It is impossible to say how at first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night. I loved that old wolf. He had never hurt me. He had never given me insults. I was his apprentice I think it was his eye! yes, thats it ! He had the eye of a vulture which I had to stear at for every day it made my blood run cold so I had no choice but to rid my self of that eye forever.
you would have laughed to see how cunningly I was on my chosen night I moved slowly very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old wolf's sleep.I thought my heart was going to burst when it was time to do the deed. The old wolves hour had come!
He shrieked once, once only. In an instant I dragged him and pushed the heavy rock from outside over him over him. I then smiled triumphantly, But, for many minutes, the heart beat on with a muffled sound.I examined the corpse. Yes, he was stone, stone dead. I placed my paw upon the heart. There was no pulsation. He was stone dead. So I made a neat whole and buried that old wolf so very gently where he layer covered it up so not even the mostbegke eyed wolf would be able to spot what had token place here thus night

A shriek had been heard by a neighbour during the night and they were suspicion so some wolves came to check on the old wol's den. I smiled, for what had I to fear? I welcomed then explaining the old wolf had left to go and visit a friend I told them the shriek was from me and that I had a dream. the wolves were satisfied nothing was wrong . My manner had convinced them. They sat and chattered asking the odd question. My head ached, and I heard a fainy ringing but still they chatted. The ringing became more distinct.

No doubt I now grew very pale, but I talked more fluently, and with a higher pitched voice. Yet the sound increased and I didnt know what I could do? It was a low, dull, quick sound. I gasped for breath.the noise steadily increased. Why would they not go? I paced the floor to and fro It grew louder, louder, louder and still the wolves chatted pleasantly, and smiled. Was it possible they couldnÂÂÂ’t hear the defining noise? no! They heard! They knew! They were making a mockery of my horror! I couldnt bear there smiles any longer! I felt that I must scream or die! The noise became Louder! Louder! Louder! Louder!
"Villains!" I shrieked, " I admit it I admit I killed the old wolf I did the deed!” I dug and dug! Here, here! "there is the beating of his hideous heart
