Sach walked quickly, but continued to look behind as he did so. After a moment he realized his companion was falling behind. "Come on." He said gently, letting the female put her weight on his shoulder, she was very weak. "Sach?" The female wolf asked. "Yeah, Momma?" He asked, his throat tight. "I love you..." Her words echoed slightly, before she collapsed, too weak to continue. He knew this day would come, the day when she would grow too old to walk the same path as him, but yet he would never be ready to say goodbye. "Mom... Momma! Please don't leave me..." He fell into a series of deep sobs, and didn't stop for hours...
2 Years Later...
Sach stalked the large deer stag, moving rhythmically as he watched with hawk like eyes. He leaped and took it down with a swift motion, killing it quickly. He thought of how proud his mother would be of him and a small tear ran down his cheek before he dragged the deer back to his den. He tried not to think of his mother who had died when he was only one. Instead, he pushed his feelings deep down inside of him, where no one could tell they existed. He tried to be strong for his mate and his pups, who didn't even know what happened to his family. They only know he was a lone wolf before meeting Samantha. He set down the deer and watched as his pups, who were almost one, try parts of the deer. He didn't bother even to lick Samantha's cheek as he sat in a corner of the den, deep in thought. Samantha wasn't going to let him have his peace, though, and padded over to sit beside him. "What's wrong?" She asked. "You know I can tell when something's bothering you..." She said. "I'm fine," He growled. She stared at him for a moment before standing back up. "Alright, but you better help me teach them to hunt tomorrow. Suzie is restless. And Benji is well, kind of like you, quiet and hard to read. You know they want you there, they want your approval. Benji needs his father there with him. You know that, don't you?" She asked, anxiously. "Of course I do. It's just...." He looked her in the eyes, but was not yet ready to tell her. "I'll be there." He said, making a point in saying that the conversation was over.
The Next Day...
Sach reluctantly followed his family as they padded into the woods. "I'll take Suzie over here," Samantha said, "why don't you take Benji over there." His mate showed the opposite direction from where she was going with a flick of her tail. He waited for her to leave then muttered, "Watch me." He stalked and brought down a rabbit, as his son quietly watched without a word. "You get it? Good." Sach said. "Why don't you catch that squirrel over there." He continued this watch and teach method for a while, but his son just wasn't getting it. He became more gentle and understanding, patient as he taught his son. With the new method at hand his son soon learned how to hunt, even bringing down a young deer with his father. "Hey, dad." He said shyly. "Yeah, son?" Sach answered looking back at the young male who was following him. "I, uh. I love you, dad." He looked up at his father with innocent, young eyes and after a moment Sach replied. "I love you too, son." He nuzzled his young pup and they padded back into the den side by side. He suddenly had felt real love again, love that he never thought he could feel after losing his mother. And he realized that his mother didn't want him to grieve as much as he had. She had wanted him to have a good life and raise a family hat he would love as much as she had loved him and his litter mates. And for the first time since his dear mother died, he smiled.
