Lightbringer

Nikhika was out on one of her trips once again, having made up another excuse to get away from the pack for a while. She wasn't often a fan of following all the rules they had set up, and just kind of preferred to do her own thing. She liked the quiet ambiance of the forest when she was out, and often the camp was so loud it drowned out the sounds. There was a light breeze as she trotted through the woods, the sun slowly crawling down the horizon leaving the sky streaked pink, her favourite time of the day. The wind ruffled her fur and she deiced to make her way to a small pond that was just outside the edge of the territory. Nikhila visited the lake often, sometimes trying to catch fish, and other times just lounging around in the sun. The season is slowly starting to change to fall, leaves fluttering down every so often, creating a blanket like covering over the forest floor. She shakes her head as one falls on it, watching ti float down to the ground. The closer it got to winter, the more excited she got. She found it much easier to hunt, with how her pelt blended in to the crisp white snow. Safe to say she never really caught much when hunting in any of the other seasons. That alone was yet another reason she preferred to go off by herself. |

The year was 277 in the known wolf realm. The third month of Summer. As the blistering heat began to be replaced by a more frequent rain, there was also a gradual shift in the forest. Some of the trees had started to shed their leaves, turning shades of gold and rust as they prepare for the fall. The fields that were once full of wildflowers were now covered in dry grass, their colors fading as they wither away. In the midst of the fading forest was a pale white wolf walking by himself. Throughout the Summer, the abundance of food did him well, but still couldn't fix the emptiness in his eyes. A warmer shade of green, as striking as his father's. He inherited most of his father's traits: his thick build, his handsome features, his wirey fur. And his lack of direction in life. The young male seemed to blend into the forest, almost as if he was trying to disappear. He moved quietly, as if trying to avoid any unwanted attention or interaction. But in truth it was not so. It was because he had lost his sense of purpose, and was simply wandering aimlessly through the woods--hoping to magically find some meaning or direction in his life. His father still had his strong mother to devote his life to. Payada also used to have something to devote his life for--the throne. It didn't matter that the other pups had all the time to play with each other while he was out bruising his body trying to keep up with the pack's adults as they went on hunting expedition. It didn't matter that the adults cooed and crooned over the other pups except him, he was mature for his age. It used to worry him that the pup who was to be his future beta, Raksa, looked at him with indifference. It gave him relief that his former promised retainers, Lakeswara and Garin, treated him like a little brother and took care of him- even if they were actually younger than him. They were loyal, and they liked him enough at least. Perhaps that would be enough to sustain his future reign. Those were all for naught, now. When his mother was toppled from the throne by the third month of Spring, everything Payada was raised for all his puphood crumbled. Raksa took over the title Alpha's Heir without a hitch. Perhaps Payada should be thankful that Raksa did so without saying any taunting word to him. Not even one word, in fact. Raksa simply accepted his new position without showing much emotion, as if it was the natural order of things. And Payada was left with one nagging question: what should he live for, now? |

The breeze was more pronounced, the scarcer the trees got as she neared the lake. Her thin fur did nothing to keep the wind from blowing right through her fur. She liked to travel here a lot to think. Her mother was growing older by the year, and she worried a lot. She had no full siblings currently, and she didn't really think her mother was going to have any more pups any time soon, which was a shame. She, of course, would still have her three half siblings, (Whit, Yaz, and Peeta), but it wasn't really the same. They were on her fathers side. She didn't have much of a relationship with them either. It was no matter, though. Ontop of her mother aging, the current Alpha's had already chosen their heir's, who were to start training as soon as they came of age. That was coming rather quickly. As soon as she reaches the bank of the lake, she picks a nice spot to lay down, crossing her paws one over the other. Even if her mother didn't have any more pups, Nikhila had nothing against having her own. It could be fun even, having new pups underfoot. Perhaps soon. The reeds brush together gently, and she sighs, watching a frog hopping along on a lillypad and under the surface of the water. Despite her misgivings about the Pack being under new law soon, she ws optomistic that the right choice could and hopefully was made when the young wolves were chosen. |

Payada kept walking, oblivious to the trees growing scarcer around him. The air grew thicker with scent of water and moss. His eyes saw the dance of the dragonflies overhead, yet it didn't quite register to his mind to check where he was. He had gone dangerously close to the edge of Jawa's territory where a lake marked the border. The scent of the water comforted him, lulling him closer. Payada's name was a strange one- meaning Water Maker or Cloud. Yet it suited him in a way, the way he floated through life, and felt great comfort near water. His parents could not breed this season, and therefore he could not leave the pack yet as there would be no Beta Heir to replace him. Roro could breed last year when she was a beta because she and Hayam were not a pair, but currently his mother was already pair-bonded to his father to life. A pair-bond for life. How lovely, he always thought. He, too wanted it, if he only could leave and start a pack on his own with a lovely female, he would take her to reside near a lake like this. Raise pups here in the edge of the forest where it's peaceful and prey is abundant. No need to conquer new territories for- Payada shook the heretic thought off his head. He wouldn't want to evoke the anger of Goddess Ciriin. He apologized to Her in his head quickly, murmuring prayers as he stood still by the side of the lake. The sun moved the air above the lake, causing gentle breeze to caress the top of the purple lilypad flowers, carrying the scent to him and taking away his words of prayers away in return. The male was in the presence of an unknown female, yet he was too wrapped up in his thoughts and prayer to realize it. |
