Jabari Algarotti | Omisha's Guard

Peregrine | Prince of Arathorn

Jabari could have beaten his head against a wall. If the word dumb and fullhardy were to be personified as a portrait in a dictionary, he had a feeling that Peregrine’s face would be slap dab in the center of the page. He wasn’t surprised to feel annoyance radiating off of Omisha. He hadn’t taken this job because he was a coward. Having to face unknown potential dangers everyday, and displeased employers was all part of the job. However, he hadn’t given the second problem much consideration when he decided to try it out. He would never be able to handle the pressure, if he were a coward.

If someone was in Omisha’s kind of mood, they were mad at everyone, not just the offender. One of the most bewildering common conundrums Jabari had encountered as a protector was that most of the time, although the person had hired his services, they would get mad at Jabari for doing his job and protecting them or steering them from danger. It wasn’t simply that they were putting on a show. They were genuinely regretting his involvement even though that’s what he was there for.

Of course he had a feeling for Omisha it was all for the act, so perhaps she actually had a good reason to be annoyed. Some of them wanted him to get involved, so that they had a reason, any reason for not fighting, but those were the more cowardly people. Jabari hated to break out of his cold professionalism, but he had met these kinds of people before. They didn’t understand the word no. They were spoiled and conditioned, so he had to use some force (hopefully just assertive presence and voice inflection) to encourage him to take him seriously.

This weird chemistry that was going on between Omisha and Peregrine was the weirdest thing he had ever dealt with in a while. Most of the time the princess managed to hide or disguise it. However, Peregrine kept on pushing buttons, and he wasn't sure what was going on. Before long he heard the voices of the parents. Peregrine’s mother gave them a haughty look as they entered. Jabari tried to hide in plain sight and dissolve from notice the way he was trained to unless there was a threat.

“Where is Peregrine?” her voice sounded rather suspicious. “What are you doing back here?” She had wanted to talk about the date of the wedding in private with Omisha’s mother, because if her son was any indication, she would hear no end of complaining that she was already discussing this with the other monarch. Thanks to her obnoxious son, she didn't want to deal with anymore youngsters. Realizing how cold her tone was, she summoned a patronizing smile. "Perhaps I could get one of the servants to show you the gardens, or perhaps there is somewhere else you would like to go. Surely, you wouldn't want to sit here, and listen to us. We'd be so boring."

From the way her son was already trying to lead Omisha around, she had determined that they needed to marry sooner rather than later, before the other party could pull out and lose interest. While she doubted they put too much thought into Omisha's feelings and considerations, she didn't want to underestimate the clout that Omisha carried with her parents. She waved a hand, and a servant appeared. It was clear that the queen of Arathorn wasn't taking no for an answer. Omisha would be leaving for some reason or other.

Jabari disguised his sigh of annoyance. Being a guard could never be convenient. Now he had to find a way to entertain the princess. "I could send our jester to entertain you," the queen answered brightly, realizing that she had forgotten about him. She waited for an answer. Either Omisha would be having this servant guide or somewhere or she could go back to her sitting room where she could have the jester entertain her in private.

Peregrine messed around with his swords for a little while. Although he was very undisciplined, the swordsmaster had been very adamant that he would keep his blade clean, and he would know how to do it. Now that he was out of his parent's sight, he began to sneak around the palace. He didn't want to be noticed by anyone and forced to do anything for a while. It was much harder to do with the Menahems here, because he had to wear bright gaudy clothing that screamed he was royalty. At least if he were wearing dull clothes, they would probably ignore him and not give him a second look.

All of a sudden he heard jangling, and only had a moment to tense before Bifur the jester with his dangly hat with bells jumped up behind him. "Good day young prince. Where are you headed to?" Peregrine took a moment to stare at the bright red and yellow checkered clothing the jester was wearing today. There was no hiding now that he was noticed by and accompanied by him. "I'm not sure. Just mosying around I suppose," he mumbled under his breath not making eye contact. "Young prince. You really should learn to look people in the eye when you speak to them. It's the first step to being respected and it's rude not to."

This caused Peregrine to look at him in surprise. It annoyed him how the jester was allowed to criticize and comment, but he figured he was supposed to learn something from this.

"Better," he dipped his head smiling in approval.

"How do you wear such a tight costume?" Peregrine stared at Bifur's jiggling paunch.

"Oh ho young prince! Quite the bold lad are we now? I say something to you, so you felt you must return the compliment I see. If you must know, it's not the most comfortable, however, apparently it look ridiculous and is easier to make people laugh."

Peregrine's nose began to wrinkle. "It's not very appealing. I think they could come up with something else. It attracts the eye there, and it isn't really necessary."

Slowly, Bifur shook his head chuckling. "You amuse me Highness. Pardon me, I shall leave you to go observe someone else."

Peregrine was relieved to be on his own again. He decided to head for the outdoors.

(I forgot everyone's names, and I'm too lazy to look back. I also forgot if there is a king of arathorn, what he is like and such)

Omisha | Princess of Menahem

It was difficult to switch from emotion to emotion so quickly. Though she was a professional in terms of hiding her thoughts and feelings there had to be some time to allow her to change what she was appearing to be if she wanted it to be natural. Perhaps she should have stayed annoyed, it seemed much more real for her to be angry at this point in time. It was strange to think about how she had first wanted Peregrine to think of her and how one bear had ruined the whole thing. Even more strangely, she didn’t really regret the switch. The prince had been showing more and more of what he was predisposed to doing and that was incredibly useful. It was also quite funny to see when he was trying to find some way to ‘expose’ her that morning. She assumed that that was what he had been doing at least, if not he had chosen a weird way to hide his true intentions.

It was becoming more and more obvious how little she knew about herself the more time she spent in this castle. Her every thought revolved around some aspect of this ‘mission’, had she ever thought about something else? She did wish she could take a break sometimes, but then again this was her job. It made her indispensable, it made her needed, it made her wanted. Besides, she couldn’t just take a day off of her work, any less than Jabari could. Lucky brat prince, he had no job. His only purpose in life was to run around the castle and be a nuisance, flaunting his privilege around. At least she didn’t behave like that.

Or would she? If she’d had her whole life handed to her on a golden platter, would she be that irritating? That was a scary thought for sure. Omisha was aware that she wasn’t the nicest person on the planet, far from it, but she did care about the people around her. Even if she didn’t show it. She glanced towards her guard, for once not resisting as he guided her back towards the parents.

She was sure that they would not be met with open arms, but she could come up with some easy excuse to avoid the blame falling on her. Of course, it would probably involve Peregrine but he could take the fall for her, it wouldn’t be the biggest impact on the rest of his life. She used to shy away from thinking about how soon people wouldn’t exist when she was around, but after some time you become numb to the fact. Now it only really started to hit her after the deed had been done. Even then she rarely had a big emotional reaction, typically just thinking about it as if it had been done by someone else twelve miles away. Lives had been shown to be worthless in the time she had been alive and of course that would affect how she perceived the world.

Just as she had suspected, the Queen of Arathorn was not overjoyed to see Omisha appear without any sign of her son. Dipping into a low curtsey, she focused her attention on the floor and spoke in a soft and apologetic tone. “I apologise to your majesty. Peregrine sent me back here but I will leave if that is wished for.” It sounded good enough. The queen continued to talk, reigning back her cold tone and replacing it with a very patronising one. Clearly her son was as obnoxious to his parents as he was towards Omi.

She did not want to sit and listen to a jester try to entertain her with pathetic jokes, how lucky she was that the queen had offered to tour the gardens as well. “I would love to see the gardens, thank you, your highness.” It was obvious that Omisha was not wanted here, so she kept her responses short and to the point. That was bound to satisfy the parents. As a servant appeared she offered them a small, polite smile. Acting so sickly sweet was beginning to get on her own nerves, hopefully she would be excused soon.

(Bleh this is gross. I forgot about him too, maybe just a typical father figure? The Queen has been shown more so she probably would be more controlling in their relationship even if he technically holds more power)

Jabari Algarotti | Omisha's Guard

Peregrine | Prince of Arathorn

The servant wasn't sure what to do. He was supposed to remain behind any royalty, but he also wasn't supposed to speak to them unless spoken to. Showing her the way to the gardens would be quite the challenge until he realized that he could tell the guard where to go. That would mean he would have to deal with the awkward hierarchy. While it might be dangerous annoying this guard, since they might be living in the same castle eventually, he was willing to risk it over his queen's very possible anger at improper treatment.

When the servant approached the princess, he kept his eyes downcast, as it was considered rude and challenging to make eye contact. He began to situate himself so he was behind the princess and looked at the guard for help. The guard was supposed to walk behind the princess as well and guard her from the surprise attacks from the rear that could happen at any moment. Jabari was tempted to not make eye contact, but he quickly realized that the servant wasn't sure what to do. Would Omisha take the hint to give permission for someone to speak.

"Stand in between me and the princess so I can see you," he indicated a spot off to one side. The servant took a few awkward steps forward and began to set off for outside moving in a sideways crab to avoid making a mistake in front of the queen. Once they were outside, Jabari took a deep breath trying to notice anything unusual in the air. His hair was lightly ruffled by the breeze. He turned his head slightly and noticed Prince Peregrine sprawled out on a blanket. It was about time to look for somewhere a little less infested.

The servant turned to Omisha now that they were outside. "Is there anything particular you would like to see? Perhaps you would like to visit the stables?" Since Omisha was younger, he felt like he didn't have to be quite as formal, but he knew he would still have to wait for her to dismiss him. "I could get you refreshments. I could fetch a gardener to talk about the plants in the garden." He was really hoping he could get dismissed as soon as possible.

Jabari edged toward Peregrine trying to see what he was doing. From what he could observe he was laying there staring at the clouds. He had a servant nearby to shade him from the sun if he started to squint too much. He began to wriggle around, when he heard voices nearby. Once he saw who was around he flopped back down although he should have gotten up and greeted the princess. As Jabari didn't have high expectations for him, he wasn't as offended as he might have been.

The servant seemed to be familiar with Peregrine and nudged him with a toe trying to get him up and about. He shot up and glared at the servant, but realized that if he got up and talked to Omisha there might be less chance of him getting a chewing out later. He brushed himself off and headed toward Omisha. "So you decided to escape to the gardens as well. Come here for a particular reason?" He was wondering what it was out here that had enticed her. Was it an activity or the hope of the lack of people?

"I enjoy watching the clouds pass by from time to time." He shrugged knowing that entertainment sounded rather tame and boring. "You have brought a small little following." He noticed the servant and her guard. Jabari edged closer not expecting Peregrine to obey the servant. It seemed that he was easily bullied into doing things. Perhaps this young man was acting out so much, because although he should be at the top of the hierarchy he had no backbone to rightfully take the spot. "Would you like me to leave the garden to you?" After so many unpleasant encounters, he would be relieved to escape her presence. Would could they possibly do together that would remain civil?

"Who do you normally spend time with? It seems like you spend a lot of time with your guard, but do you actually socialize? I haven't noticed any ladies in waiting." Maybe she wouldn't be such an awful companion, if she had been socialized more. The servant crept over to the other servant where they watched from as safe as a distance as they could without appearing to be trying to escape. From here it seemed like they were merely trying to give some privacy. "Have you met Bifur yet? He's an interesting character, but he doesn't have the best outfits. I'm not sure why we thought his uniform was a good idea."
