So Hachi's usually a pretty good boy. Does as he's told, doesn't make a mess, sits and stays and pretends he's a good boy.
Tonight was a different story. We were hanging out with him outside by the garage while my dad was patching up his car. Dad drives the car back around the house and dog was not having any of it. So.... despite my grip on his collar, he managed to slip away and take us (mainly me) for a joyrun. At 10 o'clock. At night.
Stupid dog instigated a game of tag. So he'd run down to the next corner, wait for me, then just when I catch his eye, he'd turn and run to the next street corner. This bastard double-crossed me. At one point, he raced back my way and then past me.
When he finally lets me catch him (of course, at the other end of the neighborhood), he has the proudest look on his face. "This is what you get for leaving me at home for eight hours," I guess is what he was thinking.
We start walking home. Dog doesn't want to walk home. Dog wants to keep going the way he was going. So now, I get to haul this 80 pound (35 kg) beast back home. Tried picking him up, didn't make it more than half a block. Fortunately, my mom caught up in a car with a leash, so that's how we ended up getting home.
On the bright side, now I know I can run the full length of the neighborhood when I have enough motivation. On the downside, it was 10 o'clock at night and I quite wanted to go to bed.
We were thinking about bringing our dog for a nice long drive tomorrow. Now? This dumb dog is under quarantine.
Thanks, Not-So-Good Dog.
