<< Kodaline >>
mentions: all, camino and valentia particularly

Kodaline knew he was late more so than his handler. She was even more scatterbrained than usual. First forgetting to stuff his toy with his meal, then leaving it behind in the storage area, she was all over the place. While his handler wasn't particularly good at keeping track of things, this wasn't the norm. He huffed, nudging the woman's leg with his muzzle when she opened the door to let him out of his kennel for the morning. It was about time, he had watched her frantic scurrying about quietly, leaning against the chain-link fence.

"Come," she handed him the oblong rubber toy stuffed with the second part of his meal, and without another word made her way down the hallway. Usually the woman talked to him, mindless chatter mostly, but today she didn't. Odd, but he shrugged it off as the result of being late. She usually didn't walk this fast, either. Huh.

Unlike most dogs, he never really had an issue with working off-leash. Koda never really wanted to go anywhere away from his person. He just had a small loop, something like only the handle of a lead, clipped onto his collar in case his handler wanted to keep hold of him. Not that he was going to do anything. It seemed like some of the people in the kennels were apprehensive of his size.

He ambled through the gate, slightly behind his person. She kept picking at her fingernails. Maybe something was wrong with them? Humans were weird, and the nervous woman was proof. Was there anything all that different about today?

He could see almost everyone else already in the field. Well, that was too be expected. At least he had gotten there after Frosch made his morning rounds, more than once he had slammed into Koda. The hound dog was there too, what was her name? Valentina?

Koda leaned against his handler's legs (gently, of course. Had he not been careful, he could have knocked her over entirely. Why such a small woman was the handler of the biggest dog on the team was anyone's guess.) After she scratched the scruff of his neck for a few moments, he trotted off toward the others. Usually, she pet for him longer, but he was glad to go eat his food.

Nodding to Camino and mumbling a quick "morning," around the awkward rubber toy in his mouth to the other dogs, he dropped the toy in a patch short but thick grass. Shaking out his fur before flopping down with a huff, he placed a massive paw on the black rubber toy. He surveyed his teammates, amber eyes landing on each one for a few seconds, checking in on them. It was partially a learned behavior from his training and partially pure instinct to make sure they were all okay.

His eyes lingered a bit longer than the others on the new dog. Something seemed off about her this morning, but he really couldn't place it. Maybe she hadn't slept well or something. She seemed nervous before she blurted out the question. Had something seemed off today? He didn't know, all he knew that his handler had been late.

"I was late," he huffed, a touch of humor on his tone, "I don't know about anything else. My person is just weird."

Oh, the topic of dreams had been brought up. Honestly, Kodaline rarely dreamed, and when he did they were either very good or very bad. Not something he enjoyed either way. "Eh, not really," he murmured before poking the rubber toy with his muzzle. Wrapping his jaw around it, he tried to crush it by the big hole to get his food out. Its shape was weird and he couldn't get enough of a grip on it to break it.

It had been a while since he had eaten out of one of these. Maybe he could just fit his muzzle into the hole enough to lick the food out?

Camino

Mentions: All indirectly, Frosch, Valentia, Koda directly

_____

Camino shook out her now dust-speckled coat - Frosch certainly made his presence known. It was then that Camino caught the scent of a familiar dog. Flicking her gaze towards the gate, as if on cue, Kodaline appeared. The large dog held a large rubber toy in his mouth as he padded forward, which wasn't an uncommon sight. He offered a quick greeting, and Camino responded in kind, with a simple "hey Koda".

Valentia soon brought up what Camino had been worried about.

So it wasn't just the wayfinder who had noticed. Something was different - and Camino found such a difference stressful. How would she figure out how to adapt when she didn't know what was coming? How was she to be prepared when she hadn't had an idea what to prepare for? Camino took a deep breath, eyes flickering away, and then back to the small hound. She would stay calm - not for herself, really, but for the others. She wasn't going to worry them any further, not when there was another option. That being said, Camino certainly wasn't going to cover up the truth. In thought, Camino had left a heavy pause between her answer and Koda's much quicker one; these lapses in answers weren't unusual for her, but often brought for a halted and awkward conversation with those she didn't know well, like Valentia.

"My person was a little off this morning, so it could be a new training simulation. Or maybe a test," Camino offered. She was leaning towards the latter, or at least something of more importance. Her handler was cool headed, and not one to be unsettled by anything, so whatever had set him off had to be important. She was sure - or, at least, she was determined to convince herself - that the team would be fine, whatever was thrown at them, even if they didn't know what was coming. Valentia had probably been prepared for most anything like the rest of them, so she was sure that the dog could handle anything that was thrown at her. Camino hadn't seen Valentia in action too often, but often enough to know that she was more than qualified for her job. Valentia just wasn't convinced of her own competance, despite her obvious skill.

The conversation shifted before Camino could follow up with Val. On to the topic of Frosch's dream questions, Koda responded, and Camino inclined her head, a faint trace of amusement in her features. "I don't think you sleep enough to have any dreams, Koda," she said, in a more joking manner than serious. Really, though, he ought to rest a bit more.

Camino flicked her attention away, fading into the background as she regarded the rest of her team quietly. There was a hush that had fallen over the gathered dogs, but Camino assumed it would not be long until Frosch broke it, launching into a sentence-that-went-on-for-miles. The handlers would come get the team, and they would follow and participate in whatever training the humans had outlined for them for the day.

With a yawn, Camino lowered herself onto her haunches, eyes flicking her eyes from one dog to the next attentively.

⁀➷ Geralt ⁀➷

゜The small one ゜Mentions: Everyone

The soft grass tufts pricked at Geralt's underbelly as he settled down beside Camino, his sweet eyes resting upon her multi-colored eyes. He could sense the tension in the air, yet he wondered why. Should the topic be put on the table? Should it be ignored? Geralt pondered about whether or not to address the subject at hand and possibly ease everyone's mind, yet the image came to mind that he could panic them further. Geralt's eyes widened as he saw a larger dog approach; Ajax. He wasn't as fond of this dog as the rest of his peers, mainly because of his dominant demeanor, yet he still favored him. Watching him alight beside Camino, he noted that he was wary to not step on Geralt. A small grin appeared on his scrappy features as he watched the scene with Frosch unravel. A shower of dirt rained upon Geralt, forcing him to let out a hearty chuckle as he replied to the upbeat dog. "Thanks for that, I needed a good reason to get bathed today,"

The long-legged creature bounded towards them like it was the last day he'd get to run. He stopped just moments in front of Geralt and the others, which he probably would've sent Geralt flying with a body-slam if Camino hadn't set a small barrier between the two. "Good Morning," Geralt greeted the two newer arrivals, Valentia and Frosch. Geralt eyed Valentia with calm eyes, almost deciding whether it'd be a good idea to lay beside and comfort her. "I slept like a log, if I'm speaking frankly- but I cannot remember any of my own dreams," Geralt tried to think back, but everything was dull and dark in his thoughts, so no idea emerged. Shaking out his newly dusted pelt, Geralt's small grin faded as they mentioned their owners. So they'd have to address the issue now. "I did notice that mine was acting odd, it smelt like she was almost sickly with the amount of stress that engulfed her. Perhaps we have a big job to accomplish today during training, I'm sure it's nothing we can't handle. Especially with a team like ours, anything is accomplishable."

Geralt gave off a light-hearted tone as he got to his small stubbed paws. He spotted a large brown blob emerging from the gate, it could only be Koda. The thing was too massive to miss. Excited, Geralt let out a small bark. The others had arrived in such a bunch that Geralt wasn't really capable of expressing much appreciation for their presence, yet Kodaline was large enough to be singled out. Practically hopping as a bunny would, he made his way over to the massive dog. Careful not to be crushed by the impending doom called Kodaline's paws, he managed to weave through his legs. Geralt let off a light snicker as Camino mentioned his sleeping schedule. Kodaline barely slept indeed, and it often made Geralt worry for his well-being.

"Morning Kodaline," Geralt peered from under the massive creature before darting forwards. His eyes had locked onto a small miniature tuft of rope lying limp on the ground. He skid himself to a halt, flopping over on his side as he grabbed the rope firmly with his delicate jaws. Doing a full rollover he managed to get back up, his head lifted high as he attempted to drag the rope over back to the small group they had going. The rope still dragged, causing him to occasionally trip over it more than he'd like to admit. Finally, he managed. Arriving, he plopped the rope beside Valentia, his tail wagging in the midst of the detective's presence. Geralt, always did this little move. He'd hoard every toy in a mile radius and just lay amongst them like they were his treasures. A very bad habit of hoarding, but who could care enough to stop it? Geralt back up excitedly a bit, flinging his head back as he pounced backward once more. How he wanted to play tug of war with a large dog. He quite enjoyed being flung around from time to time. And, he was feeling energetic enough to do so. Grabbing one end, he offered the other to anyone that would accept, muffling the words;

"Who's up to challenge the finest of warriors?"

Nur | The Brains | Mentions: everyone

The big Malinois, to no one’s surprise, was the first to sound the alarm. He uttered a low whine of happiness and shuffled to his feet, then bounced over to the front of his kennel, tail whipping into a frenzy behind him. Nur, in the kennel next door, raised her head and watched him. Captain, as he was called, was one of the few dogs in her team who could match her drive and motivation step for step. Throughout training, she had seen him work relentlessly beyond the point of exhaustion or defeat, seen him tackle impossible tasks. She trusted him completely.

She trotted up beside him and sat delicately at the front of her own kennel. After spending her entire life in this facility, she had grown accustomed to days that followed routines and schedules and allowed certain expectations to be fulfilled. Today was not one of those days, it seemed, as she recognized exactly one out of the three people who had clustered down the hallway from the kennels. That one person was her trainer, who stood by silently as the other people chattered in agitated tones.

"They’re not ready. Their success rate in the simulations aren't high enough. Just yesterday they came out to a 66% probability of success.”

“They don't have to be, only one. Anyway, we don't have a choice. Alpha is about to depart and their lead dog is displaying vision loss. Without the training to disable the device, there's no point in sending them at all, and we can't afford to prolong the departure."

"But this could throw the entire mission into jeopardy, and what about the-"

"Look, if you've done your job, they'll be fine. They would have been put into the field sooner or later. She'll know what to do."

Nur cocked her head, at rapt attention as she tried to make sense of the words. Captain's claws clicked against the floor as he tapped his anticipation, and she shot him a look of mild annoyance. It was distracting. She understood many of the words independently, but had difficulty stringing them all together into their new meanings, and the constant tap-tapping was making it hard to concentrate.

The two strangers lingered in the doorway while her trainer approached. She greeted him with a polite wag and a calm stretch as she prepared to be released. After some time trying to excite her with treats and toys, they had come to an understanding. Unlike some of her teammates, Nur was not an emotional or cuddly canine, and probably never would be. Nevertheless, she was certain her trainer knew that they shared a bond of trust and companionship.

"Hi Nur, ready to go? We've got a lot of work to do." Her trainer said as he let her out of the kennel. So far, so good. He always used those exact words at the beginning of a day. She often left the kennels first, too, although all the dogs were subject to regular one on one sessions at all hours.

Her suspicions rose when she realized that they were heading for the exercise yard. Usually they would go through some drills first. Her ears swiveled in agitation as she struggled to mentally adapt to this unforeseen switch, but she didn't resist as her trainer led her up to the door. He hadn't spoken much on their short walk, but then again, he rarely did. Pausing briefly at the door, he pressed a hand against the thick, coarse fur at the back of her neck and gave her a couple of gentle pats. "I'm sorry, girl. I wasn't expecting this."

Then the door opened and she stepped into the yard. Behind her, she heard him speak, "You guys have to work together now, okay? This is your team."

Her team? Nur stared, uncomprehending, at the assembled canines who had spread across the exercise yard. No, her team was waiting back in the kennels - what was he talking about? She recognized a handful of them by scent and even fewer of them by sight. There was a tall and slender looking greyhound, a spotted catahoula, a short-legged hound, a stocky and powerful looking mix, a massive furball of a beast that she couldn't quite identify, and dashing about below his huge frame, she thought she caught a glimpse of a small terrier looking dog.

"Team." She spoke softly before shaking out her fur and striding over to greet them. Despite the uncertainty of the situation, her tail was stiff as a flag, arched attentively over her back, and her pose was straight and confident. Yellow fur prickled a sharp warning along her spine, fully prepared to defend herself and her new position should she interpret any of them as being anything less than welcoming. They would work together at all costs. They must. The somewhat premature hackles masked whatever insecurities coiled sickeningly within, and she hoped her dominant aura would deter questions about the other dog. She wasn't sure she could explain that even if she wanted to, and as far as she was concerned, didn't owe them an explanation.

The terrier came bounding out from somewhere - he was so quick that it was hard to keep track of his movements - now dragging a rope toy. She blinked impassively at the small dog, a little miffed but nevertheless impressed at his energy. "I am Nur. We are a team now. I hope you all share your small companion's courage, because we have a lot of work to do."

Ajax | The Jack of All Trades | Mentions: At this point mentions is useless because he will mention them all

When he was closer, he noticed Camino's protective motion over Geralt, and he appreciated it, even though he was a little insulted that she seemed to think that he couldn't judge distances. He let himself be appeased by remembering that Geralt was small, and she might be worried that he wouldn't notice him until it was too late. Gracefully, he came to a stop. Ajax liked to consider himself a graceful dog, but he tripped over Geralt enough for it to be embarrassing unless he kept a bit of distance.

"That's nice," he shook out his fur before he made himself comfortable. Before he could say anything another dog joined them. Ajax nodded at Valentia. He didn't like how nervous she was. If she couldn't trust them enough to be relaxed during their time off, how would they be able to depend on her in the field? He wanted to put her at ease, but he didn't know the right words. He was glad that Camino made an effort. "Good morning," he didn't say much more expecting to have to talk to the whole group at some point, but didn't see the point in continuing when they were constantly interrupted.

He stiffened, when he realized that Frosch was running towards them. He liked to be active, but he liked to rest too. He was a little concerned for Geralt, but he was sure that Camino had it covered. He moved a little so that Valentia was shielded slightly. He was larger than her, and he doubted that being run over would put her at her ease. As the words spilled out of Frosch's mouth, Ajax's ears sort of deadened to him. He had a hard time listening and comprehending, even if he wanted to. Was there even a point to try to reply to him?

He gave a yawn and shrugged as a reply. If he got the time later, and someone was actually interested, he would give a more in depth reply. He gave a polite pleasant expression, "That sounds pleasant. I didn't really have any dreams." Ajax figured he would do whatever the group wanted to do. He had no real opinions or cared. He had no real objections, so he wouldn't be dramatic or try to cause needless arguments. He moved back to his former position once Frosch settled in. His ears perked up, when Valentia felt the need to mention that something odd had happened. Was he not the only one?

Perhaps he would learn something more if someone else didn't come along to interrupt them. He noticed an anxioius scent coming off of Valentia. He looked at her kindly, "Are you okay?" He wanted to know if he could help her, but he didn't want to ask quite that bluntly. "Morning," he nodded to Koda. He didn't offer much to the current information. He hoped that perhaps they had made things up in their minds. He went over closer to Valentia, "My owner wasn't as attentive as usual. I'm afraid I did something wrong," he ducked his head ashamed to admit his fear.

He looked towards Camino hopefully, "You really think so?" He normally didn't look toward others for comfort, and he normally was able to figure out things on his own, but he had been feeling guilty. He had been too concerned about himself to consider other options. He turned to Geralt, wanting a distraction. All of his normal quiet confidence flooding back. "I wouldn't mind taking a gamble at challenging you," he gave a snort of amusement. The last time they had done this between his strong jaws and weight, he stood there with the rope, while Geralt futilely tried to pull it away.

Eventually, Ajax would pull it towards himself or shake the rope until the smaller dog let go. On the rare occassion to keep things interesting, he let Geralt win. He wanted to play with Geralt, because he was a team member, and it was rude to avoid him, yet he didn't want to hurt him wrestling him. It would be better to do tug of war where he didn't need fully on body contact to play. Ajax turned stiffly on the newcomer. His gaze darted around. Where was their team mate? Why was she here? "Hello, can I help you?" he thought this must be a mistake.

Perhaps they were only supposed to train with her, and make sure that they had a back up team mate just in case. He stood up to his full height. He knew that if she was to fill the position that had been vacated, which seemed to be the case, she would be their leader. He didn't want a stranger for a leader, and he would be sure to challenge her at every turn. Was this what all of the oddness was about? His face showed his confusion. He considered ignoring her and going ahead to play with Geralt.

-Camino-
Mentions: All

Camino sat back and watched as Geralt swung the rope toy about, tossing it and shaking it as though the rope's destruction was Geralt's sole purpose in life. The wayfinder smiled at the smaller dog's challenge, though she had no intention of taking it if another dog was up for the game. No sooner had Geralt spoken, Ajax accepted the challenge - really, if one could call it that - and stepped forward. This would be sight to behold, that was for sure. Geralt had stubborn jaws, and seeing him flung around by the much larger dog was rather amusing - of course, considering Geralt remained unharmed.

It was only a moment later, and Camino's sharp nose picked up a new scent. Dogs and humans alike passed the pen regularly, so Camino was in no way concerned. It was normal. But the dog seemed to be getting closer to the enterance. It certainly wasn't Kyanite - where was she? Kya was never late.

Never.

It was somewhat of an odd day already, but the appearance of a new dog at the gate was very, very different. She was a medium sized canine, with golden sandy fur, large pricked ears, and a proudly arched tail. She carried herself regally, with confidence and pride, as though she owned the place. The dog showed no intention of turning around as she was released into the yard, and instead made a beeline for the team.

Camino remained sitting, head inclined thoughtfully. She was not at all fazed by the little blur of fur that was Geralt; in fact, she seemed remarkably calm. A well trained dog.

A team? She isn't a large protecting breed, and she's certainly not a tracking dog. The only role she could possibly have is Kya's role, if she has just announced herself a new team member.

Surely Kya isn't being replaced?

It was possible, Camino thought, that Nur could be a new addition, like Valentia was. That seemed likely, really. But Kya's uncharacteristic absence seemed like too much of a coincidence for that to be true. Was that why her handler had been so nervous? Why everyone had been? Had something happened to Kya? Camino doubted Nur would know - how could she - but Camino might ask regardless.

Ajax stepped forward before anyone else, confronting the dog. Immediately, Camino could see that this may not end well. The new dog radiating confidence and dominance - as did Ajax. Although she knew, or at least hoped, Ajax had enough self-control and restraint for anything to escalate too drastically, she was unsure about Nur. Camino couldn't judge a dog so quickly, and neither was it her place to do so. But the wayfinder assumed, at least, that this dog had some sort of discipline - highly reactive dogs weren't suitable for training and teamwork.

Camino didn't neccessairily want to say anything. She wanted to watch, to wait, to see how this might unfold. But if no one else was going to speak up, she may very well choose to. Camino stood, spotted pelt somewhat dirt-speckled. She always managed to ruin any grooming the humans did only moments later. Rolling in the dirt felt much better than the itchy skin the soap left in its wake. She'd think that the humans would have been able to compensate for her somewhat sensitive skin, which seemed to rebel against any manmade product applied do it. Not yet, it seemed.

Camino stepped forward, head raised, but not agressively so. Relaxed, her tail swung behind her. There was no fear in Camino's posture, nor neccessairily an obvious wariness, but a thoughtful curiosity, rather.

Camino considered asking the dog if she had come to replace Kya, but she felt that sort of direct inquiry would alarm the rest of the team. Regardless, it did need to be adressed, uncomfortable or not.

"Nur," she said, trying to secure the dog's attention, "are you a replacement or addition? Do you know?" Camino inquired, head tilted.

<< Kodaline >>
mentions: All, directly addresses Camino and Nur

Huffing gently as the little dog danced between his paws, Kodaline was careful to wait until Geralt was safely away from his large frame as he flopped down with a sigh. Rolling the rubber toy under his paw as his gaze scanned the nearby dogs. Thoughtful, his gaze fell on the nervous hound dog. Hopefully she would be okay. With their training intensifying as of late, it wasn't hard to tell that they would be departing soon. Or at least that was what Kyanite had said. She was smart like that.

Koda only replied to Camino's joke (was it a joke?) with a small "heh" and the good-natured flick of his ears as he began chewing on the rubber toy that held his food. Shoving it around with his muzzle, snuffing loudly, he tried and failed to fit his nose in the hole at the end.

Watching with mild amusement as the fast-dog dashed around the yard, Kodaline huffed as his attemp to crack the toy open failed. The rubber toy just bounced gently onto the ground. When Frosch wasn't constantly talking, he was rather amusing. What was even more amusing was Geralt. The little dog had considerable strength for his size. It was impressive, really, that he was able to keep a grip with Ajax, of all dogs flinging him around.

While Kodaline was never all that good at reading other dogs, he could tell Camino was amused. He spent a moment, thoughtful, with his eyes on her before realizing he was staring. Hopefully she hadn't noticed, the big dog didn't intend for it to be weird between them. Turning back to his toy, he seemed a little too interested in trying to get the food out.

His head shot up as the new dog entered the yard, toy still grasped loosely in his jaws. Who was that? She looked vaguely familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. The sandy-colored dog looked alert, no, more than that. Proud, maybe? She walked oddly stiff. She wouldn't try anything, right?

Kodaline had always been wary of dogs he didn't know, no matter how many times it had been made clear to him that they weren't a threat. His handler once told him that it was natural to be protective, or something like that. Whatever that was supposed to mean. She was kinda weird, but he did love her.

Still, Geralt's readiness to go greet her made him a bit nervous. Before he realized it, the big dog was on his feet, rubber toy still clenched between his teeth. It was hanging loose, he had torn part of the rubber toy. Good, now maybe he could finally eat.

Then the new dog spoke, and Kodaline turned his amber eyes back to her, the unfamiliar scent wafting in his direction. Reminding himself that she was probably another trainee that they were supposed to meet (or something like that), he dropped the toy and dipped his head to her before she spoke.

They were a team now? No, that wasn't right. There must have been a mistake. "What?" he questioned, shaking out his fur and cocking his head. Camino asked her something about being a replacement.

"Replacement?"

⁀➷ Geralt ⁀➷

゜The small one ゜Mentions: Everyone

Hold on for dear life. The very thought made Geralt's motivation rise by hundreds of levels. He would not let go. The bond between Geralt's small jaws and the toy clamped between his teeth would not go unnoticed, for it was unbreakable. There were a few times Geralt could have been mistaken for a bird, for he was practically souring through the air, and was small enough to resemble a fairly above average sized one. Whenever his jellybean paws did manage to make contact with the soft blades of green beneath him, he took advantage. One mighty shake with his head from side to side, ( his snout practically reaching his shoulder in the midst of it ) Geralt would've made a formidable foe if he was a tad bigger. He knew his effects on Ajax were worthless, hell, Ajax was more than three Geralt's tall! Cant. Give. Up. Geralt endured the tug of war that he so regretfully advanced Ajax in. Though, a few times Ajax gave in, letting Geralt make a few champion moves before he was completely flung around the next moment.

Thankfully, Ajax got distracted, but by whom? As Ajax let the toy loosely drop, Geralt erected his floppy ears forward, swiveling around to meet with a large blondish-tan colored dog. He hadn't recognized her scent due to only having smelled Ajax's breath the entire time they played. But, her aroma was familiar. He had seen her a while back, with a different team before. He believed she was more like their little leader, or captain of sorts. Much like Kyanite was to this team... But where is Kyanita anyway? The thought of the smart dog was intimidating, yet he managed to make a few peaks around the area, trying to spot the familiar white and black. But she was nowhere in sight. Already, before words could leave anyone's mouth, Geralt connected the pieces. The word "Team" that left her mouth allowed Geralt to confirm his theories. A gut feeling twisted in him as he wondered about Kyanite. Did she get injured? Is she hurt so badly she cannot perform? Did they merely switch her to a better-suited team? Geralt, going with the last decision, was getting a bit selfish. Kyanite was his teammate. She was perfect for the team, why would they want to replace her with another?

Pushing aside selfish thoughts, Geralt rested his mind and resettled it to face Nur. Her position she took was... tall, stiff almost, and proud. It gave off a dominance that Geralt only knew would clash with Ajax. His prickly fur along his snout moved a tad, as his whiskers stiffed outward. He felt tense as Ajax rose to his height, followed by Kodaline. Dropping the toy, he let his salmon tongue swipe over his own whiskers, allowing them to die down and not seem uncomfortable in this situation. Luckily, Camino quite frankly settled the situation better. Geralt, without hesitance, walked up to the sandy dog to greet her. "Hello!" All worried thoughts brushed away as sudden happiness entered him as she spoke of his courage. A chuckle, more of a giggle escaped him as he lightly bounced his way over to Nur. His immediate reaction was to get used to her scent, so he brushed along side her legs (The only place he could really reach) in a bright manner before addressing his name. "I'm Geralt, nice to meet you Nur," He popped out from below her chest, his lips curling into that odd smile he gave when he was beyond excited. His small upward-waved tail gave little wags, allowing his scruffy feature to loosen.

Then, so boldly, he leaped upward from under her, and let himself give her a lick under the chin. It was a bold move to confirm, especially to a new member, but eh. Geralt was too excited to hold back such feelings. He let out another hop, circling the dog before stopping in front of her. He was sure Frosch would do some exciting deer hop and greet her with the same amount of happiness, although may express it with a tsunami of words rather than a little butterfly kiss to the chin. How he loved meeting new dogs! Though, the continuous conversation got him to unsettle a bit further. Geralt pricked his ears forward, in a more friendly than alert manner. Replacement. Although he had hoped she was an addition to the team ( As everyone knows they could use a little more brains at the moment heh ) he knew she was a replacement. It could only make sense. Geralt knew that the others noticed this too, yet they were denying the fact in their mind to ease the situation. Clearing his little throat, he spoke up. "Welcome to the team, Nur!" Geralt let out a pitched bark on accident, allowing himself to hop back into the toy he dropped before.

He sniffed it a few times before gripping it wildly with his jaws. The toy, of course, dragged on the floor on either side of him, but that didn't stop him as he fumbled over himself bringing it to Nur. He stopped, quite close to the sandy colored female, looking up at her in a greeting manner. If she was new, she had to get used to Geralt's clinginess. Every member that joined the team, or when he had joined the team a long time ago, experienced this. Everyone here had a little Geralt kiss of their own, along with a happy aloof smile. Dropping the toy by her paws in a playful manner, he replied back to her last words about work. "When do we start?" The question seemed to spark the little Frosch inside of him, as more questions came to mind. "Who's your favorite out of all of his so far?" The question was more of a joke, as he seemed to push his clinginess against her, being the tad bit selfish it was.

He broke off into a sprint, skidding around the others before eyeing the rubber toy Kodaline had broken apart. He was tempted to address it by calling Kodaline by 'Ali' or Oda, for he always liked being more unique with nicknames. Brushing the thought off, he managed to make his way beside Camino, her sleek pelt comforting his eyes, she was truly a calming dog that held a wonderful aura to be around, and he had hoped his little move would get her attention off of Koda's stare, for Geralt knew that anything awkward between them would eventually have to be confronted. "Do you know if Kyanite was transferred to a different team?" With a more lighthearted idea, he addressed the situation, believing Nur to be Kyanite's replacement above the other things. He wouldn't want to worry the team by asking if she was injured, and had hoped that Nur wouldn't say anything vulgar is Kyanite was truly hurt.

Valentia | The Detector | M: Ajax, Geralt, Camino, Frosch, Kodaline, Nur (and anyone I may have missed xD)

Valentia glanced up at Ajax gratefully. She'd have hated to be run over by Frosch, though, at the same time, she wasn't sure if he'd just kinda leap over her, since his long legs tended to give him longer strides. She'd rather not find out the hard way, though.... maybe find something about her height and try it with that first. The detector watched as Ajax shrugged and yawned in answer to Frosch's question.

"That sounds pleasant. I didn't really have any dreams." The male returned to his original spot as Frosch stopped, and a large, fluffy dog came padding up. Kodaline, her brain whispered, remembering his name. The large canine held a chew toy in his mouth, and laid down near Camino and her, dropping the bone, and laying a huge, furry paw upon it.

"I was late," Kodaline's tone held a touch of humour in it. "I don't know about anything else. My person is just weird." He replied with a nonchalant answer to Frosch's question, then bent his head down to chew on the toy, albeit a bit frustrated, it seemed. It was one of those things that the humans somehow got food into, but you couldn't figure out how to get it out. She felt the irritation.... She hated those things, too. At least, she thought his expression was irritation. She stayed quiet, in case she was wrong. From what she'd seen of the group, she'd leave all the emotion deciphering to Geralt. He seemed to be one of the best at it. She looked up as Ajax came closer.

"You okay?" his voice seemed to hold concern and uncertainty, as if he wasn't sure what to say. She glanced down for a moment before responding.

"I'm, I'm fine... thank you for, for asking, though." She gave Ajax a small, almost weak, smile. "Just worried about this morning..."

The male sat near her, ducking his head. "My owner wasn't as attentive as usual. I'm afraid I did something wrong."

Despite her anxiety, Valentia quickly brushed against him. "I'm, I'm sure you haven't done anything wrong... Everyone's human seems, seems to be acting weirder today." You're so weak. Stuttering's not going to help him feel any better, Valentia! You're supposed to leave all the emotion stuff to Geralt anyway! You'd already decided on that... what makes this different?.... Maybe the fact that I could tell what emotion he's feeling this time? She blinked, quickly clearing her head as Geralt stumbled up to her, rope toy hanging out of his mouth.

"Who's up to challenge the mightiest of warriors?" his voice, muffled by the rope, announced boldly. In spite of herself, Valentia couldn't help but give the little dog a grin, tail thumping softly. She wasn't sure if he wanted her to play or not, but Ajax took up the challenge, flinging the poor dog around through the air. She was amazed at Geralt's endurance. He didn't let go once, even when his feet touched the ground. Her ears perked slightly, her head swiveling towards the gate of the yard as a new dog's scent flooded her sensitive nose.

From the smell, this one had stopped. Until now, the other dogs' scents had come and dissipated quickly, indicating to her that they had just passed by... but this one was still going strong. In fact, yep, the gate was opening. This dog was coming in. She had a sandy-colored coat, a dominant, confident pose, and she was headed straight for the group. Valentia's whole body tensed. She wasn't sure what this dog's intentions were, but she wouldn't back down from a fight.

Valentia stood, slowly walking closer to Camino, her eyes staying on the newcomer, who introduced herself as Nur, and announced that she was now a team member. The hound dog thought it odd that the humans would add another dog to the team; what specialty would this dog have? She wasn't large like Kodaline, so another protector was unlikely. Maybe another wayfinder? But why would they need two?.... Unless the humans expected the team to need backups.... But that was not likely, either; she was sure if that was the case, the humans would have already stuck them together, at least in training, if not here.

She wasn't a hound, so detector wasn't it, either. Valentia's mind kept ticking off the roles she'd heard the humans list, and none of them fit. They already had the brains; that job went to Kyanite. Speaking of Kyanite, though, where was.... unless.... Camino and Geralt seemed to think so, too. Valentia's gaze darkened in thought. Why would Kyanite be replaced? Valentia's ears tilted backwards slightly at this. Was Kyanite alright? It relieved her to know that she wasn't overreacting this time, though. Both Kodaline and Ajax seemed to be on the defensive, too.

What did this dog, Nur, know about this? Anything? Valentia was glad Camino asked her... The female's mind was still spinning from the thoughts that were bouncing around inside her head. Though not raised entirely, the fur along Valentia's back prickled distrustfully as she forced her gaze to the Nur's face, waiting for a response to the wayfinder's question.

Nur | The Brains | Mentions: Everyone but particularly Geralt and Camino

The spotted dog was the first to speak. She was slightly dirty, Nur noticed, not that cleanliness held any sway over capability. The dog approached calmly, tail wagging slowly and thoughtfully as she slipped past the stocky mutt who'd noticed her first. It was an understandably curious welcome. They were as good as strangers, after all, and Nur paused for a moment to allow her new team to get a good look at her as well as learn her scent. She would need to learn theirs too, but that could come with time.

Her tail twitched slightly in response as the dog approached, although it remained stiff and dominant rather than mirroring the calm and friendly mood of the spotted dog. It was a tense sort of excitement as she faced what she viewed as her newest and most challenging task. She was almost looking forward to it. Something new. Something to truly test her. At least until the question popped out. Well, it would have spilled out sooner or later.

"Replacement." She spat in disbelief, the word curdling on her tongue. The very idea was an insult to her. She'd spent countless hours training, perfectly honing her abilities and exceeding all goals and expectations. And for what? Not to stand here and abide slanderous insults from her team. For now not only had her appearance attracted the catahoula and the stocky mix, but nearly everyone else in the yard as well. The gigantic fluff ball spoke up, repeating that distasteful word, and her ears swiveled sharply in his direction, signaling her irritance at being called a replacement.

"I have trained. I have prepared fully for the task that lies ahead." She replied curtly, meeting the massive dog's eyes and sizing him up. He was clearly the largest and physically strongest of the group, a born protector. Perhaps the equivalent of her former teammate, Dandy, who was a wolfhound who towered over the rest of them. Her words tactfully danced around what little information she knew about their former teammate. While she could understand their concern for this other dog - she did, of course, share some affection for her former teammates, even if it was rarely obvious - she noticeably bristled at their confused recalcitrance while they mentally and emotionally struggled to catch up to the point where she already stood, waiting and ready.

This other dog wasn't important enough to discuss right now and would only create more of a distraction. The situation was tricky enough already.

Satisfied that she had answered to her own satisfaction if not theirs, she trained her gaze coolly in the direction of the hound and the burly mix who had been playing with the very tiny terrier and the rope toy. He had been somewhat dismissive when she'd first strolled in, and she wondered whether he'd prove to be another hardheaded but motivated athelete like her own Captain. Speaking of which, where had that tiny fellow gone? No sooner had thoughts of the terrier crossed her mind, than the dog crossed her vision, introducing himself as Geralt before bounding up joyfully and pressing against her in an overly familiar manner.

Surprised by his forwardness, she froze for a few seconds while she stared back at Geralt, utterly nonplussed at the small dog's bold display of warmth. The welcome was nice, she supposed, if a bit more cuddly than expected. They wouldn't all feel so compelled, would they? Her body relaxed a bit, hackles smoothing down, and although her tail remained upright, it wagged ever so slightly, stirred by a flush of sudden, assertive excitement.

"Thank you, Geralt. It's nice to meet you." She didn't smile when she finally spoke - and from the looks of it, had probably never smiled in her life - but there was a softness to her eyes when she addressed Geralt. The overlong rope toy, noted but untouched, lay at her paws where he'd dropped it as she continued, her tone the clipped and praticed words of someone seemingly accustomed to giving spontaneous speeches - or orders. "We start right now. We work every day. All day, and we work hard. We have something big to do. It's something that only we can do. The people are counting on us. They'll be coming soon, I believe."

Her ear pricked towards the gate as if expecting her trainer to show up at her word, although of course he didn't materialize. She didn't know the specifics of what would be happening, only that it was enough to scramble the people and involved a departure. Her attention was redirected again by Geralt as he chattered away, seemingly the quickest to adapt to the new addition. She let out a soft huff of bemusement, "My favorite? I admire your tenacity, so currently you I suppose, but I expect that may change. We will see."

Kyanite. Was that the name of the other dog? Nur bit back a grimace as she thought over what the people had said of the other dog earlier that morning. Vision problems. If that was the case, she was likely no longer a viable candidate for training.

Not the sort of news they'd want to hear - and she wouldn't share it anyway, if she could help it. The team didn't need to know that Nur was only a runner-up, a back up. Her youth in contrast to this new team had not been lost on Nur. Even the youngest probably had a good six months of age and more importantly, training on her. Her expression was flat and cool as she returned, "I don't know where Kyanite is. I have not seen her. I suspect the people will take care of her as they have always done with us. We have other things to worry about."
