Sundew frowned slightly "t-that's a lot..." This place was confusing .

"Yeah, we are given extra nutrients so we actually evolved to lay more eggs," I said warming up my stomach by charging my fire but not letting it leave.

"That's interesting" Sundew said somwhat interested

I just sat there patiently, my access was limited. All of a sudden one of my friends I used to sit next to in the brooding room walked in. "hello!" I greeted her with a cheerful greeting

"oh wow you have a large clutch to take care of, no wonder you are on the list for the possible caretaker of the queen's clutches!" she said

"so it's not a rumor is it," I asked my expression dropping

"Unfortunately yes, unless you find a mate before next season." we both looked at each other doubtfully.

"We both know that probably isn't going to happen, I will be occupied in my den, alone, with a clutch. When I can leave my den with them I will be too focused on them to chat." I said and she gave me a sympathetic look

"yes, I just managed to find a suitor, of course, he asked permission to court me so I have been on work leave so he can pursue his attempts. You know if they don't make you brood the queen's eggs they are probably going to want you to be courted so you can be a breeder and produce more maternal hatchlings. The humans and some elder dragons noticed that clutches like yours have had more maternal instincts than the rest." She said

"Alright, honestly I would prefer that than be forced to serve as a brood dragonet,"

"that is understandable, sorry to change the topic but who is this lovely lady," she said motioning towards sundew "You are absolutely gorgeous," she said, admiring her scales.

"Uh, hi" Sundew said fealing a bit self conscious "I'm Sundew" she flicked her tail nervously , trying not to make eye contact with the other dragon.

"Awww, she's shy. Anway I might pop in to check in on ya and keep you company, See you again later!" She said walking ut of my den

what a weird dragon Sundew thought. Not thinking much of it she asked " who was she? and what was she talking about? "

"It's hard to explain when you haven't grown up in the clan, it normally doesn't get explained unless you are eligible for it." I said with my head down a bit

"Well, ok." Sundew , paused" anyways... How are you? "

"I could be better, could be worse," I spoke with almost a sad tone at the end. "I would prefer to be brooding the eggs in the brooding chamber, that way I could at least speak with other females. Unfortunately when you are given a clutch with more than 12 you are required to care for it in solitude till they are old enough. It makes it easier to manage them, and helps them see if the female needs an extra wing in raising them too."
