Emery kept quite the whole ride, her own thoughts jumbled together into a mess she couldnt process. All in 24 hours she had been kidnapped and rescued by the one man she had never thought to see again. Her jaw ticked, and it wasnt until they had almost made it to his apartment did she yank her hand away from his grasp. She winced though, when he parked the car abruptly and announced that she was staying with him.

She scrambled out the car, following behind him quitely rather then fighting against what she already knew was impossible. His mind was made up and there was no changing it, something she admired about him but now it pissed her off more then she could imagine. She should be screaming, why did he leave her? Why did he just go without a goodbye? She knew what he did, there was no going back but still she stayed when she could have ran. But no..he waited weeks after it happened to leave and now he just shows up again. Her anger seemed to sizzle up, the flame they had created long ago now being the torch to her anger. Fueling her to just say something, explode- scream...something. But she kept her head low and kept following suite till they reached his building and he led her inside.

The apartment was sleek, the black and white theme almost predictable only if she hadnt known him better then anyone. Emery spared him a glance, before she walked towards the living room and sat onto one of the couches with a long sigh. The flame from a fire was the only thing keeping her from going insane and breaking down.

Brekker left her to her own devices, heading into the kitchen. He removed his coat, setting his pistol on the counter before disposing of the article of clothing. When he shot Damocles in the foot, he had fired the gun through the pocket of his coat, leaving it ruined. He then called one of his higher men, Damien, informing him that he had retrieved the girl. “So, did Damocles take the hundred million we filled your trunk with?” Damien questioned.

“No, I shot him in the foot and killed one of his men instead. It went fine, she has minimal injuries.” Brekker explained, sitting on the island. “Retrieve my car and have the money stashed again. I parked it in my usual spot.”

“You left that much cash sitting in your car?!”

“Anyone who even thinks about breaking into my car would be killed just for having that idea.” He sneered, teeth-baring.

“Jesus… Okay, I’ll arrange the pickup sir, have a good night.”

The receiver clicked and the call ended. Brekker sighed, placing the shattered device on the counter. He should’ve had Damien order him a new one while he had him on the line. There would be time for that later though, he should be getting back to his “guest”.

Snatching a bottle of water from his refrigerator, he set it on the coffee table in front of her. “You should drink it, your body’s bound to need it.” Brekker’s face was blank, his eyes unreadable. It did not betray the emotions that were happening inside him. No, inside he was experiencing turmoil because the lover he had abandoned was sitting on his couch, no doubt furious with him. He wanted to tell her that what happened wasn’t supposed to happen, to explain that he didn’t want to leave her, that he wasn’t the monster she saw.

But the problem was, Brekker is a monster. A killer who takes his victims without a second thought. He was ruthless and undeserving of the sweet college girl who sat before him. As much as he wanted to claim her lips and take her into his arms again, she was no longer his to hold.

“You’ll stay in my bedroom, there’s a bathroom en suite if you want to bathe.” He explained, stretching his arms above his head, “Borrow some of my clothes if you want, I don’t care. You’ll have to lay low for a few days, I’ll make the arrangements.” Brekker began to pick up some of the things he had left lying around, although there wasn’t much to pick up. He just felt as if he needed to do something.

“You should stay for tomorrow as well, while I prep everything. And no, I am not going to force you to leave Boone. That would be cruel of me. Good night Emery, I’ll be in my office if you need me…” Brekker trailed and paused in his movements as if he had something else to say. But clearly, he thought better of it, because he began to walk down the hall that led to the other rooms.

Emery snatched the bottle of water off the table, it liquid gone within a minute of her dowinf it greedily. "I dont need your protection. Remember you left me." She snapped her anger starting to boiil over. Her face red with rage as she stood, pacing across the floor. "You dont get to come back a rescuer and think everythings okay and just walk away like that. Im tired of watching you walk away. Now you can watch me do it instead." She finished, breathing heavy as she head towards the door.

What did he think this was? Some game to him. She couldnt stay here any longer and not explode of him. She couldnt handle watching the man she still desperately loved walk away from her again when all this was over. She had to leave, and for good whether it meant leaving Boones or not. Being here was only holding captive, she would just change her location and start over else where.

That still wouldnt solve her problems, Emery thought sourly. As she turned to knob to the door and walked out, She couldnt help bur wonder if she would stay...would he? No. He would leave just like before. She took one look behind her at him before she slammed the door closed and walked off.

Almost as soon as she exited the building, shots were fired and her world came crashing down all over again...

Heartbreak. It stained her words, raised her tone of voice. Pain. It laced her erratic movements as she unknowingly knocked over a standing decoration. For several moments he did not face her, her harsh words burying themselves into his back. Brekker wouldn’t have been surprised if there were gashes in the shape of words on his skin.

It wasn’t as if he didn’t deserve it. Brekker had made her declarations dressed in passion and promises laced with love. Then he had abandoned them all, taking a figurative sledgehammer to her heart. Brekker had disappeared, leaving the woman who had done nothing but adore him in the dust.

Brekker hadn’t wanted to leave her. It was something he had needed to do. Emery hadn’t been safe at his side, being with him was a liability. Even when she was at her safest, her life was always on the line when she was associated with him. It was when Brekker realized he could not always protect her, that he bolted. He had left without a word, attempting to never see her again.

But the man had lingered in her town, not able to completely cut ties. It was odd the way Elias Brekker showed love. He had stayed around, carrying on his business in the states, but doing his best to protect her from afar. He had stuck to the shadows, his gang running in the background, keeping tabs on everything. It was because of Brekker’s system that he had been able to find her tonight. Although, it was because of Brekker’s touch that she had been kidnapped in the first place.

“Emery...” He finally spoke, turning back around to face her. I love you. “Be smart about this.” He approached cautiously, stepping back into the living area. She was livid and she had every right to be. “I know you hate me and that’s fine, but you’re safest here.” Although his point was logical, it was clear there was no reasoning with her. He crossed the foyer faster, desperate to reach her despite his outwardly distant attitude.

“Dammit Em, please.” He finally begged. But the door was already slammed, and the shots were already fired. Brekker did not reach for the gun on the counter. No, he went straight for the doorknob, and straight for Emery.

She was on the floor, whether from a gunshot wound, or an instinctive collapse, he could not tell. He fell on his knees as well, dragging her inside. One bullet grazed his shoulder and another whizzed past his head. Brekker slammed the door once he had her inside, reaching up to secure the several locks that adorned it. He secured her in his arms, snatched his gun, and ran for his bedroom, taking the stairs two at a time.

They were trapped. There was no rear exit, no secret passageway, no escape. Brekker cursed, dialing his phone. “Damien I need a fucking crew, NOW!” He hollered into the device, beginning to scan over Emery for any injury, “These bastards followed me home Dame, I can’t kill them all myself!”

“Em? Em, are you hurt?” He questioned, his voice growing soft. Damien called out a response, but Brekker’s focus had already shifted, his gaze darted between his former lover and the bedroom door, just waiting for them to break in. The locks would only hold for so long.

Emery ducked, falling to the ground quickly as the cars came to a stop and sorayed more shots at the house, her arm heated up quickly, blood starting to drip down her arm but she hadnt even realized she was shot. Her body went numb, the adrenaline from all of todays events all crashing into her body. Emerys ears rung, her eyes starting to blur as she watched Elias's face floating above hers. "I-..." She crashed, her eyes slipping shut once again for the thrid time that day. This had to be some sort of record.

Gun shots continued to spray, though now they were confident enough to walj towards the door and start to try and break it down. Glass shattered around them, but the war at hand was the onky thing that mattered.

Things were shattering, voices were howling, and Emery was unconscious. Brekker cursed, hiding her around one side of the bed as he ran for the first aid kit in his bathroom. The pistols grip in his mouth, he tore through the cupboards, snatching the small bundle of items from its shelf and sprinting back to her.

Brekker slid across the floor with an eerie sound as his door burst open, gunfire erupting within the small bedroom. His ears rang as he sought shelter behind the bed, chest heaving with each intake of breath. Where was his crew? He needed his men and he needed them now.

His frenzied gaze floated down to the unconscious girl next to him. A hand snaked up to rest on the side of her face, a gentle thumb stroking her cheek. Brekker did not doubt in his mind he would die tonight. Outgunned and outmanned, the mob boss would never live to see another sunrise.

Brekker raised his gun and he fired. A horrified shout told him he had hit his mark, but a bullet sunk into the man's own shoulder, sending Brekker tumbling to the floor. He hollered but was undeterred. He fired several more shots, some missing, some hitting. A shot hit his torso, sending him careening back.

In what he thought were his final moments, Brekker reached for her, but his hand fell short several inches. A bitter, sad grin crossed his features and he thumped his head against the wall.

The Watcher would be saved by the bell. His men came charging in, heavily armed, fully prepared to die for the man who lay bleeding next to his lover. They made their way to him so fast it had made his own efforts seem pitiful. An unused first aid kit and a bloodied gun lay next to him, tools of opposite uses. One was used to preserve life. One was used to end it.

Damien ran to him, shaking him in efforts to keep him awake. Brekker was fading, his dark eyes half-lidded and his whole body slumped. “Emery…” His voice was gruff and raw with pain, “Dame help her…”

Brekker’s eyes fluttered shut and the last thing he remembered was the muffled shouts of his men as they began to carry him to the safe house.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
The beeping was steady, a pressure cup wrapped securely around Emerys uninjured arm, the other laying limply beside her unmoving body. The slow fall and rise of the sheets were the only thing letting anyone around know she was alive. Along with the steady beeping moniter.
A groan fell from the bed, her eyes fluttering open and back closed in and attempt to sheild out any light. She groaned, "Grru.." Her eyes now dancing across the room. A chair, and a door. That was all that laid in fhe bare white room, though beside her lay another body.
"Elias..." She whispered, the wires coming from his body rattling her to the core. Not her Eli. She whimpered, regret instantly filling her body as she watched the man she loved lay there. "Im so sorry." She cried out, hand clasping over her mouth to hide the noise. The door cracked open, a doctor peeking his head inside, only he wasnt your normal- more like...The safe house. She had seen this man before, treated Elias the night he had shot the man. She swallowed, his eyes catching hers and instantly his face lit up. "Your awake Madam." He sighed, relieved "Thank god." He breathed out, "He would've had my head if i wouldnt have brought you back." He teased lightly though it wasnt really funny. Emery raised a brow, her plae face blank "How long have i been out for?" She asked.
"3 days miss. Boss hasnt woken yet either. Perhaps your could get him outta there." He uttered soberly. "Im just goad your both okay. Shot to your arm, one in your leg when they broke into the door. He tried to cover you, but.." He trailed off, eyes now locked on his boss laying there. Emery bit her lip, looking down with guilt stabbing her heart. "Im sorry." She whispered. "Its my fault. I should have known that would happen. Eli..he tried to tell me.. tried to stop me.." Her voice quivered and she wiped at her tears now angry at herself.

"Please leave. I need a moment." She whispered, and the docotor nodded leaving the two alone once more.

A hotel room. Brekker was away on business, per usual, and it was one of the times Emery’s schedule had allowed her to join him. They were nestled on the couch, Emery playfully swatting away his wandering hands. “Elias!” She scolded him softly, ruffling his hair. Brekker laughed, pulling her closer to him. He nuzzled her neck, resting his handsome head on her shoulder.

“I adore you, Emery”

Love. The Watcher had fallen in love.

Brekker blinked, the warmth of her body disappearing, only to be replaced by the cold, uncomfortable feeling of the thin sheets. He let out a moan of protest and attempted to roll over, only to have pain shoot through his shoulder. Another moan escaped him, but this one was of pain. He squeezed his eyes shut and began to remember the events that had transpired.

The kidnapping. The gunfight. Emery’s shot.

Emery’s shot.

A soft inhale. A shuddering exhale. Brekker opened his eyes and pushed himself into a sitting position, hissing at the pain. Right. He had been shot in the shoulder and somewhere in his midsection. Great. He brought his hands up to his forehead, rubbing his face as if to bring some life back into his sickly pale skin. They went up into his hair, running through the unruly dark strands. At last, he turned his head, coming face to face with the only person who could make him smile.

“Emery,” Brekker breathed, unable to hide his relief. It took every ounce of his self-control not to take her into his arms, shoulder be damned. Alas, he knew he no longer had the right to do that. Brekker couldn’t do that.

They couldn’t be together. Their current situation was a blatant reminder of why they wouldn’t work. Emery was Brekker’s only weakness. They would come after her until she was killed. And how could Emily possibly be happy if she was always wondering if Brekker would come back alive?

Her name falling from his mouth was the only thing that caught her attention again, from the raising hell and anger flowing through her body. The relief was evident in his tone, now weather he just didnt want to bury her body ir it was somethinf else that made him..relieved? Her jaw ticked closed, eyes searching his for anything other then the blank stares he had been giving her.
Pain shot through her arm as she moved it, peeling the blanket from her body and moving to sit up. She hissed, the pain lime white hot lava spreading through her body. But laying there was only making her feelings for him intensefy and she couldn't help what would happen next if she just..let go of the beds railings. Her hands turning white from the grip and from the words she was about to say next; "Sorry." Emery stated.

Emery should have known better then to just leave like nothing happened, it was dumb..but she wasnt thinking. Breathing the same air as Eli was suffocating, he toon her breath away quite literally. She was losing her mind, and him standing there saying..almost nothing had killed her. Deep down she knew the reason for him leaving was either to keep himself protected or her, but even without him she was in danger. The moment he spoke to her on a lonely crowded street was the moment her life became in danger.
{flashback}
People bustled about, the small but thankfully quite cafe kept Emerys mind at ease. Her eyeshrows though were oushed thogether in concentration as she read the book before her. The words seemed to draw her deeper and deeper into the pages until a man cleared his voice, asking her to move rather..rudely. Emery snapped the book closed, stood to her feet and pressed a prefectly manicured finger into his chest "You." She hissed, angry from the interuption, "Your ruining the book dammit." Was she said before storming off. But he wasnt done with her, just that little conversation had him hooked.
{end of foashback.}

Emery turned her head away from him, her eyes wet woth tears as the memories replayed over and over again in her mind. The promise. That was the one memory that hurt the most because he knew he had lied to her face..even after everything. Without another word, she laid onto her back letting the silence fall between them. After all that was said and done, what else was there to do? He was gone, in another world and lifetime he would have been with her; none of this happening. But this was reality, and even though it weighed down bricks and boulders onto Emery's shoulders she had learned how to deal with it all. Pushing through every thought or memory of him to get by with her life even with a gaping hole in her heart where he used to be. But of course he hadnt known about any of the things she went through, because he wasnt there.
[im so so sorry for the late as hell reply. Just life. >.< also i have aj idea ;P but its triggering o.e and i would rather speak to you about it first before i throw it into the roleplay.]

(Sure, just pm me the idea, I don't have issues with most things)

Emery apologized, but Brekker just shook his head, dismissing it. How was she supposed to know there were people posted up outside his house? Hell, Brekker hadn’t even known. But it didn’t mean the man didn’t feel guilty. She had been in danger on his watch, again. Nowhere seemed safe for the woman at the moment and that was what rattled him the most.

The silence gave him time to think. Where would Brekker go? He had to move to a new location and fast. His apartment would have to be rented out to someone else, he couldn’t risk returning. He sighed, reaching for the phone on his bedside table. The numbers on the ancient phone set clicked as he dialed the number. “Hello? Yes, it’s me, I lived. Bring me The Lion. It’s the place on Charleston.” He spoke flatly into the set, setting it down without saying goodbye, per usual.

Brekker glanced back over at Emery, who had laid down. He figured it was best not to speak. Her eyes were sad, betrayed. The man had hurt her greatly and he knew it. She was heartbroken over the mafia boss who had killed a man in front of her. Emery still loved him and Brekker wished she could see that he did too. That he missed her, that he even though he was a twisted man Emery still held his heart in her palm.” Please Em” He wanted to beg, “Don’t look so sad, I never stopped loving you.” But Brekker didn’t. He couldn’t.

She wasn’t looking at him, but his eyes were vulnerable. Brekker had just been about to speak, his mouth parted when the door opened and a man stepped in. He was nearly six feet, with red hair that was unruly but handsome, with light blue eyes and a suit that accentuated every bit of his broad, taught body. “The Lion arrives,” Brekker spoke, facing the man, his dark eyes meeting The Lions pale.

“Please, that’s just a street name. Typically you call me Van Aslan.” The man spoke, his voice sounded like warm honey, sweet, and intoxicating. His full name was Nilo Van Aslan and he was one of Brekker’s closest confidants. He was a man who oozed money out of his ears, a silver spooner if you ever saw one. Instead of becoming the CEO of his family's alcohol company, he was one of Brekkers closest sicarios in the states and not a man to be trifled with.

“Okay then, Van Aslan. I need to be relocated to another building in the city, and my apartment needs to seem like I never lived there. All documents and things transferred and nothing left behind. You handle getting some tenants in there. I need this done cleanly.” Brekker spoke, his voice firm with authority.

“Jesus, that’s a mouthful. You didn’t even let me ask you how you were or about Miss Emery.”

“We’ll both recover. Now I need you to get this done and fast.”

“Yes sir,” A sigh, “I hope if I ever see you again Miss Emery, you won’t be in a hospital bed.” The man waved, exiting with his usual saunter. Brekker shook his head, laying back himself, flinching as he moved the injured shoulder. He rested his arms on his stomach, the unusual feeling of the hospital guard uncomfortable against his fingers.

Again he felt the need to speak to her, but could not bring himself to do so. For a man of few words, he was feeling awfully talkative. What would he even say? It was clear she didn’t want to talk to him, but not speaking just felt… awkward, especially given what they used to have.
