Cassius was mutated by the explosion, just like the others. He was given the gifts of telepathy and telekinesis, allowing him to transfer his thoughts into others minds without speaking and to move small objects around with his mind.
He was found underground and unconscious. An eerie green glow emitted from the sand, attracting Caliper and Rue to him. The couple unburied the elder and allowed him to join them on their travels.

Wise, though humble. Cass doesn't take anything from anyone and will calmly and collectively express that they have upset him. Very rarely will the elder snap.
