================================================

Introduction:

You’ve always been a little bit off. Something just doesn’t… click, between you and most other people. There’s a slight disconnect between how you think and everyone else. Your home life doesn’t much help matters. Maybe your parents are just a little bit neglectful, maybe they’re outright abusive, but it isn’t exactly sunshine and daisies. Some of you have been able to feign normality so well sometimes you forget that you’ve ever been different. Others don’t even try, isolating themselves in their oddness. Maybe you know some of the others like you, maybe you don’t. But that doesn’t really matter right now. Because today, something is going to change. At some point, you’re going to figure out why you just don’t get humans. You’re going to learn that you aren’t quite one, and never have been.

Background:

Everyone’s character(s) is a little more than human. Each is the result of human experimentation, a mix of human and animal DNA to create superior soldiers. Grown in vats, they were distributed to operatives in order to be observed as they grew up, to be reclaimed once they began exhibiting the intended shapeshifting traits. But these operatives haven’t treated their subjects the best, and that lack of care has made each of the characters at least slightly untrusting of their ‘parents’. Suddenly gaining shapeshifting abilities isn’t going to encourage them to start telling their ‘parents’ about their lives.

Location:

Everyone lives in a small, rural town out in the middle of Oregon state. The town of Riverfell is several hundred miles away from the nearest town, situated just north of a large rocky gorge with a fast-flowing cold river at the bottom. Vast forests surround most of the town, lush and filled with wildlife. While Riverfell only has a population of about 1,300 people, it’s well-funded enough to be properly maintained. The school is split between two buildings, an elementary school and middle-highschool, both with prolific sporting teams. Football (American version) and lacrosse are the two major teams in the highschool, both teams sharing the same name of the Riverfell Cougars. Two movie theaters exist in the town, though both tend to play older, B-list films. A shopping mall is still up and running around the center of Riverfell, containing a few chain stores, an arcade, and an old laser tag place. Most of the rest of the town is residential, with a few gas stations and grocery stores scattered about. A majority of the people in the town are perfectly nice and normal, though there is a good number of undercover agents hiding around in plain sight.

Rules:

1- Eve’s rules take priority!

2- Swearing/harsh language is allowed, WITHIN REASON. Don’t make half your posts an uninterrupted stream of cussing

3- No Mary/Gary Sue characters! Make sure your character has actual flaws that affect them, not just the ‘cool ones’

4- No godmodding. You can flesh out what other people have written, but don’t force their characters into specific actions more severe than “A grabbed B’s wrist and dragged them forwards”

5- Feel free to insert your own drama and subplots! Add your own lore or detail to something I’ve already typed up! Just be sure to notify me so I can paste it somewhere relevant.

6- I reserve the right to reject certain sections of a person’s RP sheet! I will tell you why, and the reason is usually going to be because something edged a little bit too far into the ‘overpowered’ or ‘Mary/Gary Sue’ category

7- Multiple characters are perfectly fine, so long as you use them all. PM me if you’d like to drop one or all of them, so we can disappear them from the RP

8-Try to make your posts 200+ words. I understand writer’s block, but that extra length gives everyone else something to work with

9- A kind of subset for the ‘no OP characters’ rule, try to keep things balanced! Glance over other character sheets to make sure yours is/are on a similar level.

================================================
The alarm was cut off before it could even finish it's first klaxon bleep. Most teenagers hated waking up early, but Cain had never had a problem with it. Five in the AM and he was wide awake, ready to go. Clothes were tossed on with little care for their choice beyond 'clean', today's outfit ending up being a solid dark-green t-shirt and ankle length grey cargo pants. He'd worn the shirt out into the woods about two nights ago, and the pants weremaybe a week old? Whatever, Cain liked the smell of dirt and tree sap clinging to the fabric. Better than that sharp disinfectant scent of the detergent stuff. As dressed as he cared to be, Cain shucked on his boots, laced them up, and grabbed his backpack. It was filled with all his school stuff, from the history textbook all the way to his English class's required reading.
~
With everything he needed from the room dealt with, Cain slunk his way down the stairs to aquire breakfast. 'Dad' probably wouldn't be up at this hour, just like every day, but still. There was this itching under his skin that was driving him mad with unreleased energy, and Cain didn't want to deal with something else on top of the ants-on-skin sensation right now. A handful of cheap cold-cuts was his breakfast, just enough to mostly tide him over until school lunch. Well, not really, but it was as much as he could get away with. Grabbing enough to actually be filling would just earn him another beating. It was fine though, he'd been saving up. Soon.
~
Cain closed the side door behind him softly, glad that the birdsong would mostly cover the click of the latch. With that out of the way, Cain stretched his arms out above his head with a few satisfying cracks. He set off across the slightly overgrown yard to run over the sidewalk pavement. Pretty soon, Cain's head was consumed with the simple rythm of his morning jog, moving at a decent clip. Left, right, left, right, left, right. It was enough to pass the time until just before eight, at which point he turned towards the school.
~
Cain might have gone a bit further than he'd thought, but he still managed to get into the doors before being counted as late. He pushed his way through the crowd of milling teenagers towards his first period class, Pre-Calculus. It was really just 'Review Every Prior Math Class', but it meant there wasn't much new work for him to figure out. He could just use his old notes from the previous years if he ever got stuck, especially because the teacher had barely switched up her curriculum in the twenty-odd years she'd taught at the school. Seriously, he'd had Ms. Grant for three other math classes before this one, and the assignments were practically identical. She just made the numbers bigger, for the most part, or wrote 'No Calculators Allowed'. Cain slid his way into one of the back seats before they filled up, and was quickly surrounded by a group of other kids, some from the sports teams and others just hangers-on looking to grab an hint ofpopularity they could. While Cain smiled and jabbered on with them, he kept an eye on the door and windows. His skin was still itching like he needed the move, even after he spent two and three-quarters or so hours jogging around the town. His shirt was sticking to his back from the run, and as Cain pulled the fabric off of himself he swore he heard some girl squeal. The high-pitched noise hurt his ears and made him subtly wince, which he hid behind wiping a hand through his short hair.
~
The teacher walked in and began to drone on abouth te importance of the unit circle as she drew on a SmartBoard at the front. Cain only kept the barest amount of attention on her as he could manage while still copying down passable notes. Rather, he was constantly glancing at the clock and nearest window. Not even half an hour into hte building and he already wanted to get out? Today wasgoing to be one of his bad days, wasn't it?

Astrid | 16 | Female | Chinese Dragon / Western Dragon | M: Open

Astrid woke up with a start, her vision groggy with sleep and covered with heavy white blankets. The window that lingered in front of Astrid's motel room had soft morning light filtering through it, which fell apon Astrid's bed. The girl shifted around in her bed, not wanting to get up even though she knew that she had to. Slowly, silently, she slid her legs off of the bed until they touched the ground and she could sit up. Astrid rubbed her eyes, her vision getting clearer, and everything beginning to come into view. She had plenty of time to get ready for school, there wasn't anything to worry about if she wanted to dilly dally. Astrid brushed fuzz off from her pajamas before stretching and surpressing a tired yawn. She wanted to go back to sleep, but she couldn't. Not if she wanted to get to school on time.

Astrid heaved herself to her feet and went over to check her alarm clock. She'd waken up before it had went off, but of course, that was because yesterday was the worst day of her life. One that she'd never forget. Astrid could remember clear as day the sight of her parents' angry faces as they screamed at her and hit her. They cursed at her and the only thing that they had to offer Astrid was more pain as she screamed at them to stop. She fought back, but to no avail. The last thing that she could remember was them throwing her out of their car and driving off, throwing Astrid a flurry of insults as her world went black. She had woken up and sought shelter in a motel nearby, as she had a large stash of money that her wealthy parents had never found out about. And here she was.

Lately, Astrid had felt highly terretorial and aggressive towards people that invaded her space. She didn't know why, but, Astrid thought about it as she got dressed, brushed her hair and teeth, and checked that she had everything that she needed for school in her backpack. "Looks good, I should probably get going now," Astrid muttered to herself through a mouthful of toast. She opened the door and walked out of her room, ready to start a new day.

Nicole Blois/16/Female/Raven/Mentions: Cain (ind.)
Nic woke as soon as her alarm went off. By the third beep, Nic was stumbling to turn it off. The last thing Nic wanted was to wake her family. Once the alarm was off and Nic was certain her family was still asleep, Nic started to get ready for the day. She threw on a teal shirt decorated with a butterfly, and black leggings to match. Next was Nic's black armband, hiding the cruel work of her brother. Finally, Nic put on her gloves, which she never went anywhere without.
With Nic dressed for the day, she ventured out of her room to start breakfast. Today, Nic settled for the simple, yet heart omelette, hoping that it would please her family. Nic herself took a leftover blueberry muffin that was starting to go stale. Nic ate and read a chapter of one of her schoolbooks while waiting for the eggs to cook. The current book was a growing up story, one which Nic found she really related to. Not that she'd ever admit that out loud.
Once the omelettes were made, Nic rushed out of the house, hoping to beat her family. Unfortunately, Asher was already awake.
"You better have my breakfast ready." Asher strode past Nic without waiting for a response. From the quiet that came from the kitchen, Nic knew Asher was fine with his breakfast. Nic took that as her que to leave.
Nic walked to school, since she had the time, and had no interest in riding the crowded bus. A boy passed Nic on the street, Nic knew him as one of the popular boys, but didn't know his name. Nic didn't know the names of any of the popular kids in school. Nic could tell that the boy ran from something, everything hinted towards it. From the way he absent-mindedly ran, to his posture. It was a feeling Nic knew all to well.
Nic made it to school without passing anyone else, which was just fine with her. Nic suffered through the crowded halls of the school, moving as fast and carefully as possible. Nic slipped into her first class, advanced literature, and took a seat up front. Nic found that most students preferred to sit in the back of the classroom, which left the front wide open.
Once seated, Nic pulled out a small sketchbook and pencil from her bag. The drawings weren't very good, but it gave Nic something to do. Nic's most recent sketch was of the gorge, a common subject. Nic dove into her drawing, waiting for the bell to ring.

"Wake up! Heather!" Heather was startled into wakefulness by her mother, Jasmine, banging on her bedroom door and yelling her name. With a grunt, she heaved herself out of bed, gave some sort of wordless signal that she was awake, and began getting dressed, feeling her sleepiness slip from her much faster than just a few weeks before. Heather blinked as the light flicked on and she glanced over her options. Grey leggings, a red t-shirt, and a red ribbon to tie her hair with. She could smell breakfast cooking, and a quick glance at the clock told her it was 7:30 a.m, still plenty of time to start the day. She dabbed on a bit of makeup in less than ten minutes, deciding that today she wouldn't mess around, and snatched her reflective sunglasses from her desk. She sat down at the breakfast table and ate a quick breakfast, fingering her glasses. It was a near silent affair, and she was out the door without another word, hurrying so as to not be late. Fortunately, her home was a five minute walk from the school so it made for an easy last-minute escape when she was running late.
~
Heather sighed as she sat down at her desk in her first period, World History, and dug through her black and yellow backpack for her notebook. She grimaced as her hand closed on empty air. I must've left the blasted thing at the house. The bell rang. And it's too late now. I might as well just kidnap some paper from the printer again. The history teacher, Mr. Robinson, was always running late, but it usually didn't matter; he held them ten minutes after the bell rang quite commonly to make up for it. Standing up and sidling over to the printer, Heather quickly opened it and withdrew ten sheets of the blank white paper, and was hurriedly sitting down when the teacher hurried in, adjusting a loose tie and looking very iritated about something. Without further ado he began the lecture, droning on about another pointless war fought for pointless power. Heather rarely paid attention in his class, as she was fairly certain he didn't read any of the essays he assigned them; she'd once accidently turned in her math assignment instead, and still got an A. So with a quick glance to her left, and then to her right, Heather rested her chin on her hand and closed her eyes, her face mostly hidden by the reflective glasses. It's never a bad time for a nap.

David Sat up just as the rooster crowed, he hadn’t slept since it was his 16th birthday. he jumped out of bed and approached the door to outside, hoping to avoid a lecture on how he will gain more responsibility now that he is 16, “responsibility” meant chores and training. He already had enough training! He could beat his father in a fist fight, run faster and farther that him, he even knew how to shoot a coyote running away from across the farm with a bow and arrow! Ok, fine, David did choose to learn the bow and arrow but still.
As he was reaching out to the door handle he heard his father’s voice and he stopped, “Get right back here after school because now that your sixteen, the real training begins.” Uh oh, that didn’t sound good, “Yes sir.” David replied, and he gave him a curt nod which meant he was being dismissed.
David jogged towards school as he munched on his fish and his apple, I wonder what did he mean by ‘real training’ he thought as he jumped over a log. He finally spied the familiar walls of the high school. Whenhe entered the building he bowed his head and walked fast to his first class, Health.
David entered and took his seat on the far front right corner. Once everyone was seated his teacher started his lecture about how the human physical body is pretty much pathetic. While he planned for the football game, and his teacher droned on about what to do if someone is having a heart attack, one thought in David’s mind peeped something that worried him quite a lot. What kind of new training am I going to have?

Finley Neil Blake | 17 | Male | Aye-Aye & Spitting Thicktail Black Scorpion | Mentions: Open.

The first sounds of an alarm clock drew Finley out from a light, dreamless sleep. He blinked his eyes open as he rolled onto his side and sat up, turning the sound off with his right hand. He took a glance around his room as he pushed himself from the bed and stood up. Another day of school started today, and judging by the time… He had about an hour and a half to get there.

--

With that thought being the first one of the day, he went about getting dressed. The outfit he decided upon ended up being a white t-shirt, light gray jeans, white belt, and a lightweight navy blue zip-up hooded jacket. Of course, his two bracelets were still worn as well, he never did seem to be able to convince himself to take them off. He should work on that, but alas it probably won’t happen anytime soon.

--

Once he was done changing, he grabbed his phone and he left his room, going to the kitchen to grab a quick breakfast that he could eat while walking to school. The school was a good thirty minutes away from his house, but he still had an hour to get there so he wouldn’t be late. Grabbing a premade instant breakfast drink, he went and put on his already prepared bag.

--

Without ever glancing at the people drinking coffee at the dinner table, he slipped on his navy blue tennis shoes and left the house, beginning his walk to school. As always, the walk was uneventful, just the normal sounds of a small town neighborhood. He didn’t mind it, though he didn’t exactly enjoy it either. He should probably start working on his expressions again, they were bound to be more obvious with his apathy than they were when school first started. He’d do that once he returned to his place of residence today after school.

--

Eventually, he reached his destination and deposited his trash into the nearest can. Then, he made his way down the hallways and to his first period of the day. Art History. Taking the first seat he saw available, he was in the middle row and off to the side closest to the door. It would do.

Rowan Conleth Graves | 15 | Male | Mongoose & Moray Eel | Mentions: Ami, Cain(Ind.).

Rowan groaned as his alarm went off, mumbling something to himself that sounded an awfully lot like, “Oh please, dear confines of sleep, let me have one measly more second at least in your embrace.” His prayers, however, went unheard as the alarm kept beeping. Deciding it was pointless to try again, he sat up with a pout on his face. As he stood, he turned the clock off and sighed.

--

It took a few minutes but he eventually found something to wear. A white t-shirt, a white belt, and black jeans. He never did understand the trend of jackets, the fabric always felt too uncomfortable on his skin. Either way though, he grabbed his phone and black boots, putting the latter onto his feet.

--

Afterwards, he made his way downstairs and made himself a breakfast of cereal. He knew that his parents wouldn’t be up for another ten minutes, and that would definitely leave him enough time to finish eating, grab his bag, and get started on walking to school with Ami.

--

And indeed it was, after he finished eating he made his backpack and swung it over his shoulders, going outside to see Ami already waiting there in his usual outfit. He smiled softly and walked over, Ami giving him a hug as the two began walking to school together.

--

Ami rambled as they walked, and Rowan listened as much as he was able to. He loved this man’s optimism about absolutely everything. It was so infectious. And in no time at all it seemed, they at the school and walking to their first period together. Pre-Calculus. When the walked into the classroom, they saw a lot of people hanging out around Cain, which was fine, it meant the two had a better chance at getting seats next to each other. And that they did. Right in the back, luckily.

Amittai ‘Ami’ Zviad Mushi | 16 | Male | Dingo & Spitting Cobra | Mentions: Rowan, Cain(Ind./Dir.).

Ami had been awake an hour before his alarm was supposed to go off, and so he had simply gotten dressed into his usual outfit. White t-shirt, blue skinny jeans, tamarillo bomber jacket, white belt, and his favorite tamarillo scarf. His cheap phone in his jacket pocket. And that still left a good forty minutes before his alarm would’ve gone off, even considering the fact that he showered too.

--

And so, that was how he found himself making pancakes in the kitchen for him and his father. It was a calmer day, apparently, since his father wasn’t yelling at or hitting him. Or anything else to him. Which was definitely good! He’d been wondering for a while now when his father’s work would let up enough to where they could be a somewhat normal family. Could this be the start of a new era? He hoped so.

--

And then his alarm went off in his room, right in time for the plate of pancakes to be made and the stove turned off. So he put the bowl holding the batter and the pan that cooked the pancakes into the sink, going down the hallway and to his room. After the alarm was turned off, he went back to the kitchen and ate breakfast sitting across from his father. He held back the urge to ramble, knowing quite well what would happen. Normally, he wouldn’t mind, but he’d promised Rowan to walk him to school today and he didn’t want to break it just because he’d spoken and wasn’t able to go to school.

--

After they both had finished breakfast, Ami collected their plates and put them in the sink, hand washing them and putting them away before going to grab his backpack. After his backpack was secured, he slung it onto his shoulder, waved goodbye to his dad, and started going in the direction of Rowan’s house.

--

Just as he got there, Row was stepping out the front door, waving to him. He grinned and hugged his friend once he was close enough. And then they began their walk.

--

I talked to the other theatre kids, and we’re doing a musical soon at the local place! A musical, Row! Can you believe it? It’s gonna be awesome! And the cooking club is hosting a bake sale next week! It’ll be amazing, I’m sure. After all, I’ll be there and my baking skills are top-notch, as you know. Oh. Oh! The track’s first meet is soon too! I can’t wait! It’s going to be soooo fun! I can’t wait to leave everyone in the dust, you know? Oooh, do you think Cain would want to run a few laps with me sometime? That would definitely help for the meet.

--

And his rambling continued, only ending once they got to school and even then. He continued to speak in a more hushed voice about all of the fun things coming, because surely there was plenty. And then they were in their first period class. Pre-Calculus. He saw Cain, and the other jocks, giving a small wave to the other sport nerds. A few of them waved back, but for the most part they were a bit preoccupied… Oh well..! He still had Row, and they wanted to sit together anyways… They ended up sitting in the back, and that was fine.

Cain Richards/17/Male/Eagle & Smilodon/Mentions: Amittai, Open
================================================
Cain absentmindedly waved at Ami when the other guy had come into class, before returning to mostly ignoring the rest of the class. His knee bounced up and down as the seconds ticked by, just barely restrained from full-out tapping against the linoleum floor. The teacher wouldn't just shut up, and class was dragging on, and that kid three desks to his right would not stop wrinkling that plastic godsdamned wrapper. Cain ground his teeth together slowly, trying to keep himself from jackknifing up out of the desk chair and racing outside.
~
The bell rang, the shrill sound cutting into the meat of his brain considerably harsher than usual. Cain barely took enough time to stuff his pen and notebook into his backpack before he's out of his seat and moving. History was next, and it would probably be just as bad or worse. He paced around the halls, taking the long way to his next class. He'd hoped it would burn off at least some of his energy, but by the time he took a free seat close to the door Cain knew it had been mostly pointless. Despite wandering around to the point that he'd nearly been late, lightning still buzzed through his veins. Cain dropped his head over his arm and bit into his elbow, muffling the low whine of discomfort he'd been about to let out.
~
Mr. McKinnley was a better teacher than most in the school. He made lessons marginally interesting and didn't assign too much homework. The teacher stepped into the room and began a lecture on America's involvement in the first World War. Mostly the social and economic aspects instead of battles the US was involved in, but the public edcation system liked to keep their topics nice and non-confrontational. It made this period pass a little faster, but it was still painful to sit still as the hour went on.
~
English ended up being worse than Pre-Calc. Maybe because Cain hated the class, because oh boy was he twitchy. Just had to get through this one, then he'd have Study Hall. And in Study Hall, he could ask to go to the weight room to 'practice'. While he couldn't go outside like he actually wanted to, at least throwing around heavy steel-and-rubber blocks would help with the adrenaline racing through his blood. Mrs. Gallet wanted them to go over online journalist posts from a bunch of different sources. Every 'post' she had up on the projector for review was less than 300 words and had most of its space filled up with generic makeup adverts. Well, there was one that really shook things up with ads about, *gasp*, shampoo!
~
Finally, his free hour. Because he was on two sports teams, the teacher's assistant in charge of his Study Hall let him out with barely a second thought. Cain had to keep himself from running all the way down to the weight room. There was already a class present, but the gym teacher just waved him in. He headed straight to the treadmills, only one of which being used. Cain jumped right onto the belt and turned it on. He upped the speed as he went until Cain's feet pounded over the deck at a fast sprint. The girl on the other treadmill, going at a slow jog, kept glancing over at him occasionally with what might have been shock. He spent the hour running, and nearly missed the lunch bell. When the coach waved a hand in front of the mill to signal an end to the period, and Cain shut off the treadmill to head off to the cafeteria.

Now for food. Halfway through the day. Cain merges with the line, waiting to grab a tray of today's high school meal of mystery-meat burger, wheat bun, and plastic masquerading as cheese. It wasn't very filling, but it was a hot meal and more than he would be able to get at home. Cain dropped himself and his tray at a table in the back, waving off the other kids that approached him. He grinned at them and pointed out how he'd just gotten back from the weight room, and how he'd smell bad. They looked a little disappointed, but accepted his reasoning and wandered off to other tables. Once he was alone, Cain let the smile drop from his face and started scarfing down the almost-food. He finished the burger and started flexing his hands absentmindedly in his lap, staring blankly out the window. Should he skip the rest of the day? But his record couldn't take it, and if his grades dropped any further it was entirely likely 'Dad' would get angry and start beating on him. Again.

The first half of the day flew by. Nic wandered from class to class, taking the less used halls to get where she needed to go. From literature to music to math to health. Then, Nic met up with Indra and walked to lunch. By the time the pair collected their trays of school processed food, most of the tables were full. Even the regect table, Nic and India's usual spot, was full.
"C'mon, I see a space." Nic didn't argue with Indra, and just quietly followed her friend through the crowd.
Indra stood in front of a table currently occupied by a singe student, the same boy that had passed Nic on the way to school. Now would be a great time to remember the boy's name, but nothing came to mind.
"Hi. Mind if we sit here? Thanks." Indra ungracefully plopped into a seat across from the boy without waiting for an answer. Nic stood awkwardly for a few seconds before slinking into the seat left of her friend. The boy still seemed restless and irritable, which put Nic on edge. Nic half sat, half perched on the edge of her seat, ready to spring up and leave at a moment's notice.
Then, Indra, oblivious as she is, left Nic to use the bathroom. Now, Nic was alone with the popular boy, who's name was still a mystery. Cal? Conner? Something like that.
"Um... I-I'm sorry about my friend. She should have asked before sitting here." Nic couldn't have been any more awkward then she was then. "I'm Nic, by the way. What... What's your name?" Under the table, Nic wrung her hands, trying desperately to not let on how nervous she was, and failing. She really wasn't good at social interactions.

Godsdamned people. Why'd they have to come over here, of all tables? Well, okay, most of the other benches were full, but there was still space elsewhere! The problem with having only one llunch period for the majority of the school. Though, usually a bunch of people chose to take tehir trays to the halls when the tables filled up. Ugh, he should have done that, but the halls had absolutely no sound muffling. Cain could hear just about anything as it echoed down those corridors.

"Mmph," he grunted into his arms, face still blocked against the table. "Cain." Thanks, 'Dad', for the name. Sure, it was a cool name, but he'd also gotten a lot of weird looks for it, especially from the Christian kids. First murderer? Great name for your kid! Well, he didn't particularly care, but it got obnoxious when people went and asked 'Like the murderer?'. It was better than sharing a name with one of the more recent and inarguably real murderers. It would suck to be named after Hitler.

'Nic', from what he could see from between the gaps in his arms, was kind of a nervous person. She(?) didn't seem to be too confident, which might be why he hadn't ever heard of her before. He wasn't tapped into the socio-political hierarchy of the school like some of the other popular kids, but Cain tended to get a good bit of news from the other sports guys who were. There was nothing about a 'Nic', or any variation thereof. While it could just mean that she was a boring, normal, totally uninteresting person, it could also mean that she was clever enough to not get noticed by any of the usual gosip hounds. Unlikely, because most high schoolers weren't secret criminal masterminds hiding in plain sight, but it could happen.
