Perseverance

Famine, droughts, and disease can be devastating, and no one knows this more than two packs: The Night Shade Pack and The River Ash Pack. Two powerful packs who had been thriving were brought down by mother nature herself, much of their wolves falling victim to her perilous treatment. All hoped seemed lost until they two packs decided to do something they never thought they would. They left their homes. Seeking out a place where they could once more settle in and not only survive, but thrive.

And the packs have found just that. A luscious, blooming little piece of territory that has miraculously remained unclaimed. However, there are two packs, and one open territory, and both packs want it for their own. Not out of malice for the other necessarily, but just sheer survival. Tempers flare, teeth are bared, and while the two have never been amicable neighbors, they at least tolerated each other. Now? No, now they are fierce enemies, trying to cling to what little hope they have left.

At war, the packs must decide what to do. Will they fight for the territory, and perhaps doom the other to fade from existence? Or will they find a way to come together so that both of their packs may survive? Only time can tell.

__________

I could add a Third Pack if needed, if there's a demand and not enough spots. It could be worked in. Ex: A pack neighboring the unclaimed territory desires it for itself, and with the two packs closing in on it, now, they believe, is the time to strike.

___________

This is a roleplay loosely based off of a couple of different old Rps I've made in the past, both here and on HEE, one of which it is actually named for. Wolf Roleplays is something I have always greatly enjoyed and even learned on, so I'm ecstatic to actually be able to create one of my own.

We gonna try this one more time.

Rules for the Roleplay
Obviously, follow all of WP and Eve's Rules.

1. Max of 4 Characters
2. Be Active; 3 Posts a Week Minimum. If you fall inactive for a week, your wolves will be killed off.
3. This is a Semi-Literate Rp, so 5+ Sentences per post required.
4. Absolutely NO One-Liners.
5. No God-Modding, Powerplaying, Perfect Characters, Etc.
6. No Love at First Sight or Being Mates with you own Characters. Crushes and Pre-Established Mates are allowed, but for becoming mates, roleplay it out. You shouldn't be mates after one day.
7. I'm okay with having additional side characters to your main if they are planned to be killed off. Ask first though please.
8. There will likely be NPC wolves in the Rp who's sole purpose is to get killed off and further the plot. I am okay if your wolves having NPC mates IF they get killed off shortly. Again, though, ask first.
9. If you've read everything, put whether I should add a third pack to the Other section of your form.
10. You may only have One high ranked wolf at this time when starting out. Which includes Alphas, Betas, and Deltas. If a wolf is promoted to a higher rank through roleplay, it's fine to have more than one. This is subject to change.
11. For the purpose of this rp, I don't want any orphan pups. They must have a parent, blood or adopted.

For Reservations, I do accept them, but they must be completed within 24 hours or they will be taken down. You can still create your wolf even after the reservation is taken down, but if someone comes in and creates a wolf for that rank before you do, then they'll receive the position.

About the Packs

The Night Shade Pack
The Night Shade Pack was one of the first packs to be afflicted with the trifecta of mother nature's wrath. They were one of the oldest and strongest packs in their original area, and fought the hardest to survive before they chose to leave. Night Shade was more heavily affected by disease caused by famine and unhealthy prey. They were least affected by the drought for the longer than most packs, because they had such large water sources like a lake and river. Leaving was not a decision they took lightly, but their Alpha chose to in order to save his pack.

The Night Shade pack is a little harsher, not necessarily cruel, but they are more wary about strangers and change than other packs. They're closer knit, and not overly accepting of rogues, even more so now that the pack has been shaken and reduced greatly from the whole ordeal. Naturally, the older pack and it's strength drew the attention of the larger, stronger wolves. So they're made up of wolves who are primarily known for their strength. Of course, though, every wolf is different and not all wolves will fit that bill.

The River Ash Pack
The River Ash Pack was a newer pack in the same area that the Night Shade pack is from. They had just established a territory when mother nature struck. They were greatly affected by the drought first, not having abundant water sources. The lack of water drove prey off, leaving wolves to prey on weaker, sicker animals that could leave. This let disease into the ranks, like it did the Night Shade pack. Leaving, for this pack, was much easier, as they had roamed for quite some time prior to establishing their territory. It was an easy decision once sickness had set in.

The River Ash Pack is a more open and friendly pack, though mostly from the fact that majority of them used to be rogues. They're a little more wary now, since they're weakened from dealing with the drought and everything. The River Ash Pack is known for being more fast and agile wolves, much of that coming from their days when they were a more nomadic pack. Of course, they are by no means weak, and, like mentioned above, not every wolf is going to be the same or anything.

About the Ranks

Alpha Male & Female
These are the leading pairs of the pack, the two who are in charge and make the decisions. Their word is law, and to defy them would be an act much like treason. They, typically, are some of the strongest wolves in the pack. They are always mates, but if one passes, the other remains in power. They can rule alone or find another mate. For the purpose of this rp, they can't be challenged unless approved by me. (Mostly if it furthers the Rp or is Planned ahead of time.)

Betas
These are the second in command, and can be either male or female. There is only one in each pack. They ensure that all the Alphas orders are secure, and enforced, along with punishments. They are the wolves who are most trusted by the alphas. This position CAN be challenged for, however, it must be approved by the Alphas. This is because the Second IS the most trusted wolf to the Alpha. Can't have a second who they don't trust. A Beta may be reassigned whenever a new Alpha takes over though.

Deltas
Like the Betas, there is only one in the pack at a given time. They are, in essence, the third in command. They are usually the opposite gender of the Beta to ensure balance, but not always. Their main purpose is to be the next Beta, so think of them as Beta Apprentices almost, the wolf who would take their place if something happened. Typically, the delta is a wolf chosen by the Beta and the Alphas, a wolf who is competent and trusted by the them. This position cannot be challenged for that reason, unless approved by the wolves above them. Obviously, like the Beta, if there's a new Alpha that takes over, the rank of Delta can be reassigned.

Subordinates
These are all the adult wolves beneath the top three ranks. They are the hunters, warrior, scouts, etc. They make up the primary force of the pack. There will be wolves of all difference dominance in this grouping, and it's not unlikely to see some of them take on more responsibility as others. All wolves over 1 year are in this group, male and female alike.

Pups
These are just all the wolves who are below the age of 1 year. As they get closer to transitioning into being Subordinates, the more trained they'll become.

Omegas
These are the lowest ranked wolves, even below the pups. This is not a glorious position to have in the slightest. They are, by every means, pretty much the punching bag of the pack. They're the weakest wolves or the least trusted. If a Subordinate or any wolf is out of line enough, or disobeys the leaders, they'll be demoted to omega. Sometimes, though, wolves will be cast out before reaching this rank. There is a Max of 2 in the pack at a time. When a new wolf is considered to be an Omega, if there is already two, one of the current ones will either be kicked out or moved back to subordinate.

Nomad
These are the lone wolves. The males and females who aren't apart of either pack. They may have become lone wolves willingly, or they may have been forced to become nomads. Sometimes referred to as rogues, nomadics, or dispersal wolves. Some of these wolves won't be doing well, some of them might be doing better than pack wolves because they aren't tied down to one place. (Not all can be in pristine health though.)

For the Start of the Rp & First Posts

For the Roleplay:

There are a couple of things you should know.

1. Neither pack's wolves are all going to be at 100% at the start of the rp. When they haven't been traveling, they've been dealing with disease, famine, and drought. It's entirely possible for some wolves to still be sick, or be recovering from being sick. Some, especially the lower ranked wolves, will likely be on the skinnier side, as the higher ranked wolves tend to eat first and eat more.

2. While this is a more semi-realistic themed rp, there are still some realistic things I want to include.
- Like the above mentioned fact that Higher Ranked Wolves eat first and will eat more. The Alphas eat first, and they may allow the Beta and even Delta to eat as well, but they don't have to. If they don't the following two eat after. The only other wolves able to eat when the Alpha does, with no questions asked, are pups. Pregnant wolves are more likely to be tolerated on the carcass sooner than normal.
- Omega is not a romanticized rank. They're treated poorly, and disobedience or disrespect on their part is rarely, if ever, tolerated.
- Subordinates don't have specific jobs, they are the hunters, the warriors, the scouts, etc. They may be better at different things, that's fine, but they won't do just one job. Also, there will be different dominance and a minor hierarchy to the subordinates. Meaning, even some subordinates will be dominant over other subordinates. It's not unlikely to see wolves in the subordinate rank trying to fight for dominance amongst each other.

3. Any wolves who have pups, lets keep litters to 3-4 max. They do not have to be roleplayed wolves until they become over a year old unless their purpose is to die later on. Pups under a year can be NPCs if they're not constantly being roleplayed.

4. For the purpose of this Rp human interaction will be extremely limited. Any humans or hunters must be previously approved by me. For disasters or other wolves, I don't mind others beginning those interactions or events, but lets not do one after another with no break between.

5. Obviously for the purpose of Rp pack laws and orders can be broken, but don't expect your wolves to get away with everything, or to get by with no punishment. If the wolf takes a risk, there's significant chance they'll be punished for doing something wrong if found out.

6. Because neither pack is full, there will be NPC wolves through out the rp to fill the subordinate ranks, and maybe some pups. These are characters that are there as fillers and can be used by others. If someone is Rping an NPC in their post, they control that particular character for the moment, do not try to control them during that time.

For the Posts Always Include a Header.
It Must At Least Include:
Name
Pack
Rank

____________________________

Life has been.. difficult.. for the two packs. However, a glimmer of a hopeful future lingers within their grasp. Moving into the new territory, the two packs begin to settle in. They are aware that they are there, however, there seems to be some unspoken truce for now. A temporary, tense thing that is bound to fall beneath teeth and claw. For now, though, while they gain their footing, there is the barest hint of peace between the two.

Unfortunately for both packs, though, their trouble didn't end when they left their old territories. Storm clouds gather around them, their rumbles of thunder promising what can only be complete disaster. Knowing there is limited time for them, the packs scramble to get prepared for what's to come, unsure exactly what that entails.

____________________

Basically, the packs are preparing for the worst, hoping for the best. It forces them into multiple altercations as they search for easy food, and preparing dens for possible flooding. There will be itneractions between the packs. Wolves will be given more freedom to search for food and anything that can help them survive.

I know this isn't well written [ I tried ].

You may post!

Rune
Night Shade Pack | Alpha Male | Mentions: Zethus, Ornate, Open

Bright orbs stared into the sky as the darkening clouds glared back, their distant rumblings a promised thread. A soft growl rolled in his throat, his shoulders twitching as he considered what the fallout of such a storm could be. They hadn't been there for long, so they wouldn't lose much in terms of progress, but the pack had taken a hit after everything, and a storm could mean death for some if they weren't careful.

Snorting in disdain, as if his sole reason for living was out of spite, the male turned a cold shoulder to the clouds, choosing to ignore their betrayal. He glanced at the rough den site they had begun to carve out for themselves, and barked sharply, a commanding sound to draw attention to himself. He knew his pack would listen to him, even if he couldn't see them all.

"Get as many dens prepared as you can, we may have to double up on them so everyone can stay dry. Try not to put them downhill so they don't flood, if you do, try to create an exit tunnel that can function to relieve water from it," he paused, his tail lifting a bit as he did. "I also want some of us to go in search of food. Scavenge, hunt, steal, whatever we have to do to have food to last us til the storm passes. Focus on food we can bring and keep in the dens, large game, as great as it sounds, won't work," he nodded his head when he finished speaking to signal that he was finished with the group.

"Zethus!" He called immediately after, his eyes searching for the male. He intended to put him in charge of making sure dens were carved out as best as they could. Since the male had a mate and pups to look out for, he wasn't going to send the male away from them for today. No, he and his beta, Ornate, could handle the rest.

His eyes cast about in search of the familiar white she-wolf, but his eyes didn't immediately find her. Where was his Beta?

Seok
Night Shade Pack | Subordinate | Mentions: Rune, Open
Status: Prowling for Food & Scavenging

A dark colored male lifted his head from his den when a sharp bark pulled his attention up. With the coming storm, Seok had set to clearing a small space of a den for himself. It wasn't anything special, but it would work for him. He didn't need to live in luxury. Though he had been rather careful to pick where his den was, making sure it wouldn't be in the sun or shade too much, nor was it's entrance in a location that would allow it to flood easily. With it's shallowly dug out, but enough to provide him shelter, Seok decided his talents could be used else where.

Climbing from his den, the male shook out his dust coated fur, and trotted forward. He glanced at Rune, and murmured, "I'm going to go look for easy food," and trotted off. The other male nodded in response, used to Seok's curt and quick wording. He trusted Rune never to be offended by his direct statements, he just wasn't the type to sugar coat or beat around the bush.

Paws thudded into the underbrush as he moved quickly through the forest. He was careful not to stray too far, very aware that the rival pack was much closer than any of them would like them to be. There wasn't a full territory between him and them, so he knew he needed to be wary when out and about.

With his ears perked, listening for the barest sign of prey, Seok allowed his nose to twitch as he sniffed, scenting for any sign of rabbits, squirrels, or already deceased animals. A particular stench tickled his nose after a minute, and his ears shifted in the direction it came from. He recognized it easily as the smell of decaying flesh, though not something long enough dead to be rotten.

Nodding to himself, the male turned his path slightly and headed in the direction of the potential meal. Hopefully he could snack and then bring some back for the pack.

Nephthys | Night Shade | 5 | Female | Subordinate | M: Open

A gentle breeze caressed the tops of the trees, making them dance and sway. A gentle rain made the grass wet and slippery; easy for one to lose their footing on. Paws pounded the forest floor, never stopping for a second. An ear-splitting yet excited howl pierced the air before fading away into silence, the call letting others know of their location. Somebody was on the hunt.

A gorgeous white wolf was speeding after a rabbit of rather large proportions; it’d make a nice meal. The wolf’s long, fluffy tail trailed behind her like a cloud of dust as she ran with long, powerful strides packing a great amount of speed behind them. She was slowly growing closer to the rabbit that she was pursuing, who’s eyes were wide with fear at the predator who it knew was going to steal it’s last breath. The wolf was almost out of it; panting to no end and breathing harsher than the storm that was inevitably going to come.

The wolf, who’s name was Nephthys, increased the immense strength behind her strides in an effort to also heighten the speed at which she was going. She had to catch her prey for her pack, for herself as well. However, she also had to be careful not to make a wrong step or a bad maneuver; it could cost her the hunt. The rabbit, however, was in too much of a panic to understand this. If it faltered, it’d cost it it’s own life. Nephthys was completely aware of this, and her gaze was not focused on any part but the rabbit’s feet, searching and waiting for them to trip. Watch closely… there!

The rabbit tripped and was flung forward onto the ground, just barely stopping itself from slamming into the large, mossy boulder in front of it. The rock was dark and wet from the light rain, which was slowly but surely growing in intensity. The rabbit made a move to get up, but in one, swift motion, it was all over. Nephthys dove forward, clutching the rabbit’s warm, furry body with her shining white teeth. She clamped them down on the rabbit, the hot taste of scarlet red blood on her tongue. Then, she violently thrashed the small mammal around, blood flying up into the air as the creature met its end.

Nephthys felt not a tinge of pity nor sorrow for the rabbit who’d she’d just killed in a most painful way. The weight of the creature made Nephthys’s head feel like it was being weighed down by a rock, so she laid it down to observe it. “Wow,” said the wolf, “it’s so big.” And it was, the size of the rabbit was easily enough to sate two wolf’s appetites. But since Nephthys didn’t have any friends or significant other, she’d either be eating alone or giving it to somebody else who needed it more than her.

She picked it back up in her jaws, grunting and turning to look up at the sky. There wasn’t even an inch of sky that was uncovered in dark, inky black storm clouds. They were going to cast their wrath down upon the land; anybody could tell that there was going to be a serious downpour. If it resulted in a flood, there’d be many vulnerable wolves put at great risk. And with the conflict between the despicable River Ash pack going on, it could be a challenge to find shelter from the squall.

“Better get back,” Nephthys murmured, shaking her head to clear her thoughts. Throwing back her head to the sky above her, the wolf opened her jaws and let out a howl. It was incredibly mournful; like a dark, gloomy day touched by a quiet rain. That paired with the lowness and sheer length of it was like a beautiful requiem to the ears. When she lowered her head, Nephthys stood, awaiting a reply so that she could find her pack.
