I was moreso curious because that would be a good determining factor to see if it's minecraft helping more than Doulingo or if it's because Norwegian being possibly easier to learn.

To my knowledge French and Norwegian are two very different languages

Plot

A fire has ravaged the ranches that many horses called home. The survivors have formed a herd and moved north; they finally settle in the plains at the base of the Rockies. A wild herd has dwelt there for decades; they are none too happy about coming down from the foaling grounds to find the newcomers.

Tensions are high. The owned horses have just escaped certain death and are not certain as to what they should do now, but their plans do not involve being chased further away from lands of familiarity. On the other hand, the wild horses have long lived in the foothills. They have successfully maintained it, driving out other travelling herds in the past. This one is no different.

Right?

The ranch horses are not so easily defeated. Will the herds learn to coexist? Will one force the other out? You decide.

Feral Herd Rules

The lead mare is not to be disputed with unless she is very obviously making a bad decision.

The words of the lead pair are law.

Outside relations with bachelors are prohibited. Family ties are more lenient. But no bebes.

Mares found with foal by an outside stallion will be punished unless they were previously granted permission to have said foal.

A direct order from a lead is to be followed immediately. The safety of the herd could be in jeopardy, and all herd members must listen.

Foals are not to wander off at all. Yearlings still need adult supervision.

Colts who do not wish to stay within the herd will be booted at 3 years of age.

Herd stallions may breed within the herd.

Ranch Herd Rules

Stick together.

Survive.

Listen to the lead(s). They are more experienced and the chances of survival are greater when they are listened to.

Don't trust outsiders.

Starting Posts Information

The setting is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in the central United States. For the sake of my sanity, there won't be any actual humans present in the RP. The previously owned horses will have had dealings with them, and these may be mentioned, but there won't be any roundups, tests, etcetera.

The RP will begin in late springtime. All of last year's pregnant mares from the wild herd will have foaled, though some may be late bloomers and still in gestation. It was a hard winter, but the weather is looking promising and the land is fertile.

As of the first post, it is late morning. The weather is damp and cool but the day promises to warm quickly. The two herds have not yet come into contact with one another, though they are close. One might spot the other, but, for now, they remain separated and unaware.

Reminder that posts are 150+ words.

Dez || 6 || Lead || Ranch Herd || M: Herd, Open

The night had been a sleepless one.

Dez's tall, muscular frame stood outlined against the cloudy sky. Bits of sunlight began to burn through the clouds, providing warmer patches here and there along the route of the ragtag herd. He watched the dew begin to fade from the green blades beneath him, but not before he snatched up a few of them.

The stallion raised his head to survey the horses around him for a moment; They had paused after an extra long walk. The scent of cougar had caused him to move the herd much earlier than he had intended, and so now they were taking a rest that he considered well-earned. None of them were used to these conditions over long durations of time, and some were still injured from the fires. Most of it was from inhaling smoke.

Dez twitched an hear and looked out away from the herd, in the direction they had been heading. A long expanse of foothills backed up onto the long, jagged peaks of the Rockies. The trees were sparse in their current location, but, not far off, the forest began to condense. Perhaps he would move the herd nearer to those...

Mountains were easier for him to navigate than some of the others, though. He had to put them first, now. The large stallion sighed deeply and bounded down from his rocky hill, down to the rest of the horses. This was going to be a long day.

Dorin.
Stallion | 11 | Lead | Feral Herd | Mentions: Open, Indirectly Aine

The cool air was soothing to Dorin in a way. Normally he would be quiet annoyed with the sun, considering how dark his coat is and how much he soaks up the heat without even trying. For once he could relax and get a moment of coolness, and all the while observing his herd, Dorin would find it easier to manuever through the perimeters of their current territory.

He had been up for hours before. Normally he wouldn't sleep well, and the previous was definitely no different. He never understood what caused his sleepless nights, but at times, it was for the better. Countless of times he had prevented the worse from happening - mountain lions lurking in the depths of their surroundings, humans around, anything of the like. Alerting the lead mare, Aine, was the main concern when it came to dangers.

Dorin snorted. The perimeter was good, and to be fair, this was about the third time he had checked it. He had been studying the environment for a while now, and this morning he had watched the sun rise. He always liked those - the multitude of colors painting the sky in an artistic way that soothed Dorin alongside others. They were always a sight to see, and he could appreciate sunrises as well.

The expanse of the territory was sometimes larger than Dorin could recall. He didn't mind, though, as sometimes he preferred that time away from his herd. He never bothered complaining about it, because to be fair, there was always reason behind his constant wandering. He preferred to be gone for longer anyways, but it was moments like this that he wished he could simply move the herd himself and not ask permission from the Lead Mare.

In the distance, there was something lurking, and Dorin could feel it in his feet. He stopped in his tracks, inhaling the air. Everything seemed normal until the slight breeze had carried new scents. Though very distant, he could make out very few other horses, and for a moment, Dorin felt the urge to simply just run them out. However, there would be no need for that until they posed some sort of true harm to his herd. Dorin hummed to himself before turning back, back towards the herd.

The day would now begin, he thought, and he would have to continue to do his duties as Lead Stallion.

Gale 3 Lone Mare
Gale trecked on. No home or herd to call her own, just a nomad always and forever. The dew soaked her legs as she walked through it. Her mother had raised her in the mountains after being chased out from there old herd. Although she was just a young filly so she didnt remember much besides the things her mother had told her.
As she walked her leg started to hurt. She had hurt it going down some rocks and her not paying attention. The dew made it feel better but not entirly. I'll have to rest soon. But for now i must keep going. She told herself

Kane

Stallion || 5 || Regular || M: Herd, Dez (indirect), Gypsophila, open

It had been a difficult night for the stallion.

Fire and fear haunted his dreams like a ghost. That night, the night where everything went wrong and the whole herds life turned upside down. It was all a blur for him, fire, adrenaline and the sound of his friends screaming. Somehow he survived, somehow he got out and now he had them to protect.

Coughing the stallion stirred from his nap, his lungs felt like they were still full of smoke sometimes, especially in the mornings and evenings. His fits did not effect his ability to keep up with the herd, but they were at the very best an annoyance. It made him paranoid that the fire had damaged him more permanently than he originally thought, but as of yet he only faced his morning wheezing.

Carefully unfolding his legs, the brute stood up and looked around shaking out his mane. Such thoughts were not for now, right now the herd was his priority, he may not be the leader, but he did feel personally responsible or caring for these horses. With a deep breath he scanned the surrounding area, spotting Dez return from whatever he task he had set himself, and set about looking for Gypsophila.

Noche || 4 || Feral Herd Mare || M: Others (Ind), Open

The pitch black mare stood near the perimeter of the herd, eyes narrowed and ears in a relaxed position. She'd slept fitfully; for whatever reason, perhaps the constant changing of the wind, the mare had woken constantly from vivid dreams. Now, though, with the sun came a sense of security that the night had not brought.

She was not one to fear the dark; with her coat, she almost relished it and the camouflage it brought her. But last night... She wasn't sure why, but it had been different. Noche released a long sigh, her sides expanding and then shrinking again. Her gaze followed Dorin for a moment, and then she glanced over to Aine, and then the others.

This day felt off; perhaps it had just been the oddness of her nighttime experience. Noche shook out her coat and trekked further into the herd, out the other side, and climbed up the side of the nearest hill to look around. Dorin had already run his rounds and hadn't moved the herd, so she was confident it was safe.

Noche scanned the horizon, pausing briefly on what appeared to be another gathering of horses, before looking away and inhaling. The scent of smoke still hung in the air; it smelled like damp, charred wood. It was faint, though. She'd seen the light from the fires for many nights, but they had gone the opposite way of the herd. Thank goodness.

She clambered back down after she was satisfied with her investigation and began nibbling half-heartedly on the grass.
