Adrastros

"Do you ever just, like, shut up?"

Male | 10 y/o | Pitbull Mix

Name Meaning
Greek; not inclined to run away

Nicknames
Adra, Ad, Stros. He could honestly care less.

Birthdate
September 9th

Zodiac Sign
Virgo

Sexuality
Heterosexual

~~~
Appearance
Stros is something of a mix breed, though appears to be more or less a pitbull. He stands roughly around twenty-two inches at the withers, weighing in only at seventy-some pounds due to scarce food, and even lower in the winter. His build is lean, minimal muscle, as his old age prevents him from becoming too active. In his younger days he was more filled out and more defined muscle, but now, it's barely even there.
Stros has a round head and a shorter muzzle, with a black nose. His ears are floppy, some may say that they look a bit too small to fit on his head as that appears to be the most largest part of him. To keep it simple, he appears to be a bit disproportionate due to his eating habits and little activity. He's scrawny and small, and nothing is more funnier than when he looks at you and you just see his big head.
His coat is rather beautiful to look at. He has a light brown base color, which is covered by black brindle markings all throughout his body. He has a white patch on his chest, but otherwise, everything else is rather simple - brown base with brindle markings that are dark. This applies to his skinny and long tail as well.
Stros has plenty of scars from his young days as a reckless pup. Stupid accidents to harsh fights, the main one can be seen across his left shoulder. It is rather prominent due to his short fur and scrawny frame. There are distinctive bite marks and scratch marks, and this was from a fight with another male on the streets to take food. As Stros says "Never again".
Personality
Adrastros is not the most welcome male on the street. He's rather cold and reserved, and normally keeps to himself. Why have someone with him if it's just another mouth to feed? Though he's had former companions, he's normally the one to make the departure and the connection end - he doesn't like company most of the time. He's a solemn canine, and nothing will ever change that. He's been this way for a while.
Adrastros has a reputation for being quite ruthless. Though old, he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. He'll work till he drops, and he will not stop at all. Even if it means death. He does things for himself, and for that, he is selfish, and very rarely will he ever do anything for anyone else - it's just too much work. Or as he puts it - "Pointless". That's how it works for him, and it's the only reason why he really gets things done. He doesn't let anyone stop her.
Now, he isn't necessarily stubborn, but he knows what's good for him. Adrastros has this tendency to continue to do something, then when somebody makes a valid point, he still does that thing, then eventually he will think on it, and decide whether or not to stop or keep doing it. It's quite the process, but honestly, it's better than no process.
This doesn't mean that Adrastros cannot care for you. He appears to be rather intimidating because of how solemn and blank he looks, or unamused, but he can care for you. If you have ever made an impact on him, then there you go - he will care for you. There are times where Adrastros may begin to like someone because they made him realize something or helped him out in a time of need, but for the most part for him to care for you, Adrastros has to genuinely feel a difference.
His main priority with relationships is loyalty. Not caring, loving, but being loyal is what matters most to him. Cause you can care about someone or love someone and still stab them in the back, ya know? So if you prove you can be loyal, Adrastros will more than likely take you in one way or another. If you show certain things to him, he will return that same vibe. So if you're an asshole? He'll be an asshole back. If you're kind? He'll soften up a little. Basically, Adrastros really radiates energy based on those he is around. However, being around young dogs is a different story.
Adrastros prefers those in his age range to be around rather than younger dogs. The reason being is because you might remind him too much of what was taken away from him, and that feeling of being reminded of what he did wrong is not a good one. Although most younger dogs don't stick around much, the few that have made Adrastros soften up a lot before he became that same mean grumpy dog.
Mate
None.
Offspring
Adrastros took in a young male pup by the name of Alexander before he was killed by getting hit by a car. Adrastros blames himself for this, and the reason is something he doesn't like to talk about. So no, Alexander wasn't his biological son, but grew pretty close to it.
Sire
Probably dead. He was named Hunter.
Dam
Probably dead as well. She was named Feather.
Siblings
All unknown whereabouts, but has two brothers and three sisters.
Other
I will be periodically adding more to this, but for now, he's done <:
Trixie
'Tricky'
.
"Let's race!"
.
[Breed]
Mutt
.
[Gender]
Female
.
[Age]
Five months
.
[Appearance]
Standing at around 21 inches and weighting in at 54 pounds, Trixie is definitely a mix of somewhat larger breeds. She has a bolder build, with a wider chest and longer legs. A large head shows she still hasn't grown fully, as she had a rather sporadic growth spurt.
Trixie has two flopped ears that is perked atop her head, and dont provide the best hearing. Her snout isnt long, but it also isnt short. This canines tail curls on her back, similar to that of a Akita. Even with a rather skinny physique, Trixie looks well fed. To balance it out, her paws are smaller than the average. This can have both pros and cons.
Trixie's fur is very thick and wooly, and can provide warmth. But be warned- she sheds. It's a dark chocolate black color, with soft brindle of lighter brown and creams. It is especially prominent in her back and tail. On the underside of her tail it fades into white. On each paw, Trixie has a "sock". They are easily dirtied, and are normal seen muddy. Her snout is white, and has a smudged stripe up between her eyes.
Hazel eyes compliment the white on Trixies face. A little black nose contrasts with the white, and her pads are the same black. Her pads are still smooth. A mouthful of baby teeth are making room for her adult teeth, which will fully grow in in a handful or so of months.
.
[Personality]
+ Sweetheart + Playful + Optimistic+
~ Curious ~ Cautious ~
- Clingy - Talkative - Uncooperative -
Trixie is a very curious puppy. She'll talk and talk, day, night, whatever. Whenever the female feels like it, even in the mist dire situations, she will perk up and speak. Even if it's to herself. Trixie tends to wander off alot. She got lost chasing butterflies once, it's just her nature. For all anyone knows, Trixie would follow a random being around until they acknowledged her.
Trixie gets easily attached to things. Friends, humans, family members. It's hard for her to let go. When she was given to her human family and taken away from her mother, it took the puppy a while to mourn. She always thinks the worst when to comes to these things, no matter how innocent she seems.
Despite her cling demeanor, Trixie is a sweetheart. Yes, at times, she can get a little close to other canines. She's just a little puppy in the great big world. Things can get hard at times.
Trixie is instinctively cautious. She was always told to be careful of who she trusted, by her mother and relatives. It seemed they knew something she didnt. Not that the puppy cared yet, so far, her life was nothing but fun and games.
Trixie is a play being. She loves to romp around and run, its actually one of her favorite pastimes. The puppy will roll around in dead leaves, it's the fun, not the consequences. Trixie got her nickname, Tricky, from the one time she got herself stuck halfway in a birdcage. "Y'know, this thing sure is Tricky!" ~Trixie, to her littermates.
Trixie is rather uncooperative. She wants to do things her way, when she wants.
.
[Other details]
Hope she is good for now. <3
It was that cool breeze that allowed the older dog to feel something again. A shiver down his spine that would chill him to the bone, which he felt his entire body shake. He cringed at the feeling slightly, only to readjust his current position. Originally, he would be laying on his side, but now, he sat up with is from claws crossed over one another. Adrastros hadn't done much today, but that was nothing new. He had started slacking off about two years ago when everything went downhill. When he lost everything he had ever known. But hey, nothing good lasts forever, right?
Adrastros grunted slightly as he decided to rise to all fours. His muscles were no more, barely existent, and instead, his slim stature turned into some scrawny, little-fed male who looked oddly disproportionate. That's just what the streets had done to him, and to be fair, that wasn't entirely his fault. It just depended on if others were wanting to get in is way or not. Sometimes the male would ponder whether or not if it was worth going on like this, but now he figured he only had a few years to live out before he inevitably met his death. He was surprised to even be this old on the streets, yet here he was, lurking around in alleyways, waiting for humans to dump food waste that he could get a decent score from.
Adrastros inhaled the air. It was fall, the colors of the leaves changing and slowly falling off of their respective branches. The humans would be wrapped up in warmer clothes and more layers than normal, and more and more would be getting warm beverages. Adrastros wished life was just as easy as the humans had it. They had access to practically anything - warmth, shelter, food, water... family. Maybe Adrastros envied them in a way.
Adrastros shook his head, pushing all thoughts to the back of his mind. That wasn't the main focus. Instead, his angry stomach would growl at him. Adrastros would sigh out of disappointment. It had been days since he last ate something decent. Or even half-decent for that matter, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. He looked around for a moment, sticking to the alleyways. That's where most garbage bins and dumpsters were.
At first he could barely smell anything, but as Adrastros slipped through different alleyways, a familiar stench of chicken flooded his wise nostrils. He could smell that from miles away, though not literally, because his old age prevented that. With a slight chuckle out of relief, Adrastros managed to reach it without issue. This area of the city he was in was relatively dead, therefore there weren't many other strays lurking around. Of course the rare traveler would come through, but Adrastros always made it clear that he was in fact the general 'owner' of this side of the city.
The side he was referring to was the shitty side, to be honest. Little food, crime, plenty of weirdos on the street. Though he would take those weirdos for granted sometimes because they felt pity for old Adrastros, and well, would give him some food if they had any. Adrastros felt grateful that there weren't too many other dogs in this area, but sometimes, he would grow lonely. He huffed in consideration that maybe someone was wandering around, but he decided not to think too much on it.
Adrastros spotted the garbage can that had the chicken just sitting in it. He looked around for a moment. There were no humans, no other dogs, no stray cats. This was going to be perfect, he told himself. He first nudged the side of the can, but to his demise, it was more heavier than he had anticipated. With a slight grunt, he got onto his back legs and placed his front ones on the top, managing to push it down and open the top.
Jackpot!
Adrastros wagged his tail. "Finally, something good," he muttered to himself before starting to wolf down each piece of food he could find, or that at least looked half-appealing. Eating rotten pizza was not in his ideal meals, but hey, you got what you got, right? The stench from the bottom of the can made him cringe, and with that thought in mind, he picked up any remaining chicken and backed away from the can. In a way, he wanted to gag, though didn't. He wanted to keep his food down, not throw it back up just to feel empty again.
Adrastros began heading back towards his 'home', which really was just an alleyway that was clear of everything that he had claimed as his own. Nobody really crossed into that side of the city anyways, so he didn't have much to worry about. Nobody was genuinely sane enough to stay where he did, so it was a win-win.
No company and no complaints. What a world.
Adrastros continued on, following along the familiar buildings. There were restaurants, though weren't that popular, and plenty of small thrift-stores and other miscellaneous shops. What did humans find so amusing about thrift shops and weird antiques? He never understood it, and for the two years Adrastros spent with humans, they were rather intrigued by small trinkets. They had some sort of value, obviously, but it wasn't sentimental or anything. He just found it... Odd.
The male had finally reached his familiar alleyway, drool running down the sides of the chicken and the mouth as he had longed to finish his meal. And he did just that - wolf down the rest of it, leaving very little left as he had ate more than he had anticipated.
Where were they going? Trixie was packed up with her humans, who didnt seem to paying much attention to the puppy. She barked and sniffled playfully, jumping forward onto the center console of the front seat. The man in the passenger seat just pushed her back onto the floor in the back. That sure wasnt normal. She finally just gave up, laying down behind the driver's seat in defeat. Then the car stopped. Trixie perked up, eyes lighting up with excitement. A tail wagged clumsily behind her. The girl in the driver's seat got out, grabbing the apple box from off the seat, quickly snagging Trixie off the floor. She yelped in protest, but they placed her in the box and set it just off the road.
.
What? Memories were flooding back to her. Mother had given birth in an apple box, all five of them. They lived on the side on the road! Why were these loving owners abandoning her like this? The car drove off, leaving the defenseless canine to fend for herself. Trixie knew some things, that she needed food and somewhere to stay. That was all. Mother had never taught them how to fight, after all, they were barely weaned when the humans gave them homes.
.
Trixie whimpered, glancing around to figure out where she was. She was somewhere quiet, that was for sure. Not many cars passed, there wasnt the same hustle and bustle as the city she'd been to when they had walked around on the sidewalks. Warily she hopped the box, hunkering down on the cold concrete below her trembling legs. Trixie took a step forward. Her nose twitched. Food? She hadn't noticed how hungry she was before, and now her hunger clawed at the puppy's belly like angry cats. The canine raised her head high, nose snuffling as she tried to find the source of such a luring smell.
Trixie decided to try and find it, but found herself hiding in another box, wet and cold from when a car passed and splashed water up onto her. She knew it was getting closer, and her gut was telling her to go find it, yet she didn't want to. Licking her chops Trixie hopped back out of the box, trotting down the deserted sidewalk.
.
Then she heard something.
.
It was a clatter, a crash. Like something falling to the ground. It was metal. The smell had definitely gotten stronger! Maybe whatever she smelled was inside whatever had fallen. A cooler, maybe. Trixie knew some of the small ones were metal. She had frozen when she heard the sound, but got back to her hopeful trot quickly. After a couple minutes of searching, a strewn out garbage can came into her view. Someone had definitely been there before. She sniffed around, but didn't really find anything other than some orange peels and a few scraps off a bad steak. Trixie gobbled whatever was edible, but that still didn't satisfy her hunger. Maybe she'd have to find some help. Even if it was something she didnt want, she'd rather live than die out here, starved of nutrition her growing body needed.
.
Trixie began to call for something. It was a dumb move, but it was all she could do. There wasnt no button or special saying that magically made her understand everything. No matter how much she wished that was the case, the newly found stray had already figured out it wasnt as easy as it looked being out here alone. It was cold, lonely, and it didnt have any kibble. Trixie found herself wandering around, she almost got hit by a car when crossing the street, but other that, it was boring so far. Only one cat had hissed at her so far, she guess it wasnt so bad?
.
Going back to her first plan. She walked down the alleyways, called for help. Trixie was starting to get cold, and was sad. Why did humans abandon her this way? Yes, she sheds and likes to play, but that didnt make her worthy of being left out here. Maybe it was for the better anyways.
.
One last alley she walked down, whimpering. "Hello?" Was all Trixie called out, and assumed she was alone. She walks down a little further and sits down. The puppy looks at her paws, feeling lost. She slumps over. It wasnt worth trying to find somewhere safe to sleep, Trixie was tired.
That silence could be appreciated. The slight breeze of the atmosphere created a cooler environment, and for that, Adrastros could for once thank the heavens. He wasn't one to pray or to hope, nor did he have much faith. Why would an old dog like him have that anyways? He's close to the end of his time, and at moments like these - quiet and peaceful ones - he ponders why he hasn't been taken. Did the gods have plans for him? Was there still more for him to reveal about himself? Adrastros shook his head. No. He'd done enough revealing. He knew who - what - he was, and there was no changing that.
In the distance, there was a slight change in the surroundings. Adrastros, although slowly dying each second as death neared him, could still sense it. It was a change that wasn't drastic or terrifying, but rather one of softness. There was a presence around that wasn't harsh or threatening, but that of a youngster. A real, true, youngster - not a dog half of Adrastros' age. That's all he had really come across of until now. A whiff of the air, and with it came the wrinkling of his nose.
Definitely a puppy.
Adrastros took a glance at his remaining food. He could eat it, or the cruel male could be nice for once in his life and help this puppy. Obviously it was nearing him as the scent increased intensity, and Adrastros cringed slightly. He groaned before hearing something of a call - a longing for help, perhaps. If that's what you wanted to call it, but hearing the small puppy call for heart reminded Adrastros of his younger days.
Life on the streets was never easy as a pitbull mix. With a bad rep and seemingly harmful, Adrastros was never like that. He was scared, weak, and he recalled the harsh rain that fell. He shivered in the cold, watching the people pass by as he curled in the alleyway in a too small of a cardboard box for some sort of shelter. He had eaten that day luckily, but that feeling of warmth and comfort, he longed for. With that thought and memory in the back of his mind, Adrastros went wandering around, hoping, praying for some sort of shelter. He cried, yelled, screamed as loud as he could. And for being a disturbance, he paid for that.
But now, those roles were reversed. Adrastros now was the old, grumpy dog who despised everything around him and this puppy was a younger, naive Adrastros who longed for something they couldn't get all because they were too weak. Adrastros shook his head. There was no point in reminiscing in this time of need... for the pup. Adrastros couldn't stand that resemblance, and in a way, it truly bothered him.
A glare had landed on the puppy as she came into view. She was one that had been recently cleaned - cleansed and cared for. Humans had dropped her off somewhere, and by the looks of it, far away. Adrastros was out of her line of sight though as she had trotted down an alleyway. With his remaining food in his mouth, Adrastros trotted towards her.
"Here, kid," he said, dropping the chicken. "Take it," he added, looking at her. She was tired, definitely, and Adrastros could already feel that in his own feet. It wasn't that he was sleepy, but rather his bones were too old for moving around this much. Sometimes he wished he was still young, but in the sense that life would still be easy and not as harsh.
Now it was just hell.
