Zahra agrees,"We must have been asleep for a long time. No doubt from a sleeping spell cast by the gods." Zahra moves to Khnurn's side, moving forward as well. "If the spell has broken, it means either the gods lifted it... Or perhaps they are gone and the magic collapsed." Zahra's lips thin,"Either way, we are awake, and the only thing we can remember is our names and the words save the world. Everything else is not our memory, nor our knowledge." Her eyes flicker upwards,"Whatever awaits us outside... I sense it will not be pretty."

As the two entered the narrow corridor, Zahra had to drop back behind Khnurn. Her eyes skim the walls, hieroglyphs... Many of them. Some were glowing, some were half glowing, and some were completely faded. Zahra murmurs,"Are these the wards?" It would make sense... That many hieroglyphs meant a lot of magic. It could explain why they were asleep so long and why no one had ever found them.

"Yes, I believe we are." Zahra stops to, though she was close to running into Khnurn, so she takes a few steps backward. At the mention of the garbs, she looks down at the black linen clothes on her. "I suppose we will have to find somewhere to get more... updated clothes." Zahra frowns,"Although we have no money..." She did not particular care of what she was wearing, but Khnurn was right. Walking out in ancient clothes with ancient weapons? There was no need to draw unwanted attention.

A sound behind her caused Zahra to turn around slightly. The creatures, they were following in a single filed line, with the griffin at the front. Zahra mumbles,"Forget our appearance. What about them? It seems they will follow us. And while I believe we could explain our clothes and weapons, I do not believe we can explain the creatures... Creatures that.." Zahra frowns, her eyebrows furrowing,"I... From the knowledge in my head... I don't believe these creatures exist in the modern world anymore."

"Oh."

He'd been so caught up in his thoughts about how they were going to blend into a world of cars, tennis shoes, and Bedouin robes that he had completely forgotten about the creatures. Actually, Khnurn hadn't even noticed that the beasts were following them until Zahra brought it to his attention. Khnurn turned to study the animals lining up behind them. A griffin, a sphinx, phoenix, and several other chimeras ... Those would not fit in at all. He had a feeling that these animals would not be revered as messengers of the gods in this new world, either.

And then it struck him.

"Wait," he said, a sort of eagerness creeping into his voice. "The gods would not have sent us off on our own to save the world with only two bows and four Khopesh between the both of us. We are surrounded by magic wards; perhaps they bestowed some of this power on us? Maybe we can... I don't know... will these beasts into being less conspicuous?"

He faced a horse-jackal chimera and tried, "Um... become a cat."

Khnurn squinted in concentration -- what he was concentrating on, he could not rightly tell -- but nothing happened. The creature gave him a mildly amused look, but remained unchanged. Khnurn sighed and lowered a hand he didn't even notice he had raised, then muttered, "Or maybe we are supposed to save the world with this meager arsenal."

The animals alongside them would not be impervious to destruction, he assumed. If they walked out into the world with these massive hybrid beasts behind them, they were sure to be killed. One of the most grim, yet prominent, memories that came to him then was that humans were very intolerant of things they did not understand. Fear of the unknown often led to split second decisions and brash actions, rarely for the better.

Zahra perks up, agreeing, without a doubt the gods had left some kind of ability with them, possibly more than one. She watches as Khnurn faces a horse-jackal chimera, asking it to become a cat. But nothing happens, in fact the creature even seemed simply amused. Zahra deflates, sighing. The gods expected them to save the world with only simple weapons? Was that even possible? She sighs again, before watching as the creatures press against the wall to allow a large creature to pass. It was a wolf... But it was the size of a horse, and barely fit in the tunnel. It also seemed to have wings, but Zahra could not be sure in the dim light.

The gods did leave you two with gifts

Zahra blinks, staring in surprise at the wolf, whispering to Khnurn,"Did you hear that?" A rumble comes from the wolf, like laughter, the gifts bestowed upon you will take time to harness and control. But you will learn eventually, and we will be with you every step of the way. Zahra wonders,"What are we suppose to do? I mean why does the world need saving? What has happened?" The wolf blinks, pointing his snout towards the exit, continue onward and find out. From what we have heard.... It is not pretty.

Zahra gaps, her mouth dropping open slightly,"I..." The wolf shakes his head, enough questions. The answers are outside of the tomb. Not inside. Zahra takes a deep breath, glancing at Khnurn,"Let's go. The sooner we make it outside, the sooner we know what we are suppose to do. And why we are suppose to be saving the world." Zahra grimaces, uncertainty flashing in her brown eyes,"I hope." She glances back at the wolf, who dips his head, all will be revealed... soon.

Khnurn whipped around as the massive canine spoke. It wasn't exactly speaking, per se, but he could understand the wolf nonetheless. He listened intently, head half cocked, and reluctantly nodded. They just needed to get out and face it. They could work out the rest later. He turned back towards the edit at the beast's final, vague phrase and began walking forward. The runes' glow grew fainter along the walls as he went further along the path until there was nothing but dark, etched markings. A hint of fresh air wafted past, and he grunted softly.

"Almost there," he guessed. Khnurn's footsteps faltered and he looked over his shoulder at Zahra. "I suppose asking questions is useless now, but once we see what it's like out there... Where do we start?"

If the world was ending, Khnurn pictured legions -- were legions a thing anymore? No, they had fleets of warships and the like, now -- lined up on all sides of every kingdom's ... country's... borders. Perhaps there were beasts and monsters underneath the chaos god's control. Would the humans know how to react to such things? Were the threats more hidden? There was so much that could be waiting outside the entrance to their little sliver of sanctuary; Khnurn was not prepared.

He wasn't ready.

"It... can't be that bad," the young man muttered, mostly to reassure himself. He'd reached what he believed was the final door, the exit into the real world. It sounded quiet on the other side, but perhaps they were hidden farther away from civilization? Khnurn placed a hand on the stone and grumbled, "Now or never, I suppose."

After a moment's hesitation, Zahra follows after Khnurn, the creatures following. Her gaze continues to study the walls, the hieroglyphs faded as they continued until there were no more glowing hieroglyphs. As the gust of fresh air wafted past, Zahra takes a deep breath. She felt like she hadn't breathed fresh air in years, which of course she hadn't. Zahra meets Khnurn's gaze, shrugging. "I... I have no idea."

Zahra glances over her shoulder at the creatures and the winged wolf in front, who simply blinks. With a sigh, Zahra looks back at Khnurn,"Maybe we find some humans... Perhaps there are others like us. Maybe they will know what to do." She shivers slightly at the thought. Save the world? Save the world from what? Surely there wasn't anything bad out there. From the memories the gods had left.. the world seemed normal. Less nature, and more human-made buildings, but still pretty fine.

Who knew what was waiting outside of their sanctuary. But the protection of the tomb would not go with them, they would be alone out there, and there was only so much the creatures could do. Zahra blinks at Khnurn as he mumbles to himself, she barely heard him. But she could guess what he was thinking, she was thinking the same thing. It couldn't be that bad outside. She hesitates as Khnurn reaches for what seemed to be the final door... The door that led to the modern world... a world they hadn't been in, in millions of years, it seemed.

Zahra agrees,"Now or never." She was nervous, and scared. Ever since the last bout of memories and knowledge from the gods, she hadn't gotten anything new. Where were the gods? Surely one of the would have come to greet them if they had woken Zahra and Khnurn... She was hoping there was a god on the other side, waiting for them. Who was going to explain everything.

Khnurn placed both hands against the door and pushed hesitantly, noting which way the stone grated in response. He would have to roll it, but that wouldn't be too difficult. There appeared to be slight indentations as handles; whether put there intentionally or worn away by the passage of time, they would work for his intents and purposes. He took hold of the cut away sections and heaved, pulling the stone away as it screeched and groaned in protest.

As soon as there was air flow, sand blasted him in the face and nearly sent him staggering backwards. One hand was removed from the door to shield his eyes as he continued to remove the obstacle until it was, finally, pushed all the way aside. The wind hissed through the new opening and brought with it a blaring red-orange light. It appeared that the sun was setting; actually, Khnurn figured that that would be in their favor. Moving about with such large animals in the dark would decrease their chances of being spied, yes?

Khnurn turned himself in a full circle; the entrance had been well-hidden, buried inside a dune. Even with the entrance open, it was hard to see, though perhaps those were the lingering effects of the spells cast upon it. He cleared his throat and announced, "I don't even see a building, but I may just be blind."

Perhaps Zahra would catch something. Perhaps he wasn't looking hard enough. But being out in the world, woken up after his long slumber, was enough sensory overload to have drowned out anything and everything else. One thing was prominent, however:

"I don't see a god."

Not a single one. Not even Set, and nobody liked Set. Everything was silent, save it were for the wind kicking up sand at his body. The desert expanse was empty. Desolate. A wry smile crossed the young man's features; here he was, experiencing real life and making real memories for the first time, and his first experience was that of loneliness. How... amusing.

Zahra steps forward to help push the door, though it seemed that opening the door wouldn't be too difficult. And indeed the door started moving, though Zahra did have to step back eventually, as there was just not enough room for both of them to be working on opening the door. Though she was ready to move forward again to help if needed. Behind her, she could hear the creatures moving and making noises. If they really had been guarding Zahra and Khnurn the whole time, then the creatures would no doubt be happy and ready for some daylight and fresh air.

Zahra's hands flash up to steady Khnurn as he stumbles backward,"What? What is it?" She peers around him, only to relax. It had only been a gust of fresh air. She thought it was something else that was threatening him. She watches as Khnurn steps forward again to finish moving the door and finally the way to the outside was open. Already she could see the red-orange of the sun, and excitement buzzes through her, she was ready to be outside again, even if she didn't remember what it was like.

Zahra follows Khnurn outside, stopping to examine the area. Behind them, the creatures file out of the tomb, looking a little smaller in the big open area, though a lot of them still looked pretty big. Zahra agrees, turning to look,"I don't see anything either." Then she spotted something, or rather it. She freezes,"What is that?" She gestures at the large shape against the horizon. Whatever it was, it seemed to be pretty far away, but still, it was large... And terrifying.

At the mention of a god, Zahra's gaze flickers back towards Khnurn for a brief second,"Do you... Do you think that--" She gestures at the large shape again,"Is a god?" There was no way, right? Sure the gods could be any size they wanted... But whatever the shape was, it wasn't a god... But, even out here, she couldn't sense the presence of a god. Where were the gods? Should they pray to the gods? Zahra turns in a circle again as the wind whips at her hair and clothes.

Khnurn's dark eyes followed the outstretched arm of his companion, tracking a straight line far off to the horizon. As he moved a little closer to her, a silhouetted shape became visible to him as well, though the heat waves rippling off the dunes distorted the figure. He squinted and put a hand up to shield his eyes but to no avail -- the thing, whatever it was, or whoever it was, remained unidentifiable. Zahra's words rang in his head: "Do you think that is a god?"

His immediate thought was, no. There was something so formidable, so foreboding about the distant shape that set the boy on edge and heightened his alertness. It was similar to the feeling of being in a dark room, seemingly alone, until faint noises nearby announced the presence of another; of course, he had just gone through such an experience in the tombs, but this was... different. This sent his alarm bells ringing and made the hair on his neck stand up.

"It's the only thing we can make out so far. Whatever it is, I have a feeling it was probably the first thing we were supposed to notice," he said. His words came slow; each one sounded forced, clearly displaying his hesitancy to approach the... thing. "It's... off-puting. I don't want to go to it, but at the same time, maybe we are supposed to."

Khnurn figured they could at least get a little closer, determine whether or not it was indeed a threatening entity, and run the opposite way if needed. If it was a god, then they would ask for further directions, because one sentence was certainly not enough to go off of. On the other hand, if it was something that was of a darker, more evil nature, then they could learn as much as they could from a safe distance, retreat, regroup, and formulate a plan of attach.

You want to charge straight at it? The rumbling voice of one of the beasts snapped Khnurn back into the present. He blinked, turned to look at the one who had spoken, and asked, "Did I say that out loud?"

A sphinx looked at him with something bordering exasperation and nodded. Khnurn felt his cheeks burn slightly; he hadn't meant to speak his thoughts. And... well, he hadn't wanted to charge at it, per se. "I just think maybe we should investigate. From a safe distance, of course."

Even as she waited for an answer, she was highly doubtful that the large shape on the horizon was a god. It just... It didn't feel right. The sight of the beast made Zahra shiver, and the hairs on her arm stand up. She felt uneasy and didn't like anything about the beast. So, surely it was not a god. Even the idea of Set was more comforting then whatever was on the horizon. Zahra agrees, a creature that large? That was definitely suppose to catch their eyes, she was about to ask one of the creatures if they knew what it was, but then Khnurn continues. He wanted to go closer, but also didn't. Zahra could understand that.

As Zahra stares at the large beast, a plan began to form. If they were truly suppose to save the world... Maybe that creature was what they were suppose to defeat to save the world. And if they were to defeat it, they would need to get a little closer and see what it was exactly. But, it wasn't safe to get to close. Even if they had abilities, they didn't know how to harness or control them. They would be slaughtered on sight, and she highly doubted their bows or swords would do much against the creature.

The sound of a creature snaps Zahra back to reality as well, her gaze flickering to the sphinx, then back to Khnurn. A small smile creeps across her face,"Yeah. You said that out loud." Khnurn seemed quick to adjust his phrase, stating they should investigate. The winged wolf dips his head, I agree, let's just. "...Stay far away?" Zahra suggests. The winged wolf chuckles slightly, yes. Zahra blinks at Khnurn then turns to face the creature. It seemed to be moving now, but she couldn't tell which way.

Zahra shivers again,"Whatever it is. It is no good creature. The aura I get off of it..." Her brown eyes flicker upward where the light of day was just barely visible and was being taken over by the light of night. "It is not good. That creature is made of pure chaos and darkness. Surely that is what we must face." Zahra's lips thin,"Or even worse... It may only be a servant of what we really must defeat to..." Her gaze returns questioningly to the creatures,"To save the world..?" The only response she got from the creatures was staring looks.

"It would be very considerate of that thing to be what we're supposed to destroy. I'd rather get that over with now and deal with servants later," he sighed, lowering his hand from his eyes. Khnurn began toying with the handles of his Khopesh and furrowed his brows, causing creases to form across his forehead and at the corners of his eyes. It was a grimace of distaste for what he went on to say. "I think you may be right, though... this could very well be nothing more than a semblance of what we will face."

He could sense the evil resonating off of it, and they were still quite a ways off. The young man shook his head and began walking towards it with light, tense steps. He could jump away at a moment's notice -- not that he would be able to leave the sights of whatever resided on the top of the dune. Hoping to lighten the mood, Khnurn cleared his throat and, with a short laugh, mused, "For a modern world with such a dense population, it's pretty dead out here."

Perhaps "dead" wasn't the best choice of words, especially considering their predicament. And, if the world was in the process of breaking into chaos and unorganised matter, the area they stood in could very well be dead. Khnurn bit the inside of his cheek and didn't bother correcting himself; the damage was done, and there was no salvaging that sentence. Instead, he gave a resigned spread of his hands and just kept moving.

"Once we look at this... thing... we'll probably need supplies. How far do you think the nearest city will be?" he asked, now eager to change the subject and perhaps spare himself and his companions the discomfort of his awkward words. His eyes found Zahra's before turning to each of the beasts'. If they were all travelling together, he figured their opinions would count for something as well.
