Biography "That you may retain your self-respect, it is better to displease the people by doing what you know is right, than to temporarily please them by doing what you know is wrong." Sir Niklas was taken from his mother's side soon after he was born, snatched away by Sir Bricius who wanted someone to follow in his footsteps. The pup might have been anything else in life, but he was destined for knighthood because of his grandfather and quickly became a knight. He was thrust into a life led by Sir Bricius, causing the young pup to become very aware of the differences in his pack. He knew that when Bricius approached a group of wolves, they tended to scatter soon afterwards. However, when Niklas's gentle, loving mother approached, she was treated warmly and with affection. He decided from an early age that he enjoyed the other reaction better, and from then on strived to be the best wolf he could be. Though kind to his grandfather and continuing to train under his tutelage, Niklas began to develop a strong moral code. He actively sought out the ethical leaders of his pack, asking for advice and wisdom until he began to understand the world around him. He hopes to advance beyond his current position as a knight, but for now is content with where he is. It was a great surprise when King Piaras decided proclaimed that Niklas would be the Heir and ascend the throne in the fifth year of Piaras' reign. Bricius, who had much from the King had arranged an alliance with a great Kingdom in the eastern lands. The Lady Deirdre, though three years older than Niklas by three years was more talented, experienced in battle, and beautiful than any wolf in the pack. She was also a widow, and her pups were fine Lords and Ladies now. She had a remarkable impression on King Piaras and Sir Bricius who were not disappointed when she arrived. Niklas, on the other hand, was hesitant. He was worried that she was far more knowledgeable than himself, and that he would be overshadowed by her. However, Deirdre and Niklas became fast friends. While there may not have been love between them as with King Piaras and Queen Thora, there was a steadfast loyalty, confidence, and compatibility between the two. Her fierceness was balanced by his quiet thoughtful nature. They were balanced. There was a spark between them, and while they kept it inside themselves, it was sure to blaze as time went on and with the arrival of their own pups. Eventually, another sickness was brought to the Kingdom Of Living. Nine wolves became ill and because they loved their pack members, and to increase the chances that their Kingdom would not be destroyed, they left, most going separate ways. King Niklas was broken. His mate, Queen Deirdre, and his only son, Prince Waldemar, had disappeared. Every wolf in the pack was affected in some way by the loss. Priestess Yasmin had a vision that a she-wolf of great importance would come to the pack. Then one morning, a gorgeous female arrived in the pack, more talented and beautiful than any before her, including all the Kings and Queens. Her name was Merja. She had a dream where the ancient spirits had ordered her to come to this land. She would have pups from two lines great lines of wolves. First, with current the King of Living, and then with the next. Niklas, halfway through life, was fascinated by this female, willing to give up her past life in order to become the Queen they needed. She became Niklas's mate the day of her arrival. Niklas loved her, loved her strength and her sacrifice, though he refused to let Deirdre pass from his thoughts. Niklas did not expect Merja to love him in return. Merja conceived, and in the spring, she gave birth to two princesses, Irina, and Delaine. They healed Niklas's heart from the loss of his son. For a while, all was well. Niklas spent time with his daughters, giving them tender affection. Niklas felt like he was getting close to the strange female that had given him so much happiness. He admired the way she did particular things and how she spoke, her voice very light and accented. Then, Yasmin received a sign that it was time for a new King Of Living. The spirits spoke that it was time for the next King, who would be one of old nobility. Lord Andor was the youngest of this line, and moreover, Queen Merja was in love with him. Niklas was pained by the realization that he would no longer be with her. It was what was best for the pack, and Niklas had been provided with his daughters. He stepped down quietly, earning the respect of his packmates, still maintaining the high statue of Duke.
