Yenz sat, propping his elbow on his knee. "So..." He kicked a pebble, watching it tumble down the hill. "How are things? We haven't seen each other in a while." He turned to look at Kayla, studying her.

I stand for just another second. "Everything is fine." I lie. Because the truth should never see the light of day. I think I am pretty good at lieing. I sit down and pull my knees to my chest. That is when my tell seeps through. I crack my knuckles. I hate the sound, but I can't help but do it.

He glanced at her before turning back to the lake. He knew she was holding something back, but he didn't want to push. He glanced at his hand, heart racing when he saw a small whirlwind growing in his palm. He pressed it to the hills, snuffing out the tornado.

I stop my hands. Looking up, I spot the wind disappearing. Probably nothing, right? He asked me something. I should ask him. I think before saying "How have you been?" I shift my weight to the other leg. While sitting, it is a little awkward, but I manage.

He shrugged. "Still not ready to move into the city. Too many people." He shuddered. Too many people that I could wipe out with a flick of my wrist, to be exact. He reminded himself. "A few days ago someone started chopping trees down close to my cabin, so that was great confronting them." He wrapped his arms around his knees.

I smile a little. "Sounds like you had fun." I say. I can feel some discomfort in my lower back. Feels like I will need to check it later. But right now, Yanz gets my full attention. I angle my body slightly towards him. No use being some introverted grumpy human. Yanz doesn't deserve that.

Yenz laughed. "He chose trees a hundred feet from my cabin. Didn't understand thatI can't move my home and he could just cut trees down miles away from my house and still be in the forest." He stretched his legs out in front of him, resting on his elbows.

I smile a little more. "People are stupid." I say. "Wow, I don't think I have said anything that carried that much truth before." I add. I tense one leg before relaxing it again. Why I did that, no clue.

He grinned, watching clouds pass overhead. "That's probably the easiest way to describe our species." He said, squinting through the sunset rays. A bird came fluttering down from the sky, and he reached his hand out. Yenz glanced at Kayla, making sure she couldn't see the miniature tornado forming in his palm. The bird nipped at a leaf twirling through the air.

I ignore the wind. The bird is much more interesting. They don't speak in words, per se, but they might as well. "Oo! Leaf! Nom! Did you hear that Mrs. Featherbottom has laid another clutch of eggs? No? I suppose not. You are just a leaf after all." She says. I stifle a laugh.
