Garvin | M | N/A (25) | N/A | Brin/Ambi | Catecholamine Rush-Envious Typhokinesis | Mentions; Akira (Ind/Dir)

*~*~*~*

Watching Aki get up proved just as boring as it always tended to be for him. Really, he was just half watching, mostly staring that way to give them the idea. More fun than watching them get up as soon as the word food was said, was the wall right behind them, with bumps and lines and looking just as rough as he was sure it probably felt. Still, by the time he focused back on Key, it was to the sound of their voice.

--

Thanks. Mornin’!

--

They were already sitting up. That was fine. He matched the smile Cass flashed towards him, noticing after a second that he’d half nodded at the words. The headache wasn’t gone yet, if the pressure behind his eyes was anything to go by. It was easy enough to ignore, just another dull pain to add to the list of others and headaches tended to be on there anyways. He should’ve finished the bottle before waking Kira up, if anything. Too late now, since he wasn’t actually ‘allowed’ to bring it with him to get food. Something about stopping any issues. He thought it was a dumb rule. He’d still rather get food sooner instead of later though, so he could deal with it.

--

Right, well, we wouldn’t wanna miss the bes’ part of the day, would we? Ya good ta go?

--

Cash was standing, and helping him stand too already. When had they offered their hand to him? Why had they offered their hand to him? He decided it probably didn’t matter, it wasn’t too long ago, he didn’t think.

--

‘Course ‘m good ta go, ‘quila.” That was him, and though he couldn’t remember what Plum had said or thinking through an answer, he decided it was fine. Whatever had happened. Hadn’t he already said Aquila though? He wasn’t sure at this point. It was fine though, he answered whatever they’d said and whatever he’d said was good enough for him. Mostly, he wanted to go eat already. And he was on his feet, so turning on his heels towards a door in the room out of habit was easy, half noticing as he walked through the door and into a hallway. Two for two then? He was pretty sure that made two for two when it came to doors.

*~*~*~*

Irfam ‘Ellie’ Oryam Ellery | M | 28 | O- | Apothi-Apres-Demi/Ambi | Power Blueprint-Unexpected Success-Fire Walls | Mentions; Pewter, Beel, Promachus, Raphael, Rooster, Kostas (Ind)

*~*~*~*

Walking out from his room in the direction Pewter had gone, Irfam wasn’t too surprised that he didn’t see the cat. He’d probably gone off to do, as he always did, whatever he wanted. He’d see him again at some point today. Probably whenever Pewter got bored. Which would undoubtedly be annoying but, well, he did have things to do. So he’d deal with that when it became an issue.

--

Stepping into the main room and glancing around, he spotted Beel sleeping on the floor. Irfam huffed, staring in envy that he got to sleep through the morning and he didn’t. What gave Beel the right to do that but not him? Being human sucked sometimes. A lot of the time, really, but that didn’t matter. All that mattered was how unfair it was that Beel was sleeping instead of him. He should be able to sleep the day away. Stepping over the dog, he continued walking. What was he supposed to be doing today? Kostas was coming over at some point, for some reason. Probably because Gabe was trying to make the two work together or whatever. He knew what was really going on and he did not need someone watching him, Gabby! He was fine on his own. Or maybe it was Raph’s idea. He had gotten rather insistent about… Whatever it was that Raph tried to lecture him about every time they saw each other. He wasn’t sure whose idea it had been but he knew what they were trying to do. And it was very annoying.

--

But other than Kostas coming over, Irfam honestly wasn’t too sure what all there was to do today. He had plenty of projects to work on, but nothing in the agenda for today that he could actually remember. So either he’d forgotten something or he hadn’t made a plan for today since he didn’t know how long Kostas would be here for. Besides, plans weren’t really his thing, even with his projects he had plenty going on at any given time to work on whatever he felt like working on instead of any allotted time for each or something like that. He also didn’t know when Kostas would get here, so that crossed off any projects that would end up being time sensitive. Just in case or whatever.

--

Continuing to walk, he stepped past a drawer in the middle of the hallway, out of habit he glanced over to make sure Pewter hadn’t gotten up there and knocked the cover keeping the mirror out of view. Luckily, the cat hadn’t, which meant he didn’t have to fix it again. Or see his reflection, which was the whole point of covering it. So, he stopped and opened the top drawer to grab his gloves, because that was probably a good idea to do… Probably. Taking them out, he put them on, shut the drawer, and continued walking down the hall. He’d figure out something to do while waiting. Maybe he could find Rooster and talk to him until Kostas got here, that could probably work… If he could actually find Roo, that is.

*~*~*~*

Gorōta ‘Rotor’ Sanae Ryuugo | M | 22 | O+ | Demi/Ambi | Healing | Mentions; Hanu

*~*~*~*

Hanu stared at him for a moment, and Gorōta tried not to shrink back at all. He didn’t want him to worry. His friend hummed though, as if trying to decide to trust him or not, and then nodded with a smile. “Fine, fine. Change your patch and then come eat. I want food now, so I’ll go ahead and leave.

--

Gorōta nodded, thankful that he’d managed to gain some time at least, and watched as Hanu started to leave, relief growing with each step that his friend didn’t turn back with. Until he did, looking right at him, a huge grin forming on his face, looking just as forced as Gorōta knew it was. “If you aren’t there by the time Daiji is, then I’ll come back here and drag you to breakfast myself!

--

He bit his cheek anxiously at the words regardless of how fake the smile was, because Hanu wasn’t joking about that. It’d happened before. Still, he offered an awkward smile and nod to his friend, who nodded in return fast and with purpose before turning back and leaving the room. And as soon as the door closed, Gorōta sighed and walked over to his nightstand to grab a new patch. Even if he’d said it in the moment to be left here alone, he did still need to change it. So it hadn’t been a complete lie, at least.

--

Picking one out of the box he had with him was easy enough, and he walked towards the bathroom to change it. As long as he’d been wearing them for, he still preferred having a mirror to see what he was doing as he put them on. It was just easier for him that way, no matter how much he hated seeing the socket. Or any of him, honestly. Still, he stepped in the bathroom and closed the door behind him. He wasn’t too sure how he could get out of breakfast today, especially since Daiji was apparently visiting again already. Usually he waited a week or so before coming to check in on them… He hoped it wasn’t because of what Hanu told him. He definitely couldn’t get out of eating if it was. But he had until Daiji got here, and that was enough for him right now, he’d figure something out by then… Hopefully.

Simon ‘Cye’ Omiros Stewart | M | 25 | A+ | Ace-Recipo/Ambi | Deceit | Mentions; Anna, Khorne, Ingall (Ind)

*~*~*~*

When Simon woke up, he woke up to Ingall already gone, as he usually was. From what he’d managed to gather so far, he tended to be one of the first up. At some point, he would need to wake up either earlier or at the same time to make sure he knew his roommate’s schedule. But, for now, he was trying to get the schedule of the majority. So, glancing at the clock in the room, Simon sat up with ease. Sleep had never been hard for him to get up from, at least. Though, with Anna as a twin sister, he was fairly certain that had never been an option for him anyways. The clock told him that it was seven o’clock at least, which meant that Ingall probably had only just left for breakfast.

--

Standing up, Simon gave himself a moment to take a breath. As much as he liked to complain about Anna, not having her around was… Odd. He didn’t have time to think about how she might be doing without him though, he had a job to do for the arena and they’d already promised that she wouldn’t be in any fights until he returned. And while he wasn’t inclined to believe them, he was inclined to just do his job and force himself to trust them. He had up to a week left anyways, though he was hoping to finish sooner. And besides, she had Khorne if anything happened. Though, he… It was proving harder to trust where it stood each day… He shook his head, and forced himself to begin his day.

--

He took the time to make his bed, glancing minutely at Ingall’s whenever he couldn’t recall the precise placements that his roommate used. As odd as it seemed, he’d rather make sure there were no chances of issues and Ingall seemed to care for organization enough that it could cause an issue potentially. Not that Simin truly minded, he’d rather extreme organization than disorder. So, he made his bed the same way as his roommate’s before heading to the bathroom to shower.

--

It didn’t take him too long to get ready, in all honesty. What took the longest, other than his shower, was him taking a good five minutes to go over the schedule he’d be sticking to for today, the cover story he had for anyone that asked anything before he was allowed to mention the arena, and any holes in said story that he needed to fill. Or any holes in things he’s said previously so far that might need explaining. He couldn’t fail here. And he wouldn’t. He never failed his jobs, he knew where his worth laid within the arena and he knew where he wanted it. Needed it.

--

As soon as he was done getting ready though, Simon left the room, unwilling to waste any time that could be spent following his schedule for today on anything else. He’d have time to consider everything else at some later point. He had things to do. The clock read 7:20 when he left and headed towards the kitchen, the time that the majority of people here managed to reach the kitchen by and he was right on schedule.

Karma ‘Kam’ Bravo | NB | 24 | AB- | Pan | Ambi | Boomerang | M: Kostas, Irfam(Dir/Ind.)

Karma walked slightly behind Kostas as they made their way to the kitchen. People were already mingling when they arrived, and Karma recognized several of them. However, their anxiety spiked a little at the small crowd. Kos picked up on it, gently squeezing their hand and guiding them to the food to grab a plate before the two of them walked over to a more secluded corner to eat.

"I have to go meet with Irfam after this." Kostas said softly, causing Karma to look up. "Will you be alright here, or would you prefer to accompany me?"

Karma resisted the urge to grit their teeth in annoyance, stomach rolling at the mention of Irfam, who, as far as Karma could tell, was very much stealing their boyfriend away from them. Of course, they'd prefer to accompany Kos, as leaving him at all sounded like a recipe for a shitty day, and leaving him alone with Irfam sounded even worse, but they could hardly say that. Plus, a lab probably wasn't the best place for someone like Karma to be.

"I'll be fine." They spat out, barely containing the mixture of anger and annoyance. And, apparently, barely wasn't enough, as Kostas looked at them with brows furrowed in confusion.

"My apologies, Karma, is something bothering you?"

"No." They looked away, clenching their hand hard around their fork. "I'm fine."

"You seem bothered."

"I'm fine, Kostas." Karma hissed, digging the fork into their food. "Leave it alone."

Kostas seemed to hesitate for a moment before nodding slightly. "Very well. Please inform me if something is making you uncomfortable, though."

"Yeah. Whatever."

They ate in silence after that, and Karma couldn't help but skim the room. They weren't really sure who they were looking for, it wasn't like they were remotely comfortable with anyone other than Kostas, but, at the same time, spending the entire day alone hardly seemed better. If they had to do that, the bad thoughts would most certainly take over.

The only problem was, Karma truly didn't know who would even be willing to be around them for more than a few minutes at a time.

'Great,' They thought bitterly. 'Looks like today will be just wonderful.'

Kostas ‘Kos’ Osborne | Male | 25 | A+ | Ace-Pan | Ambi | Mind | M: Karma, Irfam (Dir/Ind.)

As they made their way to the kitchen, Kostas could sense Karma growing increasingly uncomfortable behind him. He was well aware that his partner didn't handle crowds well, but, somehow, it still surprised him that something that seemed so inconsequential to him could feel so terrible to someone else.

But, then again, he couldn't speak much on the topic of emotion. After all, he didn't feel much at all. So, he did what he could to support Karma with his minimal understanding and reached back to gently squeeze their hand and lead them through the growing sea of people to grab a plate and then go off to a quieter corner. Karma seemed to relax a little and Kostas nodded to himself.

"I have to go meet with Irfam after this, will you be alright here, or would you prefer to accompany me?"

"I'll be fine."

Karma's words were short and spat out, causing Kostas to look up in confusion. He knew his partner well, and their tone was obviously irritated. The only problem was that Kos had zero idea why. As far as he knew, nothing that he'd said was particularly triggering or terrible, so the reaction seemed to come out of the blue.

"My apologies, Karma, is something bothering you?"

He spoke carefully, watching with even further confusion as Karma seemed to tense and look away.

"No, I'm fine."

Kostas blinked. Karma's words conflicted with what Kos knew about their body language and tone, it didn't make sense.

"You seem bothered."

"I'm fine, Kostas. Leave it alone."

The words were hissed out and so obviously angry that it took Kostas a moment to gather his thoughts enough to reply. Right, not a good time to talk then.

"Very well. Please inform me if something is making you uncomfortable, though."

"Yeah. Whatever."

Kostas continued to watch Karma carefully, but, evidentally, his partner was set on completely avoiding eye-contact, or any interaction at all, for that matter. And, unfortunately, Kostas not only had no idea why, but also couldn't ask what was going on without making things worse.

Kostas knew his partner very well, but one thing he would never understand was their unwillingness to communicate through obviously heightened emotions. It seemed to him that everything could be solved if they were only able to talk about it. After all, it was rare that Kostas couldn't find a decent solution.

Akira ‘Kira’ Casimir Toivo | NB | 21 | B- | Demi-Omni | Ambi | Strategize | M: Garvin, Nico (Dir.)

Garvin's movements seemed slow as Akira watched, almost belated. With most, this could be attributed to drunkness or sickness, but with Garvin? Something was wrong.

Bad night or morning for sure.

‘Course ‘m good ta go, ‘quila.

And that worsened it. "Aquila" was a nickname Garvin had both already used and one that he used more frequently when he wasn't doing great. Definitely not a good sign.

So, Kira smiled slightly and followed Garvin out of the room, closing the door behind them and lengthening his stride to match his friends. Pointing anything out would probably just make things worse, so Akira stuck to the norm, pretending not to notice anything off. Really, the hardest part of all of this would be keeping it from Nico. The guy was usually at the base in the mornings, him and their partners waking up early to get to the base at the same time that those living there got breakfast, which meant two things. One, Nico was either already at the base or would be very soon, and, two, Akira had less time to figure out how to best cover up Garvin's behavior and Garvin had less time to recover. Which also meant that Nico would pick up on something being off almost immediately.

"Watcha think we'll be doin' today? Rather, what're ya hopin' for?"

Questions. Distracting questions, those helped, right?

Well, not for long, evidently, because as soon as Akira stepped foot in the kitchen, a familiar face caught their eye. Nico was standing beside one of their partners, River, and listening as they talked to a friend of theirs that Kira didn't recognize. However, after only a moment, Nico's eyes flicked over and his face lit up in a brilliant smile as she recognized them. Aki waved lazily, pretending like they weren't internally panicking, and watched as Nico turned to say something to River quickly before rushing over and throwing himself at Akira, who stumbled slightly before catching them both.

"Ri! Vinny!" They practically squealed as Akira released her and she threw herself at Garvin too, clinging to him for a moment longer. "I missed you two! How are you? Oh, guess what?! Adiar said he doesn't have anything for me to do today, so I can tag along with you all and B! Awesome, right? I never get to do that!"

Aki couldn't help but chuckle a little at the excitement, even as a hint of unease slipped into their brain at how Nico spoke about Adiar. As if he was in complete control of everything Nico was able to do. As if they weren't a fully functional adult who could make their own decisions.

As usual, though, they shoved the thoughts away. Nico was fine. Obviously. He was always happy and energetic, so, of course, she was fine.

"Hey, Garvy? You good?" Akira tensed slightly, looking over as Nico tilted his head slightly, watching Garvin with their perceptive gaze.

Aki chuckled lightly. "We haven't had breakfast yet, Niki! We're both still wakin' up, hm? How 'bout ya come sit with us, k? We can talk plans."

Nico lightened up again at that and nodded eagerly, humming softly as she grabbed one of Garvin's arms and one of Akira's, pulling them toward the food.

Ingall ‘Angel’ Dara Featherlight | Male | 22 | B- | Demi-Pan | Ambi | Enticing Voice | M: Sol (Dir.)

Upon arriving in the kitchen for the second time, Ingall waisted no time simply grabbing a plate and finding an empty table to eat at. For the most part, people simply avoided him. Though, wether that was simply because they didn't know him or rather because they didn't like him, Gall wasn't sure. Both options seemed plausible.

So, Ingall simply sat back and watched, eyes cautiously taking everything in. About five minutes into this, however, someone approached, smiling sheepishly.

"Hi, can I sit here?" Ingall recognized the person vaugly, he was fairly sure that they lived here, but they hadn't talked before, he didn't think. He nodded and the other sat down. "Um, I'm Sol. Nice to meet you."

"Ingall." He replied quietly, pretending not to see the hand that Sol extended. "Nice to meet you too."

Sol seemed to pause for a moment before dropping his hand and smiling slightly.

"Um, you're kind of new, right?"

Gall nodded slowly, avoiding eye-contact. "Kind of."

"Well... welcome?" They sounded rather uncertain as they spoke. "How do you like it so far."

Ingall hesitated. "It's... nice." In all honesty, it was all he could think to say. Social situations were the worst kind of situations in his opinion, he was always awkward and driving people away.

Silence lapsed for a moment before Sol cleared his throat. "Well, uh, are you doing anything today?"

"I don't know yet." He replied, nudging his food with his fork. "Maybe I'll help with cleaning or something."

"Oh... fun!" There was forced enthusiasm in Sol's voice and Ingall's chest tightened with anxiety. "I'm not sure what I'm doing either."

Ingall nodded once more and silence fell again. God, why did he suck at this so much?!

Sol ‘Sunny’ Loyal Clie | Genderfluid | 28 | A- | Demi-Andro | Ambi | Astral Projection | M: Ingall, Venus, Kano (Dir/Ind.)

After they reached the kitchen, Kano branched off to go talk to some friends, leaving Sol alone to get food and find a place to sit. Out of the corner of his eyes, familiar red eyes peered, and, when they looked over, Venus waved happily. Sol quickened his pace and headed to the first table without a crowd of people he could find.

One other person was sitting there already, golden hair drawn over his shoulder in a braid. Sol thought he may have seen him before, just briefly when they were walking around the base, but they'd never interacted before.

"Hi, can I sit here?" The other looked slightly startled and looked up, nodding slightly. Sol smiled and sat, extending a hand as they did so. "Um, I'm Sol. Nice to meet you."

The other cast his eyes down, not accepting his hand as he spoke.

"Ingall. Nice to meet you too."

Okay, so not a social butterfly then, that was fine.

"Um, you're kind of new, right?"

Another slow nod. "Kind of."

"Well... welcome? How do you like it so far."

Ingall hesitated and, for a moment, Sol wondered if he'd said something wrong before the other finally answered. "It's... nice."

Silence lapsed and Sol cringed inwardly as the air filled with uncomfortable tension before they finally cleared their throat in an attempt to break it.

"Well, uh, are you doing anything today?"

"I don't know yet. Maybe I'll help with cleaning or something."

"Oh... fun! I'm not sure what I'm doing either." They really did try to sound enthusiastic, but it didn't work too well, and, as silence fell again, Sol could see Venus standing a few feet away, grinning mockingly and crossing his arms. He was enjoying this.

Of course he was.

Nico ‘Niki’ Cosmos | Agender | 24 | O- | Queer | Ambi | Sound Manipulation | M: River, Adiar, Garvin, Akira, Briar (Dir/Ind.)

By the time everyone had finished breakfast and made their way down to the rebellion base (which was quite literally only a block away from the small apartment the three shared), the clock read 7:10.

Adiar split off at the entrance of the building to talk to one of the guards, a man whom he'd befriended a few weeks back, and River and Nico went ahead, walking straight to the kitchen where most of those who lived in the base would be gathering for breakfast.

Sure enough, activity had already started up and people were forming small groups around tables. River's friend, Coda, caught the two of them first, grinning widely as he threw a long arm over River's shoulders.

Nico watched in mild amusement as a soft pink dusted Riv's cheeks at the gesture, even though they quickly threw Coda off and huffed in feigned annoyance. Still, the way River looked at the other man was very much the same way they looked at Nico, and a twang of sadness ran through them at the reminder that, no matter how River felt, they wouldn't be asking anyone for anything. At least, not while they were with Adiar.

However, Nico's attention was redirected when a quick scan of the room had them finding both Garvin and Akira walking in, and, with a quick "Oh, I found some friends, love you, bye!" thrown in River's direction, she ran directly into Akira, who stumbled back before catching them both.

"Ri! Vinny!" As soon as Akira let her go, they threw themselves at Garvin, squeezing for a moment before stepping back. "I missed you two! How are you? Oh, guess what?! Adiar said he doesn't have anything for me to do today, so I can tag along with you all and B! Awesome, right? I never get to do that!"

They talked quickly, but, as he did so, she also analyzed his friends. Akira looked normal, if not a little more tense than usual, but Garvin? He looked... slightly off.

Nothing big or dramatic, just slightly off. In a way that Nico couldn't quite place.

"Hey, Garvy? You good?"

But before the other could answer, Akira spoke, laughing slightly. "We haven't had breakfast yet, Niki! We're both still wakin' up, hm? How 'bout ya come sit with us, k? We can talk plans."

Nico narrowed their eyes thoughtfully for a second before beaming again and nodding excitedly. Right, not having food could definitely make people a little off! Especially Garvin. And that could explain the slight tension in Akira's shoulders!

So then, nothing to worry about! Just get everyone fed and they'd be good as always!

With that thought in mind, Nico grabbed Garvin's arm in one hand and Akira's in the other and started tugging them toward the food area, humming happily as she did so.

The perfect day must continue!

*~*~*~*

The walk to get food from the kitchen wasn’t long, he was pretty sure it never was here. The room he was in was close to it. Which was great. Still, the walk was routine and the hallway seemed quiet. Something he would’ve thought would be good for his headache but turns out it was not, because the pressure just kept on growing behind his eyes. Which, that had to be a hangover then. Right? He was just still dealing with it because he hadn’t actually finished that bottle he’d gotten out.

--

Watcha think we'll be doin' today? Rather, what're ya hopin' for?

--

He was in the kitchen now. Was the walk that short? He knew it wasn’t long but… And Amber had said something. Had he answered? What did they even say? It was probably fine, whatever they’d said they obviously hadn’t tried again. Which meant it was fine. By the time his focus dragged in again, his eyes caught sight of Lilt running over towards him and Thistle. As they basically ran into Aki, he let his gaze drift off, words barely reaching him as he took a second to close his eyes to get rid of some of the pressure. Which didn’t work, because of course it didn’t. Something like that was too much to ask, obviously.

--

Ri! Vinny!

--

His eyes snapped back open as something wrapped around him, a flash of something, and he looked down to see Tweet hugging him. After a moment of drifting focus, he noticed he was lightly patting their back in return, and then Clef was stepping back and talking, words only half reaching him. He didn’t try to keep her, he wasn’t all that sure why they’d hugged him to begin with anyways.

--

I missed you two! How are you? Oh, guess what?! Adiar said he doesn't have anything for me to do today, so I can tag along with you all and B! Awesome, right? I never get to do that!

--

He managed to raise an eyebrow, and he was pretty sure he’d given a slight laugh somewhere there but he couldn’t really tell. Maybe he was even about to say something, but Starry beat him to it for once. Which was fine, his voice wasn’t… The words took a second to actually take in.

--

Hey, Garvy? You good?

--

Confusion tugged at him a bit, and he felt himself blink. She was looking right at him, but they… He felt himself, through what felt like mud, begin to answer as though he was the one being asked, only for Cassy to beat him to it. Which, was that just going to be how today went? He wasn’t sure it really mattered. It was fine, probably, they might just have gotten near the limit of dealing with him. Shit, should he be looking into when he could leave? He wasn’t sure, he didn’t really care, it was probably fine.

--

We haven't had breakfast yet, Niki! We're both still wakin' up, hm? How 'bout ya come sit with us, k? We can talk plans.

--

Blinking back to the half focus he seemed stuck in, he half felt as he was pulled forward towards the food by Tune, which was easy enough to follow along with. Anything that got him closer to food was good anyways. And as soon as he realized he was close enough to grab a plate, he watched as he did just that with— Were his hands still shaking? He couldn’t really feel them either still. But he’d managed with the bottle earlier, so it was probably fine. He wasn’t one to drop food most of the time anyways, and it probably just seemed worse to him because it was his hand. So it didn’t really matter, everything was just fine.

--

Finding himself looking at Plum and Star, he heard himself ask, tone full of its usual casual amusement, “Where we sittin’, Pavo? Since ya wanna pull us ‘round an’ all.

Simon ‘Cye’ Omiros Stewart | M | 25 | A+ | Ace-Recipo/Ambi | Deceit | Mentions; Ingall, Sol (Ind/Dir)

*~*~*~*

The walk to the kitchen wasn’t too long, though Simon took the time it gave him to try and take in every detail he could. How many rooms there were, the numbers on each one to differentiate them so people would remember which was their own. Every little decoration in the hall, which admittedly wasn’t much at all, just a lone dresser in the middle that he’d been planning on looking through since he got here. And if all went right today, he finally would. But otherwise, the walkway was empty and there wasn’t much too notice that he hadn’t already taken in. The layout of the base was simple enough that he hadn’t needed more than two days to get used to it. Really, he needed to see more of the guards, more of what actual combat the rebellion had. That, and the actual plans. He had to see if they were smart, he had to see if they were desperate. Most people he’d been around so far here seemed to check off at least one of those boxes though, so he wasn’t too worried. But if the overall rebellion didn’t check off both boxes, this whole time would've been a waste. The arena wouldn’t help a rebellion destined to fail, but a rebellion that wasn’t desperate was also less likely to accept help from the arena.

--

Holding back a sigh, he stepped into the kitchen and glanced around. Immediately, he spotted Ingall sitting with someone else that he knew for a fact that his roommate hadn’t sat with before. Or interacted with at all, really. Someone that while he recognized from around the base, he also hadn’t interacted with yet. Still, for the moment, Simon simply went and grabbed a plate. He wasn’t exactly hungry but not eating while he was in here observing everyone would make him seem suspicious. Which he did not want.

--

Sitting along would also look strange though. So, with that in mind and a plate of food in hand, he made his way over to where Ingall was sitting. He hadn’t met the person sitting with him yet and that made it not only a kind choice, as the two seemed to be failing miserably at existing at the same table, but also a productive one. One that would allow him to keep to his schedule.

--

So, sitting nearby enough to count as sitting with them but far enough that he wasn’t invading anyone’s personal space, he nodded to Ingall in greeting as he spoke, working through the conversation with as much grace as he could manage. First impressions were important, even when he didn’t mean half the words he was saying. “Hello and good morning, hopefully you don’t mind me taking a seat here, Ingall.

--

Simon paused for a moment, and glanced at the other person. Pale skin, chestnut hair, gray eyes, shorter than he was if he had to guess, and dark bags underneath the eyes… Probably best to tread carefully, stay polite and seem open. Probably checked off at least one of the boxes. He smiled, “And I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Simon, it’s a pleasure to meet you.

Akira ‘Kira’ Casimir Toivo | NB | 21 | B- | Demi-Omni | Ambi | Strategize | M: Garvin, Nico (Dir.)

Akira followed Nico easily, grabbing a plate as they reached the food. With slightly narrowed eyes, they glanced over at Garvin, who, in all honesty, was starting to actually worry them. Not that they would say anything because, again, talking tended to make things worse in Aki's experience, but it was increasingly obvious that something was wrong. The belated reactions, the slight shaking, and the general distance in his eyes were definitely not good, and Nico was picking up on it too, judging by the way he examined Garvin as he grabbed a plate.

Where we sittin’, Pavo? Since ya wanna pull us ‘round an’ all.

Garvin's tone was casually amused, as usual, but Akira only just managed to keep from tensing. Pavo. Another constellation nickname. That made three in a very short period of time. Not good.

Nico continued to grin, but Kira noted the slight flash of worry in their eyes. Of course, to Nico, the nickname had only been used once, so it wasn't an immediate red flag... except that it might be paired with everything else.

"Dunno! Let's just go over here, there's an empty table!"

The smaller started walking again, slowing his pace ever so slightly this time. As they sat down, her blue eyes fixated on Garvin, watching his movements with a calculated look that Kira only really saw on their friend when he was working. Double not good.

"So, what're the plans today? Anything specific, Vinny?" Nico's tone remained light, but Kira faltered slightly at the very faint warning underlying his words. It was distant enough that you wouldn't notice it unless you were paying immense attention, but Akira picked it up easier after knowing their friend for so long. It was a tone saved specifically for when someone Nico cared about was hurting and was either hiding it completely or trying to downplay it. Which, in all honesty, was more than common within their little circle. That said, Nico was easily the best at figuring out everyone else's emotions and subtly calling them out while also managing to be absolutely terrifying in their accuracy and overwhelming affection. It was a different kind of terrifying than the overprotectiveness of Akira themselves or Briar, but, in their opinion, Nico was far worse because everything was focused solely on emotion and dragged out with such careful precision that it made Akira question if Nico was lying about their sound power and instead had a more emotion-based version of their own power. "Going out to town? A bar, maybe?"

Akira choked out a chuckle and sat down quickly. "Town sounds great! Don' know if we got anything specific or not though."

Their attempt to redirect Nico's attention failed miserably as their friend simply flashed a quick smile and nodded slightly before turning back to Garvin with a slightly raised eyebrow, obviously waiting for his response instead.

Well, shit.

Too late now, Nico had reached her "something's wrong with my friend and I won't give up until I get some sort of information or they feel better" stage. Which basically meant there was nothing Aki could do.

Ingall ‘Angel’ Dara Featherlight | Male | 22 | B- | Demi-Pan | Ambi | Enticing Voice | M: Sol, Simon (Dir.)

For several minutes, the tense silence dragged on, and, with each passing second, Ingall grew more and more uncomfortable, shifting anxiously in his seat as Sol's eyes seemed to fixate on something in the difference.

Hello and good morning, hopefully you don’t mind me taking a seat here, Ingall.

At first, Ingall flinched at the voice, but as recognition settled in, he actually relaxed a little, looking up and smiling faintly at Simon.

"Not at all." The words were breathed out, almost a sigh of relief as Simon smiled.

And I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Simon, it’s a pleasure to meet you.

Sol's gray eyes snapped over and he smiled slightly in return. "Sol, nice to meet you as well. How are you this morning?"

Glad that a conversation seemed to be starting up, and even more relieved that the conversation didn't really involve him, Ingall allowed his shoulders to drop and started to eat, staying quiet and just listening.

Sol ‘Sunny’ Loyal Clie | Genderfluid | 28 | A- | Demi-Andro | Ambi | Astral Projection | M: Ingall, Simon, Venus (Dir/Ind.)

As the silence stretched, Venus seemed to get more and more amused, eventually approaching and leaning against Sol's chair, grinning widely. "You're good at this people thing, aren't ya?"

Sol tensed but stayed silent, glaring angrily at Venus, trying to will him to leave. Of course, he didn't listen. He never did.

"I mean, you wonder why you don't have more friends, but you suck at anything remotely social. Hell, you only met Kano because you're both completely insane and they took pity on you. Kind of sad, isn't it?"

Sol's eyes narrowed, hands clenching in their lap.

"Hey, you know it's true! Look at Ingall! Poor guy's obviously uncomfortable, you scared him! Just like you scare everyone else away." He chuckled, red eyes flashing. "So, so sad. Pathetic little you, y-"

And I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Simon, it’s a pleasure to meet you.

Sol's eyes snapped over as they processed a new voice. They hadn't even seen the guy approaching. Had he said something else? Did Sol miss something?

Hoping that he didn't, they smiled slightly and dipped his head in greeting. "Sol, nice to meet you as well. How are you this morning?"

Hopefully, that sufficed, because if it didn't, Sol had probably managed to fuck up another potential friendship. Wonderful.

They shot another quick glare toward Venus who just shrugged before slinking back to watch from a distance again.

God, this day was going just great already.

Nico ‘Niki’ Cosmos | Agender | 24 | O- | Queer | Ambi | Sound Manipulation | M: Adiar, Garvin, Akira (Dir/Ind.)

As they reached the food, Nico watched as Garvin reached out to grab a plat, and-

Wait, was he shaking?

He paused for a moment, taking in the fact that, yeah. He was shaking.

Where we sittin’, Pavo? Since ya wanna pull us ‘round an’ all.

Pavo?

Right, okay. The nickname wasn't bad in and of itself, but something was definitely up. She'd been willing to believe Akira when they said that Garvin being off was just because of lack of food, but a quick glance in their direction offered a slightly worried expression that was more than enough to convince Nico that, yeah, something was really wrong.

So, they brightened their smile and started analyzing, his previous excitement dissolving as worry about her friend took over.

"Dunno! Let's just go over here, there's an empty table!"

They located a table and started toward it, keeping her pace slightly slower than before and making sure both Garvin and Akira were following. It felt slightly wrong considering the fact that she was much shorter than their whole group of friends, but based on the slightly belated reactions of Garvin earlier, a slower pace may be necessary. More time to process.

As she reached the table, Nico took a seat and turned to Garvin, examining him very carefully, keeping a smile on their lips as she did so.

"So, what're the plans today? Anything specific, Vinny? Going out to town? A bar, maybe?"

Now, to be clear, Nico was fully aware that drinking wasn't uncommon for Garvin. Even excessive drinking was a common thing for his friend to partake in, but different reactions could entail different things, and excessive drinking during the day and around friends was easily a more vulnerable state that Nico doubted Garvin would actually enjoy... Unless, perhaps, the friend happened to be Devery. And specifically wanting to go to Devery's bar could prove worrying in itself. Less because Garvin wanted to go see a friend and more so because of the fact that Devery tended to be an enabler, and being around him in an already bad state would likely end badly.

Across from him, Akira let out a choked chuckle, sitting down heavily and obviously attempting to draw Nico's attention away from Garvin.

"Town sounds great! Don' know if we got anything specific or not though."

Nico flashed a quick nod and smile in Akira's direction as acknowledgment, but quickly returned her attention to Garvin, hearing a soft breath from Kira as he did so.

Wonderful, they thought. That reaction absolutely confirms that something's going on.

Waiting for an answer was boring, he decided as his gaze drifted again with his focus. He should probably be looking at them, finding out why neither of them were speaking, trying to find out if it was about time for him to get moving again. Isn’t that what he usually did? Did that matter though? It was fine. It wasn’t like it’d really change anything.

--

Dunno! Let’s just go over here, there’s an empty table!

--

Lyra was already walking again by the time his focus rolled back around, and he wasn’t sure if he’d replied to what she’d said or not. He wasn’t willing to answer and end up replying twice if he had though. It was fine. He watched through the fog as he fell into step with them. He really should’ve finished that bottle before waking Kate. It wouldn’t have taken that long and he might’ve managed to get rid of this hangover like that. Star was sitting now, looking right at him again and mouth moving to speak. The words half sunk in as he sat down, barely noticing he’d done so.

--

So, what’re the plans today? Anything specific, Vinny? Going out to town? A bar, maybe?

--

Key was sitting down too, and his focus drifted for a moment, as if he’d blinked for too long though he wasn’t sure if he actually had or not. He needed a damn smoke or something. But no, stupid rules to keep people safe or whatever. Lilt was asking about plans though, and… Did he have any? The tone seemed a bit off. He couldn’t place it. It was probably fine. Kira was answering already anyways, their tone just as off. He couldn’t… He blinked for a second, he was fine. Putting together what was happening shouldn’t be that hard. But he was fine, so there wasn’t anything to actually worry about. It was fine.

--

Town sounds great! Don’ know if we got anything specific or not though.

--

Cash seemed so forced though. He wasn’t sure what was actually going on. He drifted, he should be paying attention. He barely heard a half chuckle from himself, and drifting back in made him notice his shrug. He was fine. Clef was still looking at him though. It barely reached him as he spoke, voice far away in his own ears but the tone the same as it always was. “Either’s fine by me, Coco, we’d find somethin’ ta do anywhere.

Not at all.

Ingall’s answer, while completely unnecessary for Simon since he’d be staying either way, was at least nice so that he wasn’t coming across as rude to the person he hadn’t yet met. Formally met, at least. Which, speaking of the other person, their gray eyes seemed to spark with realization and snapped over to look at him. And then they were smiling at him, head dipping in greeting.

--

Sol, nice to meet you as well. How are you this morning?

--

Immediately, Simon had to bite his tongue for a second, squashing whatever urges there were. A second ticked by, and then he spoke, keeping himself in line with how conversations were supposed to flow. No rambling, just the necessary information with enough tidbits left so that a conversation could be picked up on whatever was decidedly interesting. And, of course, the specific question Sol asked had a correct answer. Which made it all the easier to follow.

--

Keeping the polite smile on his face, Simon kept his voice smooth and soft but otherwise impassive. Friendly tone didn’t really matter, the voice sounding nice would make up for that. “I’m doing alright, thank you.” A slight pause, just enough to seem natural even with the words already lined up in his head. “Though, admittedly, the morning’s barely started so far. Hopefully it doesn’t change for the worse though, hm?” Another pause, just to make the topics seem slightly separated and natural. “How about you, Sol? How has the morning been treating you so far?

Akira ‘Kira’ Casimir Toivo | NB | 21 | B- | Demi-Omni | Ambi | Strategize | M: Garvin, Nico (Dir.)

Either’s fine by me, Coco, we’d find somethin’ ta do anywhere.

And there it was again, another nickname that Garvin tended to use more frequently when he wasn't doing well. Just perfect.

Nico picked up on this too, smile faltering slightly for a brief moment before returning. "Right, I suppose that's true! We always do manage to find things to do, I'd say it's a skill of ours! You're sure you're feeling okay though, Vinny? You need anything?"

And there was the more forward approach. As if that ever worked for someone like Garvin, or, admittedly, themselves. Akira just hummed softly and started eating. At this point, there wasn't really much they could do for either side other than just go along with everything and hope for the best.

Nico was ridiculously stubborn when it came to their friends and Garvin was equally as stubborn when it came to actually talking about his emotions. Though, perhaps stubborn wasn't the correct word, just was just... distant somehow. To the point where Akira wasn't even completely sure he knew how he felt. And, therefore, Nico and Garvin could be unintentionally frustrating in times like these, and Akira was left with a mixture of confusion, worry, and, as mentioned, mild annoyance at the stubborn but friendly nature of both of their friends.

Then again, at least there was a close to guarantee that there wouldn't be an actual argument about anything, so Kira couldn't complain too much.

Sol ‘Sunny’ Loyal Clie | Genderfluid | 28 | A- | Demi-Andro | Ambi | Astral Projection | M: Ingall, Simon, Venus, Kano (Dir/Ind.)

I’m doing alright, thank you. Though, admittedly, the morning’s barely started so far. Hopefully it doesn’t change for the worse though, hm? How about you, Sol? How has the morning been treating you so far?”

Sol smiled faintly in response to Simon, their scattered brain taking in a moment to fully absorb everything before offering an actual answer. It didn't help that someone, or, maybe, something had decided to start making an awful tapping noise behind him. Though, based on the reactions (or lack of reactions) of those around them, Sol figured it must be only them that could actually hear anything.

Thanks, stupid power.

"That's true. It's been alright so far, mostly quiet."

Or, as quiet as their mornings could possibly be with the dead running around and speaking to him constantly.

"Hey, Sol!" Their head snapped up at the familiar voice, and the start of a smile tugged on his lips as Kano approached, leaning on the back of his chair as they started speaking. "You disappeared on me, had me worried for a minute!"

"Sorry, Kano." They offered sheepishly, earning an affectionate eye roll.

"It's fine. I'm gathering my group, we're going to have a quick meeting to discuss procedures for the assignment today. You want to come or are you good on your own for a bit." They paused, seeming to just now take in Simon and Ingall fully. "Or, rather, are you good with these people for a bit? Hey, I'm Kano, by the way, pleasure."

Sol snickered. "I'll be fine, Kano, thank you."

"Sure." They ruffled Sol's hair and leaned over to grab a piece of fruit from their plate, smirking at the half-glare Sol sent them in response.

Nico ‘Niki’ Cosmos | Agender | 24 | O- | Queer | Ambi | Sound Manipulation | M: Garvin, Akira (Dir.)

Either’s fine by me, Coco, we’d find somethin’ ta do anywhere.

And, for just a moment, Nico's smile faltered. The nickname was just further confirmation that something was off, and it was starting to really bother him. Especially considering Garvin wasn't actually giving her much to work with.

How the hell were they supposed to help when he didn't even know what was wrong?!

Still, they brought the smile back up quickly.

"Right, I suppose that's true! We always do manage to find things to do, I'd say it's a skill of ours! You're sure you're feeling okay though, Vinny? You need anything?"

They kept their tone light, but a soft humming from Akira beside him as they looked away and dug into their food was a clear indicator that they knew what was going on (or, rather, what was about to go on), and they wanted to avoid it.

Probably because they knew that Nico would keep pushing and Garvin was unlikely to give in. Even if it took all day. Or all week for that matter.

Well then. A little game of 'tell me what's wrong so I can fix it... You can't avoid me!' if you will.

How fun!

The morning was not on his side, apparently, as his focus slipped again for a moment. But it was fine. He half noticed he’d started eating already, far away and head pounding. Which was probably annoying, sure. But it was fine, he didn’t care. Not really. His focus drifted, he thought he saw Tweet’s smile drop for a moment, but he wasn’t sure. Not like that mattered much anyways, he just needed to start looking soon. Probably. Besides, his own grin was still fine. So there wasn’t much to worry about. When his focus drifted back in, Tune’s voice reached his ears and half sunk in.

--

Right, I suppose that's true! We always do manage to find things to do, I'd say it's a skill of ours! You're sure you're feeling okay though, Vinny? You need anything?

Lilt was still looking at him, and distantly he felt a pang of confusion, tugging at him and trying to get him to focus. At least enough to figure out why. And distantly, he was fairly sure he blinked a few times too trying to figure it out, whatever it was. He wasn’t sure what he was even confused about though, and it faded when his focus drifted again to the sound of Cass humming somewhere in the background anyways. So it was probably fine. Still, he heard himself give a half amused chuckle somewhere, and through muddy waters saw him casually waving off Starry’s words, his voice barely heard over the distance. “‘M fine, Lyra, jus’ hungover.

For a moment, Simon didn’t receive an answer from Sol, which gave him the moment necessary to begin to eat, careful to not eat too quickly. Or too slowly. Food was nice, and he’d prefer to savor it, but he also was aware of what the socially acceptable amount of time spent on different activities was. And while most people in the rebellion didn’t seem to meet those basic standards, he knew better than to give them the idea that he didn’t either. After all, a lot of them also seemed rather hypocritical, holding others to standards that they themselves didn’t even meet.

--

That's true. It's been alright so far, mostly quiet.

--

Simon glanced up at Sol, nodding in agreement and dedicating himself to finishing the food in his mouth before speaking. Only to notice someone coming towards them, and upon a few seconds of a decision, Simon slowed down a bit to allow the other to get here first and speak. Sol wouldn’t notice, not with what he could already tell of them.

--

Hey, Sol! You disappeared on me, had me worried for a minute!

--

And, in fact, Sol hadn’t even seemed to notice the other person approaching, if the way their head snapped up was any indication. Watching and listening carefully, Simon busied himself with his food.

--

Sorry, Kano.

--

Kano then was the other person. Simon did a once over as discreetly as he could manage, taking in whatever he could that might be important. Greenish bluish hair, blue eyes. A bit more put together than Sol seemed to be, at least when it came to the surface level. The box they checked off was to be seen then, though with how many people seemed to only check off the desperate box… Simon wasn’t sure if he should bother with being thorough with just one that couldn’t be figured out within one conversation. Especially since Kano obviously knew Sol, who seemed to easily fit into the desperate category themself.

--

It's fine. I'm gathering my group, we're going to have a quick meeting to discuss procedures for the assignment today. You want to come or are you good on your own for a bit. Or, rather, are you good with these people for a bit? Hey, I'm Kano, by the way, pleasure.

--

Simon glanced back up, nodding in Kano’s direction in greeting as Sol snickered. The two were certainly close.

--

I'll be fine, Kano, thank you.

--

Sure.

--

Keeping his posture casual was admittedly not as easy as it usually was. People here seemed to either adore physical contact or despise it. The hair ruffling was odd to witness, at least from this close. He wasn’t exactly used to seeing it. Affection wasn't common at the arena, it meant weakness, it meant vulnerability, and Simon was neither of those things. Seeing it up close, those were his first thoughts. The second was aimed towards the half glare from having food stolen. A bit more common to see, but never as affectionate as Sol had done it. Still, he smiled in the only correct response to the situation.

--

Then, he offered a response to Kano’s introduction. “It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Kano. I’m Simon.” At the very least Kano seemed more socially aware than Sol did, which meant leading the conversation wouldn’t be as difficult. Or important. “Hopefully your morning has been treating you well.

Akira ‘Kira’ Casimir Toivo | NB | 21 | B- | Demi-Omni | Ambi | Strategize | M: Garvin, Nico (Dir.)

‘M fine, Lyra, jus’ hungover.

Nico huffed softly at that, crossing her arms. The gesture seemed more playful than annoyed though and Akira raised a questioning eyebrow as they observed.

"Fine, fine. Hey, how do you two feel about ice skating? It's been a while since I've been on the ice, I miss it. There's a rink not too far, wanna come?"

Kira paused at that glancing up again. That was a record for the fastest time Nico gave up on trying to drag whatever was going on out of someone. Which could either mean she recognized that Garvin wasn't going to give anything up (which Akira found unlikely) or something was wrong with Nico too.

Considering the fact that Nico was talking about ice skating, which wasn't something he had ever talked about before, as far as Aki knew, it was probably the latter.

Except that nothing seemed wrong with Nico. As Akira looked at them, their blue eyes still held that same, determined spark as before and her expression hadn't shifted from his normal, energetic smile.

Perfect, even more confusion. Just what Akira needed first thing in the morning.

"Never tried it before, but sure."

Their words came out slightly more jumbled than usual, probably because their brain was working overtime to piece everything together.

Nico beamed.

"Amazing! What about you, Garvy?"

Sol ‘Sunny’ Loyal Clie | Genderfluid | 28 | A- | Demi-Andro | Ambi | Astral Projection | M: Ingall, Simon, Venus, Kano (Dir/Ind.)

"It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Kano. I’m Simon. Hopefully your morning has been treating you well.”

Sol looked back at Simon when he spoke, smiling slightly as Kano rested their hand on his shoulder, still leaning over the back of the chair.

"Eh, been better, been worse. You know how it is. How're you though? And, more importantly, whatcha gonna do with my Sol?" Their expression soured slightly and Sol rolled their eyes. "I don't trust easy when it comes to him, hm? But then," They waved a hand in the air. "I suppose I can always deal with everything later if you fuck something up."

"Kano! Be nice, you'll scare everyone away!" Sol protested, shoving Kano's hand away from their shoulder.

'Nah, you do that enough yourself.'

"Whatever, asshole." Sol huffed, crossing his arms over their chest and pouting slightly, ignoring the pang of guilt and pain running through his chest. Kano's eyebrows furrowed.

"What? I didn't say anything."

Sol paused blinking a few times before smiling sheepishly. "Oh, sorry, I thought I heard something."

Kano's lips pressed together and Sol became painfully aware of the fact that even Ingall, who had been sitting silently since Simon arrived was now watching them.

"Ya sure you don't want to tag along with me today, Sunshine? There's plenty of room for you."

"No, no, I'm fine! Don't worry."

Kano sighed and shrugged, shifting to mimic their earlier position leaning against the chair. "Alright, fine. Just don't forget Rosemary. Anyway, Simon and... what was your name? Sorry, I don't think I caught it."

Ingall fidgeted slightly and looked away before speaking quietly. "Ingall..."

"Ingall. Nice to meet you both. You two got plans for today?"

They smiled and Sol relaxed again, grateful to have Kano around to catch and make up for mistakes.

"They won't always be there though, will they?" Venus murmured stepping forward to kneel next to Sol casually, looking up at them with big, red eyes. "They'll leave. Or die. Just like everyone else. Who knows, we might even be lucky enough to get a replay of last time!"

He laughed and Sol froze, blood running cold as a familiar image danced around them hauntingly.

"Too bad we have to wait. Waiting's no fun."

Venus pouted and Sol drew in a deep breath, turning their eyes away to focus on Simon again, forcing a smile.

God, they wished Venus would just move on already! He certainly didn't belong as a grounded, after all. No, he belonged in the deepest part of hell.

Nico ‘Niki’ Cosmos | Agender | 24 | O- | Queer | Ambi | Sound Manipulation | M: Garvin, Akira (Dir.)

‘M fine, Lyra, jus’ hungover.

Lyra again, hm?

Nico huffed quietly and crossed their arms, debating. His usual, go-to strategies weren't working, so it was time to get creative. Perhaps an activity of some sort, something they could do together... Got it!

"Fine, fine. Hey, how do you two feel about ice skating? It's been a while since I've been on the ice, I miss it. There's a rink not too far, wanna come?"

The idea of being able to share something so special with close friends sounded amazing to Nico, so, honestly, he really hoped Garvin and Akira would agree, even if it didn't end up helping. Though, of course, she hoped that it would help.

Obviously.

"Never tried it before, but sure."

Akira's response was rather slow, but, when Nico turned to make sure they were alright, all they found were a pair of sleep-drugged amber eyes watching them in mild confusion.

She beamed and turned back to Garvin excitedly.

"Amazing! What about you, Garvy?"

*~*~*~*

Fine, fine. Hey, how do you two feel about ice skating? It’s been a while since I’ve been on the ice, I miss it. There’s a rink not too far, wanna come?

--

He blinked back to himself as Tweet spoke again, voice reaching him a bit more. He wasn’t… What even was ice skating? Though… Did it actually matter what it was? He wasn’t sure. He somehow doubted it. Clef seemed happy enough with the idea anyways, which meant it couldn’t be too bad. So it was fine. Blinking a bit more, trying to keep what little focus he had managed to get back, he made out Kate’s voice answering Tune’s question.

--

Never tried it before, but sure.

--

It seemed slow, he couldn’t figure out why. It wasn’t sticking. His head was pounding. Which, other than being incredibly annoying, was fine. He really should be listening. Or trying to find out why Thistle and Star both seemed so… Off. He wasn’t too sure why he wasn’t doing that. He couldn't focus enough, apparently. Everything was just a bit too blurred for him to do so…

--

Amazing! What about you, Garvy?

--

…He blinked open his eyes to find Starry looking at him. Again. What was… He was supposed to be answering something. Or… He blinked, trying to get rid of some of the pressure behind his eyes without bothering either of the people he was sitting with. He wasn’t sure what he’d been asked… Had he been asked something? Pavo was looking at him as if he had been.

--

It was fine. Probably. He made sure to keep his grin up, casual and just like it should be, and give a half shrug. Agreeing to whatever had been said was probably a safe bet. So, making an effort to keep his voice level, to fit with the rest of what he’d done, he pushed out a simple, “Mmm, sure, why not?

Simon ‘Cye’ Omiros Stewart | M | 25 | A+ | Ace-Recipo/Ambi | Deceit | Mentions; Ingall, Sol, Kano (Ind/Dir)

*~*~*~*

Simon watched the two carefully, the easy smile Sol had and Kano leaning over the back of the chair with a hand on Sol’s shoulder. The two were definitely close. Which was certainly going to be something to remember.

--

Eh, been better, been worse. You know how it is. How’re you though? And, more importantly, whatcha gonna do with my Sol?

--

Simon raised an eyebrow, filing the wording away. Potentially possessive, so the two were either in a relationship or had some sort of dependency with each other. Or both. Simon was willing to bet it was that last option. Especially with the souring of Kano’s expression. Still, he kept a polite smile on his own features. There was no reason to alert them that he knew or was bothered, after all.

--

I don’t trust easy when it comes to him, hm? But then, I suppose I can always deal with everything later if you fuck something up.

--

Certainly a dependency, at least. One that was eagerly dismissed, ignored, and tried not to be acknowledged too. The easiest kind to exploit if he needed to. Which was nice, at least. Something he could fall back on if nothing else. Kano especially would be easy targeting. Simon was glad for that, if nothing else. Smiling was a bit easier.

--

Kano! Be nice, you’ll scare everyone away!

--

Sol had finally pushed away Kano’s hand. Simon watched carefully. A second of silence, and then Sol huffed. As if responding to something. Some sort of outside stimuli. A second longer, and Sol was speaking, talking to Kano, as if the other had said something. They were pouting as they spoke, and Kano was obviously just as confused.

--

Whatever, asshole.

--

What? I didn’t say anything.

--

Oh, sorry, I thought I heard something.

--

Simon kept from narrowing his eyes. Sol was just getting easier and easier then. He made sure his smile was still polite, not the grin he actually felt like portraying. After all, Sol’s behaviors made a bit more sense now. People with hallucinations weren’t too uncommon for Simon to meet, and they were always good news for him. These two would be good to hang around, to observe and remember for his report to the arena. Especially if they met the boxes on his checklist.

--

So, as Kano’s expression shifted to worry and even Ingall looked over to watch Sol… Simon instead offered a kind, as non-judgmental as possible, polite smile to them. If there was one common thread to start on, it was that none of them liked to be seen as crazy. Or watched as if there was something wrong. Playing along was something Simon was very good at, so he didn’t mind all that much. Not really, at least.

--

Ya sure you don’t want to tag along with me today, Sunshine? There’s plenty of room for you.

--

No, no, I’m fine! Don’t worry.

--

The speed of the reply was all too promising as well. And Kano’s response was just as well, shrugging and sighing and trying to be nonchalant. These two were certainly good news for him.

--

Alright, fine. Just don’t forget Rosemary. Anyway, Simon and… what was your name? Sorry, I don’t think I caught it.

--

Ingall…

--

Rosemary… Simon filed the name away for later, and glanced at Ingall subtly as Kano brought him up. As expected, his roommate was not actually interested in talking and looked away as if he’d been caught doing something he wasn’t supposed to. For example, watching someone who didn’t want to be seen as crazy because he thought just that about them. Social cues seemed to miss quite a few people. Though, then again, Simon had always been better at people than most.

--

Ingall. Nice to meet you both. You two got plans for today?

--

Simon smiled softly, and gave a simple half shrug, gesturing casually with his hand to further underline his words. Keeping his tone casual, he spoke concisely, each word picked out ahead of time to make sure it all flowed nice and neat. Ingall was probably cleaning, and keeping him around as well as Sol was the best choice as of now. After all, having his roommate around was a simple tactic for the trust of everyone. And with what he knew of Sol, he’d prefer to keep them closer for the moment, at least until he knew more of what all was going on. What he could exploit or twist or manipulate. Plus, not to mention, cleaning would allow him to observe the entire rebellion easier. “Not anything particular yet, but I was thinking about seeing if the cleaning crew here needed any help. Something easy for today, you know?

Akira ‘Kira’ Casimir Toivo | NB | 21 | B- | Demi-Omni | Ambi | Strategize | M: Garvin, Nico (Dir.)

Mmm, sure, why not?

Yet again, Garvin's answer came a little too slowly for Akira's liking, but the way Nico's face lit up completely shoved everything else away and they smiled slightly as Nico practically squealed in excitement.

They must really like skating, huh?

"Yay! Okay, I'm going to text B and see if they wanna join! Oh, I'm so excited! It's been forever since I've been able to skate! And no worries if you haven't before, I can teach you! It'll be fun! A day off from all the actual work and shit, we can just be together! Relax a little! It's gonna be so fun!"

His fingers flew over the phone and they grinned with such genuine excitement that Kira actually found themself letting their own worry fall away as they finished the last of their plate.

"Soun's fun." They mumbled around a mouthful of bacon. "Where'd ya learn ta skate though?"

Nico shrugged, still beaming as they continued typing. "My sister taught me! She used to be a figure skater, a really good one too! She wanted to compete but she never really had that much time to since she was taking care of me." His smile softened a little and Akira frowned. They hadn't known Nico had a sister, she'd never mentioned her before. "But when I was old enough she introduced me to the ice too, she always said that if she wasn't able to compete then teaching was her second favorite option, so I became her first student! It really is fun! You might hurt your ass a little though, it's hard to avoid falling if you've never skated before."

Kira grimaced a little at that but didn't protest. If it made Nico happy then it was bound to be worth it anyway. Besides, they'd dealt with worse than a bruised ass before.

"Okay, Big B's on their way! They'll get here in a few minutes!"

They nodded and allowed themself to smile again. "Cool. Can't wait."

Sol ‘Sunny’ Loyal Clie | Genderfluid | 28 | A- | Demi-Andro | Ambi | Astral Projection | M: Ingall, Simon, Venus, Kano (Dir/Ind.)

Not anything particular yet, but I was thinking about seeing if the cleaning crew here needed any help. Something easy for today, you know?

Sol nodded slightly, mostly just glad the attention was off of them for the time being. Kano smiled easily in response.

"How boring. I suppose someone has to do it though, so enjoy! Alright, I should probably be off, my crew's waiting for me. Bye, everyone!" They leaned down and pressed a swift kiss to Sol's temple before whispering a final reminder. "Don't forget Rosemary. Seriously, Sunshine."

"I got it, Kano! Goodbye!" Sol waved them away quickly, rolling his eyes as Kano smiled slightly and tapped the side of his skull lightly before walking off. After a moment, they turned back to Simon, shifting somewhat nervously. "So, cleaning? I can clean!"

'Damn, you are hopeless in conversation without them, aren't you?' Venus hummed, chuckling as Sol pointedly ignored him. 'What? You know it's true. You say you don't need them, but Kano's your lifeline. It's kind of sad.'

'Hey, asshole, fuck off! They're finally talking to others!' Sol relaxed slightly at the sound of Ginny's voice and Venus scoffed.

'Not well.'

'So what? As long as this person isn't a threat, I hardly give a shit. now get out of here, you're a major annoyance.'

'Whatever. I'll be back.' Venus huffed quietly and slunk off as Ginny replaced Kano in leaning against Sol's chair. Which was definitely more comfortable than Venus being around.

And, either way, Simon seemed unaffected by their little outburst earlier, so, maybe he was safe. And maybe he was a new friend! Sol could definitely use some of those. Savy and Kano were great, but Kano couldn't always be around and Savannah was a ghost, so she would never get any older. And Sol wasn't sure they could really count Rosemary since she was a cat and all. So, yeah, a new friend would be good!

Nico ‘Niki’ Cosmos | Agender | 24 | O- | Queer | Ambi | Sound Manipulation | M: Garvin, Akira, Briar (Ind/Dir.)

Mmm, sure, why not?

A bright grin broke across Nico's face and, for just a second, they forgot why they were actually doing this, just happy that his friends were willing to be introduced to one of her favorite activities.

They pulled out their phone and shot a quick text to Briar.

'Hey, Rose! Me, Vinny, and Oira are going to go ice skating today, want to tag along?'

"Soun's fun. Where'd ya learn ta skate though?"

Nico shrugged at Akira's question, still grinning as Briar's reply came through rather quickly.

'Sure thing! I've never tried it though, I may be total shit!'

'No problem, I'll teach you!'

"My sister taught me! She used to be a figure skater, a really good one too! She wanted to compete but she never really had that much time to since she was taking care of me. But when I was old enough she introduced me to the ice too, she always said that if she wasn't able to compete then teaching was her second favorite option, so I became her first student! It really is fun! You might hurt your ass a little though, it's hard to avoid falling if you've never skated before."

As they finished, a final text from Briar came through and Nico beamed.

'Alright, deal! Be there in a few!'

'Awesome, see you soon!'

"Okay, Big B's on their way! They'll get here in a few minutes!"

Akira nodded and smiled faintly. "Cool. Can't wait."

Perfect! The whole group could hang out and, maybe with a little bit of help, Garvin would actually let slip what was bothering him! Or, if not that, then maybe he'd at least start feeling a little better, and, either way, Nico would be satisfied because all she really wanted in the end was for his friends to be safe and happy.

Briar ‘Bri’ Sallow | NB | 22 | AB+ | Min | Poly | Illusions-Mimic | M: Nico, Garvin, Akira, Destry (Dir/Ind.)

The creature woke up at its usual time, rolling out of its cot and landing easily on its feet. Perhaps the decision to move into the camp was a mistake, many who lived here seemed to believe it was, but, at this point, the creature couldn't care less. After all, the biggest problem it could locate was Destry, who apparently, couldn't leave it be.

This point was proven by it approaching and throwing an arm over the creature's shoulder, grinning as though it thought the creature was its friend.

"Look who's finally up! It thought it was going to wait until noon!"

"Fuck off." Its voice came out as a growl and it shoved Destry's arm away, glaring angrily.

"Oh, come on! What's the problem, Briar?! It's been nothing but good to it for months now!"

The creature scoffed. "Please, it's been nothing but cruel since it first arrived at camp. It's given its answer, it wants nothing to do with the creature Destry."

Destry seemed to flinch slightly and the creature turned away quickly, gritting its teeth as it walked out of the sleeping area. The camp was already alive. Guards and Recruiters were wandering around and food had already been served to the higher-ups. Other creatures slunk around the edges of the camp, avoiding everyone of higher authority.

The creature walked swiftly around the edge of the camp, carefully avoiding the center while Destry followed.

"It's still on that? Really? I'm better now!"

"It's not." The creature hissed, not slowing or looking back. "It will never be. It gave it a chance and it just fucked everything up. It will not be forgiven."

"Please just listen! Moiraine-"

The creature swung around eyes blazing. "It will not speak his name. It does not have the right to even think about him!"

Destry's eyes widened and it took a step back, mumbling a quick apology. The creature watched with narrowed eyes as it slunk away, giving up once again. Then, it sighed, pulling the phone from its pocket as it buzzed.

The faintest of smiles touched its lips as it read the name across the screen and clicked the message.

'Hey, Rose! Me, Vinny, and Oira are going to go ice skating today, want to tag along?'

It responded quickly and without question. The creature had simply been tasked with doing what the rebellion wanted of it. Nico was part of the rebellion, and, therefore, the creature was fulfilling its duty.

'Sure thing! I've never tried it though, I may be total shit!'

'No problem, I'll teach you!'

'Alright, deal! Be there in a few!'

'Awesome, see you soon!'

A quiet chuckle escaped its lips and it shot back the final reply before heading to the exit of the camp, slipping past the guards with its head lowered in silent submission.
