▕▔▔▔▔▔▔▿▔▔▔▔▔▔▏ Burning Embers ▕▁▁▁▁▁▁▵▁▁▁▁▁▁▏ The Kingdom of Ederia is famed for a lot of things, attaining high praise from all those that look upon her. However, there is one thing Ederia is most renowned for: Dragon Riders. The only Kingdom to have come up with a way to tame the legendary beasts, to ride upon their backs as one. It has been like this for decades, perhaps even centuries, few really know. And, together in harmony, Dragons and Humans have lived, creating a proserpous nation. The Dragon Academy of Ederia is like none other, literally there are no others known to the world. A place where young students who have been lucky enough to be chosen by their dragons go to learn to become the most revered role in all of Ederia: Dragon Riders. Few are selected, as dragons are known to be an entirely selective species, but those who are chosen must learn quickly, and that is where the Academy comes in. Exerpienced riders teach the fledgling riders and their dragons how to work together as one, as well as everything the youths will need to know about dragons and what they are up against in the world. It sounds like a beautiful, wonderful place, right? Too bad all good things must come to an end. Jealous nations, wanting to claim the glory for themselves and bring down Ederia have set their sights on destroying the Academy. It was only a matter of time before the succeeded too. One night, the forces of another Kingdom infilitrated the Kingdom, intent on burning it all. And they did. The Academy was destroyed, the cities burned, and it's occupants, the ones who tried to resist and fight back, were slaughtered. In hopes of preserving a little bit of their legacy so that hope would remain, the Leaders of Ederia and the Dragon Riders commanded the students to flee, to survive, to learn. As the battle raged on for Ederia, the students fled, looking back on the carnage behind them, hoping that one day they could come back and restore their beloved Kingdom.

The Rules of the Roleplay
Follow all of WP's and Eve's Rules.
1. Be Active. Sometimes I'm not on for a couple of days, but I expect everyone to be as active as they can for the rp. Unless you are waiting for someone to post, you should be posting.
2. Reservations last 48 hours. You know how I work if they aren't done in time.
3. Finish the characters you post first, before creating new ones.
4. For now, limit of Four characters per person. 2 Rider, 2 Dragon.
5. Semi-Realism and Semi-Literacy are required. Please do not make me explain myself.
6. Dragons are classed solely by their colors and abilities. Stick to their base descriptions for your dragons, and expand from there.
7. The riders are new, they will not be experts at Dragon Riding. Mistakes will be made, and they do not know everything.
8. For now, your dragon and your rider cannot be partners, this it to prevent people from not having others to post with. Please find a pair for your characters prior to the rp starting, if you do not, I will asign them.
9. Ask permission from the Roleplayer if you wish to be their character's partner, however, do not try and force it. There will be someone else out there for you.
10. Try to keep things even with genders, it's much more interesting if things are diverse.
11. LGBTQ+ is welcomed and allowed here.
12. Please put your favorite Dragon movie or book in the other section of your form if you've read everything.
The Academy Rules
1. No romantic relationships while enrolled between students. It's forbidden.
2. Curfew is 9 PM. Dorm checks will be done to confirm students are in their rooms.
3. Opposite Genders are not allowed in the other dorms after 8 Pm.
4. Tardiness is not allowed. If you are late to class more than 3 times, you will receive extra work or chores as punishment.
5. Riding outside of School Grounds Without Permission is Strictly Prohibited for your Safety.
6. Violence among students is not acceptable, unless in a specific class like Sparring.
7. Dragons: Do not eat the students. Please.
8. Students are expectedt o provide and care for their Dragons.
9. Any Students Found Mishandling Dragon Eggs will face Expulsion! (Gregory)

About the Academy The Academy was found by some of the first generations of riders, wanting a streamlined way for new riders to learn and grow safely. It features basic education as well as everything revolving around dragons from care to flight to sparring, and everything in between and beyond.
The Academy is much like modern day college, in the fact that the chosen riders leave home to live on the grounds. Their dragons also live on the grounds in the rookery, though are typically much less happy about it than the humans. The humans are split into two dorms, one for boys and one for boys, and are assigned rooms that they share with two to four people in each room. Each of the dorms have common rooms where the students can relax on down time, and a dining hall for meals, though they aren't always required to eat there.
The Dragon counterparts stay in one of the two rookeries. The first is the top level of the school, carved out and fitted so that each dragon has a little outcropping of space for its nest. It's a very large and open room, and spans much of the building. It has openings on either broadside that the dragons can enter through by flight or glide. There is also a human door that allows the students access as well.
The second rookery is underground, a expanse of cave systems that gives each dragon a bit more privacy than in the first rookery. Each dragon has its own cave, and the nests are all connect by a system of tunnels which then connect to the large main tunnel, which can easily fit multiple dragons in it at once, that leads to the entrance. Ironically, the tunnel entrance itself looks like a cave mouth until one were to venture within it further. It is in one of the caves within this Rookery that dragon eggs are kept when their parents cannot look after them.

Additional Information & First Posts
Setting
It's important to note that this takes place in more medieval times, so no modern day technology, clothing, weaponry, etc.
It's a mild morning, nothing too cold or hot. The sun is out, with only a few clouds dotting the sky. There is a gentle breeze on the air as well. It's early to mid spring right now.
For the Initial Posts
The posts will start at the Choosing Ceremony. It doesn't have a special name, but it's where the dragons come and choose their riders. The choosing day happens once to twice a year, dependent entirely on how many unclaimed dragons arrive at the school throughout the year after sensing their rider. Typically they do it once enough riders graduate to free up space, but they'll do it a second time if there is a flux of unclaimed dragons who enter the school grounds to wait for the next Choosing Day.
For the Choosing Day
All the eligible students will arrive at a great clearing, their futures uncertain. They have no idea if they'll get chosen or not, as the number of humans always greatly out numbers the number of dragons. However, the dragons know their rider is there. There is really no rhyme or reason to how they know, they just do, it's like a feeling, an instinct.
The humans will stay in the clearing until all the dragons have chosen their rider. The instinct within the dragons will lead them to their rider, and when they find them, the mind link with snap into place, something that will be mentally felt automatically by the dragons, but only by the human when the dragon speaks or touches the human for the first time.
The mental link may be painful for some of the humans upon first contact, mental or physical, but it'll pass in short moments. The link will be weak at first, extending only about 10 feet, before it is barely felt. It'll grow in strength over time, until it can remain strong over long distances.
Once a dragon chooses its rider, it may never choose another. A human, though, can be chosen by another dragon if it's were to die. It's weird. No one questions it. The dragons also have no control over who their rider is, they cannot choose someone else simply because they do not like the human meant for them. That isn't how it works.
The "Choosing Place"
Everyone knows about the choosing place, many even know where it is, though it only ever holds the dragons and riders for the ceremony at the specific times for the ceremony. To put it simply, the Choosing Place is a valley that combines the prime terrains for all dragon times. Grassy plains cover most of the center of the valley, dense, heavy forests line the sides of the valley. There is a lake at the back of the valley that butts up against the mountains there, and it is as deep as any and capable of providing a comfortable place for water dragons to reside. Surrounding the entire valley are tall mountains, ideal for earth dragons to climb, while the soil of the entire valley is loose enough for earth dragons, even young ones, to dig through. This allows the dragons to take their riders on their "First Ride" trial, to complete the bond as Dragon and Rider.
About the Attack
As everyone knows, this rp will eventually include the academy and the Kingdom of Ederia getting attacked and basically destroyed. However, this will not occur for another week or so (in the rp, not irl). The characters should not be aware of what is going to happen, so please keep that in mind.
For your Posts
All the posts will be of the characters arriving. Riders arrive as a group, and the dragons will make their entrances as they please, surveying the humans, looking for their own. Dragons might get testy if humans who aren't meant to be theirs try to approach them, and they might get aggressive towards another dragon if they find their human approaching or being approached by another dragon.
For the First Ride Trials
These will not occur the moment the bond is created. Instead, once all dragons have chosen, they will assemble with their riders in the center of the valley. There the riders will mount their dragons for the first time, without the aid of others or any form of saddle. The lack of instruction, knowledge, and assistance is why the first ride is so dangerous: it's so easy to fall off. Once all dragons have mounted, their dragons will take off for the first ride. Because all are happening at the same time, it's a dangerous time for even the dragons, as they have to be aware of the surroundings, not only for terrain, but for other dragons too. Dragons, both with riders of their own and without, have been known to occasionally... knock a rider from their dragon. Usually this stems from a disdain for humans, or for the dragon species that they're trying to knock the rider from. Dragons may also try to knock their own rider as both a test, but also if their desire to be free is strong enough. Survival and safety are not gaurunteed during this, and riders may be injured or worse. Same goes for dragons. |

Ryu||Water Dragon||150||Male||M:Open Ryu was swimming in the lake when he decided to go to the valley. He swam up to the top and over to the shore. Once at the Shore Ryu got out of the water and sighed. He said "What is going on now?" He heard auguring not far and decided to go in the open area away from the conflict. Ryu was walking when he saw something a human out of the corner of his eye. He ignored the human not really caring at the moment since he was being left alone. Ryu finally made it to the open space and laid down. He didn't want to deal with anything. Ryu thought I wonder why i wanted to come here in the first place? Oh wait don't tell that it is another one of those days. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hiroshi Evergreen||Rider||Male||17||M:Open!/Ryu(ind) Hiroshi was excited to see if he would meet his dragon but also nervous. He couldn't sleep last night and ended up getting yelled at by someone who he doesn't remember. He wasn't the type to hold gugrdes unless it was necessary. As Hiroshi walked to the meeting place with him wishing he had actually gotten sleep. He decided to run which was almost always a bad idea for him since he lacked the speed. Hiroshi didn't want to be late so he pushed himself on. He finally stopped running when he had spotted something behind him but it was gone by the time he looked back. Hiroshi thought What was that!? He continued on his way to the open clearing he was told to go to. Hiroshi had finally reached the open clearing only spotting one dragon but ignored it. |

The Choosing Ceremony was soon.
The thought sent sparks of nervous anticipation coursing through his body. It was hard not being excited for the event. Even if he was not chosen to be a rider, he would still see something amazing: dragons. He had seen dragons before, never up close though; he had looked up on some days and saw the shape of a mighty creature soaring through the sky. It was something that was hard to not think about, even the possibility of being chosen by a dragon was simultaneously terrifying and thrilling. It was a rare occurence indeed that he was so excited that he was almost unable to sleep, but that was exactly what happened the previous night; finally, he had managed to fall asleep, evidently he had been more tired than he had originally thought, as he had gone out like a light.
As Michael walked toward the Choosing Place, that peculiar mix of nervousness and excitement built within him. He knew there was a slim chance he would be chosen, no one knew for certain if they would go on to become a rider or not, after all, but they were hoping; and most of the time they went back to their homes, probably quite disappointed. He knew that this was most likely his fate. He knew not to build his hopes up too much, they would probably be crushed at the end of this ceremony. But, a small voice in the back of his head seemed to whisper, think of those few who were chosen from the crowd. One of them could very well be you.
Hope was a tricky thing.
Finally, he reached the clearing in which he would stay until the end of the ceremony. The first thing he noticed about the area, was the lack of other people, sure, he saw someone that looked around his age, but other than that one and himself, they were alone. When his eyes caught on the tall blue dragon, he had done a double take, a small thrill running through his body. It took a few moments to tear his eyes away from the mostly light blue dragon, staring was rude, no matter the species. He focused on the other human, they were the same height, with spiky dark brown hair. Feeling a bit awkward, not sure what to do, Michael took a few steps deeper into the clearing, and then stopped. Outwardly, he looked calm and collected, inside though? Not so much.

Roxanne Monroe Rider || Eighteen || Female || Mentions: Open She never did plan on returning to Ederia. It was both her birthplace and her motherland, yet she couldn't resent it more. The memories she had of this place? It was enough to keep her away forever. So, let's make one thing clear: it wasn't her choice to come back. If she could stay away forever, she would have. If she had another choice or even the smallest say, she wouldn't be here. However, Roxanne could do little to sway the mind of her great-aunt, who was keen on investing in the land (the soil was rich and plentiful, so she had overheard). Farming was to be her great-aunt's new source of income. She was fixated on it. Practically obsessed. And Roxanne? Roxanne had no choice but to accompany her on the miniature trip that would last a total of one night and two days. It was short enough. It would do. Besides, the moment she began to refuse, another lecture would begin revolving around how ungrateful she was for being taken in and given a second chance. Her plan was to remain in the room they had rented for the entire duration (she didn't feel up to going out). She had planned for it, already unpacking and planning what to eat. Afterwards, she would spend her time reading. However, as luck would have it, she had overheard the owner of the tavern talk of the Choosing Ceremony, and that was all it took for her curiosity to take over. Now, Roxanne found herself standing on the edge of a valley. The valley. The one that she had remembered hearing stories of as a little girl. It was the Choosing Place, as she had recalled. She had briefly recollected seeing it a few times in her life. Odd, it looked much larger when she was younger. Larger, and more colourful, but that was how much children saw the world, wasn't it? She was a naturally curious individual, she couldn't simply pass up seeing the ceremony for real this time. It wouldn't simply be stories or reserved for the older adults. This time, she would actually see it take place. And why not? She was old enough. She was no longer a child. She was able to see it, and she would. Besides, it was the one thing she had remembered wanting to see. Her age stopped her before, but this time, she had nothing holding her back. Roxanne had determined that she would investigate the ceremony, and then spend the remainder of her time in the tavern. It was a decent plan.. a solid one. So, she remained on the edge of the valley, her back leaning against an old oak and basking in its shade. Like always, a frown sat on her face. |

Lira Wild-Heart||16||Female||Rider||M: Roxanne Lira was in town grabbing a bite to eat before the ceremony. She had finished her oatmeal and left. Lira looked up the sky was bright when she had noticed a figure in the sky she looked down(Not Roxanne btw). Lira went ahead and ran out of town and toward the valley. She hadn't noticed that it was so pretty out. Lira was walking when she ran into to someone. She looked up to she a pretty women. Lira said "Im sorry!" She was shocked that someone was already out here and she couldn't tell why she was here. Lira askes "Um if you don't mind i was wondering why are you out here?" ~~~~~~~ Isabel||90||Water dragon||Female||M:Open!Ryu(ind) Isabel was swimming when she noticed Ryu get out of the water but she ingored him. She wondered about going to see the other water dragons but decided not to. Isabel countined to swim after a bit she went ahead and got out of the water. She thought Maybe i should go check the valley out? Wait what if there are others there? Isabel said "I will go anyways i have nothing else to do." With that she headed in the direction of the open area in the valley. She countined to walk until she reached it. She notice to male humans and of course Ryu which she decided to keep her distance. Isabel wasn't letting anyone near her unless it was her rider or so to be anyways. |
