Jay tried not to be bothered by Celine's attitude toward their alpha. He was loyal, and he thought she should watch her tongue while she wasn't trusted. However, he understood that their alpha was challenging at first.
He kept his eyes cracked and peeked at Celine, curious what she was up to. He was about to nudge her, when Beau appeared looming over.
“What?” Jay asked.
“You were sleeping with her?” Beau cocked his head.
“I didn't want her to be lonely. No one was being very welcoming.” Seether had been the nicest by tolerating her, and their alpha had been pushing his weight around.
“Come on Celine. We don’t have room for layabouts.” Beau bounded over to a hunting patrol led by Widow.
It was odd hearing her name instead of some derogatory comment, but Jay nudged her making sure she was awake. “Come on. How was the night? How are you feeling?” Last night he thought he had smelled some sadness, but he thought he should let her think that he hadn’t noticed unless she wanted to tell him about it.
“No. Not you Jay. You have to stay here with alpha.” Widow commanded, when she saw them coming.
Jay sensed that they wanted her to feel alone. Why? Shouldn't they be showing how good the pack could be? Didn't they want her to be loyal? He didn't remember the process being so trying and difficult when others had joined. However, he did have to admit that this would really show them what she was made of. Hopefully, this was wisdom and not untoward meaness pouring out of them.
"Good luck," he made his tone upbeat, as he headed toward his alpha for the directions of the day.
Seether began to walk over to him. "Y'all get to stay with me and look for stuff. I doubt we'll be able to find anything, but I figured we should be searching. Some of you will help look and one of you gets the important job of look out."
It was rather odd seeing this sightless wolf telling their alpha what to do, but no one ever contradicted Seether. He noticed that while Beau was heading out with the Beta and Celine, Silver was staying behind. "Shouldn't there be more in the hunting party?"
"We want there to be enough wolves to protect the healer." Rosencrantz huffed. "Come on. Let's go."
Widow nodded to her group. They had their two best hunters. Perhaps Celine was good, or maybe yesterday she was hungry. It was time to see what she could do. "Would you like to lead the hunt?" she asked Celine, her voice was saccharine sweet.
Beau's gaze darted to her eyes surprised, and Widow communicated through her facial expression to calm down and just go with it. It didn't take long for Beau to reconfigure his face to one of impassive nonchalance. She nodded for Celine to lead the way or at the very least point them in the direction of prey.
"Which way do you approach the prey?" It seemed that Beau had taken upon himself to be a mentor figure, or maybe he thought that Celine was stupid. The question was so elementary. Perhaps he was being condescending. A wolf on her own would have to know the answer or she probably would not have surivived that long. "Look. Some water. Do you want a drink?" Widow asked. If she took a drink, Widow planned on asking her to smell for prey.
