I don't even enter the swamps now. I just go ahead and go to tundra and use one of my fishing poles and grind tundra for hours.

If you grind tundda instead, you make more mushrooms, and they have slims tickets, which drop from polar bears, and they can be used to reset the hot springs, which does the same thing as blue jay feathers.

Punk or goth looking bois, spiky collars, chokers, markings that look like dripping paint, peircings, odd colored eyes <3

Strange mutations, like more than two ears/eyes, multiple tails, spikes, scales, etc are also awesome :3

Edit: For overall pelts/markings, I prefer natural-ish looking designs with greyscale/brownscale or a combination of the two with some unnatural markings added on to make a design pop :3
