering ache will stem from the mark along with it being a fainter color. (This is not a common occurrence, and only 2 known instances of this have occurred within the time humans have been riding dragons)

This bond with the dragon enables the rider with some new abilities.
First would be the obvious ability to communicate telepathically with each other, along with simply being able to sense the other. Through this bond, a dragon and its rider are often considered part of each other, as while a rider can sense their dragon's pain, the dragon will directly feel any pain their rider would endure.
This bond can be used to find someone through the innate sense of the other, focusing on the bond you will feel a tug in the direction of the other. This can be used until within range for communication. Through the magic of the bond, a rider is effectively immortal, as they now share their dragon's immortality. However, if a rider loses their dragon, they begin to age again, yet at a much slower pace than regular humans as the magic of the bond lingers within them.

The Dragons
.
Dragons are quadruped(4 legs) beasts with 2 large wings, capable of growing to immense sizes. They are not considered ridable mounts until the age of a young adult, which equates to roughly 50-70 years old. Adults are those past 100 years of age, mature adults at age 200, old at 450, and ancient/venerable at 800 years of age. These creatures are effectively immortal with the ability to live thousands of years, however, once a dragon gets past 900 they start showing signs of age, becoming sluggish and often avoiding flight. Yet few dragons have achieved this age, so it is unknown what age they pass naturally. Few wild dragons have reached past the age of 600.
These creatures can often be fickle about who they choose to bond with, sometimes waiting decades, even centuries before choosing a rider.

For this RP, dragons will be within the age range of 60 to 500 years old, ranging from [18ft tall/72ft long/45ft wingspan] to [65ft tall/120ft long/150ft wingspan]. However, there can be a few exceptions that can be older.
Your dragon's unique abilities and individual weaknesses are up to you! There will be a universal set of strengths and weaknesses that apply to all dragons, but each individual will have their own as well. There must be 1 Weakness for Every 1 Ability they have. (Ex. 5 abilities must have 5 weaknesses) You must have half of the Weaknesses be Physical/Elemental or Limitations.
This is to keep things balanced, and no dragon too OP. They are formidable creatures, but not invincible.

Outside of the Dragon/Rider types, this RP will have two main categories: The Students and The Instructors.
.
The instructors are seasoned warriors with real battle experience, hand-picked by the school's administrators to pass their skills onto the next generation. These riders can include skilled soldiers or former commanders. While most of these people should be bonded to a dragon, I will accept 1 exception.
Ages should be 25 to 35+
.
As for the students, these riders come from any of the mentioned kingdoms above, and from any walk of life. Whether that be from nobility or commoners, only a few royals will be accepted. Most of them will be unbonded when they arrive at the Keep, but there can be 2-3 who are already bonded to a dragon.
Ages should be 14 to 18
.
I ask that we try to keep things even between the riders and dragons, I will allow a difference of 2. (Ex. If we have 4 riders and 5 dragons, it will be ok. But if we have 3 riders and 6 dragons, nope)
I likely won't start the RP until we have 3-4 instructors (including the ones assigned to the teams), and 4-5 pairs for the students/dragons (excluding the instructor's dragons).

Despite always being dressed in leather or armor, the woman is a striking figure. The soft elegant features of her face paired with the gem-like purple of her eyes make it hard not to see the beauty she processes. Her ears while mostly rounded, are pointed faintly at the top. Soft raven-black hair hangs just past her shoulders, and a red vine-like marking weaves over her brow the only remnant from her time serving her nation. While a single scar passes over her right eye the only visible flaw on her otherwise flawless pale skin. However, she hides a series of jagged scars on her back and side.
Standing roughly 5'3" Maeve is much smaller than many of her fellow soldiers, however her skill more than makes up for it. Slender but well-built form, she is curvy but lean-muscled. Her strength is nothing to be denied. Moving with poise and grace, her movements practiced and careful, every action thought out and planned. Duel blades are her specialty, the flow and movement of her actions resembling that of a dance.
Maeve is most often dressed in black soldier uniforms, leather, and armor. Rarely found without her twin shortswords, or without at least her family dagger. If not in uniform, she is often dressed in simple clothes in dark fabrics, paired with a good pair of boots.

Solflare is an imposing and formidable figure, standing 60ft tall at the shoulder, and 120ft from nose to tail. Her size is only accentuated by her impressive wingspan of 150ft. Vibrant deep scarlet scales, that shimmer softly in the sun. Two rows of small spikes line her spine, connecting into one as they continue down her tail, ending in a bony spear tip. Five small horns line her cheeks, descending in size as they lead to the bottom of her jaw. While her large golden horns curve back and curl faintly inwards, forming a small crown-like shape. The scales covering her underbelly and up her throat are a deep golden, shimmering like pieces of forgotten treasure. Her wings share a membrane color with her underbelly. A small section of her throat bares what appears to be cracks, which glow orange when she prepares to use a breath attack. Which is a scorching firey blaze, matching the scarlet of her scales. Her eyes are a vibrant orange flecked with gold, shining almost akin to living flames.

Amply named Solflare by humans, this dragon's real name is Vo'mir. A name that is only known by fellow dragons and her chosen rider.
She is a fearsome beast whose presence demands respect with a touch of fear for this magnificent dragon, whose beauty is matched by her sheer power and ferocity. Whether soaring through the skies or unleashing her firey wrath upon her enemies, Sol stands as a formidable force to be reckoned with.
Sol is a stubborn, quick to anger dragon, who is known for her disdain for ignorant disrespectful people. Even trained handlers and experienced riders are often cautious around her, ever watchful should she grow irritable and lash out. More than a few handlers have walked away with scorch marks from a warning blast.
|Loyal| - A surprisingly defining trait, she is fiercely devoted and protective of the few she holds close. Once she forms a bond with someone, should any harm befall them Sol would stop at nothing to seek vengeance and retribution. Caring immensely for the well-being of the few she calls friends and loved ones, exhibiting unwavering loyalty even in the face of death.
|Unforgiving| - She is not one to forget easily. Nor does she forgive those who wronged her, tending to form and hold grudges against those who wrong her or those close to her.
Despite her fierce nature, she is not without compassion. Being able to form deep emotional bonds with the few she deems worthy. Sometimes offering protection and guidance, although in harsh blunt words. However, she'd be willing to go to hell for those few she holds dear. This makes her a formidable ally but also a trusted companion.

Abilities:
[Fire Breath] - The ability to exhale a concentrated blast or stream of flames. These flames are produced within her; a flammable gas stored within her body that ignites as it makes contact with the air. Several notable characteristics include;_
-First and foremost it's incredibly hot, capable of instantly melting or scorching objects. This can be used defensively to coat her body/form barriers or eliminate targets. This breath can be used for many destructive or area-control tasks.
-Additionally, this attack can have environmental effects. Able to superheat the surrounding area, this can boil nearby water sources, create flammable terrain, or even clear obstacles or paths.
*-fire breath able to be used with winds to enhance the attack range, cause more area damage, or to create firey twisters
-Can be condensed into smaller blasts that hit with considerable force (think spells like fireball/firebolt)
*it is important to note, that this fire breath attack requires her to have access to her gas reserves or ample heat. Often needs to replenish her reserves or take breaks between extended uses to avoid exhausting this ability or causing damage to herself. (her scales are the only thing fire-proof)
[Heat Aura] - the ability to raise the temperature of the area around her drastically, sometimes up to temps only her heat-tolerant scales can tolerate. This can cause 2nd degree burns in seconds over anything within range, or even cause flammable objects to spontaneously combust. *used only in severe situations/when out of options*
