Fern - exactly! I want so bad to barrel race. I ws gonna take lessons and then the lady had to get a job and say she had no time for me any more. SHe even would have lent me her horse to take to races. She was the stepdaughter of a friend of my moms. But now Im without lessons and she is still busy. My mom bugs her once in a while to ask if she has time because its not right to promise something and break it. I was 11a t the time. .3 years later, no lessons still!

The gelding is pretty lazy except when the breeze is going. The mare always wants to go

Stallions aren't usually for riding. That's why you don't see them often. It's considered a rarity to see a stallion being ridden for rodeo, unless we're talking broncs. But again, a lot of broncs are mares because they're fiery. When people keep studs studs instead of gelding them, it's likely because they want to primarily use them for breeding purposes. They can be ridden and are in some eventing style things, but almost never rodeos just on the off chance you have a stud that can't mind his manners around mares.

In my little bit of experience, the gelding I do lessons on is a bit spicy. But he is a pony and young. The mare the same age is pretty calm That's only two horses though, every one is different.

Cowboy will do everything in his power to not get anywhere near mud. Including but not limited to. 1. Going full stop. No amount of kicking, cropping, or rolling forward will get him to move 2. Almost falling and impaling himself and myself on a bush. 3. Skirting around it like he's trying to place #1 in a dancing competition.

Mares are good for fiery events like barrels and such because they're more feisty and have a lot of heart lol
Sweet Valley
Or geldings but mares are usually the most used horses. If you watch rodeo, the horses names are usually Mares names, not stallions.

Ive been around horses alot. But mares are usually a little better for barrel racing

Spirit I've been working on a ranch since I was 17 and I'm 28 now 😅 the mares are definitely feistier than the gelding, but the geldings ARE big idiots. We have one named cowboy who was SUPPOSED to be a rodeo horse. He definitely sucks to ride more than a mare, but personality wise he is nicer than our mares.
Fernweh.
Stallions are WONDERFUL if you put the work into them. A well trained stallion is one of my favorite horses to work with.

That's not true. I know stallions that are a lot nicer than males. If you think stallions are worse or more feisty than mares then you haven't been around horses. Or responsible horse owners.

Apo, That's just not true, been riding horses for a year and the worst horse was a gelding. The "meanest" mare never once went to bite or kick.
