Neat goats :3 Castaway looks like a cool dude XD Does his name means "cast away" on purpose? It's interesing name choice for rebelious looking male :3 Why did you decide to get goats? How are you taking care of them? Are they as smart as they say? Their square eyes are intimdating,right XD ? |

Castaway was probably given the name on purpose, I would guess. My brother's girlfriend is who used to own castaway before selling him to his new owner, and she seems like the type of person to give meaningful names to goats. ^^ I had really never thought about getting goats until my brother got a shiny girlfriend who owned a pretty sizable herd. She decided to sell most her herd, and give the best does to us, and we have goats now! They are now my third favorite creature on the planet. (She got rid of the herd because she and my brother are getting engaged soon. Don't mind my tiny moment filled with excited squeals. I mean, they're just so perfect for each other. They belong in a Hallmark movie. Sorry, I'll move on now.) I basically take care of them by giving them two flakes of alfalfa every day (7 am/ pm), and this is slightly more than they need, actually. I'll probably start giving them just a bit more every day in a couple months. Not too much, though, because their kids would start to grow large if they were fed too much, and then the labor would be extremely strenuous, with many risks. Continuing on, I have to make sure their water always stays full. (Fun fact, there are 7 goldfish in their water to eat the algea, and keep it relatively clean.) They also need a whole mineral with a large percentage of copper due to the low amounts of copper found in California. Then, they don't usually need to be bathed, but I need to bathe them now because they smell like buck (not a pleasant smell). I can always post pictures of them during bathtime this weekend, if anybody would like XD As for intelligence, I would say to imagine a 2 or 3 year old child. They're definitely inquisitive and quick to learn. They're probably slightly duller than a dog. So, yes. I would say they are as smart as is said. The first week I had them, they're eyes kinda freaked me out, but now I think they're adorable. Especially in the evening, when they're pupils become very large to adjust for the lighting.

Yes to bath pictures :D Thank you a lot on informations and it's great to here there are happy couples out there <3 This is bit weird question, but here anyway, I think these are your first goats ever? Or not? Anyway that's not what I wanted to ask-here,could you tell us how much money they'll cost as time goes? Like how pricey they are? Are goats conisedered luxury so they have some fees on them like owning a horse does? I know that healthy cat is about 80 dollars a month(food and sand), dunno how much dog eats XD And I'll stop bombarding you with this many questions I just got tad too excited XD |

Hurry, Alright, I'll be posting pictures of them being bathed this weekend, then! ^^ Yes, these are my first goats. I wouldn't have even considered getting goats if my brother's girlfriend hadn't wanted to give these quality does to us for free. As for the price of the goats, it always depends. Our goats are purebred and registered (as any doe kids will be), so they're worth more. We will most likely band all our bucks, but might be surprised by recieving a decent one (I would expect any possibilites to be from Stella). A purebred and registered doe can go for around $300, a buck can go for around $200 (we won't be expecting any, though), and a wether usually goes for around $80. Honestly, though, it all comes down to the kid. We might be expecting to recieve $300 does, and get something worth around $150. (I really hope this doesn't happen, as the breeding fee + care would make for virtually no income, or even loss.) There's no fee for owning our goats aside from their feed, water, etc. Also, I don't mind constant questions. I'm glad somebody else seems as excited as I am ^^ |
